Paul Banks of Interpol has a solo album coming out on August 4 under the moniker Julian Plenti. It's called Skyscraper and it's coming out on Matador Records. If you sign up for the mailing list on his website you get a free download of a track off the album: http://www.julianplenti.com/ . The song snippet on the website is pretty cool too.

Yeah - it rocks out a bit more than your average Interpol tune!

Yeah I really like it, the style is really unusual compared to his Interpol work. I'd love to hear more

More from Pitchfork: http://pitchfork.com/news/

Back when we first reported on Interpol front man Paul Banks's new alter ego/solo project Julian Plenti, details were scarce. Now, details are less scarce. We still don't know where Banks/Plenti got that baby-blue shirt he's wearing on the cover (which can be seen above), but the record, Julian Plenti Is...Skyscraper, is out August 4 on Matador. It features contributions from guests including Ratatat's Mike Stroud, Interpol's Sam Fogarino, and Charles Burst of the Occasion. The LP also has a weird technological inspiration, it seems. Read on for more info and tracklist:

According to a Matador press release, the Julian Plenti character originated in 1996, played some NYC clubs, and then "went on sabbatical" just as Interpol started to rise in 2001. And what brought this glasses-wearing fellow back to his muse? A dark-haired girl? A soul-crushing day job? A certain candy-coated licorice treat? Alas, no.

Plenti apparently "acquired the music production software Logic Pro" in 2006, allowing for him to make music without a band. Then he started making music without a band.

Banks/Plenti will play "select shows" in support of the new album.

Julian Plenti Is...Skyscraper:

01 Only If You Run
02 Fun That We Have
03 Skyscraper
04 Games for Days
05 Madrid Song
06 No Chance of Survival
07 Unwind
08 Girl on the Sporting News
09 On the Esplanade
10 Fly as You Might

'Fun That We Have' sounds pretty decent. An interesting mixture of rock and electronica, and certainly different from Interpol.

IEEEP

Fun that we have is such a fucking cocktease it seems to end right before some epic offspring like climax.

Totally in love with this album.

It's weird though, if Interpol would have released this as an album I would've been disappointed no doubt but knowing it's just Sam and Paul kind of gives me peace of mind and lets me enjoy these tracks to the fullest.
