damn. what a setlist. i drove from athens with no traffic the whole time. get less than two miles from the exit ramp and sit still for an hour. It was a mess. Signals were off and cops were directing traffic. By the time we were off the ramp it was 7:45 and we hadn't gone two miles in an hour and a half. The box office told us (by phone) that they started at 7:30 so we had to wait even longer (right next to the venue) just to turn around because we were only staying for muse anyway. Glad people enjoyed it though and hopefully it got taped. Probably going to camp outside the night before their next atlanta show. :-)

OMG! Muse! My throat is hoarse from screaming! Had a great time. :awesome: Sorry if my tweets were erratic. I noticed when I checked my outbox after the set, it looked like some didn't even go, even though it looked like it.

Anyway, it was incredible! :D Our seats were in the top tier, row 18, but we ended up moving to the front row of the section since it was so empty. So that was awesome. I sat there without problems until song six (US) when the seat owners came. Then I just hung out in the aisle for a song and a half and then they made me move so I just found an empty end of a row for the last song (TiRO).

I saw in total about 5 people wearing Muse shirts. By the time I mustered up the courage to say Whoooo Myooose! to one of them, they didn't hear me. Oh well. I really didn't see any enthusiasm for Muse, but I could hear people cheering and stuff. Since I was in the front of my section, I felt totally oblivious to what was going on behind me. I'm glad I didn't bother with a sign, because they really didn't turn around to the back at all anyway. Dom seemed smiley on the big screen and was kinda chatty. He said something like "You guys are awesome! Georgia likes to party!" or something like that, and the requisite, "how you guys doing." I don't remember if Matt said anything.

It's all kind of a blur, but it was amazing. It was fun doing the Starlight clap. It did seem like a bunch of the people on the floor were doing it too. And SMBH got a big cheer, so that was great. Matt did some of his amazing bunny hop antics, I think it was during Hysteria.

Overall, an awesome time! Of course it just leaves me wanting more. I wish I'd met some boardies there, but it would've been a total fluke. I did talk to Pam on the phone though.

Oh, and I'm soooo glad we were able to leave at 5 to get there! It normally would've taken 20-30 minutes, but it took an hour, with the last 30 minutes going about 1/2 mile. We missed the optimum parking lot, so ended up paying $20, but we just wanted to be done with it! So I would imagine the traffic only ended up getting increasingly worse.

Also, on the way to the venue, I managed to catch part of an interview with Matt on the radio. Apparently earlier today they were at some racing facility having fun (as evidenced on their latest Twitpic). And the station also played MK Ultra and USoE, so that was cool. I'll have to see if I can find a link to the interview.

Well, that's all I can think of right now. Will post pics later if any are decent. I imagine others will have better ones. My ears are still ringing! :D

Yeah they're the same people who think you're a fucking moron :D

OMG!

Yay, thanks for the recap! :D I'm glad you had a great time

To me, it felt like more people were tweeting about Muse at this show than at others and a lot of it was positive. :)
How did your hubby like the show?

Was that radio station 99x? I think that was the station doing the go-carting with Muse contest.

Yes, it was 99x! I just went on their website to see if there was an interview link, but I don't see anything. I'm bummed I missed the first part.

I'll have to go back and read some of the tweets. Glad they were good! My hubby said it was fun. He's so-so about Muse, but he can at least admit they are good live. And he did learn to play TiRO on his bass, so I was glad they played that.

We stayed for half of U2. Not a fan really, but you can't deny they're good performers. And I've always had a soft spot for The Edge, actually. I saw them twice more than 20 years ago when I was a massive fangirl, so it was interesting to see them so many years later from a different perspective. They're old! LOL! The played a few hits from the '80s, so that was cool. All the fans around us seemed really tame. No problems or attitude or anything. Alot of people were sitting down! There was this hilarious couple in front of us dancing. They were probably my age, but I felt like I was watching my Dad try to dance of something. He made me think of Ned Flanders from the Simpsons for some reason. A real doofus! So I was watching the crowd more than I was U2.

Ah well, I guess this is where the PMS syndrome comes in. (Post Muse Syndrome)

99x is still around? Everytime I got to ATL I can never find it!
btw U2 are older but the bass player is a hot older guy. ;)

It was awkward being the only one jumping in a sea of U2 fans. I mean I was right up front (meaning front of the outer little circle-walkway thing), and am over 6 feet tall. Luckily, my love for Muse allowed me to overcome my usual shyness.

The show was incredible. even though KoC wasn't played. I did not expect US at all, and was pleasantly surprised! Undisclosed Desires is soooo powerful live. And I thought I wouldn't be super crazy about Tiro, but again, this was my first time seeing them live.

I am more than ready for a proper US tour :D :D

I have my eye on that purple tote and wonder if it will still be part of their merch next spring. lol at the dude reminding you of Ned Flanders

Maybe you won't get PMS or it won't be too bad. The last time I saw them, I was on a Muse high for awhile and I by-passed that depressed feeling, thankfully.

Uprising, was, wow, just wow, there isnt a word to describe how awesome it was, and I have to say Bono put on quite a show as well. Also at one point in the show when Matt thanked U2 for having them, me and my friends in the front row all yelled "were here for you Matt!" Chris then looked right at us and smiled. :D my life is pretty much complete. We got to the Dome at 4pm, about an hour and a half before the gates open, and the traffic was not bad at all, and we found excellent ($8!) parking. We went to the bathroom, and joined the crowd hanging out by the entrance. Renee (musemom) had told me that there were at least 300 people lined up. I didn't see them. Then we found out that the GA line was "down there." So down we went into a sea of people. I figured there were around 1000 people in front of us (one of the guys who worked there guessed 800.) Got in line, then noticed people around us with arm bands. So, we had to go back and get in the arm band line, and then got back in the GA line. That was a bit frustrating. It would have been nice to have signs saying, "You need the arm band to get in!" Got in pretty quickly after the gates opened. Most of the inner circle spots were taken when we got in. We ended up about 5 people deep from the outer circle. Really good, except all the heads! So we waited. About half an hour or more later some Muse fans muscled their way in front of everybody, and ended up right in front of us. I was pretty pissed, now I'm 6 people deep. And their PDA was annoying. Anyway, it didn't end up mattering when the band came on. There were numerous Muse fans in my area, so we were all really enjoying the show. So that was cool.

Loved the program. I would have loved Stockholm, but I knew it wouldn't be on the setlist. People around me participated in the Starlight clap, and seemed to be really into Muse (even the U2 fans.) I actually heard other fans singing during TIRO! Matt's voice is incredible! Just an excellent performance. Before and after the show saw lots of Muse shirts. When we were in the food line, I had my sign in my hand. A guy said, "Where'd you get that Muse thing?" I said, "I made it!"

Just so you know, both bands are loud! lol! We brought earplugs. I didn't use them for Muse, because I didn't want to miss anything. I did for U2, tho. And I could hear well. U2 did great. I really enjoyed hearing "Sunday Bloody Sunday" live and "Magnificent." and I have to say that Bono didn't start in on the charitable talk until after a full hour of playing. And the part we heard wasn't all that long and annoying. they worked it into the set. But by that time my 37 year old body was saying (in a whiny voice), "I'm tired, my back hurts." We left at 10:30.

I took some photos, but they're mostly crap. I'll try to post them later. I can't wait for Muse next spring. I think they definitely have some more fans in Atlanta now.

Oh yeah, 99x is now 97.9?! I wish I had known this before the concert!

Miss you Seattle

Despite the crap traffic on Northside Drive, made it into the venue in good time, got $10.00 parking right across from the dome.

Here is the set list as I recorded:

1.Intro- Prokofiev Dance of the Knights
2. Uprising
3. Map of the Problematique
4. Supermassive Black Hole
5.Interlude
6. Hysteria
7. Undisclosed Desires
8. Unnatural Selection
9. Starlight
10.Time is Running Out.

Now, would have made my night to see them perform Megalomania or Stockholm Syndrome, but maybe next time when they headline.

I stayed for about 5 songs of U2's performance, and they were pretty good, but I only tolerate sitting in post event nightmare traffic for MUSE.

The people in my area were obviously not MUSE fans as they didn't give them the proper attention they merited, so I wanted to throttle them all. Hopefully my enthusiasm made up for the pathetic responses out of section 130.

I hope they return soon and headline as they should. The Fox or the Tabernacle would be fabulous.

I did some people watching during U2, as well. I saw Brooke Shields walk by and I swear Robert Duvall was there! But the most fun was this girl who was dancing, and totally into U2. She reminded me of that Seinfeld episode when Elaine tries to dance, and is just horrible. :D Then there was a guy that looked like a chicken dancing. I can't criticize, because I'm not a great dancer, either. It was just fun to watch. And by the by...The Edge's falsetto solo was reeeally nice. I never knew he had that nice, clear voice. Oh yeah, Bono thanked Muse (not the Muse this time), and said, "there's something special there." I thought that was pretty nice. I was too busy rockin' to people watch during Muse. (the annoying chick in front of us, according to my husband, did what he calls "the white girl dance." I think it involves pointing your fingers in the air and shaking your butt.)

I'm still sad I missed seeing Muse at the Tabernacle in 2006, I know that was awesome. It's quite intimate and I think the sound is great there. :) The odds of hearing Stockholm are good, Megalomania, not so much.

I'm glad you had a good time and had other fans around you! How annoying about those fans squeezing in front of you though and all the PDA lol.
You should take a picture of your sign so we can see it :)

The Muse part:

Tuesday’s show opened with a 45-minute set by Muse, playing ferocious, sometimes operatic, progressive rock with a dark edge. Tween daughters who came with their older rocker dads brightened up when the band played “SuperMassive Black Hole,” a tune used in the vampire movie “Twilight.”

While the pale members of Muse could have fit right in with Robert Pattinson and friends, the hearty souls in U2 were all about sunshine and light, and a starship to take them there.

Oh Please ! How can you say that ? You did the same : you didn't give U2 the proper attention they merited too ! So please, stop that supid fans' war !

Why can you love Muse but not U2 and U2's fans must love Muse ?

No, just no. :noey:

Thanks for the Flickr link. Good pics on there!

  Love that Seinfeld episode! Yeah, great people-watching for sure. Sorry about the annoying people around you. At least there was some enthusiasm for Muse in your area. My area was dead for the most part, but there were some dudes behind me that were cheering. I did hear lots of cheering throughout the stadium, so yay! It was expected during Uprising, SMBH and Starlight, but I also remember alot of cheering when they started UD, too, which was surprising. Whaaah! I wish it wasn't over!

I wore my new shirt to the gym this morning. :awesome: No one said anything, but I heard some girls next to me talking about how one of them went to the U2 concert so I piped in and said "Oh, I was there for Muse! Great show!" and pointed to my shirt. They were like "cool!" but given the crowd that was there, she probably was still stuck in traffic during Muse! Then some girl I'd never seen before was grinning at me like a loon. Maybe she just thought I looked goofy or something, but I like to think it was because she liked my shirt.

Thanks for all your reports and the videos. Glad everyone had a great time. It's not the same being a guest performer is it though? I don't know, I was just looking at the lighting and, bless them, they had to fit in round U2's clobber and look out at a half empty stadium! I suppose it had to be done but it doesn't feel right somehow! I am sure people are seeing it as a taster anyway, but it is obviously a lot different when they have their own show.:)

No, just no.

 You have to laugh! How were they pale?! I'm sure they would very happily have taken ownership of U2's spaceship!

Another thing I was wondering is have they actually watched U2 perform? Since they said they wanted to learn from them, not that they need to imo! I suppose people wouldn't notice.

I finally checked one of this person's vids of U2, sorry to say Bono's voice isn't what it used to be, does he smoke? it's not bad, but sounds tight or something.

So far Matt's just keeps getting better, hope he continues to take good care of it.

I agree, he sounded hoarse. I think it's just age and overuse. Don't know if he smokes. I was glad they played The Unforgettable Fire (from 1985), but he couldn't do the falsetto parts at all!

Here's a funny quote I saw on the U2gigs website. (I was perusing to see if we missed any '80s classics since we left about half-way through. LOL, I feel like I have to defend myself for going on the U2 website!)

The stage was incredible, having never heard Muse, I was impressed. Bono's head was lowered into the Dome using several cranes and helicopters. Regardless, the show was very good.

And another favorable quote:

PS. For those who missed Muse - wowsa. The first half of that set was tremendous. (Yeah, but what about the 2nd half, right? :erm:)

So

They've said recently in interviews that they're planning an "extensive" tour of the States (and part of Canada) next March-May. No specifics have been announced. I am a little worried that they might possibly skip Atlanta since they were just here, but I think it's pretty likely they'll come back. After all, the cities on this leg weren't their choosing, just U2's, so I would think that on their own tour they would sort of start from scratch. I think they got a pretty good reception last night from what it sounds like, and at least Matt didn't get injured this time, so hopefully they like Atlanta enough to come back! If not, I'll be going on a road trip, I guess!

Hi everyone! I just got home to SC.
WHAT AN AMAZING SHOW!!!!
Here's my brief synopsis. Got in line around 5pm. About 800 in line before me? It took what seemed like forever to get into the Dome. There were already a lot of people lined up outside of the inner circle, but my husband and I decided to make a go for the inner circle. We were let into the inner circle EASILY. Found a spot DEAD CENTER about 8 rows back! Hung out with a lot of nice U2 fans. Only 2 problematic U2 fans. I argued with a know-it-all U2 fan who assured me that Muse used "a lot of backing tracks" and also assured me that they were all from Scotland (WTF?). I finally gave up on him as a lost cause. He really ought to check out this thing called "the internet" that might perhaps provide him with useful information about Muse.
All the U2 fans were really nice about my excitement about Muse, and were cool about me waving my Muse flag occassionally. One guy even offered to let me up on his shoulders, but I didn't want to piss off the folks behind us. One U2 fan was really snarky and during Uprising KICKED my husband to tell me to take my sign down!!!!! (I admit I was a little over-excited in the beginning and kept it up a little too long, but you don't KICK people!) Thats ok, though because Chris looked at my sign TWICE!!!! :D I don't know if Matt and Dom saw it, but I was close enough that it would have been hard for them not to. I was thrilled that Chris saw it because I made it so that they would feel appreciated amid a sea of U2 fans.
Muse was AMAZING! It was my first time seeing them live and they were just phenomenal! They converted many of the U2 fans around me. One of them texted his wife at home and told her to download Muse's entire catalogue! And another guy asked me which Muse albums he should buy (my answer? ALL OF THEM). I was next to a Muse fan and we were able to jump a little bit, but it's pretty hard to jump when everyone around you is standing still. Most people clapped along to Starlight.
My only wish was that they had started on time so we could have heard a few more songs. The set seemed so short! AWESOME, though!
My husband and I stuck around for the entire U2 set ( I highly recomend it to those going to upcoming Muse/U2 shows). They really know how to interact with the crowd. I'm not a big U2 fan, but I admit to getting swept up in all the excitement.
It was easily one of the best nights of my life!!!
Can't wait for Muse to headline so that they can be properly appreciated and so I can be around some pwoper Muse fans!
In summary, it was a brilliant concert! EPIC.

Ditto what they said! :D I was in the 300s too, but we were pretty much dead center behind the stage. Were there many Muse fans in your area? Mine was pretty beat, but there were a couple dudes who seemed into it. But they weren't making fools of themselves like I was, lol!

Haha.well in my initial area i didnt see any. I actually moved about 6 sections over during muse since there were so many seats open. My original seats were behind one of the legs of the claw and it blocked half the stage and i wasn't having that at my first muse show! So when i went the six or seven sections over ,there was a whole u2 family infront of me and they didnt strike me as muse fans. they got up a few times to get food and stuff. there was two people behind me that at least stood up for muse and took some pictures. I didnt see them singing along much but then I also wasn't looking at them very often lol. So really for the most part i was pretty alone. But i sang along to everything, every word and enjoyed the expierence despite the lack of fellow muse fans. My mom did however come over from our initial section and keep me company since i was really pretty much on my own over there. She sang along to what she knew and clapped and cheered in between songs. She was a good sport! Now though,I really need a Muse headlining show with a ton of crazy muse fans around me. Before the gig though walking around cnn center and centennial and stuff i saw an ok number of muse fans. I saw one couple that was decked out in muse attire, but i didn't say anything to them cause they were eating and i didnt want to be rude, but it was still cool to see other people who liked muse. We should have all formed a big muse section somewhere or something during the show with signs and flags and what not!

Oh and thanks for all the welcomes!

Sounds like me! I said hi to some Muse fans, but felt a little gooby. Most everybody seemed really nice and welcomed some comraderie from a fellow Muser.

Welcome, Joshmusicman. Glad your overall experience was good (and I liked your pics.) Your mom sounds pretty cool!

I'm still on a concert high.

hey, for those who stayed for all of U2...how long did they play? We left at 10:30 during Walk On (I joked that we walked on during Walk On.) Did I miss anything really good?

I think we left as the same time as you! Here's a setlist from U2gigs. It would've been kinda cool to hear With or Without You and Where the Streets Have No Name, but oh well. http://www.u2gigs.com/show1594.html.

Glad we left when we did, though, because it took us about 40 minutes to get to our car! We were a bit lost. I was so excited before the show that I wasn't really paying attention and then it was all dark and looked different when we came out. :$

Thanks. I actually found the whole setlist on U2.com. We just missed two more songs plus the encores. So, not too bad. I got to hear the ones I wanted to hear the most. So...yah!

Sorry to hear about your long walk! Was the concert over by the time you got to your car? We were in the orange lot, which was really close. My husband wasn't feeling well, so it was a good thing that we were able to get to the car, and get home. Poor guy!

Well I had an awesome time at the Georgia Dome, just wish there was more energy for Muse and not so many Bono fanatics. Kinda pissed me off that he didnt talk about them much. When they had the tech difficulty they could of atleast mentioned Muses new album or something. Ahhhh well still enjoyed it and really hope they come back and headline! Also is it just me or does Resistance remind anyone else of 1984 by George Orwell

Hankh3nry,
It was a U2 concert. Of course there were Bono fans! There was actually a lot of Muse support considering they were the opening act. I saw lots of people wearing Muse shirts before the show and lots of people around me knew most of Muses songs and were singing and dancing along. There were even some people that started requesting PiB when he brought out the silver manson. Plus Bono did mention them and it would have been weird for him to go off too long about them.

Don't take that like I'm mad at you or yelling at you. Just wanted to get my say in.

As for 1984 it was partially based on that book. Matt said so several times. It's especially obvious in the song Resistance. For anyone who hasn't read the book yet I highly recomend it. It's short enough to finish over a weekend, it's a great book, and it makes the album better.

Yeah, Matt said some of the songs were influenced by the love story in 1984 between Winston and Julia.

Awesome and ya I was aware of that. Just saying that it would have been even better if there were more fans! Where were you on the floor? Still had fun!

Anyone see those 2 guys with the shirts that said "We are here for Muse" and "U WHO?"...I thought that was hilarious. Major props to those guys.

I was there...front center...behind those 2 guys (I got to the DOME at 6am, and couldn't believe there was a line already...I was like number 82). It was an amazing show...and my first for Muse and U2. It can't get any better than that...well...unless you replaced U2 with Radiohead :)

I agree with what one of the posters said about the energy during the Muse performance...most of the people there were there to see U2 and most didn't know about Muse. It didn't matter to me because I was still jumping and screaming...basically acting a fool. Too bad it was for only 45 minutes :(

I hope they play PiB, Citizens Erased, KoC, and Stockholm Syndrome...when they come back to Atlanta next year ;)

I was over on Adams (or Chris) side in about the second row inner circle! And more fans are always a plus! But we'll get plenty of that next year when they come on their own!!!!

I paid more for my T-shirt than my ticket >< The nosebleeds were fun but there were 0 muse fans around where we were. :indiff: It was fun seeing the 20 or so fans in the pit that were freaking out, but the majority of them were just standing still looking at Muse. The whole show was incredible, and I loved every song played. I cannot wait for their headlining tour next year where I will definitely be up in the front.

(on another note U2 was great, but a few of Edge's solos killed my ears worse than the Metallica concert on sunday)

The shirt prices were way too high for me. I rarely wear tees anyway though so it's alright. I'll get one when they headline over here. Me and my friends were four of the 20! The people behind me made up 3 more so you probably noticed us. To my left there were a few guys attempting to mosh which was pretty funny. I really need to post my pics!

Oh nice! How early did you get there? I was relatively close to the outer circle straight ahead of Matt.

Wow! Louder than Metallica! That's a surprise. (How was that concert, btw? I love Metallica...at least their old stuff.)

Hank, we were pretty near each other. I was about 5-6 people deep from the outer circle between Matt and Chris. There was a little group of Muse fans behind you.

Fantastic!:D They sounded great, got a good reception and it was nice to see more of Dom's drum skills with that stage setup. You could get more of a feel of it I think than in the previous videos. The big screen is great!:D

I got there around two and had a couple people meet up with me later on- I'm so glad the people around me didn't have a problem with that! Somehow we ended up next to people who had been there since 11am so I guess it had lots to do with how lucky you were going in since there were so many places to see the show and lots of people wanted outer circle and red zone. Outer circle would have been incredible for a U2 fan (which I am) but going in my thoughts were all on getting as close to Muse as possible.

Hey, did you guys at the Atlanta show notice Matt did the alternate lyrics during Starlight: "Our trials and tribulations, black holes and revelations?" I just remembered that. I wonder if he's done that at the other recent shows.

*sigh* I wish I could go back in time to Tuesday night. :(

I did notice that! I was so happy to hear that version!! Idk why it made me so happy but it did!

And I found some footage on YouTube of Dom saying that they would be back soon at the end of the set! Can never tell how serious he was though

someone on this board who was at the VMAs heard them say the same thing, spring is a pretty safe bet, and to increase the odds of them actually getting to the Twin Cities I bought another copy of the Resistance today,it's also for my brother in law's birthday present:D
