Thats the official name for the Knebworth festival taking place on Saturday 1st - Sunday 2nd August 09
As this is hyped as feck, and shall be awesome, it deserves its own thread.

Rumoured Lineup:

Linkin Park
Metallica
Alice in Chains
Lamb of God
Machine Head
Mastodon
Red Hot Chilli Peppers
Muse

Apparently more details will be announced on Monday. Though the no camping bit kinda sucks.

Milky Joe

Yup, I am so going. I can't see Muse being there, but if they are

I'll be there for 'Tallica, Lamb of God, Mastodon, AIC and Machine Head.

I think NIN are rumoured also. Muse don't really seem to fit in though.

Sophie.

Looks like I'll be going to this, possibly as well as Download. It's within easier driving distance than Download, even if it won't feel like a 'real' festival cause of the lack of camping.

Weekend £132.50
Weekend with Camping £157.50
Family Camping per person £157.50*
Lockers £10.00*
Parking £10.00* (£20.00 on the day)
Early Entry £10*
Camper Vans £40*

I dunno now, I was going to drive up and back each day, but if it's going to cost £40 to park on top of a steep ticket price...

If it's £20 for a weekend parking pass rather than £20 per day then that's not too bad.

Gemsy

It's too damn SOON to be selling tickets, is the trouble. i RESENT planning in February what I need to be doing in August! Reading goes on sale in March, doesn't it? I wish they could just sell the fuckers in like, July, like they used to.

Velouria
08-02-2009, 11:40 PM
Indeed, two days before tickets go on sale, they'll need to announce a lot of acts inbetween I think. People on Efests are already wondering about VFM compared to 3 days of festival at Download.

Aye, I think Reading usually goes on sale in March/April.

Milky Joe
09-02-2009, 12:07 PM
£160 is a hell of a lot for 2 days and one stage. I wonder what acts they have in store to warrant the hefty price.

Edit: just found out there will be 2 stages. This could be promising.

It is truly an honour to confirm the return of Industrial rockers Nine Inch Nails to the UK at Sonisphere festival 2009. The recipients of an abundance of critical acclaim and a die-hard fanbase, NIN’s career has seen them skyrocket from underground cult heroes to international superstardom. Enigmatic mainman Trent Reznor is no stranger to the festival circuit, and his exclusive appearance at Knebworth this summer - which could be the last for some time - will have fans appetites wet with anticipation.

It has been widely reported that their current tour may be Nine Inch Nail's last before an extended break. When originally announcing the tour, Trent stopped short of saying the band was going on something more than a hiatus. But Reznor confirmed these will be the last NIN shows for some time, and that they will be “much more raw, spontaneous and less scripted” compared to last year’s “Lights in the Sky” tour. “It’s time to make NIN disappear for a while,” he said. Where better to catch them before they do than the historic home of rock that is Knebworth! As if more incentive is needed, this is the only Sonisphere festival in Europe that NIN are playing and therefore the only chance to see them alongside METALLICA.

Thank-you Trent for ruining my summer.

That would almost win too much.

Metalheads are allowed to love Feeder, and take into account the 'metal' bands there, they're all 100% Kerrang friendly, hence Feeder will fit in perfectly.

So, booking fees are scrapped, and those who have already bought a ticket will get the booking fee refunded.

The thing about the free coach travel and Guitar Hero Metallica game discount only applying to new customers is rightfully causing grievance though, but at least Sonisphere are looking into the possibility of existing customers getting the GH:M discount:

I suspect that sales are not too healthy. The relunctance / inability to announce the Linken Park sub-headliner might be causing people to drag their feet on buying a ticket, and I also think that NIN's mini tour might have meant that many massive NIN fans now don't need a Soni ticket in order to see them before they shuffle off.

They have really pissed off a lot of existing customers with these free coach travel and heavily subsidised Guitar Hero Metallica offers for new tickets sales. I do hope they decide to extend these offers to the customers who have supported their endeavour from the start, or they risk losing customer loyalty. I'm personally really annoyed at the GH:M thing, as I do actually want to buy that game.

Yeah, definitely an annoying cop-out to sell more tickets, but I know the team are doing their best to seize the matter and make it available to previous buyers, but how hard they'll try is a different matter entirely.

Velouria

This was posted by a Sonisphere spokesperson on the official board earlier:

We are aware that the Guitar Hero: Metallica offer has caused some controversy amongst those of you who have already bought your ticket. Unfortunately the nature of such an offer is that is is only available for a limited time for a limited number of customers. Think of it like a sale in shop, if you go before the sale or after you wont get the discount. The Guitar Hero : Metallica game wasn't available at an earlier date (The release is the 29th May) and when we came up with the idea we wanted to go ahead with it, even if it was limited. We are very sorry that we couldn’t open it up to everyone but it just wasn’t possible with this offer. However, we will always include everyone wherever we can and as such we have been able to negotiate refunding the booking fees for all Sonisphere Ticket holders!

Well, If I decide to go next year then I doubt I'll be booking a ticket early. The moral here is to hang about until they seem a bit desperate to sell tickets and then sweep in and get free stuff.

Also, kind of confusing, I thought NIN and H&H were second stage headliners. How's this gonna work?

Clunge
27-05-2009, 01:40 PM
Nooo, NIN and H&H are sub-headliners, like Kasabian are at Glastonbury to Bruce Springsteen or Bloc Party are to Radiohead at Reading.

Metallica are miles bigger than NIN, hence headlining. Linkin Park are miles bigger than Heaven & Hell, hence headlining.

There will be three stages, but I believe only one of the main stages + the Bohemia stage will have bands playing at the same time. Pffft, makes no odds to me, aside from Feeder, all the bands I want to see will be on the main stage .

That second stage is basically the main stage. the running time on Sunday will go:

Metallica
A7X
NIN
AIC
Machine Head
Feeder
LOG
Thin Lizzy
Mastodon
Special Guests
Killing Joke
The Sword

Which is why I expected NIN to be headlining the second stage. But they do this at some other festivals, and usually the sub headliner is not 2nd to last (like they should be) but do play longer than the second stage headliner.

I seriously hope my favourite bands from Bohemia are on Saturday, because from those, I don't particularly want to miss any of them, except maybe The Sword and Thin Lizzy.

Saturday does look a tad shite, I only want to see LP, BFMV, C&C and Skindred. Although I'll probably be watching Fear Factory and Anthrax

According to someone on efests

Saturday Bohemia includes:

Fighting With Wire
The Chapman Family
Twin Atlantic
Rolo Tomassi

Sunday includes:

Attack! Attack!
Dead By April
Hundred Reasons
Zebrahead

That's pretty cool with me, as I want to see Fighting With Wire, Twin Atlantic and Rolo Tomassi. They are less likely to clash on Saturday. Hoping for no clash/unsevere clash with Zebrahead on Sunday.

Decided I'm gonna hang on for a while, see if they release day tickets. It looks likely because weekend tickets aren't exactly selling like hotcakes, so fingers crossed. I'll keep an eye on it :D

Oh man. Oh MAN. WHY tomorrow? :(

And £67?!

Not that I mind spending all this money on Sonisphere + two gigs worth of Muse ticket, but all at the same time? That's just cruel

Demand for Sunday will be pretty high, no doubt.

That's a good point, god knows how soni day ticket people will get through with the Muse fans being bottled necked and killing the site

How long do you think soni tickets will hang about for?

Sophie.

Decided I'm gonna have to give it a miss. I don't really have the funds, and not much of a way to get there and back. Sucks :(

Hard to tell, but there seems to be quite a lot of people who have been hanging on for a Sunday day ticket.

Gargh might have to harass the other half for uber favor, I've already got him on Muse tickets he'll not like the idea of having to get my Soni ticket for me also haha.

My mate who's already got his weekend ticket has a code for extra special thingys like parties and stuff, so if all else fails I can go for a weekend one there I guess, if I can find the funds in time.

No it isn't, not if you're not camping.

I'll only be going for the day - I don't have the dosh for the w/e and camping on one's own is going to suck.

Plus, there are no bands on day one I want to see, at all.

Hence, it will be good enough on your own. You'll forget about your solitary problems when NIN come onstage :D

I am awfully excited about Feeder, because Feeder + summer = win, and I get to do my Buck Rogers dance.

And I've never seen Machine Head before, so I'm stoked for that.

Oh yes! Machine head will be good, and I am quite looking forward to some Alice in chains action, I hope the new singer does them justice

Nah, they'll be replaced by a majorly obvious replacement.

Edit: and LOG will probably get a good 50 mins. I don't think I'll survive much longer than that

The following bands have announced UK dates around Sonisphere:

Lacuna Coil
Buck Cherry
Dragonforce
Limp Bizkit
Hadouken
The King Blues

I can't see Limp Bizkit playing but who knows.

Lacuna Coil are playing a gig with Dirty Little Rabbits and Dead By April, both of whom are on the bill already, so I'd be very surprised if they aren't announced. This makes me happy.

Aye, the free slots seem to be a bit low down in the bill for Limp Bizkit, but it would be good.

I guess we might know who is playing after Download.
