One of my favorite bands. :)

I never get fed up with *Animals*, it's my favorite album of theirs, closely followed by *The Division Bell*.

Just wonderful stuff! :) :) :)

Pink Floyd are the most influential band of all time. Whether you like them or not I feel its hard to challenge that. Correct me if im wrong, but i believe that The Dark Side of The Moon is the biggest selling album of all time, or the one that has had the most editions or prints, or something. Anyway, its a great album and all rock fans should have it. The Wall was also good, 26 tracks is a bit much, but they're consistently good and i am a big fan of concept albums, its a shame you don't get them nowadays.
The lyrics are pure genius, especially on songs like Money and Time and The Trial, they are brilliant.
Wow, complete out and out praise there, and i dont like them as much as muse...

Aaaaah... McFly... Sing their praises. I'd like to see Muse sing a McFly tribute song; Hey! Look at those guys *Complex, amazing riff*... McFly! *Dom bass solo*... I've listened to Pink Floyd's: Dark side of the moon and was very impressed with a few of the songs but I find them no competition with The Beatles. Elvis was the most influentail artist of all time because The Beatles were inspired by Elvis...

and about the music, well what can I say, they are simply geniuses, love them

they also did the dark side of the moon, which is one of the biggest selling albums of all time, if not the biggest selling album (I cant remember) that was released in a 30th anniversary edition last year, which is a great buy, its a hybrid CD/SACD and is mixed in 5.1 surround sound on the SACD version, which makes for some great sounds on the record

...I never get fed up with *Animals*, it's my favorite album of theirs...
A band called "Colonel Les Claypool's Fearless Flying Frog Brigade" has a CD out where they played the whole Pink Floyd 'Animals' CD live at a concert and recorded it... (naturally :p ).

Its a good CD but unfortunately I haven't heard all of the real 'Animals' CD so I can't compare too much. My friends brother has both and he likes the Frog Brigade heaps, so, you can perhaps invest some time into it... ;)

On Pink Floyd's 'The Wall' album, there is a secret message on "Empty Spaces". It's pretty interesting so if any of you have the song, you could reverse it and hear it too...

If you want to know how to reverse a song, what I do is convert the song file to a wav. file. I then open up 'Sound Recorder' which comes with basically all computers since 92 or something. There is an option which allows you to reverse the track (it must be a wav.) This is only one way of reversing a track and many of you could do it another way, but do with it what you will...

Amazing...I am just listening to Marillion and just browsing this site for a long time. "The Division Bell" is one of my favourite album, I can listen it all over again, and felt like this already ten years... Marillion does the same but I am just getting those albums. I got eleven years old cassette by Marillion which my older brother has taped for me (some songs of different albums). Some great bands and songs stays in heart forever.

And I was there.
I had to go twice because one of the stands collapsed and there was broken legs and arms all over the place. This happened in the opening chord of the opening song (Shine on..) and the band hadn't even got on stage. When the gig did actually happen a couple of weeks later it was unbelievable. It's still the best gig I've ever seen, and that includes Muse at Earls Court. They played for over three hours. I doubt they will ever tour again so I'm glad I've seen them.

What are you doing that is music related? I am actually interested because I play guitar and Harmonica in my spare time and I also write songs as well. I have been trying to form a band in a while but life is too important for the people I want to be in the band.

If you really must know why i work at the youthy i will tell you. I work at the youth-center because things have happened in my past that i would not wish on anyone. Things too horrible to describe on these boards. All you need to know is it culminated in the loss of my Mother thanks to Drugs and Alcohol poisening. Working at the youth-center is a way i can perhaps make things better for other people who are going through a similer lifestyle. Least that is what i like to think anyway. I'm looking for a decent version of a song that I need to record on guitar at Sixth-Form for the music teacher. But being as most of the versions of it are incorrect, I'm searching until I get a decent enought one. I need to perform & record three songs by the end of the year for this Scholarship in music. Since Roger Waters left after the Final Cut there has been such huge bitterness between the band and him that it truly is a miracle that they played together today. Pink Floyd playing was a surprise but Roger playing with them... you could just never see it happening.

Yeah, Waters thought it was his band as he was in it from the very begining whereas Gilmor joined later (still before they were famous) and Waters wanted more control.
This lead to Waters touring seperatly than the rest of the band who still had the floyd name. And there was a load of political stuff as well.

Masons book is a good read btw.

Thanks, Burger with the Lot and mostlyArmless. :)

I heard one of them toured by himself and got booed cause of the kind of music he played...I wonder if there's any chance of getting back together, since the CD sales went up to something like 1400%.

I doubt it - it would kinda spoil the mystery of pink floyd now.

I have a few of his solo cds - and theyre not bad - really notwhat i would normally listen to at all though.

Were any of you watching it on mtv and saw how these iditiots cut Comfortably Numb half way through so that they could talk rubbish and cut into commercial...unbelievable! Their stupid move even made headlines in our local paper and yesterday the radio stations kept talking about it. I saw them live "some" time ago but it was definintely endearing to see them on stage again! Just love them!

They didn't even show comforably numb on the Canadian television station that was covering live 8. In fact, they barely showed anything except for the Canadian Live 8 *grr*

I quite enjoy a bit of Floyd now and again, but it's absolutely staggering how many people have jumped on the "I'm a Floyd fan" bandwagon.

If you'd asked people about them six months ago, there would be quite a few who'd denounce them as pompous, over-produced, soul-less rubbish, but all of these people seem to have gone into hiding!

I was the only person (almost) in school talking about them a few monthsago. And everyone had either not heard of them or called them boring!

Whats up with that?

Yeah, it's crazy, they've suddenly become fashionable, after being a dad-rock band for years

Greenday would crumble if floyd even glanced at them. Just like most bands really.

The only bands that could give a spirited fight are.

Led Zepplin
Iron Maidon

And maybe Radiohead.

And even then they only have a slim chance.

Should try again, since I liked the performance on Live8.

What do you mean, what's gotten into me? I could listen to Floyd for days nonstop...The reason I couldn't get into it, was because their songs were very slow. Maybe the songs I've heard, but I have an impression of Pink Floyd=mellow. No?

Not mellow.

Mid tempo. Btw they have some amazing guitar duels. :)

If you want mellow then Pink floyd are not.

I keep watching Echoes part 1 live at Pompeii. Musically, it's easily the greatest live performance ever.I just saw 'Live at Pompeii' DVD (director's cut), I wonder if you are talking about the same one. And it was awesome. Very original music-wise (I'm a new fan), and interesting character-wise. I was particularly interested in David Gilmour, whom I thought had an tremendous existance on stage at Live 8. I watched the video of it after watching Live at Pompeii. He looks a million years older, but still has great voice.

Now, I got 'The Making of The Dark Side of the Moon' DVD for my b-day. I'm looking forward to watch it. :D

And Gilmour is coming to my town in April! I must see!
