Anybody else besides me hope that with this remaster/re-issue of The Wall coming out that they'll finally correct the mistake of leaving "What Shall We Do Now?" off the album?

The live version will have it. Yet to be announced whether it'll be on any of the TBA discs though. And it wasn't really a mistake that they left it off, it was because of time constraints on vinyl.

That's the live version that's been released before. I was hoping they'd finally release the studio version that was used in the film sequence.
The vinyl copy I have shows the lyrics for the song on the liner notes. I always thought it was left off unintentionally.

It's weird, to me at least, how Empty Spaces just abruptly ends and Young Lust begins.

I'm looking at getting a really last minute ticket to one of the Manchester shows, probably Friday, if I can manage to grab hold of one.
So wish I was at the O2 though. That would have been beyond words.
Isn't there something about Roger (finally) doing a DVD from when he toured Dark Side of the Moon back in 2006 onwards?
I'm so envious of those who got to see David and Nick in London, but.. the show is pretty awesome even without them. Recently saw The Wall in Copenhagen and it was just mindblowing. I have to experience it one more time so I'm going to Berlin in June. Very excited! :)

Not really, it's a simple concept of mental instability and the mind's attempt to protect itself in the face of all the shit that was happening to it. The wall is a defence mechanism that is reminiscent of pathological denial. And it is partly autobiographical in the case of Waters who wrote a lot of the story based on his own life.
GorkerMorker

That's your excellent take on it. There's a reason Waters was able put so much new media into his show.

DSoTM is just way more accessible and has easily recognisable songs and really eases up on the psychedelia, that's why it's so popular.

That's what I always thought, but I will admit DSoTM is a lot more innovative...I just think Animals has more quality tracks. "Pigs (3 Different Ones)" was the track that got me into Floyd in the first place (THAT BASS <3), so I guess that's why it's been my favorite album.

I'm still left with the nagging feeling that Pink Floyd, especially (but not necessarily) with today's technology would be able to make something that surpasses anything they've done before. Every single thing they produced felt like something was missing to me.
They've gone deep but they've never dived all the way into the rabbit hole.
As for the concept, you're not supposed to ever 'get' it fully. You'll keep on discovering different 'walls' in your life.
Totally agree on this! That's what's so great about The Wall - you can interpret it in so many ways. There's the story of Roger's childhood/adolescence, the infamous story of how he spat on a fan during a concert due to him feeling alienated etc., the whole thing about the rock star Pink, whatever walls there might be in society, your own walls and so on and on...
When I saw the show in Copenhagen I was really happy to see that Roger has added new elements to the storyline - it has evolved and gives you something new to think about. Love it! :)

Dark Side has always been the best for me, took a listen or two to get into it at first, but when it slots into place it's simply staggering.

Dark Side's a good album to have on in the background, but I wouldn't call it their best album, it's a bit too inconsistent. If it was a horrible song, which took up other good songs' space, I could understand your argument. But this, I don't even...
Echoes is about 24 minutes long, and I consider it the best song they ever did.
In any case, SOYCD changes so much that it might well be comprised of different songs segueing together - much as The Wall could just as well be made up of four long songs.

I'm not arguing, I'm stating my opinion. In my opinion it is too long. It's a nice song but I get bored with it after a bit, hearing essentially the same song with a few different widdly bits over and over again. If they'd attempted to split them up and have them on the album as separate songs it might be different, but even with the one split it bores me.

Piper - Excellent debut. One of the best debut albums I've ever heard
Saucerful- Underrated brilliance.
Ummagumma - lolwut
Atom Heart Mother - Why the band hates this album is beyond me, it's bloody brilliant
Meddle - Fucking amazing album. I could go on just for Echoes alone.
DSOTM - Need I say more?
WYWH - The most emotional album I've ever heard, and I love it.
Animals - Best PF album hands down. Gilmour's best guitar work, brilliant lyrics by Roger, overall epic concept. And it's by far their most "progressive" album.
The Wall - Overrated as shit, but it's still a great album regardless.
Final Cut - Extremely underrated, but not the best by any means.
MLOR - Eh, it's okay. I really don't like the obvious 80s sound of it
Division Bell - Perfect finale to a perfect band.
I didnt include the soundtracks because they are kind of meh imo. OBC is good though

The story of Syd walking into the Wish You Were Here sessions and his ex bandmembers not recognizing him always gets me.
Yeah ive been reading about Syd. But its all the drugs that sent him mad wasnt it?
I think he was one of those people with a "fragile" mind, you know? And then everything probably just spiralled downhill when he started doing drugs. What always gets to me is the lyrics in "SOYCD" - when I was younger I thought he was dead because of lines such as "Nobody knows where you are, How near or how far, Shine on you crazy diamond, Pile on many more years, And I'll be joining you there". When I realised he was still alive I couldn't help but think how horrible it must be to experience a loved one drift away like that.
Wonder if Syd, through the years, followed the rest of the guys and their career from afar...
Well, anyway - you might wanna check this out: The Pink Floyd and Syd Barrett Story.
By the way, did any of you see that Syd was on the cover of the NME magazine from 23/5?

Not my favourite performance, but not bad either - how could it be with that solo? :)
I really liked Roger's performance of the song on the DVD"In The Flesh". Of course it would've been better if it was Gilmour playing, but Snowy and Doyle Brahalm II really did an awesome job. To me it seems that it's "easier" to replace Gilmour's solo on C Numb, whereas it just doesn't sound right when they have to replace Water's voice, so I guess that's why I would often prefer Water's performance of the song.

:yesey: The sound was a bit better, the venue wasn't as big so I was a lot closer to the stage, and the wall was smaller than in Copenhagen so it felt more intimate (I know, it's a weird word to use about a show this big) - the overall experience was just slightly better than the first concert.
Also, they played a new ending on Another Brick in the Wall, pt. 2 for the first time and then at least one new thing had been added to the wall design.

Also, they played a new ending on Another Brick in the Wall, pt. 2 for the first time and then at least one new thing had been added to the wall design.
I feel I have to say that I'm not a "he" :p

Has anybody seen The Pink Floyd Dimension? Theyre touring near me and I might go. They look quite good on youtube.
So, the other day I listened to the instrumental version of Falling Down and suddenly felt that I'd heard bits of it before somewhere else - and tadaeee, I realised that it reminded me of Pink Floyd.
Does any of you see the similarity?

Fair warning: You might be somewhat dissapointed with the album. =p It's not terrible, but it's not good either. At least in my opinion. Learning to Fly, On the Turning Away and Sorrow are great though
That is unless you've already heard it before buying, then I apologize
I love On The Turning Away. Probably my favourite post-Waters PF song.

EMI Music have just confirmed that on Monday (26th September) they will launch the 'Why Pink Floyd…?' 2011 remasters and collectors edition campaign by recreating the legendary Pink Floyd 'Animals' sleeve and float the Pink Floyd Pig above Battersea Power Station. This will be the first time in 35 years that the Pink Floyd Pig will fly again above the iconic London landmark. For more details visit PinkFloyd.com.

I don't consider Piper proper Pink Floyd.
Piper's an odd record. It took me a while to get to like it as it's so different to their more well known stuff, which is what I heard first. 'Interstellar Overdrive' and 'Astronomy Domine' are really great tracks. Plus 'Bike' is wonderfully bizarre.

I don't consider Piper proper Pink Floyd.
Neither do I. It's the only Pink Floyd album I love.* It's imperfect, and I tend to shove Arnold Layne and See Emily Play in there to add that extra accessibility, especially when playing it to others, but I really do love it. Nothing else really sounds like it, either before or since! It's simply wonderfully playful, noisy and whimsical pychadelia, utterly capturing the sound and feel of that Undergroud 60's London psychedelic culture. It still excites me every time I listen to it.
*EDIT: Which isn't to say I therefore actively dislike the rest of the albums. I just find for the most part that they contain the occasional flashes of breathtaking brilliance swamped by endless passages of uninspired tedium and endlessly recycled blues scales. Although, having listened to them since a teenager, I may have also simply got bored by them. But I find those brilliant bits are still worth the very occasional re-listen!

Dark Side of the Moon from my blue Australian tour vinyl (70's something issue) while being high is the pinnacle of all musical things I've heard. It encompasses so many emotions, moods and ways of beings. It reveals things of mysels and world I didn't know and brings up stuff I have buried.

It's alright, but 90 quid is a lot of money... There's some really cool stuff in there, but there's also some cheap, useless things - such as the facsimile ticket and backstage pass. There's also a handwritten note by Roger Waters concerning the questions answered throughout the album (his handwriting is very difficult to read :p )

Exactly. I must say, though that the DSOTM peformance from the Pulse DVD and CD seems to replicate a lot of the sounde effects and voice overs better. As you say, however, it's great to listen to the band performing DSOTM not long after the album came out and with the 70s lineup.
