Matt's best vocal performance of Dark Shines IMO - instrumentally my favourite was probably Leeds/Reading:

Also this (even though it's just about the only pro-shot we have of it, it's still fantastic):

The Brixton Academy bootleg one was pretty good too. But there aren't nearly enough recordings of the song to make full judgment. Looking at MuseWiki it wasn't as rare as once though to be.

I also like the vocals on L/R more except the screams before the outro. But the piano maddness at the end just takes it to another level. I really don't like the guitar outro.

I'm probably biaised as hell, seeing as it was my first muse gig for 6 years and my first as a fan, but Stockholm syndrome in Stockholm was especially epic. I wonder if we'd thought SS at reading would've been so extremely Great without the fires really, I think that thought troubles me when thinking of it as one of the best ever.

Don't get me wrong, SS at Reading was completely mindblowing, but I still think the one at Hovet 09 was better experience personally.

Depends whether you prefer the piano or guitar versions.

For piano: Hullabaloo or Montreux Jazz Festival 2002
For guitar: La Route Du Rock 2001

Those are my preferred versions anyway. Screenager was one of those songs that didn't really have any performances that were noticeably better than others.

Is it just me that finds something special with the iTunes Festival performance of Supermassive Black Hole? Dunno what it is exactly, but when i first saw it, something just seemed fantastic. And Matts guitar sounds incredible.

I reckon its also to do with how clear you can hear Chris during it (heck, most songs from that show aswell. Its like his lead songs have given him the boost to perform live a lot easier and louder) but that may just be me...

I always thought it sounded Chris like on the studio, but even if I'm wrong (not got the best ear at times) my point still remains, on the studio version the backing vocals are very clear, however I always felt live they were drowned out. iTunes seemed to change that.

The backing vocals in SMBH are clearly Matt. It's actually one of the easiest to determine. Songs like Soldiers Poem are much harder. But all the vocals on SMBH are definitely Matt. Listen to the way he sings "glaciers".

And during the "screaming"; listen both to the way he breathes and sings "Supermassive".

I'm fine with the backing vocals being loud, but not so loud that they completely drown out Matt at times. Honestly, Chris' mic was way louder than Matt's at iTunes festival and that's one reason why KoC sounded so bad there.

And also, when you're actually seeing them live yourself, the backing vocals sound pretty clear usually. Might depend on the venue, of course.

What was so interesting or impressive about that Fury falsetto? It's not that high or even very strong, and I'd much prefer hearing Matt sing the last chorus in a normal way.

The performance itself sounded okay. A bit messy, but could be just the recording.

Something doesn't have to be high or strong to sound good. And no one said the words impressive or interesting. In most cases I think people just spaff over anything that's different from the studio versions because it's different from the song they've listened to too many times to count.

But in this case it definitely adds something to an otherwise booooring song.

Oh and it IS kinda high.

I wasn't really saying that to anyone in particular, the words interesting and impressive came from the general opinion of the youtube comments, where some people seem to imply that that Fury falsetto would be one of the greatest falsettos ever from Matt. And although it indeed is quite high and all, to me it sounds more like weak distorted whining than anything else. Just my opinion, of course.

Oh and I know it's opinions and all, but the falsetto doesn't really make the last chorus better in any way. Now if Matt sang it the normal way and Chris would be doing some backing falsetto...

I've created a folder with their discography made only with the best live versions of each song because I just can't listen to the album versions anymore. My showbiz ended up like this:

Sunburn (Earls Court 2004 - 20th)
Muscle Museum (Hullabaloo)
Fillip (Eurokeennes Festival 2000)
Falling Down (Bologna, Italy 2012)
Cave (Hullabaloo)
Showbiz (Reading Festival 2006)
Unintended (Wembley Stadium - HAARP 2007)
Uno (Hullabaloo)
Sober (Glastonbury Festival 2000)
Escape (Rockpalast 1999)
Overdue (Paris MCM Café 1999)
Hate This and I'll Love You (Radio 1 Studios 2001)

My favourite versions of Showbiz are definitely Hullabaloo(whatever venue that is) and MCM 1999. Hullabaloo has the best performance overall but MCM is a bit more emotional for me, and the falsetto is incredible.

Oh and, the best Sunburn is definitely Radio 1's Big Weekend 2006.

Basically what happens when you try to hit a (usually) hard note in chest voice and fail, and thus crack into falsetto. So simply when you go into falsetto unintentionally. Most commonly displayed by guys in their puberty.

Same as me (except I was 14 when I went to my gig). You should be fine, the crowds really aren't that bad. You get the odd mosh pit here and there but you'd need to be pretty close to the front to be in one and even those don't tend to be fully violent ones.
