Stairway to Heaven song is a best perfomance because it have a nice voice and it is a released in 1971.increased tempo and volume as the song progresses. The song starts slow folk song accompanied by acoustic-based recorders thus it is a best song.

I haven't seen all the live songs or anything like that, but my favourite has to be "United States of Eurasia", performed on BBC's Children in Need 2009 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SWBSyQMN79k&playnext_from=TL&videos=A0fwlvhI2ZU).
And the best part of it is that they have an actual orchestra there, playing with them. You can even see that some of the orchestra members are moved by this song! I prefer this live version way ahead of the studio one. :)
Also worth mentioning is "Undisclosed Desires" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PiO0OfMEz5M&feature=related) from the same night. It's amazing how good they are live!

I really like these 2 performances of Falling Down. In the first one, they look like babies, but Matt's expressions are so intense and I love the DEEP thank you he does at the end after singing all of those falsetto notes through the song. It's almost like he talks deep on purpose:) The second performance Matt is into his dramatic faces on stage and just seems to rock the song more. This black guitar with the duct tape is my VERY favorite guitar he uses in early performances. Does anyone know if he still has it or did he destroy it along the way? I love this song:)

True, EC SS was a better performance, but Glasto's outro was better. Still, IMO, Pinkpop had a crazier outro than Glasto and in terms of riffs, nothing will ever beat their 2nd Staple Center show a couple days ago, when they played like 10 riffs after SS. Overall, Glasto SS is great, but not the best.

I have to say that Earls court is def. better than Glastonbury. I love this song and I think Earls Court is my favourite ever performance.
Firstly the guitar tone is far better in EC
The vocals are more prominent
The pre chorus is more crazy
There is generally more passion in matts voice
The last chorus is incredible when matt just sustains the chords while flailing his arm in the air. The last "forget you" is sustained to extra length. And the riffs last for longer at the end at EC (but unfortually these riffs are cut in the Absolution tour video)
The only thing that was better at Glastonbury was the scream which is still good at EC.

To be honest, I actually agree with many of your points. But my favourite part of SS Glasto, and what makes it the best ever live performance for me (and better than EC) is the outro. It's a fucking killer.
The first riff (the made-up one), is just brilliant, it pwns without a doubt.
Then you get the whole Chris in the crowd part and Matt on the drums... it was just the whole vibe and energy of the last 4 mins or so that made it epically awesome, plus the riffs and jams are better.
I know the same sort of stuff happened at Earls Court... but it doesn't sound as good, imo. It's still great, but the Glasto outro is epic, imo. THAT'S the crux of why it's better, for me, rather than the performance of the song itself.
That and the fact that the fecking outro of EC was practically cut from the Abso DVD - it's the best part and they just chopped and changed the footage . You don't see Chris go into the crowd/Matt and Dom on stage jamming/the carnage properly.
Stupid DVD also doesn't include any part of SS from Glasto on the DVD, the bastards, but at least you can see it all properly online thanks to BBC footage.
If you were to mix the main SS performance from EC with the outro from Glasto, you'd have the best performance in history! But as I don't hear a huge amount of differences between the main song (although the bits you mentioned are true... Matt's voice in EC has more passion, that last 'forget you' is epic and it's all much clearer), they're still very similar, so I go with Glasto.
However, you can ACTUALLY hear Chris speak in EC (when he says 'cheers'), which almost makes it win .
Lol I rambled on!

Ok fair enough, But the thing is that SS is my favourite song of all time so I prefer the song to the outros.
And to make it perfect, You need the EC Song with the groove in the states scream. Flames to come out with the scream, then the Glastonbury Outros and a guitar smash. And it needs a take a bow intro and to be the final encore. :D

Lol, well if we're going that far, then yes, I'd say that would def be the best thing in history, ever :D. Apart from the TaB bit... that's always been my favourite opener - I can't see it as a closing track, it just doesn't work as effectively, imo.
Omg now I actually want to see/hear the 'perfect' version you mentioned, lol! Someone needs to do some amazing editing so we can experience that level of awesomes! :awesome:

I recon that:
Dead Star + micro cuts outro
Stockholm Syndrome + the version that I described
would also be awesome. I like Take a Bow opening but I really liked it at Wembley when it opened the second encore, I thought it was far better than KoC....

Another vote here for SS EC over SS GB04. Riffs at the end are great but the song is what makes it, not the riffs at the end. All the screams are in the right place at EC and the vocals are immense.
Anyone else notice that New Born got slower for the tour this year? I was listening to HAARP and Hullabaloo and compared it to what I heard this year and it's almost at yawn-speed now compared to 2001-2007.. :(

So, soon I will be making many covers of Muse songs, just like everyone else around the world did. :)
TL;DR: JUST POST THE BEST PERFORMANCE YOU HAVE SEEN THAT IS ON THE LIST OF SONGS BELOW.
(PREFERABLY YOUTUBE OR MEDIAFIRE)
Things I like to do when I play Muse songs is this:
1. Take a look at many variations/live performances of a single song I would like to film (e,g Supermassive Black Hole), because it is played differently most of the time.
2. Put together different components of the live versions to create a single song for me to play.
Now, I've spent tons of time on YouTube looking for all these live performances, and some perfomrances I found were less appealing. So, I'm asking you kind folks on this forums to help me out with something.
Please look for the BEST performance, in your opinion, of the individual songs on this list. Then, please post the YouTube link or a mediafire (or any other download site links) link for me to download.
I will look over every single post, then will update this post with links with the best performance in my opinion.
If I already chose one video as the best performance of for example, Muscle Museum, and found a better video, I will make sure to remove the first link and update to the better version.
I'm hoping this topic will provide the best of MUSE to people who are just beginning to take interest in them.
Thanks, and here's the list.

Did they play it? *checks Musewiki*
Right. Abso was released on the 21st September 2003. The last performance of Hyper Music was the Cologne gig on the 7th September, but it contained loads of Abso tracks, basically the whole gig was Abso (Hysteria, Butterflies & Hurricanes, Sing For Absolution, Blackout, Time Is Running Out, Thoughts Of A Dying Atheist, Stockholm Syndrome, The Small Print). An interview with Dom said it was a gig on a small tour to promo the new album.
So technically, it hasn't been played on the Absolution tour itself.

Uprising live is often underated, because it's not that great an album track.
Live though, unbelievable. The outro is amazing, such a headbangfest.
The best performance IMHO was Glasto '10 (of the proshots I've seen), mainly because he didn't use the double neck. Soundwise, I like the double neck, the effects he can make while not playing. Sounds great. But it gives him very little freedom of movement in the solo and outro, so using the Mirror at Glasto was epic. KNEE SLIDES!!!!!!!

Out of the new/newer songs that have been played live, I'd say:
I Belong To You - Stade de France, second night, 2010
- Second time I saw it, and the best out of the performances I've seen (both live and on Youtube). Mostly due to Matt's voice.
MK Ultra - Rock In Rio, 2010
- Fireworks to open things up, MK Ultra opening the gig, and a performance where I suspect (although this might just be me imagining things) they played it at a slightly faster tempo. Got the crowd going and was a great performance overall.
Resistance - Glastonbury, 2010
- I wasn't actually at Glastonbury, but I really liked the performance of Resistance. Matt's been struggling a bit with the last note throughout the tour, but he really nailed it here. This is all judging from the bootleg DVD/livestream.
Only ones I can think of at the moment that actually stick out. Most of the songs off The Resistance were performed almost exactly the same at every gig, so picking one that was "the best" is close to impossible.

Feeling Good - Glastonbury 2010
I find the older Matt gets, his softer songs get much better vocal wise but the heavier songs and screams suffer. Feeling Good sounded amazing at Glastonbury 2010, especially the outro.
Citizen Erased - Wembley 2010
Again ties into the getting older thing, he closes out the final part of the song perfectly. Plus it includes the Glastonbury 04 riff.
Fury - Wiltern Theater 2004 / Orleans, France 2004
Screams, faster tempo just a pure rocking performance. Orleans had him humming in falsetto you hear in the background of the studio version in place of the final verse. Sounds amazing.
New Born - KROQ 2004
Back when New Born was still played at a fast tempo... plus the magic solo
Stockholm Syndrome - Earls Court 2004
Still have not topped this one. Scream to falsetto at the end and high energy. Too bad after 2005 Matt sounds like he's getting punched in the face and kicked in the stomach on the last "I wish I could".
Time Is Running Out - Glastonbury 2010
Perfect crowd atmosphere and they nailed down the instrumentation. Plus I'm a big fan of the Power of Soul riff.

The note may have ended weakly, but the fuzz factory almost perfectly masked it. It's not like it was an obvious glitch in the performance. Still, it's the most powerful, energetic performance of the song that I've seen.

There are so many... a really hard decision, but here JUST A FEW of my top-favs:
Assassin (join the resistance week) intro and outro - out of this world!!!
Dead Star (V-Festival 08) love the lyrics so much and the crowd-singing is perfect!!!
KoC (Wembley 07) when the riff kicks in ("c'mon Wembley") OMFG!!!
Muscle Museum (Glasto 04) at 0:59-1:13 Matt is just unbelievable!!!
Showbiz (Reading 06) The scream/falsetto at the end is so amazing and I love Chris' headbanging!!!
MotP (Abbey Road/5:44) Around 3:13 love it so much, when Matt, Dom and Chris look at each other, you can really feel, how close they are!!!
Fury (RAH 08) at 0:23 and 3:35 look at Matt our guitar-god!!!
Citizen erased (BDO Sydney 04) So raw... and look at Matt's face, when he is playing the main-riff!!!
Endlessly (04) Beautiful song and lyrics, the tear in Matt's eye at 3:20 makes me cry!!!
... I could go on and on... because I L O V E all Muse-Songs especially the live-versions!!!

I know you're not asking me but I'd agree that this is the case. My reason is hard to define but mostly is just that the vocals are much more impassioned, and the earliest and more recent performances just have much more improvisation and energy from the band.

Watch from 4:25 to 5:19. Pay attention to the signs of bad technique:
- He is extremely flat.
- He is constantly holding his head up, and his larynx is way too high.
- He is disregarding the song's rhythm, common for singers who are in pain.
- He is using some classic forcing techniques, but this is hard to explain.
- At times you can hear the irritation in his voice (Burn in hell, yeah you'll burn in hell... etc.)
I just don't get why they keep playing this song live. Maybe it doesn't hurt, but it is definitely unhealthy, and sounds crap IMO.

I think the first part of the song sounded good really. Alot of substance in the low parts and holds the notes well. He always holds his head high and leans backwards for more difficult notes to strain his voice as little as possible. But I do agree with you, TaB should at best be a rarity seeing he struggles quite a bit with it, though I still think he did a decent job on this one.

I thought it was a good performance. Considering it was so late on in the setlist and also as part of a back to back gigs, he coped quite well. It was far better than the performance on the Austrailian tour (Brisbaine i think?) where he really had trouble. I wonder why they haven't considered dropping it half a step though? Matt must surely know how much of a strain it is for him.
Mick4Kizna
16-05-2011, 04:55 PM
That seems like a song that could be used to be dropped half step. For some reason that's what they did to Starlight, and I don't really see why that was necessary.

So that they can play if every night ofc!
Even a little bit of strain can cause damage if it's repeated every night. And it's important that it still sounds good half a step down.

Thanks. I am very much in love with myself, too.
He always holds his head high and leans backwards for more difficult notes to strain his voice as little as possible.
That's different. The larynx rises naturally as you ascend in range. Singers who tilt their head back are doing so because their neck is constricted, and there is no space for their larynx to rise, so they need to create space.
Holding his head high (not back) and leaning backwards is just good posture for breath support.
I wonder why they haven't considered dropping it half a step though?
Probably because it goes through so many key changes that transposing the entire song would be too confusing (read: laziness, again). That's just a guess, though. :p

Yeah, I see what you mean. I mean, I can sing Starlight in it's entirety without much bother, and I'm not much of a singer. Judging by songs like Uprising, it's not like it's too high for his chest voice to reach, and I know his falsetto/head voice/whatever wouldn't struggle with it normally, so I don't see why they drop that down at all. Unless it's for Chris' backing...

How easy songs like that come to depends on your voice type. I'm sure that any tenor would do it without much trouble. You don't have to be a singer to reach high or low notes.
I don't think the falsetto/head voice matters. As far as I'm aware, it's the chest notes that is the problem.
And also, it's not about being too high to reach. Matt can definitely go higher than the notes in Starlight. It is about being able to perform this every night without damaging the voice.

Yeah you're probably right, I guess it's completely different from person to person, and like you said, when you're performing as often as Muse tend to, the strain builds up.

It's more to do with sitting in a difficult range for a long period of time, which tends to cause a lot of muscular tension in the throat -- and that leads to forcing and damaging your voice. The hardest part of Starlight isn't the chorus, it's the second bridge onwards.
But anyway, this is pretty far off-topic now.
