They're ok. Used to love them when I was like... 11, funnily enough.
No Doubt, them and Muse were probably my main interests through-out that year.

Yeah I've been a fan for awhile.
Clarity is one of my favourite records, and they're certainly one of the few bands I like that carry the emo tag. Pre-Clarity stuff was ok, but I love the mellow, melodic music on Clarity more.
I really loved Bleed American, or self titled, when it came out aswell. A good mix as you say between the more baldry type songs and the agressive rock tunes, both work really well on what for me is an awesome album.
I didn't mind Pain to be honest, though it was abit of a tune! I don't think Futures in anyway betters the previous two albums though, and it has one too many moments I'm not really into for my liking.
Great band though, and usually very good live.

they seem highly underrated, well i.m.o anyways, what was the single they realesed before "pain", my bro had the bleed america album, but lost it!, will have to get it, and probably the new one,
Bleed America(salt sweat sugar) and sweetness are so diverse from one another but they rock so much

I'm a Jimmy Eat World fan, they have a number of very solid tracks.
Anyone who likes them should check out a band called Anberlin. They sound fairly similar, yet have a slightly more aggressive (I suppose you could say that) tone to their music. Their last album, Never Take Friendship Personal is a very good album, I highly recommend it.

Jimmy Eat World Confirms Release Date For New Album
CHASE THIS LIGHT IN STORES OCT. 16 ON INTERSCOPE RECORDS, FIRST SINGLE "BIG CASINO" ON AIR END OF AUGUST
"Jimmy Eat World delivered a captivating performance - one that spanned, and sometimes re-imagined, its catalog..." - Arizona Republic
"The concert was a triumph on all levels.. If you have any chance whatsoever to see this tour, do what you must. Road trip, buy tickets on eBay, whatever. Just get there." - AbsolutePunk.net
"It was so good, I was still singing in the shower two days afterwards. I suspect that was the feeling of the rest of the crowd as they walked out, most of them with some variation of "wow" or "oh my god" on their lips or cell phones. Let's hope a live recording from this tour gets released because it truly was something to behold." - Pastepunk.com
"The band teased the audience by performing two new ready-for-radio tracks - "Carry You" and "Big Casino"... the show was packed with highlights... the group brought the house down." - GetoutAZ.com
Having just completed a rapturously received tour of intimate rooms on which old standards, rarely performed favorites and a few new songs were aired, Jimmy Eat World has confirmed an October 16 release for their new album Chase This Light. The new album is the follow up to the gold-certified Futures, which has sold over 600,000 copies in the U.S. since its Oct. 2004 release and landed on ROLLING STONE, BLENDER and SPIN's Best of 2004 lists. Futures itself came in the wake of the band's 2001 breakthrough album Jimmy Eat World (originally titled Bleed American).
The band is currently en route from its debut trek through South Africa to a run of UK/European festival shows, including Reading and Leeds at the end of the month, which will conclude as Chase This Light's first single "Big Casino" hits radio. Other highlights from the forthcoming record include the uptempo singalong "Electable (Give It Up)," "Carry You" (cited as a highlight of their recent warm-up shows), and sure to be future live staples "Let It Happen" and "Like She'll Always Be."
The complete track listing for "Chase This Light" is:
1. Big Casino
2. Let It Happen
3. Always Be
4. Carry You
5. Electable (Give It Up)
6. Gotta Be Somebody’s Blues
7. Feeling Lucky
8. Here It Goes
9. Chase This Light
10. Firefight
11. Dizzy
As one of my all time favourite bands have just got around to announcing the release date for their new album, I thought this would be a good opportunity to remind people just how good they are. Have a couple of video from their last album, Futures...

listening to the new album ("Chase this light") right now. its a pretty good album, a lot better than most of the garbage put out these days.
From what i have listened I have noticed:
-The album doesn't seem to have any raw emotion (like in table of glasses) which is a bummer
-The album doesn't have any sweet huge riffs (like the intro to Futures)
-Some of the songs sort of resemble those on Futures.
besides those 3 things, the album is pretty good so far.

I've been listening to it since early yesterday. I wrote a mini-review for another message board, so I may as well post it up here... save me typing anything new.
Hardly the most in depth review I've ever written, but it's 3:35am so here's each track reduced to a one sentence (or there abouts) soundbite. Apologies in advance for any spelling erorrs that may be included.
Big Casino - The first single, and we've all heard it numerous times by now, but it still sounds fresh evertime I hear it. It's a punchy little number that ensure the album hits the ground running. A quality opening track.
Let It Happen - Female backing vocals, gotta love 'em. The "dual vocal chorus" thing worked well on Work (from Futures), but I think it's done better on this track. Probably just due to the fact I prefer the voice of this young lady than the other one.
Always Be - One of my highlights on the album... the intro makes you wonder where the hell it's going, what with the echoing finger clicks. But then the vocal hits, and Jim starts singing those lyrics that raise a smile because (for better or for worse) you just relate to 'em. The "I've always been right behind what's happening/She'll always be a little far for me to reach" lines are some of my favourite lyrics on the album.
Carry You - Woah, did this Go Big Casino number get a make over. While I liked the ever-so-slight melancholy acoustics of the original, it just wouldn't have fitted in on a modern day Jimmy LP.
Electable (Give It Up) - Who said politics and music don't mix? Lyrics relevant to modern day society without being preachy wrapped up in a 3 minutes of rockin' goodness. It also has one of the best bridges on the album, paticularly the bit on 1:55 to 1:56 exactly.
Gotta Be Somebody's Blues - Here comes the comedown. Occupies a role on this album similar to what Drugs Or Me did on Futures, but this does it's job netter. Easily the darkest songs on the album, Jim never breaks above a Jack Bauer-esque moody whisper, and it's got strings. Never underestimate just how cool strings can be. You've got the cello's sliding in, laying the groundwork for the violins. Would I be correct in saying this is the most significant string section in a Jimmy Eat World tune since Just Watch the Fireworks? All in all, a class song.
Feeling Lucky - Kind of lightens the mood a bit after the previous track. I bit of a shame it only clocks in at just over 2:30 but, having saying that, it probably wouldn't have worked any longer. As it is, it just sounds "right". Top air-drumming moments to be had on this one, trust me.
Here It Goes - Next single. Has to be. I mean. come on. Easily the most radio friendly thing the band have done since "The Middle". I remember Jim saying something along the lines of he tried to write a 3 mintute pure pop song with "Jen" from Futures. Well, whether he meant it or not, I think he's just gone and done it with this little ditty. I swear, if you don't tap your feet to this tune, you're dead inside. A glorious little song,
Chase This Light - The title track, it has that signature Jimmy Eat World melody... that "sound" that only this band can do.
Firefight - Probably the "rockiest" song on the LP along with Big Casino and Electable, I notice this songs getting some love on the board. And I just want to say it's totally deserved.
Dizzy - I know it's a cliché to say it's the 23 of Chase This Light, but to hell with it, I'm gonna say it anyway. This song is as epic an LP closer as 23 was. I think (but don't quote me on it) it's the only track that has a piano on it on this album, but when coupled with the strings it just adds an almost emotional weight to the song. It gives you a sense that this is what the album's been building up to... an aural climax, if you will. But there's one bit where the grandiose "epicness" falls away... from 3:10 to 3:34 Jim nails the vocal perfectly, with basically just a guitar for company. It's stands out like someone screaming to be heard, before everthing comes crashing back in. For me, the probably the best song on the album.
So then, final thoughts: Jim's voice has never sounded better. It's a more optimistic record than Futures was, similar to what Bleed American was but it's got a sense of purpose or direction that BA lacked. But it's not overtly optimistic, in a "bouncey happy smiley" fashion, which is nice. I never heard the demo's so I can't so whether or not some of them should've made the album or not. That said, I'm hoping the UK gets a couple of bonus tracks like we did with Futures. That'd just sweeten an already very sweet deal.
So then, with that all that's left is to thank for band for creating an excellent LP. Kudos to you, guys. Your efforts are appreciated.
Who's got tickets for the tour then?
I will get one for the B'ham gig, but i'm poor at the moment :(

3. Futures
4. Invented
5. Chase This Light
6. Static Prevails

Although I love everything I've heard from this band. They remind me of a mash up between U2 and Radiohead, which is awesome.
