Epic song. Verrry atmospheric, eerie lyrics that repeat over and over like chanting. Mmm at the amazing guitar distortion and trundling drum beat. Doom-filled crescendo = :supertong :D

Appreciate it! Now!

Unique. Muse were way better back in the days... and i always felt their b-sides and japan released songs were also way better than the ones on cd (ok, some exceptions :P) but con_science, spiral static, recess, host, piano thing and fury... are among my top 15 muse songs :P

No way man. Really?!?!
oh yeah! no doubts bout it. I prefer muse raw. to muse showbiz, OoS and those b-sides i referred are best thing muse has ever done. I'm one those who thinks BH&R is good to be smashed and spitted on lol. Absolution is good but well, nothing special. Muse from 98 to 2002 will always be my muse, after that, just pain and sorrow lOl :P i know some people agree with me, but i also know that for others this is weird :P ut, hey, it's my opinion ;) I listened muse since day 1, maybe its because of that, if i got to know muse now from their last albums i'd hate em, i'm sure. cheers

Cool. I love that thats your opinion. (Is weird though. lol) I became a fan from Time Is Running Out. Had never heard of them before that. I always say the opposite, if Muse came along nowadays with Showbiz i really don't think i'd be a fan at all. OOS is genius. Possibly my favourite Muse album. Slight contradiction this next but i know but i really do think Muse are getting better and better. Some of the music on Black Holes is awesome. Come on, Take A Bow?... No? I think it's amazing anyway.

To people from Leicester: Imagine standing in Knighton Park, in November, at about 9pm with Take A Bow blasting through your earphones... (ok, slightly weird i know) was amazing!

I used it in a film I made with a cousin once. It was inspired by horror movies. It involved cross dressing. :|

I can tell u know muse since absolution or BH&R ;) usually people who agree with me are the ones who also listen to muse since day 1 and the one's who think i'm weird know muse for only 4 or 5 years (or less sometimes). The things is there's something that splits muse (musically speaking) in time, and that's absolution. Matt thought he no longer had the need to grieve like in showbiz, or to hate like in OoS, he may have thought it was now time to live and love again and to write about thinks like wars and the end of the world that's coming our way. I understand that, he has a right to do so. But when the lyrics lost their sadness they lost their rawness, and absolution shows us exactly that : new lyrics, happiness, sucess, freedom, and so they tried new new things, and they keep on doing that. For some that means they are getting better, music is sounding clearer and the lyrics are cathcy, but to me is better when a band feels what they sing and play, and they'r like raging bulls crying their emotions out. That was what i loved in muse, and that's why my love for muse is now dying cause they turning into something they weren't. In matt's words i say something to 'em : "you you were was so beautiful.." ;) cheers

I understand and agree with some of your points. I've never been a lyrics person really so i wouldn't really know about that side of things. Haha But i understand your point. Matt's grown up and obviously different things are important to him nowadays. And that's only going to change as time moves on. I like a raw sound and i agree that some of Black Holes is a bit too clean.

You probably aren't a Travis fan, i don't think many Muse fans would be i suppose, but they're going down the raw, rough side with their new album after the polished and well produced album of last year. They wrote it in 5 weeks, recorded it in 2 weeks and mixed it in about a week i believe. They've used 1968 16 track recorders and everything. From hearing the album live, its raw and rocking (people who don't know much about Travis will be very, very surprised). Basically, my point is, i wouldn't be surprised to see Muse go down this route with the album after next. I think, and hope, they will do. Just because its quick doesn't mean it can't be compex (is that the right word?). This new Travis album sounds like its going to be crazy. People that have heard parts say its mental.

There is more to music than sad lyrics. You can't keep going on about the same old doom and gloom all the time, there has to be variety, it's what keeps Muse/music interesting. It's funny that you point out the lyrics considering that is probably Muse's least important feature...

Anyway, the song is among my top 5 B sides and top 20ish muse songs.

The piano part is quite chilling, and I love the way it descends into the outro.

I wouldn't use that to describe it, as the outro is waay to dark and heavy to imply ascent. Doesn't seem fitting.

I'm getting too technical here...

Great track. Not sure when it was written, but should have replaced Overdue on Showbiz.

Time isn't Running Out
17-04-2008, 07:06 PM
It appeared on the first edition of the MM single, so its Showbiz era or earlier.

Could have replaced a decent chunk of Showbiz. Perhaps Unintended (simply because its completely different from the rest of the album. I do like it though).

I wonder what it would sound like live. I expect it would be similar to, say, Hoodoo.

This is like a B-side off of Amnesiac! Matt proves he can compose the "minor-key art rock" of Radiohead if he so desired. Now I just looked up the record date(1999), means he was coming up with the same quality of material as Thom Yorke was at the same time.

I really love the hesitance in the background with the little accompaniment that is so unlike Muse.

There are 1000s of con-sciences on youtube..! There is obviously a big difference between simple and amateur, but con-science just sounds to me like one of those songs you think sounds good when you first get a keyboard, but you realise later is actually quite hard to pull off well.

You mean original compositions that move me as much as Matt's little gem? Sorry, but you have to give evidence. I haven't seen anything to prove that there are 1000s of little genius on Youtube. Sure, anyone can come up with a 4-note motif. But can they sing like Matt, create lyrics like him, add the drums and guitar distortion like he does?

So can you provide one link to an original composition on Youtube that is as good as Con-Science?

Jeez, we've got some defensive people in this thread.

Anyway, this song is...meh, alright I suppose.
I think the beginning is too slow and drawn out. It gets better when the drums and bass come in.
Not one of their better B-Sides, but not bad.

I kind of like the slow progression throughout the song...some people think the buildup isn't much of a buildup but I really like it. It's brilliantly haunting and definitely a favorite B-side of mine

I felt the need to post in this thread. I absolutely adore Con-science! I listened to it at first, and thought...'Hm...this is odd, it's a bit simple really' But that's what's so amazing about it. The simplicity, and then suddenly this big crescendo (sp?).

I think Con-science is one of Muse's diamonds in the rough...it's beautiful!
