im pretty certain when i started this thread, i titled it 'the eeeeeeels'. or im i going mad? anyways, go to the hmv sale. its great! (i should know, if your in the argyle street store in glasgow, and you see all the cds with the yellow sale stickers on them... that was me! ...stupid work experience...) yes, so tonnes of stuff in it, including the eels' albums. and all for that low price of a fiver!

*phew* at least some sane people have heard of 'em then.
For a first album I'd go for Beautiful Freak - it's what got me started.
I almost have all of their albums now, shootenanny is the best so far, but they're all great and have fantabbydosie songs on them all.

Please someone agree that 'What is this note?' is the best Eels song?

hehe.. I've been to their Brisbane show on Wednesday - "Eels with strings", and it was ace! They had a string quartet (sort of,: 3 violins + cello) and 2 other guys playing on lots of other instruments, like a hand-saw and a vibrator! And of course there was E, with a full suit and acigar...They also did a weird version of Novcain...

I also really liked Blinking Lights and Other Revelations, that's the only Eels album I have, but that's going to change soon :D

Does anybody know where I could get Bootlegs of their recent shows?

Apperantly, that organ is called a 'celesta' (I had to do some research to find out the names of some of the instruments they played on). It has a sort of dreamy sound, doesn't it? And they did like 3 encores, in the final one they were dressed in pajamas! And at the end he passed his cigar to the crowd. I got to take a puff

Thanks for the offer :D ;)

Just came back from The Eels concert.

It was very different from what I saw last year in 'Eels with Strings'. This year's tour title is 'Eels with No Strings Attached'.

"Last year, the 'With Strings' thing was kind of a gentleman's Eels concert," E said in a May 15 interview from his home in Los Angeles. "I think this one's gonna be a little more what you might call not your parents' Eels concert. There was just a bunch of girls playing violin and cellos where the drums should have been last year and it's time to rectify that situation."

"Whatever I'm doing every year is the ultimate Eels band in my mind," E said. "I always feel like this is the (best), this is the way to do it and I just pour everything into it. ... Right now, I'm a big fan of the electric guitar since I didn't play it at all last year. It's fun to plug it back in."
from leisure.newstimeslive.com

The Eels came out in flight suits with dark gogles --- trying to achieve a 'bad boy' image. He had a bottle of Jack Daniels on the stage (although he didn't drink much), and stuck his tongue to the audience. Guitars in full blast, and rocked all the way. It was a bit too loud, but it was a lot of fun, and music was great as always.

After the gig, I hang out at the back door and he came out. He chatted with us 6 fans, until we run out of the words ... he was cool! I stayed about 1/2hour, showering Mr. E's cigar smoke on my head. :stunned:

Yeah, he is an eccentric artist you know ... Last time I saw a painted polkadot suitcase used as a drum. He was kind, though. After the show, I met him in the back alley with 5 other fans. One girl asked him to sign on her 'eels' underware and he took time to sign it, using her back as a table.

The club was in Little Italy, and it was right after Italy-Portgal game. Some Porgese soccer fans shouted "Italy couldn't even score!!" to Mr. E's face, so he shouted back "Oh, Mamma Mia!!", even though he seem have NO interest in soccer.

Eels are one of the best live bands I think I have ever seen..and I have seen a lot of bands live!
Saw them at the Astoria last night and they were absolutely fantastic...mental but fantastic.
Smoosh (that band with the 12 and 14 year old girls) supported and came on to dance the encore also.
erm...yes! if you like them and ever have a chance to see them ever, take it!

And it was brilliant. The show was great, and there are clips in between some songs, which shows the backstage. Mr. E is an interesting and lovable guy (although he swears A LOT), and I see a good relationship with the band.

It has good extras including him being on radio shows. A great DVD.

1. Man Up - EELS

3. To Lick Your Boots - EELS
4. The Good Old Days - EELS
5. The Sound Of Fear - EELS
6. Wooden Nickels - EELS
7. Flyswatter - EELS
8. Blinking Lights (For Me) - EELS
9. Somebody Loves You - EELS
10. Sweet Ballad - Munchausen By Proxy (Featuring Zooey Deschanel & Von Iva)
11. Uh-Huh - Munchausen By Proxy (Featuring Zooey Deschanel & Von Iva)
12. Keystar - Munchausen By Proxy (Featuring Zooey Deschanel & Von Iva)
13. Yes Man - Munchausen By Proxy (Featuring Zooey Deschanel & Von Iva)
