Bit of a weird and pointless comparison to make.

Actually not really at all, they're both in a considered single group of songs that ended albums consecutively, seems like it makes complete sense to compare honestly.

Either way maybe we can all agree that it'd be cool if they just end the next one with a single song, or atleast something with lyrics.

So...I was messing with my guitar today for the first time in a good while...and I was like, "I'll play that riff that just goes along the low E string...New Born that's it...did I almost forget the riff to New Born?"

This reminded me that I actually haven't listened to Origin of Symmetry, perhaps even New Born, for...well over a year, perhaps two. Yes, with this nickname of mine.

So I've put it on now...I've got to Hyper Music right now... My impression so far is...fuck me does Matt sing through his nose or what? Seriously though, this is a very uncanny feeling, I know all the songs but I'm hearing them in quite a different light now. Let me grab my cane and dentures.

Fury

It always takes more than one listen for me to enjoy a Muse song. I first heard Fury a long while ago when I was listening through all of Random 8 and the b-sides for the first time through (with the exception of a couple I already knew) and didn't like it. I liked it less than most Muse songs I has listened to before. Must have been a strange first reaction. When I came hear, I noticed the love for Fury for the first time. It was barely mentioned elsewhere, but here it's regarded as one of Muse's greatest. So, out of curiosity, I played it again a few hours ago. I loved it. More than most other Muse songs. It's in my current top five. That opening is one of the best things my ears have ever heard.

It's my favourite part of the sing by far.Not trying to start anything here, just wanna understand what you mean. Do you mean...backing vocals? In this case it sounds a bit like a barbershop quartet. But what do you mean by the original? There are like 3 (and a half I guess) versions, and the first one didn't have the backing vocals (because it was live). That wasn't until the studio version which is around 3 and a half minutes long, is that the one you mean? But then again the version that came after that ALSO had the backing vocals.

I would say backing vocals, but I'm pretty sure that's when another band member sings them. I remember reading another term for when it is the lead singer doing the backing vocals through editing.

The official album release is what I mean. Wasn't too fond on the other two versions I've heard. Sorry for the confusion.

Isolated System. When I first heard it through the social networking unlock release thing prior to the album, I was bitterly disappointed. The dance beat thing and then how that drum fill at the end just ended the piece rather then sent it to the climax...

But now, I love the eerie atmosphere about it - the strings are beautifully arranged, the piano simple yet effective. An amazingly eerie ender for an album.

I just realized that the drum beat in Showbiz is the exact same drum beat that leads the children in Jumanji to find the board game. Crazy, they might've been influenced by it, Jumanji came out in 1995, Showbiz in 1999.

I always find when USOE comes on that I start enjoying it until the Queen bits to be honest. That album's full of half likeable songs that are ruined by something relatively minor halfway through. Even I Belong To You and its horrible lyrics. MK-Ultra and Redemption are probably the only two tracks I can't fault, which is a pretty low number for a Muse album. :$

I wonder if I combined the best of TR and the best of T2L into a single album, how much better would it come out? :erm:

Edit - Considering I don't like most of what I've heard from Drones so far, I could do the same there. Supremacy-MK Ultra-Reapers-Animals wouldn't be a bad opening to an album. :chuckle:

This is completely, exactly, how I feel.

I've many times thought "why do I hate this song so much again...?" upon hearing USoE come on... and then the "sha, sha, SHA" parts kicks in, and the song gets turned off. :noey:

On topic, my bf informed me that he often just "tunes out" when I listen to "old Muse" so despite hearing Shrinking Universe probably literally 100s of times, it wasn't until he listened to it intentionally the other day that he, well, LISTENED to it.

Besides not being the "rock" Muse people seem to always want, it suffered from the same issue as DI - starts with some weird, off-putting bit of "pop fluff." The ma-ma-ma beginning put me off the song immediately.

Exo-Politics! Especially the early version, somehow I've always loved it but forgot it for a moment during the whole Drones hype.

I love the early version (I call it Timescale Keeper), especially the intro. The song has a completely different vibe to it. Was happy enough to see it live.

I was so disappointed by the studio version, that I never got to really like it, even though it is not that bad.

Just falling back in love with Hysteria again at the moment, I think it's the flow through SS/FAWY and then Interlude which feeds in perfectly for this beast of a song. After a bit of fatigue from hearing the well-known songs, skipping them for a while while listening to other tracks and going back to it make me appreciate how awesome it really is. And to go back to Falling Away With You, I did not realise how great it actually is, along with Aftermath it's great to hear a Muse love song that isn't overblown. While OoS is my favourite album, I always forget how epic Abso actually is!

Micro Cuts.

Always liked it, especially the outro, but just been obsessed by this one the last few days. I've been listening to a lot of classical music lately (especially Berlioz) and while it doesn't sound anything like classical music, I think it reminds me of the great classical composers because of how idiosyncratic it is.

The arpeggios, strange tempos, weird chords/chord changes, rock/metal outro riff, the unintelligible/bizarre lyrics and of course Matt's piercing ethereal vocals somehow joined into one unified song not even 4 minutes long. Just incredible - I've never heard anything else like it.

I think they just didn't wanna have everyone expect them to do anniversary gigs for every album, which would be the case if they did Abso.

Not that I know why that would be such a problem. Seems like a good PR stunt and a fan pleaser. But I'm sure they'll do some special gigs in the future, maybe full album gigs, new setlist polls etc. Sadly the polls we got were during a tour where Muse were basically on autopilot, and then they realised it was quite fun to be impulsive during the following one.

Uprising > Resistance > Undisclosed Desires
Pretty good listen

Glorious

I so wish it was on the album... And played live sometimes...

And

Ruled by Secrecy

Its dark atmosphere is absolutely haunting, especially the vocals, wonderful and gloomy...

I SO MISS tracks like this one. Their piano ballads have become such a bland piece of whiny shit. And I hate that they started making songs like that damn United States of EuraSIA! I think this might be becoming my least favorite song from The Resistance, even less favorite than.. Guiding Light. There, I said it.

I agree tbh. Their piano songs have lost a lot of their diversity over the last few years imo, aside from maybe IBTY. What happened to the big, heavy piano songs like Space Dementia, Apocalypse Please, Megalomania, RBS or even Sunburn and Con-Science?

That said...I've been loving Soaked at the moment :chuckle: Lovely song, I always forget about it but it's probably one of my favourites. Wish it made it onto BH&R or even TR, apparently Chris and Dom didn't approve though.

I agree with you. Apocalypse please, Space Dementia... look like rock piano songs. We can feel the rock inside these songs and they are so perfect. Nowadays, as you said, IBTY, Explorers are funny, just funny. It will be perfect if these songs were in a Christmas album. It's more rythmic, and no longer rock ballads. Even the end of The Globalist looks like Explorers and USoE more than Sunburn, Ruled by Secrecy or Apocalypse. I really want them to create real good (old) piano songs.

This. As much as I love The Globalist, I still can't help but do this - when that piano part begins, especially after learning it's basically a cover. I wish that that part was just piano playing the 'But you can rise up like a God...' and ending in a big, heavy minor chord, just like before it kicks into the heavy riff. Imagine, how cool would that be?

so for a while, maybe a year or two ago, KoC was my favorite song. then I started listening more to everything else, however KoC has once again gotten stuck in my head (not that i'm complaining).

the music video is bomb af like??? idek what's going on but i love it. plus, the song is just perfection. the eerie beginning, the firey chorus, and do I even need to mention the dilemma between listeners when you can't figure out if it's matt singing or his guitar?????????????

Really hit me unexpectedly one night. It brought me to tears, actually. I might just be in the perfect mindstate for it to hit me like that though.

The Groove.

I was jamming out and I had the urge to play the riff. I'd love if Muse did more Hendrix-esc stuff like that, it's just a jam.

I just got really hooked onto Assassin Grand Omega Bosses Edit. Like a lot. I never really noticed it's epicness before, but when I heard they played it at the Mayan, and people were getting all excited about it, I gave it a listen, then another, then, yeah I got completely hooked. Don't know what happened.

Just listened to the Resistance instrumental. The studio version is sooo underrated, too bad the live version just falls flat...

It's really just the "It could be wrong" pre-chorus bits that bring it down for me, and I guess the chorus is a bit forgettable. Other than that it's pretty decent, the intro and outro are pretty haunting.
