Hahah that surely had to be interesting to witness

Haven't met them yet. Not really counting on meeting them anytime soon; they're a bit too popular in SoCal now.

Go 'round the back of the venue, hang around the big trucks and tour bus. They might come out, they might not, depends. I was more interested in finding beer at the time so I split, but my friends stuck around for 3 hours and they didn't show.

Why was Matt intimidating? Details please! :D

I think Matt feels more intimidated than Dom or Chris being that he's put on the spotlight more often.
I know he tries to befriend fans, but he's also afraid of the casual freak fan who goes... OMG!! OMG!! MATT I LOVE YOU!! and then tries to hug him and smooch him. If he comes across as intimidated, I can't blame the guy. There's some fucked up people out there who are insanely obsessed with celebrities, and yes we love Muse dearly but we should also know that there's a line we shouldn't cross, and try to show them respect.

I was happy enough having them sign my poster and thanking them, and then I let them go on to sign stuff for other fans. I asked Dom to write "SIT THE FUCK DOWN!" and he did and then smiled :D

I met them in a backstage bathroom

Matt was attentive and beautiful
Dom was distracted and writing on the wall
Chris was shy and cute

The following year I met Dom. He was talkative and nice.

Dom seemed as though he didn't want to be there

Teh Kirk was awesome, spoke to us for ages, and Matt was really talkative surprisingly!

And apart from that, all I can remember was freezing my bollocks off

First time seeing them I met Chris and Dom after the show... they're really good about going out and taking pictures with fans and signing things. They were really tired, but they were very pleasant and didn't snub anyone.

Second time seeing them I met Matt and Dom at a radio station here. These photos (http://www.mydisorder.com/Pictures/MUSE/index.html) are what resulted, including some time to chat with them (Matt's very nice, too, he was having fun with the whole air cannon thing). I can say that Bellingmey has touched my butt, whether it was intentional or not. :stunned:

first time i met them was backstage in greece on oct 4th.
i was the first to go in the room and they just stood there looking at me and i had no fucking idea about what to do. thats until matt reached out his hand and i got closer. it was kinda like a stranded dog when he see's a friendly stranger. if i had a tail.... you get the idea.
they were all very very nice, and amusing.
the israeli fan club bought them a star and they really liked it.
if anyone remembers Liron's posts about it from the athens show posts, it was amusing.
dom pointed at the wall and everyone looked at it.
they treats their fans in the most amazing way and i'm proud of that. was great to see them laugh, matt was dancing. we had groups hugs.
you gotta love them.

Most amazing experience ever... I died and went to heaven it was unbelievable for me lol to meet someone who I view as a god lol (the other 2 being Chris and Dom, but unfortunately it wasn't to be :( I'll try again another time I'm sure lol) afterwards I cried lol I was well emotional :p everyone else (boardies) was like "auww"

It was at the CPH gig this year... I'm sure Bizzie, MandyNau and bekbee can tell you how insane I behaved

I didn't even want to go and meet them because I was scared about what I'd do/say lol. The whole time I was like "don't say I love you" haha so all that really came out of my mouth besides where I was from was "It's an absolute honour to meet you." Thank god he looked chuffed lol instead of like "wtf" that would've killed me lol. But what I stupid thing to say... I was looking for anything to say other than "I love you" I hope to god he didn't think I was trying to be funny with "absolute"... :$ :$ :$

If I met Matthew then I'd give him this quote that I read in a book called 'Hyperspace' that I think he's read too.

But it's reall interesting, and I think he'd understand that I'm not a school girl fan, but more of a fan of the way he experiments with instruments and plays on the fringe of music.

I was lucky enought to meet all 3. Had to wait 3 hours after the show. Luckily, one of the security guards saw us waiting patiently by the bus, along with about 12 other fans, and told us he would ask the guys to come out. Chris(drinking a Corona) and Dom came out first then Matt snuck up on us about a minute later. All three were very sweet, and Matt seemed very interested in the personalized license plate I brought for them to sign. He kept asking me questions about it, and even showed it to his security guys. He kept asking so many questions, I didn't get a chance to ask any! :p

They seemed very amused that I kept saying "Please" and "Thank You". Whenever I thanked them, they would glance at each other and smile.

Well, If I ever meet them (which probably means, IF I ever try to), then I hope they keep asking me questions, at least I'll have some interesting things to say, 'cause what I certainly WON'T say is "I love you" or "OMG you're the best!!!". I'd just like to have a nice chat with those guys, but as I am with anyone I meet (famous or not), in the beginning I'm always waaaaay to shy. Only when people are nice to me, I get more relaxed and talkative.

i havent met them. but i havent really tried. perhaps next time they are touring.

I'm thinking the same, maybe I should try, without trying too crazy stuff, but then I'd also like to find some other people who want the same. In that case, it can be fun to wait for three hours after a show, just making fun, drinking some beer and acting silly while waiting :)

That is actually part of the fun, meeting other people while you are waiting. There have been occasions where the band have been in a hurry so, as I've met them all before, I've stood back to let others in who havent. I love seeing how excited other people are after meeting them!

Right. Same things at festivals btw, when they start preaching about politics or whatever, I feel like throwing something to that stage, but pfffffttt at Belgian festivals you just can't take anything with you, how shitty is that?!?

It's just not their thing, everything is said with the songs. It makes the whole set sorta fit together instead of being torn appart by ramblings :)

I know alot of bands who do talk alot between songs and it can be entertaining if they actually have something interesting to say. :) And other people should just shut up...

I met them in 05 twice:

http://r0xikat.livejournal.com/43717.html - houston meet and greet .. see icon
http://r0xikat.livejournal.com/45842.html - austin insanity involving certain bikes

I haven't met them since then.. I've chatted with Tom at ACL 06. i convinced him to let security let the signing w/ muse go longer, but I still didn't get to go up there ._. I've tried pretty much every time I've gone to see them.. but meh.

in a nutshell:
matt: in houston, i asked for a hug and got one. I was freaking out a little. :D he did my voicemail in austin, which is a bit of a legend around here.. I should upload that on to muselive. very sweet, I don't really think we talked much. my brain was mush.
dom: I didn't expect him to be so short. also very sweet.
chris: surprisingly, I've talked to him the most. TALL. :D
tom: obvi around more, very nice guy!

god i would really love to meet them! but i have to find something interesting to say if i would. when i get nervous i either talks alot about just random crap, or i just stay calm and shy. that sucks.

hm, maybe i'll aim for a chat with them next time they'll visit sweden. i guess it would be worth the waiting anyway. not just because i adore their music, they seem to be funny, intelligent and nice guys.

Yeah same here. I'd like to meet them but not because I'm after famous people or that I want to show off with some pictures afterwards, but just because I like what they do and they seem very cool and interesting people to me. I think if they weren't famous at all and work at the same company as me or so, I'd also like to hang out with them just to find out what they're really like, if you know what I mean.

dom: I didn't expect him to be so short. also very sweet.
chris: surprisingly, I've talked to him the most. TALL. :D
tom: obvi around more, very nice guy!

Dom: I noticed on pictures already that he isn't tall... Everybody was is always talking about Matt, but when I see pictures I'm always like "c'mon, Dom isn't much taller... Is it just me or what?"
Chris: is he TALL, or does he just seem tall because Matt and Dom are short ;)

On the other hand, you'd be surprised to hear people say that he doesn't like to talk... If you hear him in interviews etc sometimes

ehm, they're all short, lol. Chris is taller, but not that much at all.. Dom & Matt look the same to me, they're both shorter than me. i'm 175 cm or 5'9'' (i think).
but honestly i expected Matt & Dom to be shorter than they are, but they're not THAAAT much shorter than me at all.

meh, while i was waiting for them i felt like an idiot, a little, but then after the meeting i thought i was crazy to think that. it's just so fucking nice to meet someone you admire and respect. and they seem to respect us too, which is WONDERFUL :D

i met them all at the signing tent reading festival 2002, dom was off his tits from the night/day before, chris was cool & matt very chatty, as he just signed my manson replica guitar.

then i met tom & chris after the eden gig last year, tom very nice & chris very polite, interested & very down to earth, a true gent!!!!:)

http://r0xikat.livejournal.com/45842.html - austin insanity involving certain bikes

What an ace story, just read it. So far, you win the award for best fan picture with Muse. That green shirt/sunglasses combo is..... You're so lucky. *Wishes she was an American fan* Also, upload the voice clip! ;)

But yeah, I'd love to meet them, probably never will though. I wouldn't go hysterical, I think the problem would be that I wouldn't actually know what to say, so I'd leave thinking to myself 'you idiot'. But you never know. And looking at some of these stories, there seems to be a distict pattern that happens which obviously shows whether Matt likes the fan or not. Maybe I'm reading into it too much.

I don't remember much in detail coz I was quite 'there' by the time my friends and I headed to another bar and Muse just happened to be in there lol! That was weird to say the least we just wanted another beer lol!
The worst thing was (well not really that bad but considering everyone else who was in that bar was part of the Muse crew or the opening act) I was wearing my Muse t-shirt that I only just brought at the concert earlier. No wonder the bouncer at the door looked at my strange when I handed him my I.D. lol!
My friends and I ended up chating with the opening act (The Checks) and Muse's tour manager. He brought us drinks too and put on their tab haha.
Talked to Matt, can't remember what of though lol! He was nice and kool about it. Got a photo with him. I didn't talk to Dom I don't think, but my friend did. Chris was quite drunk from what I remember...he was hugging one of the members from the checks a lot which we thought was funny. We stayed with them till like 5 in the mourning. It was a pretty kool night aye. lol!

At the gig I went to, I was going to hang out afterwards and try to meet them, but my friends wanted to leave. So I left around midnight, and then someone I knew told me they came out into the car park around midnight and I was like :NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I think I'd find it hard not to tease Matt about his height though  (because I'm the same height and by the time I meet him I'll probably be taller)

I was also hoping to maybe spot them during the two days they spent in Melbourne after the gig, but no.

In Greece backstage everyone just couldn't stop laughing. The funniest thing though was that Matt was in the silliest mood, he kept doing weird stuff like funny dances, weird faces and incredibly bad jokes, look at us and wait for us to laugh then we giggled and he laughed like an idiot.

Well, I almost met them once.

It was after the gig in Oslo Spectrum, Norway in October. Our hotel was located right behind the arena, and we went back there after the gig. Then we saw a big bus on our way (their bus) and a few people outside. We stood there for like 15 minutes or so, and wondered whether Muse was inside the bus or not. We guessed not, and went back to the hotel. 30 minutes later, we went to 7eleven to buy some snacks, and then all the people was gone, except a policeman. We asked about Muse, and he said "Well. If you were here 10 minutes ago, you would have met them." We asked if we PLEASE could just meet them for a second or two, but he said no. Unfortunlately. Stupid us. I can't belive we left the place 20 minutes before they came out of the bus!!!

Hey you I've just heard about a couple of guys, around 15 actually, who waited for Muse after their gig here in Sweden. But Muse just left in their cars, didn't give a shit about the fans waiting. Kinda' low.. Hope they were really busy or didn't notice them.

And OFCOURSE I realize they must be exhausted after a gig, but it seems like they've been very patient and nice to all the other fans who've waited for them..

I must say that Matt is a really nice guy, I have met him several times professionally and he is always pleasantness personified. He was generous with comp tickets for Wembley
and I went to the gig with my daughter and am now a complete Muse convert - live they are as good as anyone I have ever seen (Stones, Springsteen, Floyd included) - but they have a way to go to be permanently included in the Rock Pantheon.

Let's do it! When Muse go for a tour for their new album, I think I'll go to as many gigs as possible, and Denmark is just like you said 3-400 km. away :)

Well so how do we contact each other :P well and is it in all of scandinavia? or? :P

hey guys well my experience wasnt really a meet and greet thing well after their performance in melbourne last year, me nd my friend walked around the whole arenawe got to this carpark where the security told us to hurry up and leave but me and my friend waited until the guards left that area ( we werent in the carpark we were on a ramp that was pretty damn close tho ), the reason we decided to hang round was because there were two fance 4wd parked right in fron tof the door.

so anyway we waited i was giving up coz all these other people were coming out of the doors and it was lyk midnight and then suddenly matt dom and chris came out and me , my frend and 5 other randoms started cheering for them and they waved and signalled a thank you and they stayed their for lyk 10 mins and they were just standing outside the cars and dom was giving us all this cheeky grin,, it was sooo cute and yeeh they finally got into the car and drove off and people were chasing after the car to get a gud look at them!!!! it was awesum altho that wasnt much it was still very special to me

my aim next year is to try and actually get down to that car park im not goin to stop until i meet them i wish they had meet and greet passes down here in melbourne!!!

so yeah thats my story

Probably not.. That's just expecting too much getting them back to Australia. :p.

I remember trying to find ways to get down to that carpark. I think I had found a plausible way to get in, I should of checked to see if it would work. But by not doing that, me and my friend were the only people who saw them enter Rod Laver, so we're happy with that. :D

^^^^ that sig is cute!

I met them in a backstage bathroom

Matt was attentive and beautiful
Dom was distracted and writing on the wall
Chris was shy and cute

The following year I met Dom. He was talkative and nice.
Oh mann!! I'd love to meet them, even though I'd probably faint. Matt is gorgeous and so gifted!! In some twisted reality of mine, Matt and I are soulmates.. haha

My plan is to meet them after the next gig I go too. Anyone wanna join me waiting for them? :D

Yeah me :P I'm danish :P Only 3-400 km. away you know.. And I really wanna meet those guys...

Me too, me too! :D

I was one of those who waited. We talked to some guy from their crew who said that they had already left.

Oh wow, all of you are so lucky. I haven't gotten the chance to go see them live yet, much less meet them. I'm definitely going to have to try to next time they come here, though. I'm pretty sure I'll end up having no idea what to say to them. I'll probably be too determined not to let out a fangirly squeel or an "OMG I LOVE YOU!" to say anything. :p

Being from Teignmouth, I used to bump into the chaps from MUSE most days in town.

My mum still sees Chris from time to time in the CO-OP in town with his kids!!

I first saw/heard of MUSE in 1993 when they played a gig in Teignmouth at the Meadow Centre, it was an XMAS gig and there were about 5 bands playing, mostly kids but it was great fun all the same.

I have an original flyer that I think MUST be the only one in existance but when I posted a pic of it, I got shot down in flames and told it was a fake one that I made myself....it isn't !!

It has Fixed Penalty and Gothic Plague on the same bill and this caused some concerns, please read the book by Ben Myers and it says on there that in the early days BOTH bands would play supporting one another!!

Anyway, I used to kick about with Matt's 2 cousins in Teignmouth for years and was also quite chummy with Paul (Matt's older brother), so asking them for autographs would be like a little sad nowadays.

I am just glad that they have done so well in life and have started something that I am proud to pass onto my kids in years to come...

Thanks

First time I met Matt I said: I want to ask you two things, sorry if the second one seem weird. one, may I have your aughtograph? (he nodded) two, may I -please- let my fingers go through your hair!? (laughed, let my fingers go through his hair) Then we talked for like an hour or so... Then I kissed him on the cheeks three times, (Dutch formal way of saying goodbye to someone - he didnt know that and so I looked like a fool)

...mind you, I was only 15 at the time...

Second time I met him I said: I want to ask you two things, sorry if the second one seem weird. one, may I have your aughtograph? (he nodded) two, may I -please- let my fingers go through your hair! (looked at me with a frown and said: 'I met you before', smiled and let my fingers go through his hair) Then we talked for like 2 hours or so... Then we kissed each other on the cheeks three times (now he learned too that that is the Dutch formal way of saying goodbye to someone)

...mind you, I was only 16 at the time...

Third time I met him I said: I have already two aughtographs of you, so instead, could you draw someting funny on my t-shirt? Just the first thing that comes up in your mind (he drew a bunny...and another aughtograph) I touched his hair again, telling him that he should not cut it too short, haha...

...ok, ok I was 18 at that time...

Sowwww..... that was a long time ago...Good old days...

Dom admired my t-shirt on which I wrote some lyrics from Bliss, and he thought it was beautifully written, sweet guy...

Never spoken to Chris, he was drunk and throwing beer and water at people, or he was nowhere to be found. Wel, actually I was busy talking to Matt, so frankly I didnt bother, really... oh well...

O, he was very kind and didnt freak out, eventhough I asked/said a lot of bullshit!

This was in the time that muse still allowed people backstage after a show. (2001) I was enjoying a wonderfull concert, really it was my first ever rock concert, I was thinking: 'o, I'll never miss a muse concert ever from now on, this is LIFE!' Something like that anyway.
And then, at the end, the stage manager handed out 'aftershow tickets' though I had no idea it was for backstage entrance lol, so I just walked away and had a beer! haha... but then me and my friend saw people walking over the stage to 'backstage' and we looked at each other, at the ticket and we RUN back to the stage and said: hi...er...we have this, showed the ticket and the woman said, o, follow me. (very mellow, and we were like IIIIIIIIIIIIAAAAIIIIAAAIIIIAA!!!)

So yeah.

Second time I knew about the tickets, so when I got one, I stayed near the stage, freaking out again of course!

third time, was when I waited outside the building with a handful of fans, and they came out around 4 in the morning (!), quick chat before they went into the bus.

If anyone read this, who was there also, Paradiso 2001, Heineken Music Hall 2001 or Ahoy 2003, please reply, maybe you remember things I dont!

How does one even go about meeting them in the first place?

You should probably look for 'em at the nearest bar, or at the bar at their hotel.
Chances are, you'll see Matt sneering at you if you approach him, but then again, buy 'im a drink and he'll be happy.

Dom seems to be the most outgoing guy, so he probably won't mind.

Nice theory, but:
1- how do you know they're in town when they're not on tour,
2- how do you know in which hotel they're staying,
3- ...

;)

It's not like these guys move around in a city and just some km's around it like we would do, but they could be one day in London, then take a break and go home like a 1000km's away, go back to England somewhere, and so on :)

Actually, it might be in your advantage that you live in the states. My guess is that they play at smaller venues there (right, im not sure?) then it might be easier to see them afer a gig then it is here in Europe, where they play in stadions nowadays, with all the strict security. But this is just a speculation...

They played in a small venue when they came in 2004, and they were an opening act in 2006, but they're gaining popularity over here, so they MIGHT be headlining their next tour. *Crosses fingers* I still want to try to hang around after the show to see if I can meet them. funny, those mixed feelings about muse gaining populairity, on the one hand I want them to take over the world and be the most successful band ever, but on the other hand I dont, because I prefer seeing them at smaler venues (not particularly so that I can meet them, but rather for the atmosphere during the concert)...

Like when I tried to buy the DVD last week, I went to two different stores and.all.muse.dvds.were.sold.out. I thought: YAAY!!!! MUSE IS SOLD OUT, GOOD FOR THEM, but at the same time: my god. now I!! dont have a dvd. Grrrr...

RequiemForADream412

Well, they feel the some way, don't they? I've seen a few interviews where they said they love playing stadiums and all that, but they wouldn't mind going back to the smaller venues sometimes. I'd like that, too, occasionally. But I do want them to be successful. I don't want them playing at small venues forever. :erm: But they're kind of a few steps back over in America, so we're experiencing a bit of both. I think it'll be a bit longer before they're as big here as they are in England, but, like I said before, I have a feeling they'll be big enough to headline next time they come. Maybe.

At least you can find DVD's. Since they're not too popular over here, I have trouble finding Muse stuff, other than online. I've yet to find their other DVD's (I'm going hunting in a few weeks, though. I have a store in mind that MIGHT have them), and I have no idea where to find any posters/shirts/whatnot. :erm:

Exactly. The way I see it, I don't even have to bother looking for him at their hotel. Chances are, I probably might bump into him while I'm shopping for toys, when he's looking for toys to bring home to his kids.

Nearly met them too! It was their show last August in Boston. Waited outside by their buses forever, chatted with security, saw Tom Kirk going in and out of the elevator on a bicycle.. and he stopped to say hi to us. Said the guys were gonna come out in awhile but then security ushered them out the other door and they went past us in their bus. Bummer but talking/seeing Kirk-y was pretty hilarious. Better luck next time I s'pose.

Morgan got me absolutely wasted and we had a party in his Hilton hotel room and Dom Anderson and hotel management told us off for breaking bottles and being generally loud. It was a great night.

See, that's why I would never spend hours waiting for them.
As if Kirk didn't know they wouldn't come to say hi at all, come on!

I wouldn't do more effort to meet them as they would do to meet me. Which means: no effort at all :)

(sorry if those last two lines aren't proper English... I couldn't turn it right!)

It wasnt actually inside but was just outside the loading bay area. It was also guarded by a very aggressive security guy who shouted at anyone who was within a 20 mile radius of it. Nasty man!

Yeah ever since I heard about it I've been googling about it (more out of curiosity... I want to know why the built a secret tunnel into the royal albert hall. I find secret tunnels and stuff kind of intruiging for some reason.) and I found some womans blog talking about how she went on a tour and asked about the secret exit and the tourguide said that there is one, but everyone uses the stage door.

Of course, she would say that, it being a secret and all.

Yeah, I'm just thinking it's worth a try really. I'm not holding my breath or anything.

I wasnt that worried about it actually. The main reason I was hanging around was because I'd had a few drinks and wasnt ready for bed yet! I had a great time waiting and we met the gorgeous Carl Barat while we were there!

Besides, last time I saw Kasabian we ended up having a drink in the pub with one of them afterwards :)

How do you get to the back of the venue at a festival in the first place
I think I'll check that out at the next (big) festival I go to, if only out of curiosity :D

Reminds me of a programme on Belgian television in which two guys and a cameraman always sneak in at afterparty's, get backstage at festivals, concerts, awards shows,... with fake passes, fake wristbands, by climbing over walls, getting past security/police, disguise themselves as whoever would get in, etc and then party and drink champagne with the stars for free... Those guys might teach us something :)

try and befriend the most minor band at the festival that no one's heard of (possibly offer them sexual favours or at least hint at it .) They'll probably just be happy that someone there cares about them (or wants them sexually) and invite you backstage. then, once you're there ditch them and go and find someone better.

I've never been in the backstage area at a festival but I snuck into the VIP area at Reading one year on both the Friday and Saturday. I had 2 friends who had wristbands. One of these friends also had a pass for the Friday which was so obviously fake it wasnt even funny. Anyway, we thought we'd try. My 2 friends went in with their wristbands, I was behind them with my pass. The security guy looked at me looked at my pass, raised his eyebrows but let me in anyway! On the Saturday, one of my friends managed to loosen his wristband and could get it on and off. So he went in with my other friend, then she came out with his wristband and I put it on. By the Sunday my friend had been caught with his loose wristband and spent most of the day trying to figure out a way to get himself into the VIP area, where he was supposed to be, so I had no chance really!

I only did it for devilment really, because I could! Besides, it was nice to have clean toilets and no queue for the bar

Wel, actually I was busy talking to Matt, so frankly I didnt bother, really... oh well...

One way of getting remembered!

First time I met them I was 14. After the concert I stood outside their tour bus for 3 hours in the freezing cold with no jacket. Who can complain though? I got everything signed, a million pics, and "Cheers" about a million times.

The second time, on March 15, 2010 in Nashville, TN was far more interesting. :chuckle:

I love telling this story! I WARN YOU...IT"S LONG! And this is a email I copy and pasted to my friend two days after the concert while it was fresh in my head. Sorry for the mistakes because I didn't proof read it and there maybe random replys cause we were chatting back and forth.

'm going to shorten this a lot. I got there around 6 am and got second row center. After the amazing concert, I stayed close to the stage to look for guitar pics, a set list, anything. The security ppl started pushing me away. As i was pushed away, some guy popped out no where and handed me this wierd orange sticker that said "Muse the resistance: hospitality" and muttered after party. I didn't even get to see this guys face. I asked some ppl and they said it was a bumper sticker. I went to guest services and they told me where to go. I went back to the floor and some guy ushed me back stage. As i looked behind me i realized they blocked my sisters from following me and the guy grabbed me and wouldn't let me turn around. We went down some sketch hallway and he shoved me into this dark room. There was about 20 ppl in there and everyone had an accent. I didn't have my cell and neither did my sister who i was taking home. I borrowed someone cell and had a panic attack. Shaking, crying, hypervenilating. THe whole deal. Julie, my sis, managed to calm me down over the phone and said to wait 15 minutes and see if anything exciting happened and calm down.

After chatting with a girl from manchester (everyone was wayy older than me) and a millionare, I found out that the millionare had two extrs backstage passes. She told me i could have them. I ran out of the room and told the security ppl my problem. They called me a "frantic white female" over the phone. Lol. THey eventually let my sister come. Fast forward 45 minutes. My sister is drunk and matt and chris just walked into the room. Lisa, my sis, fortunatly didn't make a noise. I stood awkwardly one foot behind matt as he talked to other ppl. Eventually (like 20 minutes), he was talking to a 20 year old fan and he was standing right next to me. I randomly jumped in the convo. They were talking about the twilight soundtrack. He was like "i've written a song for the third movie, eclipse, but im unsure whether or not to put it on the soundtrack. Have you heard of it?" I was like "Yeah!!" And he goes "DO you like it? I know it is sort of like a teeny romance thing." and i acted like i wasn't obsessed at all. I replied "Ehh. It's okay." "So you don't like it." He says. I replied "No, no. I like it". and he said "No worries. You don't have to convince me. Do you think I should put it into the soundtrack?" I said "Ofcourse! It would make you huge in America!". He said "Haha. Alright. Well, if i do put it in, remember it was because of you."

Then I was like "Well, what is the band you listen to the most now?" He replys "the odd thing it, I don't really listen to music b//c the song gets stuck in my head and it plays over and over and over and I can't get it out. It's really annoying really. I don't want it to affect my music" And i said "I'm sure you realized your annoyance turned into a gift." He was like "Yeah, i have listened to this one girl. She's really populur in the UK. Its called Bats for Lashes. You know, bats (he makes a swinging motion) for lashes (points at his eyes and flutters them). Dom really is the one who listens to other people. Right now he is really into Phoenix". "Ive heard of them", i said. "Also another band called....(i don't remember the name though). It's dance. Like Daft punk." I replied "Ohh...okay..daft punk." Then I asked for a picture and he said of course. That's how i got the pic with my sister.

Then I got one by myself, of course. Haha. When he put his arm around me he said "You have a lovely accent." I was so flattered that all I could muster was "Hahah. (nervous laughter). You too!" Then we took the pic. He mentioned that his accent was like "the hillbilly of england". We talked about guitars. He bought 5 that day form a store on broadway in nashville and played a 250,000 guitar "i didn't buy it ofcourse" he joked. He talked to me how his box thing at the end of his guitar worked. "It called choas (i think). it works on an x, y axis and it is hooked up to lots of things such as synthesizers, basses, ect. So when I move my pic around, it will play according to where i touch." I was like, my friend really wants your guitar. It's awesome. He replied "Well, you can actually buy them now. My friend, Hugh Manson from australia makes them. He hand carves them, so he sits there for many hours working his ass off molding each curve." He talked about his childhood how he took one lesson and he whispered "I didn't like it very much."

Sorry if this makes no sense, im not proof reading this. By the way, when he talks to you, he gets real close and does not break eye contact at all. It is really intimidatiing. He loves making hand motions as well. Back to the story. I say. "I'm emily by the way." "Pleasure he says as he shakes my hand. His hand shakes are so weak, it's almost pathetic. Haha. I asked him "So do people in england impersonate american accents?" "Sorry?" he said and steps so my mouth is one inch away from his ear. "Do..umm...british people....um...try to fake an...um...american accent?" I stuttered. "Well, if they do, he replied, they do your accent, because it is the true american accent. it is quite lovely, really." i almost died. hahaha. I then replied "Oh, americans always try to do a fake british accent." I then switch to my terrible british accent and act like i have tea in my hand and stand up really straight. "Ello therrreee. I'm herrreee with some tea and krumpettts!", i joked. He immediatly, bent over like i punched him in the stomach and laughed that trademark laugh of his so hard. I was proud I made him actually crack up and not just chuckle. If you don't know what his laugh sounds like go here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PP4xZXsV6m0

My sister then introduced herself. "Im lisa. Todays my birthday!". "Happy birthday! How old are you?" he asks. "Old. " she replied. "You surely can't be older than me, though" he said. She asked "how old are you?". "Old" he replies. "Okay, i turned 29" she said. He leans in and whispers "Im 31. See, you aren't the oldest one in the room!". Lol. Um...i got a hug from him, but i had to ask for it. He was constantly getting interupted by other ppl, but he would always come back to me. His manager asked him 3 times to leave. We would say goodbye, but he would always get stopped for a final pic or something and then he would come back to me. Haha. For instance, some irish and english fans interupted us and the guy was like "I'm sorry, but can i have a pic." After a minute they started chanting some irish song i never heard of. Then when they leave "he talked to them like 2 minutes tops" he nonchalantly leans againt the wall next to me and mutters "Sorry about that. Just some crazy english fans". There is a pic of him talking to him in my album, just look at the captions.

lisa quietly ate doritos while i was chatting it up with him. I know! I was soo nervous at first, but after a while I got used to it. Julie and her friend brooke left after the concert cause they had a huge test in the morning. i doubt i could even let them in anyways. I know my luck is crazy random! The girl i talked to that was from manchester went to 33 muse concerts and that would be the 3rd time meeting them. I was thinking, I met them everytime I go to their concert. I was too afraid to talk to chris...he's big and was engrossed in his little circle of guy friends. Matt on the other hand, is only an inch taller than me and really skinny. Haha. When I hugged him i was like...omg...he needs a cookie. he was all bone! Haha. Umm. What else? Oh yeah I was like "WHere's chris and dom? (chris left by then)" he said "You saw chris didnt you? He was in the room not too long ago. maybe 30 minutes ago smoking the pipe" "Oh yeah, I replied". "And the last time i saw dom he was getting a back MAssage (pronounce the ma like in the word matress). You know, a back MAssage. Some one was rubbin down his back." "He deserves it. Don't get me wrong though. I'm perfectlyh fine with this (points at him)".

I'm running out of things to say. Oh, he was drinking just a single glass of red wine. Everyone offered him more, but he said he was fine. I found out he drinks a glass of red wine after ever concert b/c it's the only drink he can drink that doesn't get his throat dry. Trust me, at the time i thought he was still engaged to that model, so i thought he was just being friendly. Then yesterday, I found he was single again. Maybe he was flirting just a little? Who knows. Lol. I so would've slipped him my number before he left if i known. I would've said something like "In case you want to hear my "lovely" accent again". Haha. Yeah, he's like 14 years older than me. So what? He's hot (minus his teeth) and talented and has an accent! He offered me a drink and then he was like wait "nevermind, you're far too young. Hha."

The pipe smelled soo good! The funny thing is that we were shoved in the corner by the food the whole night. Once we got talking, I didn't leave that spot the whole night. He said if he didn't do muse, he would proabbaly be a music producer...or a lawyer. "Just kidding he said. I'd never be a lawyer.". Ummm...some 30 somehting stood and stared at us for 20 minutes to wait for us to stop talking to get their shirtss signed. They owed me big time on this one: i actually had to stop him and say "You know what. I'm sorry, but these girls have been standing here for a while trying to get you to sign stuff." "He was like "Ohhh. yeah. ofcourse." Remember there was another girl there, but i honestly think he liked me better b/c the other girl acted more like a crazed fan and less mature than i did. I think i played the whole "I know who you are, but im going to pretend you're normal" act well.

Holy flip, that sounds like an amazing dream!:eek: :awesome:... That's so amazing, I could almost not believe what I was reading. Matt seems a little into to you, haha! Wow...

I know! The second the door closed behind me at the venue (no one was around) I screamed and did a victory dance and ran around in circles because I had to retain the inner fan girl for a few hours. People tell me he sounded into me...who knows!...but i'm just glad i was able to be in his presence!

Yeah.. You're extremely lucky!

I don't know how big chance I have of meeting them in Norway. They're playing in Bergen in July, and it's a big outdoor arena with 20000 people. I have a golden circle ticket, so I'm very close to the stage. Doesn't matter if you meet early? meh.

After the gig in October I was so dehydrated and about to faint, so we went back to our hotel which was like 30 seconds away from where they played the gig... After staring at the tour bus. Wonder if people actually met them ( October 2009 :( )

Yeah. The girl was all like "Uhh. I didn't discover you until recently. Then I played guitar hero and heard that one song. I play it all the timmmee." And then when she heard him say he was 31 she said "WHOA. You are like ..9..10..11 years older than meeeee...." I was thinking "way to make him feel bad." and I proceeded to mumble "age is just a number." Oh, how badly I wanted to tell her off and make her go away, but I'm sure she felt the same for me. :chuckle:

Haha, dumb girl. It was odd though, I expected to have to do a bit of competing for attention but it was just me, my friend and Matt for a good hour, he came over to us after he got through the initial crowd of people. He was drinking wine when I met him too, then when he finished he just put the empty glass on a chair  I didn't really find his eye contact intimidating, really intense but not intimidating. He does lean in soo close :) I thought I would feel nervous meeting him but didn't at all! I hugged him right off the bat :D

Hmm. I'd say your best bet is to find their tour bus and sit there for a while after the show. Then play the waiting game. It really comes down to how badly you want to meet them unless you happen to run into them randomly! That is a huge venue! There were about 8000 at the last gig I was at, and before that only 1000! You are lucky to get a golden circle ticket!

Usually I don't care for alcohol smelling breath, but I sure didn't mind it coming from Matt! We are so fortunate to experience him first hand! Hah. You must be more outgoing than I.

These days its not gonna be so easy to meet the guys, they are a huge band now and sadly some people freak out too much or get silly when meeting famous people......imagine how that feels?
Back in 99 i met them at Lemon Grove,Exeter and got my Muscle Museum EP signed, all 3 very nice,Dom stood with parents afterwards looking like an embarassed kid at a party!
In the early 2000's they let me in free for thier gigs at Bristol Fleece, where i saw them Soundcheck,Torquay Riviera Centre, where i broke my foot and the Lemmy again when we had a fair chat with Matt about space and other dimensions!!!
Went to thier aftershow party at Leicester Di Montfort with a friend and whole experience got very messy. Had a lot of vodka and orange and ended up in a toliet for half an hour talking to myself-my friend Matt and Tom Kirk where knocking on the door talking to me and laughing!
This was the start of people getting wierd-before now the lads seemed to be happy to talk to anyone, were not blanketed by security-(Matt even sat outside one Exeter gig in his black Merc and i sat in his door well having a chat) But at this gig one fan was just staring at Matt because he had taken his shirt off and taking pics of him, this was not cool at an aftershow and made him uncomfortable. There was a back room to this party so he ended up going in there and i sat on a sofa with him talking into the small hours about everything under the sun. He expressed how wierd it was when someone is into you and they dont even know you.
Anyways Matt handed around Mr Kiplings Almond Slices, which im pretty sure to this day wernt what they said on the pack and my night ended with a cute little hug and kiss on cheek.
So these days (at 30!) ill just have to be content with a seat half a mile away from the stage and a rocking live set and live with the memories. Whether they remember me is debateable, imagine all the people they have met?,but i'll remember them and the good ol days!

I thought the exact same thing about the alcohol-y-ness, like... it was HOTT. lol. Same with Dom + cigarette, for some reason I didn't have much to say to Dom though. And we are lucky! It was like a dream, so unbelievable! I wish I'd gotten more pictures though, I have one of us side by side but I didn't get one kissing him :chuckle: he has a lovely stubbly face.

Thanks:) Yeah.. I guess.. We'll see! I really do want to meet them very badly. If I in my wildest dreams did, I hope I would manage to say something and not behave like a crazy fan girl, because I hate when other people do that (even if it's difficult)... Yeah, that's a lot. The one in Oslo was only 8000-9000! MUSE has become really popular in Norway lately. Since 2007.. Coldplay played that same huge venue last year .

I'm just annoyed I was born too late, hehe. 'Cause they've been to Norway countless of times, and in their early days they played at small clubs etc.

Why does everyone think my story is sad? Its ok,i feel a bit old for partying these days anywho!!
I guess my advice would be find a band while they are small and enjoy the time with them then, chances are it'll never be the same again, getting near bands at stadium gigs is nearly impossible. I met and chatted to a few bands in thier infancy at Exeter Cavern- Coldplay,The Music and of course Muse-i guess that was the early days as there were only 40 odd people there that night and Muscle Museum broke my heart......still does to this day. :)

I don't think it was sad at all, but the part about the creepy fan taking pictures of Matt with his shirt off is unfortunate. :(

I guess it's sad because things aren't going to be like that again. Not only are they less accessible but they can't be as at ease with fans (as a whole). It seems like a lot more fame and a lot less fun to me.

I think it's the idea that you've had great times with them and you'll always remember them vividly, but they might not remember you. I don't know, just something sad about that. Especially now that they're so much bigger, there's a bigger distance between the band and you as a fan. Whereas before, you could hang out with them casually. It's just sad to think about. Maybe they do remember you. I know a few bands/artists I've been a fan of long enough from when they were kind of famous to now hugely famous where they remember who I am. It probably helps that I'm usually front row or barricade for gigs . They may not get my name all the time ( I get Jennifer a lot  Or "I remember you from our CA shows"), but the fact that they recognize/remember me at all is plenty. Not that I need or expect anyone famous to remember who I am, but when they do it is sweet and appreciative. And they must have better memory than I do because I suck at remembering people! :D

Guess thats why a lot of famous people say its not great being recognised. After all people dont really know who 'you' are just your stage/public persona.
Its hard for us mere mortals to feel sorry for the Brads and Angelinas of the world with all thier millions but it aint a life id like to have. Media intrusion is overwhelming these days,in that sense Muse escape this,i think to the general public thet still arent that well known-i guess its just the passion in thier music and Matts voice brings passionate fans........sadly not all of these know how to talk to him when they meet him like he is a real person. Imagine someone you didnt know was stood in front of you squealing at you, must be very surreal-id scarper to the tourbus too!!

To be quite honest i wouldnt even know how to access a band at a stadium gig, like people are saying wait outside i guess but i dont fancy that with hundreds of other people. In the early days they came into the bar at the venue afterwards........imagine that now, they'd probably lose a limb!!

I think i played the whole "I know who you are, but im going to pretend you're normal" act well.

wow you're lucky :p but it started off a bit randomly....i wonder what that was all about...

has anyone had any luck, or good stories about meeting them at the airport? i know it's stalkerish but i've seen photos and stuff where people have gotten to meet them when they got off their flight.

To be quite honest i wouldnt even know how to access a band at a stadium gig, like people are saying wait outside i guess but i dont fancy that with hundreds of other people. In the early days they came into the bar at the venue afterwards........imagine that now, they'd probably lose a limb!!

By waiting outside the venue, you'd probably get a greeting and something signed, and a chat at best :( Aftershow seems like it is starting to become a similar thing because it's so clogged up with people who are there because they won passes and stuff like that. Makes me sad hearing about the 'old days', reminds me of how much I've missed out on.

Lol, when he said he was working on something for Twilight/Eclipse, he asked if I'd heard of it and I was like "UGHHHHH". "Do you not like it?" ".... no."

Are after parties regular occurrences? I'll be going to a few Aussie gigs when they finally make it down here and I'll be hoping to catch them at some point :S Post-gig bar hopping? (I'll just be 18 ) Airport? Wait outside post gig? What's the best (but possibly least creepy) method?

I could also try outside the ABC in Sydney if they do a triple J interview... :shifty:
Who else has met them in Australia, and how??

This is quite interesting to hear in view of the discussion about this. It makes me wonder whether he was really in two minds, and maybe rather confused on the worth of the movies, or maybe he was just trying to impress you, and not sure whether it would or not.:chuckle:

I think it's sad too. Not for you, but overall. He's probably a bit more used to the attention now but the whole thing is a kind of a double edged sword isn't it? People he doesn't know are in to him and it feels normal to them but, understandably, not to him. Some people do behave really inappropriately though. But it's nice that he's still happy to chat to other fans.

Wel, actually I was busy talking to Matt, so frankly I didnt bother, really... oh well...

 That's too awesome! that's really cool that he remembered you and he let you do that :chuckle: I wish I was Dutch!

that's pretty awesome :D

What song was that? You could be the reason we're getting Neutron Star Collision :awesome:

It is the song he was referring to. Haha. I like to believe I was, no matter how small, but probably super super super small, contributing factor for the decision. :awesome:

Emily, reading this somehow got me so happy

You are SO LUCKY! The whole pulling away into a dark room would SERIOUSLY freak me out though. But at least If that happens to me, I'll know not to panic and rush out of the room until after waiting 20 or so minutes

Hah. Glad I taught you a life lesson, per se. ;)

This is quite interesting to hear in view of the discussion about this. It makes me wonder whether he was really in two minds, and maybe rather confused on the worth of the movies, or maybe he was just trying to impress you, and not sure whether it would or not.:chuckle:

If we could only see the inner workings of Matt's brain for a day.

Sure she is, almost everyone I meet loves Bat For Lashes :D And you are so ridiculously lucky haha.

I'd love to meet them one day, highly doubt it's ever gonna happen now though. They've gotten so popular :(

xxEmilyxx, you are one lucky duck! So you got invited back while lingering near the stage after the show, right?

As for the suggestion to wait by buses...At a lot of large venues you can't even get near the buses. :( I tried this method in Atlanta to no avail.

The band you didn't know was probably Justice. Justice is pretty much a French version of Daft Punk. Plus, Dom said that one of their songs was his "Top song of the decade" in an interveiw.

Hey I was wondering if any of you guys who have been lucky enough to meet the guys either before or after a show had any advice on how to make this possible? :p

The only time I've ever met a band before or after a show (it was both... I met the guitarist before and the rest after, haha!) it was at a VERY small venue. Less than 2000 people.

But I'm seeing them in October (for the first time!) at a huge arena that can hold nearly 20,000 people! So I'm sure it will be so much more difficult. Is hanging around near the stage door before/after the best bet? :)
