TIRO on Kerrang is when I started to get into Muse. But I did hear of them before, like New Born & Bliss. But really didnt like them nor took interest, my Dads mate went 'Muse, Muse! What a silly band name'

I kinda regret of ignoring New Born & Bliss at the time!

Sunburn on the radio back in 00
I thought it was Radiohead at first so i listened closely and loved it only to find out it was some band called Muse, honestly!
I ignored them for a bit sticking my nose up at the Radiohead wannabes until i heard Plug In Baby which blew my mind. I bought Showbiz and OOS which also both blew my mind. I never looked back and now Radiohead can go fuck themselves

feeling good on some channel 4 studio performance (though i had heard of muse before). i was like "oooo he's singing through a megaphone, hes got red flowers all up his mic stand, and they've named themselves muse....." and i was in love.

other moments which increased my fandom x100000....
when they played the brit awards in 2004 (i think), their performance just stood out so much from the whole rest of the show it really showed they were something else.
and the first time i watched the hullaballo performance, i was just blown away.

The first songs I heard were Plug in Baby and New Born years ago. They did not get me hooked, I quite liked both songs but I didn't really pay any attention to Muse until I heard Hysteria and Time is Running Out when I was searching for albums to buy my boyfriend for his birthday, all of his Muse got lost after several moves and lending them to people.... instead of buying him all the albums I bought them all for me :D

Being bombarded by Bliss, Newborn and Plug In Baby on MTV2 at my nan's.

I'd heard the riff to Newborn and loved it but I didn't know it was Newborn. Then it came on starting with the piano and for once, I listened through rather than turning over and WHAM! Riffage and Muse lovage.

Downloaded Newborn and Bliss and I was hooked.

I think bought OOS when it came out, no idea why I did at the time, didn't know who they were or had I even had any knowledge of hearing them, I think I just liked the cover
Then found Showbiz in a sale and instantly recognised Muscle Museum, still have no idea where I heard it in the first place though.

I'd made a new friend at school, and she went on and ON about this guy called Matt Bellamy. I was like 'Who the fuck IS he?'
She asked our tutor to put Origin of Symmetry on for us. (Only class with a stereo :D ) And he did. My mate skipped New Born, and we listened to Bliss.

I loved it, she bought me the album about a week later, and I have been a fan ever since. Sadly enough, my school diary was COVERED in pictures of Dom, and all that.

If it hadn't been for my friend, AND the fact our tutor room was the music room, then I may never have been a fan...

i think this thread is testimony to how far muse have come..

i first heard a muse song when i was still buying shitty pop compilations...id recently got into Manic Street Preachers after being round a friends house and sitting in his brothers room, his walls were plastered in posters of JDB and the band...and he had written on his walls and chest of drawers in a Red Marker a few lyrics...and i thought wow this guy is really passionate about this band and their music..and by reading a few of the lyrics on his walls i realised that unlike the trashy pop id been listening to for so long, this band had its messages, its opinions and they were using its music to put them across..and so i bought a couple of Manic Street Preachers album..got into them and started to listen to a fair bit of indie...

another friend lent me a indie compilation - cant quite remember what it was and it might have been an NME or Q freebie but Muscle Museum was on it...and the first time i heard it i thought - wow this is something else!

My friends asked me if id like to come to the V festival with them - after they heard i liked that muse track, so on the basis that i enjoyed a single muse song i forked out for a day ticket to the sunday in Weston Park in V2001 just to see Muse...then OoS came out not long before it from what i remember, and so i bought that on the day it was released and loved it...

So yeah, Muscle Museum was my first Muse song, and i dont think ive ever looked back since..because who in their right mind listens to crappy Pop compilations?!

Newborn was the first I heard.. because I was too skint to buy a CD I then went to the library and borrowed the only Muse album there, Showbiz, and really loved it.

Sunburn was my first...basically since it's the first track on Showbiz. Bought Showbiz in 2000 on a whim because Amazon.com recommended it as a "other listeners who bought this album also bought this album"....yes, yes the similar artist was probably Radiohead.....go figure... Loved Showbiz but kind of lost track of Muse when OOS wasn't released in the States.....fast forward to '03 and Hysteria getting a lot of airplay and I got back into Muse.....seeing them live pretty much catapulted them into one of my favs....

Sunburn in 2000, heard it randomly on the radio although didn't catch who it was by, then saw the video on the tele. I thought they were cool at the time, I wasn't a massive fan but appreciated them I guess. I later found a showbiz cassette in a second hand shop for a couple of quid which I got as I had fuck all money at the time for a cd  That increased my interest.

I didn't become a big fan until Oos came out, when I heard New Born.

I never liked linkin park ;)

first song I heard was plug in baby, too ... but for some strange reason I didn't really notice that. I liked it, but it didn't quite catch me at that time.
So it was another 5 years 'til a friend of mine gave me "time is running out". and that got me ;)

"Hysteria." And I stared slackjawed at the television for the full four or five minutes, absolutely stunned, and having a bit of a difficult time comprehending how a band could write music THAT good, and play their instruments THAT well.

Trip to friends in England last year. I thought we had bought my daughters boyfriend's demo disc to listen to, but my daughter announced it was her boyfriends fave band Muse instead. So first song heard was Apocalypse Please very loud while standing in friends kitchen. ( Both of us in our late 40's) After only several seconds I said "Oh Bloody Hell!" My friend said "Good Grief!" I said "That is just totally erotic music" My friend said, breathlessly, "Yes!" And both of us leaned for support against kitchen worktop......... now cannot wait to see them for first time in Dublin!!!!!!!!!

My sister came back home one day (in 1999 or 2000 I guess) saying her bf (of the time) gave her a cd from a great band. It was Showbiz. So I guess the first song I heard was Sunburn, as it's track # 1 of the album.

Then I just listen to the singles on the radio, but just liked them without being "a fan", especially that my sister saw them at solidays and had been appalled by their show.
It's when I heard Absolution that I listened more carefully to their 3 first albums and thought "OMG how can I have missed that ?!"
I looked for gig dates on the internet, found the board and voilą !

Ashamed to say adverts and tv programmes where they played Hysteria (mainly brainiac history abuse when they blew up the caravans). It was love from the first second cept i had no idea who or what it was until my friend got an ipod (last year?) and she was showing it off and it came on. My reaction was something like 'SEND ME THAT SONG' I bought all of their albums and within months i was an obsesee :)

surprisingly muse is the only live band ive seen that has blown my socks off even though I've seen other favourites. It's a sign! :D I found sigur ros that way too

First Muse song...? Erm, I think I heard Unintended, but didn't know who had done the song. But then it was New Born. Someone brought it in to pay during an English classm and managed to piss the teacher off. That was my story! *ahem* I know, VERY unexciting...

Can't remember the first song, but my first Muse experience was live with the Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Foo Fighters in Minneapolis. Blew my mind completely. butterflies and hurricanes from some muse concert that was shown at insanely weird hours in the morning on mtv.
if i didnt switch on the television i would have probably continued being oblivious to muse cause it's really rare to hear muse on radio in singapore.

HYSTERIA!!! great song to introduce muse. in fact, it was the US version of the video. not even on the tv. internet. i was looking for some new bands and i let videos just stream. then, muse popped up with a badass bass line and cool visuals :) and i never looked back

I cant remember what the first muse song i heard was, all i know it was in 1999-2000 and i thought it was a total pile of radioheady wank. But i was quite ignorant back then, and i didnt pay any attention to them, untill my mate came around one day and told me a Muse concert was on tv that night ..... to which i answered "naah dude, ill give it a miss, i dont really like em" I ended up watching anyhow, it was before i got sky so i only had four and a half channels to watch (channel 5 had shit reception hence half a channel) and there was bugger all on them, i soon changed my mind, specially when i saw Matt do that spinning tazmanian devil thingy while playing PIB, i got hooked!

Stockholm Syndrome when it debut at #1 on Triple Js Net 50. The announcer said they were Swedish. Wrong. Still I had never heard of Muse until then but only decided to get into Muse when I heard Starlight and Map Of The Problematique.

First Muse song I ever heard was Sunburn, way back in 2000-ish when it was used in a Mac advert on TV with the caption "What does a CD look like when it burns?", that was rather cool. :D I didn't know what the song/band was at the time but I wanted to find out what it was.

Shortly after that I bought the Reloaded 1 and Reloaded 2 albums (indie compilation albums) and one had Muscle Museum on it, which I heard and fell in love with, while the other had Sunburn which I recognised as the song from the Mac ad. So naturally I bought Showbiz and was in awe, not long before Origin was released and I had much more Muse to dribble over. That is how I discovered the band that quickly became the love of my life and has been inspiring me ever since. ^_^

Unintended, back then.. had no idea it was Muse tho. I was surprised when a friend of mine during her convert-me-into-music-project played it to me and said "you've probably heard it on the radio.." she succeeded:LOL:

Deadstar was the first one I heard, got me absolutely hooked. I've never gone out and bought an album by a band I didn't know purely on the basis of hearing one song but glad I did with Muse, have been following the boys ever since.

Sunburn in '99. I loved that single (but then I also loved Blue-daba-dee at the time ). Hysteria was the tune that really got me into them, at the time I was only just getting a proper interest in music really.

Unintended in 1999. I hunted round Bath for a copy of "the album by this really good band whose name I can't quite remember" (aka: Showbiz). When I listened to it for the first time I also recognised Sunburn (was sooooo pleased when they played that at Birmingham the other week). I've <3ed them ever since.

I heard Muse on the Little Nicky OST with Cave back in 2000. Then I notcied them on Kerrang with New Born and Plug In Baby. My first boyfriend was a huge Muse fan and he helped fuel my addiction with them!

I first encountered the incredible trio when they supported Skunk Anansie at the Barrowlands in Glasgow and the rest is history.
Going to gig on the 16th and staying at hotel across road from Wembley.
Any other muse-o's in similar circumstances?:D

First heard them around the end of 99, maybe even 2000 at my brothers house. HE was playing showbiz and although I liked Muse then I didnt really get into them until Absolution in 2003. OOS completely passes me by (I blame having kids at that time for my lack of musical intellect..... I'm OK now tho.

Going to Wembers on the 16th and 17th and staying over the road too!!

9th August 2003. I only remember the date because it was a few days before my birthday and I was in Cornwall on holiday. I heard them on Radio 1 Jo Whiley played TIRO and I just fell in love with it. Within a month or so I owned the first three albums and was absoloutely obsessed.. just continued from there really...

Also going to "Wembers" both dates but staying in a Hostel in Hendon with 9 other women, should be fun

And a few days later Parc des Princes, woop, that was me skint for a month :D
