i phase in and out of liking Muse, currently i am in a like, but can't be bothered to listen to as i have better CD's around (Sigur Rós, Snow Patrol, Electric Soft Parade, Portishead etc), but yeah, Muse are still one of my fave bands, just played them to death :\
Radiohead i like a couple more commercial songs, No Suprises, Karma Police, Electioneering etc
so i suppose in reality.. i should put i do
but meh, neither compare to Sigur Rós ^_^

yes i do like both, muse just edge it for me,
however Thom Yorke irritates me sometimes, tho most of the time its not him its the way he's whored by the music media into some sort of god which i dont actually see him as, not that i think MattB is a god you understand, the media just see him as some wierd crazy musician
also to whoever mentioned Snow Patrol, i got the album today and i can safely say i like it :D

i got into muse first. . I'd always thought of radiohead as being rather depressing. . .
. . but then I listened to them properly on the ok computer album (how cliche, lol) but it was so good!!! a fantastic album, almost perfection, if not that!!
and then the bends. . another fabulous album!!

but sometimes radiohead make me think to listen more songs in one moment I just can choose witch one I prefer to listen right now :D
the best 2 or 3 in the same time...
I like Muse more; more vitality, more hope, even when the lyrics are very dark. Recently went back to listen to Radiohead more carefully after being exposed to Muse, and the verdict still stands. I must have posted a million comparative essays all over the net by now, out of ire ^_^

Radiohead have been my favourite band for 10 years...
I lurve all their albums so far and they've done nothing which I think is terrible. They're my teenage angsty emo band. :D i.e. I grew up listening to them.
When I got into Muse I thought it was just good, fun rock music. I didn't even make the comparison until I read it in the good old NME. So yeah I likes them both, innit.
I'm not overly a radiohead fan. Just a couple of sons I like, thats about it. So I shall say no.

They have so many albums...
I hate getting into an older band. I'm doing that with Modest Mouse at the moment... grrr.

It is annoying. I had to do the same with Tool, my mate Dave played me Aenima and I had to go and get that of course, then I got Undertow and got into that...
Luckily it was just before the release of Lateralus so I had the fun anticipation of waiting for it... yay.
But, yeah, OK Computer and The Bends are all you need, really. :D
In fact Teh 'Head bore me a bit lately. *gasp*

lets see, how do i put this. I was always aware of Radiohead, and sorta liked some things, other stuff, I REALLY didn't like, thought was boring and generally crap. And as i heard more people talking about how great they were, i just thought they were even more crap.
ThenI found Muse, and loved them instantly. after having heard several muse songs, without really paying attention to what others said about the band, i finally discovered that people were comparing Muse to radiohead.
Initially...i thought "wtf?" and didn't entirely get it. I could sorta see a similarity in the vocals but not overly much.
And since i still wasn't much of a radiohead fan, i soon became quite annoyed with a lot of the comparrisons. Then one day, somewhere a long the line, when paranoid android was on the radio, i randomly thought...that i actually did like them ok. And then...I became a fan of radiohead too.
I still much prefer muse though.
*loves Exit Music* :D
so my answer was yes.

I did a kindof muse-tool exchange with some guy on the tekken zaibatsu message boards in about 2001. I'd started going on about muse and posted a link to the site ( :'( oh the old red/blue muse site) and he went to it and was instantly hooked. The guy started talking to me about Tool who i hadn't heard of, so i went and downloaded some songs he advised and i loved them.

In my opinion they're both brilliant bands. Obviously Muse is influenced by Radiohead in lots of ways (Radiohead started first), but they do sound different in their own special way. They're amazing performers and songwriters... they both give you different keys to open unknown dimensions, but both keys open dimensions you never thought existed.

Someone should organise a gig with muse supporting Radiohead.

Im a huge fan of radiohead and muse, and there is really no comparison apart from maybe showbiz: yes, they are both alternative in a sense, but while radiohead has turned electronic and soft, muse is much quite elctronic, but different and much harder...anyway, you might have heard of their new songs beings inspired by belgian bands, mainly soulwax and millionaire, and if you want to listen to a good electro-acoustic song then listen to millionaire- ballad of pure thought...its pure class tell me what you think...oh and have any of you got good ideas for bands that sound like Muse? christ! i asked someone today about that and they said kasabian they're good, sure enough, but not muse, so yeah, any good suggestions of muse-sound-alikes?

Ok Computer is suppose to be the best, but i disagree, all of there albums are class, start with the song creep which is suppose to be the classic radiohead song:rolleyes: and the bends, its hard not to like every song on it and street spirit is one of the most beautiful songs ever...tell me what you think?

This is a very old thread I agree, but I wasn't around the first time so...have loved Radiohead for years and years, I thought Hail to the Thief was brilliant, not so fond of Kid A and Amnesiac though the songs come across much better live. My favourite song is Lucky and I thought my gig going life was complete once I saw them at the V Festival last year, they were amazing and not just because I was off my face.
However, I discovered Muse the weekend after that and I have to say I prefer them to Radiohead now. They inspire much more passion, Radiohead are a bit bloodless.
As for the comparisons, quite unfair and redundant. They are both technically brilliant with doom mongering lyrics and lead singers who sing like they've been kicked in the balls but thats where the similarities end.

Muse completely lost it after Dead Star and even that was pretty shit. I've never been able to listen to a Radiohead song without thinking 'If everythings so shit, why don't you get a proper job you bellends?' they make me unhealthily angry, though not as much as Morrisey.

Also...don't go and post that in a Muse area, cos I'll class it as winding people up and issue a warning :p
But is it technically a "wind up" if you genuinely believe what you're saying?

Not if it's on topic...that's not a wind up.
But people, for example, going into the PMT to post shit...that's a wind-up.
So creating a topic "Muse = shit" when you know the sort of reaction you'd get could technically be a wind up.

Awww. I was getting ready for a foray into Main Muse for the first time in ages as well...
I don't think I'd have called 'em shit though. I would've gone down the "Muse = Sellouts" route, and said that Bellamy's forgotten his roots and is more concerned about the money being radio friendly brings in etc. etc.
Ah I remember the drama caused by a few people saying they were now radio friendly
Maybe it's a "been there since near the start or since the start" thing, but it amazes me when people don't notice a difference.

Yes there was  I can remember that..
But lightshows... :stunned:
Don't they use lasers during Starlight sometimes? I think they have to or else everyone might actually listen to the song and realize how horrible it actually is.

Problem with Muse is that they've become a singles band, and singles rarely portray the true sound of a band.
Look at Black Holes, look at the songs that weren't singles - City Of Delusion, Take A Bow, Assassin, Hoodoo - those songs for me are far far far superior to the likes of Starlight, Supermassive and Knights, the more commercial side of the album.
I think their live performances are too obviously staged now too if that makes sense?

I think I get it, you mean that they're less organic and more coordinated by formula, right?
