im looking forward to this, monster Movies like Godzilla you see the build up, you know whats going to happen, you expect the monster to attack and you know more than the characters, im hoping that this film delivers, im guessing the idea of using hand held cameras is that we experience a monster attack rather than spectate one, this is a idea i really like, ok i would have preferred a war of the worlds or independence day style Alien invasion from a camcorder pov, but a monster movie pleases me almost as much.

I think I’m safe, for now. Wherever I go it isn’t long before they
find me.
It seems The Mezin are connected to every aspect of humanity, from
culture and religion to our most advanced technology
I have to be more careful contacting all of you. When I began I
thought I could safely speak about his writings and perhaps save us all...
but now it seems I will have to find a more subtle way to share
his visions.
If this is the first message you have received from me do not give up
hope! There are others that have gone before you, the way has been
found, you only need to search and you will find the answers you seek. We
will all have a role to play. We are getting stronger, our voices will
be heard!
I have more of Haas’s writings, once I find a secure way to transmit
them I will leave you clues to find them.
The more I read the more I realize Haas was right………

I thought it was a brilliant film and the monster design was excellent. I've heard that a lot of people missed this, so...
During the last scene between Rob and Beth, set a few weeks before the attack, you see the monster arrive. While the camera is viewing the ocean, you see a small comet hit the water near the top right of the screen, and that is meant to be the monster! Edit - Supposedly, it could also be a sattelite, and that woke up the monster.
All the tie-in videos and stuff are confusing, but add a new depth to the whole film.
DJ Stay
22-01-2008, 05:30 AM
Abrams said that the monster had been living in the sea for thousands of years, and I guess the satellite in the end did wake it up. Also, there's an audio clip at the end of the credits, and it really doesn't sound like much, but when reversed it says "It's still alive." So maybe we might see a sequel.
For those that pay attention to Lost and all of its shananigans you'll know that there is more to the show just than the stuff you see on screen. Abrams has been doing the same with this. I think there are a few websites that have been out there for awhile that go with the movie and I bet there will be more to come.

Yeah, the director has said he is already considering a sequel as this one has done so well. http://cloverfieldclues.blogspot.com/ is a great website that explains all the website tie-ins and all the other things that are connected, like the characters MySpace accounts where they actually commented eachother up until the film was released (as they all died after that).
The Slusho! drink (http://www.slusho.jp/) also has something to do with everything, or the ingredients at least. www.jamieandteddy.com password is jllovesth. Slusho! appears in Heroes and Alias as well, not sure about Lost.

At the very end of the credits there is a distorted audio clip from what seems to be the camera and the guy appears to say 'Help us.' However, if that clip is reversed, you can also make it out as 'It's still alive!'

God, that place is depraved. I had a question about a film, thought I'd check on the boards if there was anything there. After ploughing through pages of "OMG! Does X get her tits out or not!", "Haha - She got MURDERED!!!!" and "You people are c***s for liking this movie!" I thought it was best if the question remained unanswered. Not a nice place. :noey:
On topic: my brother's been raving about this film. I'm going to try to check it out this weekend. From reading some of the posts, I gather for the best experience I'd best keep storyline/acting expectations mid-low and just enjoy the spectacle, right?

I didn't see the movie but I guess the whole point of the lack of climax and an unexpected end is to keep in the spirit of amature camera footage that is shown to you without much context, like the blairwitch project.
just saw it last night. it angered me how people booed with the "crummy" ending

Ah darn I didn't stay behind long enough, I needed some fresh air to clear out the motion sickness haha.
I saw it last night, didn't have a clue about, didn't see any trailers or owt, I only heard about the motion sickness, how it was filmed and it's about some monster.
I thought it was really nicely done, filmed and put together. Though it's meant to be all handycam style filming there's just lots of details and thought put in towards each shot.
Oh, and I liked the ending, sometimes it's hard to know how to end these sort of films but they did it well.
Amusingly in the cinema the first thing I heard some someone go "is that it" followed by someone saying that was shit because they felt sick all through it.
Ah well that's motion sickness for you ha.

Quite liked it. It was overhyped, but take away the "this is the best film ever!!!" twaddle, and you actually get a fairly decent action/sci-fi film (with slightly crap acting occasionally, but, ho hum). The camera-work took a bit of getting used to, but overall felt it was an hour and a bit spent fairly well.

I quite liked it, it had some decently scary parts, especially the subway tunnel. I wasn't that happy with the ending though..
I would have been happier if it had ended with the helicopter crash and the "Target is still moving" broadcast on the radio, or if after they got out of the wreckage Hut had just left the camera there filming them hobble off, so it would be less certain what happened to them.

But then we wouldn't see that nice shot of the monster things face and Hud getting eaten
There is so much more to this movie though than what we first see.
For example:
The apparant satellite which is seen falling into the sea on the final scene at the beach.
This apparantly disrupted the sea monster.
Saw it last night, and though it was pretty original and entertaining.
The start was a little crummy though, and the camera guy annoyed the hell out of me.
It would be pretty exciting for something like that to happen though.
Edit: And who on earth would go back to save someone? Let alone follow the guy who wants to go back and save someone.
Plus i'd do something good for my last final living moment.

My girlfriend and I watched this movie then made a deal, if we are ever in two separate parts of a city when a giant monster turns up and starts ripping everyone a new arsehole its save your own backside time

To start off....Those people who dont like it, your entitled to your opinion but fuck off, Its the best film iv ever seen! Better than blair witch! It was Brilliant!
When that girls head blew up, and When the guy filming got bitten in half! those two moments almost killed me!
There Might even be a sequel to it! Im not sure thats such a good idea mind....
CS: Any possibilities for a "Cloverfield" sequel?
Reeves: This was so fun 'cause we'd never done anything like it, and I think we'd want to find a similar challenge, to find a way to have its roots in this but be fresh and new, otherwise you're just repeating yourself. There's a moment on the Brooklyn Bridge, and there was a guy filming something on the side of the bridge, and Hud sees him filming and he turns over and he sees the ship that's been capsized and sees the headless Statue of Liberty, and then he turns back and this guy's briefly filming him. In my mind that was two movies intersecting for a brief moment, and I thought there was something interesting in the idea that this incident happened and there are so many different points of view, and there are several different movies at least happening that evening and we just saw one piece of another. That idea sort of tickled me. We'll have to see if anyone would want a sequel. If the movie does well and we find a compelling reason to do so then it would be fun to do a sequel. full interview (http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=41100)

But then we wouldn't see that nice shot of the monster things face and Hud getting eaten
But it seemed so.. Cheesy, for lack of a better word, that he got eaten by the monster itself. One of the parasites would be far more plausible than BAM MONSTER OUT OF NOWHERE

But then I'd think the film would be too much about the parasites since they bit Marlena and she died from that and the film is about the monster itself so I thought it was good that they at least showed someone get killed from it that close even though it was pretty lame that no one saw the monster walking up to them, you can't exactly miss that thing
What an awesome, intense movie that was!!!:D:D
I really liked it!!! And there will be Cloverfield 2 next year.

Yeah! I had to listen to commentary and I STILL can't see it.
Basically, one of them uses a different piece of archive footage from the camera, and the other, like I said, I'm not even sure what the difference is meant to be.

I think the extras on the special edition are quite good, they show how they made the monster and loads of bits of filming and stuff.

How is this film on tv screens?I would imagine it wouldn't be half as good unless it was on a cinema screen.

got my copy in a metal casing 3 days before its release, thank you hmv :D Still like the film, not as good watching it on the tv though. I was pretty interested in how they filmed and whatnot, pretty stunned with parts they filmed in a car park and then in the film its like the middle of new york.

I rented this from Blockbuster a month or so ago...it was good, but I have to say, as hyped up as I was for this, I was disappointed with the ending. And I was pissed the whole time that that guy kept putting his friends in jeaopardy to go save Beth. I mean, if I were one of those girls, I'd have gotten the fuck out of there...and the monster coming out of nowhere and eating the cameraman, who was really the only likable charater was just FAIL.

The ending not being a happy one must be something new for Americans I can imagine but the end was kind of predictable. At the start of the film it shows that this is a tape so you already start assuming that this was the only way of telling the story. The fact that everyone went with him puzzled me as well but wasn't THAT exceptional. Maybe I would have done the same in a similar situation. I don't know. What was also weird was that although everyone kept having a go at the cameraman for continuing to film that the 2 remaining characters picked up the camera afterwards in stead of running for their lives and kept filming themselves.

No, I have no problem with an unhappy ending...but I DO have a problem with a stupid one! Honestly, it was just...lame. Like you said, they started filiming themselves after they gave the cameraman such bullshit for not putting it down. And I found the whole "I love you!" thing to be a bit cheesey...hopefully the sequel will make up for this.
So, now with the wonders of DVD and pausing, can you actually see a satellite falling into the sea in the end scene?

You should definitely be able to see the splash, it's on the right side of the screen.

Watching it on a television was fine, I found.
I watched it this morning. I thought the actions of those in it were pretty much spot on. If you'd just lost your brother who had told you to live for the moment you'd want want to take that advice & go & save the woman you love & if you were friends with him, why would you leave him to it? Makes total sense to me, not that it is the right thing to do. I also don't find it cheesy that two people in love who are facing imminent death to express this to each other - as he said, Lilly & the other guy were different as they knew they loved each other. Beth & thingy had only this once chance to express it.
I couldn't work out if Lilly survived. It looked like the first helicopter fell or it could have been something else.
