Murder Ballads is amazing, his writing is phenominal, but sometimes he doesn't half record some poor songs.

Two full new albums? I didn't hear anything about it, I was in the shop the other day and they were playing some songs off of it. It sounded ok.

Lanegan pips it for me, though Cave's voice is brilliant also.

People who love Cave's voice should check out Cathal Coughlan (solo artist, and ex Microdisney and Fatima Mansions vocalist). He has great lyrics too.

I sat opposite him, on the train from Victoria to Brighton once. He was eating a pannini and reading some tome by a 19C German philosopher. Our feet touched...

In fact, the last concert I was at was the Nick Cave concert in Wellington. The last one before that was The Muse concert I auckland.

There are some good songs of his on the b-sides and rarities triple. Namely the Shane MacGowan songs, uh, there's a duo they do of Where the Wild roses grow. And a cover of What A Wonderful World and Rye Whiskey is on there too. I like these.

From the Abbatoir Blues/Lyre of Orpheus double the song Lyre of Orpheus is a good one. Or so I think. Breathless is a nice one. As is Supernaturally. I like that one.
Get Ready for Love, Hiding All the Way and There She Goes My Beutiful World are good songs.
This album is a lot less dark and gloomy than a some of the previous albums.

Right Now I am a Roaming is a fantastic Cave song.
Stagger Lee, the Curse of Millhaven, God Is In The House, O' Malleys bar, the Weeping Song, The Ship Song and The Mercy Seat are also Favourites of mine.

Argh, got all the way through ordering a ticket for Hammersmith Apollo from SeeTickets only for them to say there was a problem with the order and ring to check on availability. Boo.

Bloody ticketmaster is asking for the Verify By Visa thing on my card that I haven't even set up. Arsebucket. :(

Can't seem to get over Let Love In. Murder Ballads is another great album, but it doesn't have the same atmosphere.

I love the lyrics in the one part of Loverman:

I'll say it again
L is for LOVE, baby
O is for OH yes I do
V is for VIRTUE, so I ain't gonna hurt you
E is for EVEN if you want me to
R is for RENDER unto me, baby
M is for that which is MINE
A is for ANY old how, darling
N is for ANY old time

The interview with Nick Cave in Mojo is a pretty good read. He has an air of slightly grubby aristrocrat about him, in his middle-age.

Stranger than Kindness is brilliant.

Have you heard Tender Prey? That too is a weird but great album. It's got The Mercy Seat, Deanna, Up Jumped the Devil and City of Refuge on it.

Not too shabby. My favorite was Up Jumped the Devil.

On a negative note, the album Nocturama kind of sucks.

Some of the early albums are being re-released, remastered and with a bonus disc of stuff, according to Amazon. Kicking Against the Pricks, From Her to Eternity, and your Funeral...My Trial are included.

I've been listening to The Good Son a lot lately, and that album is becoming one of my favourites of theirs.

Let Love In is an absolute classic, an essential purchase, so I'd definitely start there.

I'd then go for No More Shall We Part and The Good Son for the epic-tune stuff, and Henry's Dream and Tender Prey for the more creepy stuff. Latest album Dig!!! Lazerus Dig!!! is worth a punt also.

You can get the Best Of pretty cheap now, and that will give you a fairly decent idea of their earlier stuff.

Nocturama is for me one of their weakest, so I'd avoid that for now.

Check out Cave's other band Grinderman too.
