I downloaded this at the weekend and it just made me go 'meh'. The 2 Vermilion tracks are OK, but there's nothing stand-out and a couple like 'Pulse of the Maggots' and 'the Virus of Life' are just Godawful.

i'll get flared for this probably (like i care) but i love slipknot
vol.3 is an obvious move from their past work, i find it more akin to Stone Sour in some places, and others towards the s/t and MFKR (but only slightly)
it is more melodic than any of the other albums too Corey sings a lot more and there is more freedom with the guitars

I fucking love it.
I enjoy heavier stuff sometimes, but i have to say that i love the soft chorus then crashing back into the metal. Who would have thought that slipknot would be so fucking good at acoustic tracks, and even adding strings in.
To me this is as good as metal gets, heavy but with a tune.
Duality is excellent, The Nameless is superb, The Blister Exists is top class and so is pretty much everything else on there.
My advice, re-listen!
As with so much stuff, repeated listening reveals more tune and it just gets better with each listen.

I've listened to Duality, and I don't usually like Slipknot but I like that song; it is distinguishable from the rest of what they've done, I like the fact that there are harmonics on the guitar that remind me of The Sleep by Pantera, and that Corey Taylor actually sings in it.

That's what I thought.
I used to hate Slipknot. The only song I liked was My Plague.
Now I love Duality, and I'm seriously considering buying Vol 3, which you have to admit, is a big step for me. I usually buy things like Funeral for a Friend and Amplifier.

It is a welcome change, and I hope they continue to progress. Not many bands within their genre try to push themselves onwards, especially if they could make a fat pile of cash just by spieling out the same old crap (not mentioning any names....)

I wish to congratulate them. If I ever meet them (highly unlikely) I would like to shake their collective hand, as it were. :D

i bought vol3 a while back on hearing duality, and i really liked the album, got that rock charisma about it and it is very good music from a musicians point of view, then i bought iowa and slipknot, and they are very different albums, IOWA is just plaina amazing, my plague is such a good song and people=shit, and slipknot has some crackers on it too, i used to dislike them when i was first gettin into rock as i just saw 9 pricks with masks on screaming about this and that, but ive grown to them, the masks suit them, its just an expression of themselves and whether its a gimmick or not, its still an expression, and when you read upon some of the song meanings you realise corey's lack of giving a fuck about what the masses want, he dosnt hold back and writes full immersive songs that have meaning, albeit there all depressing BUT its better than emotionless crap, he dosnt give a shit basically and i like that in bands it lets the music flourish which is what it should all be about, and then you have the corey taylors lyrics, admiteddly there not always the easiet to pick out lol but when you look them up or listen intensively the way he sings his lyrcs are perfect, for me he is the best writer of lyrics in the world, he has that edge over bellamy, but the lyrics to my plague and just beyond outstanding genius...plus they fucking rock

Slipknot are definitely one of my fave bands of the moment. I heard duailty and had to get the new album. They've toned themselves down a bit so you can actualy hear what they are saying in their songs now so i really like it. Absolutely love Vermilion and am so glad they have released this one next

Okay, just listened to their new single, 'All Hope Is Gone'...
Well, at least they're deviating from their formula a bit:

Corey's voice sounds different. It's either been processed or he's changed it.
There's a CHORUS behind him singing.
It's more rousing...anthemic sort of. Like Pulse of the Maggots but less bare.
There's a solo that wouldn't look out of place in a Slayer/Metallica record.

From the start it sounds pretty generic Slipknot, but then it all starts happening...The same style of verse is there, but the chorus and solo is where it's all at.

One of my mates recommended the new Slipknot album to me saying it was an evolution for the band and a really good metal album. I have since killed this friend.

I used to hate Slipknot before I listen to All hope is gone. Its rather good, id get that one first.
Volume 3 is probably my fave now though.

The autopsy didn't find anything, any toxicology result will take a few weeks before anything is confirmed. They did confirm that no foul play or trauma was involved though.

Those two are definetly the most accessible and good places to start; I started with Vol. 3 personally. If you really like it, you can try going back to their first and second albums, which are quite insane and not for everyone. Certainly for me though. :happy:

I'm not that hip on Vol.3, mostly because it has this "gothic/darker and edgier aura" about it. Anyone who's heard the two Vermilion parts, Circle and The Nameless should know what I'm talking about. I never thought that really fit Slipknot. The album does have Pulse Of The Maggots, Duality, Opium of The People and Danger - Keep Away though.

AHIG has a bit of a more mainstream sound to it but it is alot more upbeat. I enjoy that one alot. It also has probably the best intro to an album I have ever heard, it gives me chills to this day. Also Vendetta, Psychosocial and Butcher's Hook are in my list of god-tier Slipknot songs.

The magnum opus, for a great majority of maggots, me included, is still Iowa though.

I think I see what you mean. Some of the tracks don't really go with the perception I used to have of Slipknot. But as I used to think they were shit, that may be a good thing. :LOL:

Anyway, I did get Vol 3. Definitely enjoying it!
