Just wondering what everyones views are on it

I could probably get quite a few bob for mine as it's got a seymour duncan SH-4 in it now...but I don't think I could ever bring myself to sell my first ever guitar

I'm gonna smash my shitty encore shitbag to pieces sometime when I feel it's right.

Sure, although it's likely much harder to sell off a (now) fretless Fender Squier. Not that it had any resale value to begin with... Now it's just a mod-experimentation guitar for me.

I gave mine away for free.

It wasn't even my guitar. But it was my first.

I wouldn't really wanna sell my Ibanez GRX20.
Mainly because once I get another guitar, I have either a backup guitar, or a guitar for Drop D/Eb/Drop Db tuning (probably would want to change to a hardtail though)

Also, it'd be hard to sell, cos my guitar is pretty worn down now.
Plus I still reckon it sounds pretty decent...

i could and i did

i liked my first guitar, and it was a nice guitar for what it was worth

i just knew that there were better guitars out there, so it had to be replaced once i got the cash. i really dont regret it, if i still had my first guitar it'd be nice, but i really would never play it.

Well...

Mine eventually broke, but I have the neck and electronics on the white squier I have now. (my first one was exactly the same, I think)

So I can't really sell it since the body's lost somewhere and I'm currently using the neck and pretty much everything else....

Selling mine wasn't all that hard to do--I didn't really like it much, and as it was a 'Van Halen' Strat with one monster Bartolini it made some impressive noise, and I got a good price for it...so what did I do with the money? Bought another Strat! But this one is a good ol' stock American Strat, so I'm happy!

I don't ever want to sell my first guitar, I love it so much. I mean, it may only be a cheap piece of shit, but it's lasted me five years so far. That said, I am aiming to replace it by the end of the year.

Lol My uncle bought me a fender(Not squier) strat i actully never knew it so much worht until i saw hendrix on tv

When I started playing, I had a small child's nylon strung guitar, and then had to "trade up" to a medium sized one, and then a full sized one, and then the steel strung honer I have now. I think of this as my first guitar, because it's the first one I actually wanted to get, rather than having to buy a "learner's guitar". Anyone else have this experience?

I sold my first bass, which was a white squire musician or something. Quite a weird obscure short scale bass. I loved it but wanted a drum kit so bad!

The one guitar I would have never sold, I had stolen out of my last house :-(

MarkOfTheProblematique!!!
21-05-2007, 11:52 AM
I still kinda like my squire strat, its been in my hands for about a year and three quarters now

I still really like it, i still even play it,nice soapy (cheap) sounding pickups, even though theirs so many dents in the thing, doesent compare to my les paul though (i love that thing:D) but im gonna keep it for a good while :)(hardly get any money off it now anyway haha)

I took my Encore Strat to pieces, and kept the electrics etc. just in case. It was a fucking horrible guitar by anyone's standards.

Well, with my first guitar, I'm taking it apart, and looking up all the electronics inside, and then going to attempt to mod it up. Since it's only a cheap thing, I thought, I can't part with my first instrument, so why not learn the electronics of a guitar, and make it a decent instrument. It will give me something to do, and I'll have the satisfaction of creating a good guitar out of a shit one and still having my first instrument. Sorted. :)

Only the wood of the body, and thus ofcourse the overal tone will still be shat.

Im trying to get my mom to play on my first guitar but she says she's not musical... so now its just being raped with some way too heavy gauge strings
its a strat from Sx, cheap cheap cheap

But to say it's cheap, the tone isn't too bad anyway. I actually quite like the tone of it, so it'll make no difference. It was cheap, but not the cheapest. Sounds pretty good to me, so I'll be fine with the sound after.

My first guitar was a classical spanish guitar with nylons.
My first Electric was a Washburn BT-2 and it was fucking A, I sold it to my mum who gave it to my sister who I then took it from. Great success.

I sold my guitars as I had to "upgrade" when I was younger. I started on a very small one and worked up. I still have the full size acoustic which was at the end of my upgrading chain, but it's fucked. I couldn't sell it if I wanted to, which is the sort of condition everyone's first guitar should be in.

I sold my first bass for a drum kit, and I wish I still had it, but i'm glad I can play drums. Swings and raaaaaaandabaaaaaeeeeeerts.

It's kind of a stupid question, because no-one WANTs to sell their first guitar, it's just whether you NEED to or not. For example, when Sam's mum needed an entire blood replacement due to aids, I was willing to sell my car to finance the operation, because it was worth it to me. If it had been Sam on the other hand, I don't think me or his mum would be talking about selling assets. We'd probably be discussing life insurance and the sort of epic twisted sex we can have in his room once his corpse has been burned.

I'd never sell my first guitar, it's not a overly good guitar or anything so it's not as if I'd make money on it, I don't really use it, but I'll definitly be keeping it.

firstly, for the record - i wasnt being abusive with the WTF IS THIS SHIT pic. sigh

It was a lol, a slight nudge, a HINT even. Buuutttt, that didnt work. You're an internet tough guy, it seems. Or an idiot, either way, you took it far too seriously and have pissed off some people and ruined a good thread.

So, i'll continue, utilising this list from wikipedia:

Nob is a village mentioned in the Book of Judges

Nob may also refer to:

* Nob, Israel, a place in the vicinity of Jerusalem
* Non-occluded baculovirus, a genus of virus
* Newell's Old Boys, a popular football team from Rosario, Argentina
* NOB, Nederlandse Onderwatersport Bond, (Dutch Underwater sports Union), a broadcast facility company in the Netherlands
* NOB, a branch of the international diving organization CMAS in Holland.
* Nobuo Yamada, a Japanese singer better known as NoB
* Nob Yoshigahara, a Japanese puzzle-maker
* NOB, Narodno-oslobodilačka borba - Yugoslav people's national liberation struggle during World War II
* National Liberation War of Macedonia, a regional offensive of the Yugoslav People's Liberation War
* Nob: the glans (or "head") of the penis, commonly used in the United Kingdom. Sometimes used as a insult.

the placement of your insult in the above list kind of sums up your argument- its placement at the bottom of a pile on Wikipedia is on a par with reading the Daily Fail and considering yourself informed.

You do know what the Daily Fail is, right?

Either way - use common sense, hell, even learn some better insults, and we won't be dicks. You wouldn't see me coming into your house, calling your mum a fat ugly bitch, kicking your dog in the face and shitting on your couch.

to be frank, you dredge up something from the past. while we're at it, let's discuss burning cows in fields a'la 1997, or how british soldiers have to dig huge-ass trenches deep in french fields to stop getting mown down by german machine gun placements. hell, some boat hit an iceberg and sank not too long ago, very tragic, apparently was a bit of a big deal, was called Titania or something silly like that? the guy from The Departed was on it, was drowned by the fat bitch from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

WE DONT LIKE OLD THREADS. ITS THAT SIMPLE. PROGRESSIVE DISCUSSION, ITS THE WAY FORWARD

(and if you don't get the pun there, i fear for your surival.)

On a serious note, I have the biggest crush EVER on Miss Blee. I love the strong dominating women.

Bump.

I also have a shitty Encore guitar, The G string feels the need to drop nearly a semi tone when you bend it :p The Bridge pick up died and isn't worth replacing. I'd never sell it though.

Well that was my first electric but my first(and only) Acoustic I definately plan to keep forever because it was bought as a present for me when I first started playing it currently lives in the attic due to very bad neck damage from my younger brother knocking it on the floor alot to annoy me and now when you get around 12th fret on the top strings it sounds all muted and buzzy. It spent my guitar teacher and his friend who is a guitar tech a few hours looking at it and they couldn't come find a way to fix it :( but it still comes out every now and then for some Karma Police :)

My first guitar is one of those 'beginner guitars' you know?
A strat look-a-like. Red. It used to buzz, struggled to stay in tune, awful sound.. but i wouldn't sell it. [In my case it'd be giving it away]
I used that thing for about a year. It was so shite, but it made me realise how much i wanted to play. If i could struggle along with that awful thing and not ever loose interest, i knew i'd keep playing.
Plus, i want to start experimenting on it ;)

My first was a shitty Ibanez starter guitar from one of those packages. It's not worth selling so it's just my beater guitar for throwing around at the more underground sort of shows we play.

considering the condition of my Ibanez electric, i would be hopefully able to get enough money to get a decent Jackson. In other words yes, I would

I sold mine easily as it was a putrid pile of GSK. It was a candy apple red gliitered, semi hollow electric guitar. It sounded terrible and felt equally as horrible to hold. It was not a comfortable instrument to play.

Yes... And i plan on doing so soon to save for a new amp... £30 would be like the perfect amount and I reckon even for a shitey knocked up guitar thats not too bad?

my first (and only at the moment) guitar is a fender strat replica one...it's a really bright red and it was quite cheap..but it actually plays really really well..it's such a good guitar but evern if it wasn't i'd never sell it! it's lie selling your child!

I used mine as a club, I don't think anybody would want to buy it

It's/was a €100 squire strat, really really dislike strats.

Could never sell my little acoustic  It's only a 3/4 size, but works just fine, and I have no need for anything else. Love it to bits!

My first (and only so far) electric on the other hand...Had it for about 5 years, it's falling to bits, loose connections everywhere, have to get the spanner out and screw the jack lead back in every so often, innotation is fucked, pickup switch only works occasionally etc. etc.. I'd happily sell it if I could get anything for it!

My first guitar, a shitty second hand encore strat is somewhere in Dublin. I gave it to a friend as a prop (since the input was fucked, pick-ups were fucked and neck was warped).

The second guitar though, even with its dodgy tone knobs and gaffed taped input jack is never being sold.

Sold my squier affinity strat not long ago. Neck wasn't bad etc but the pickups where piss poor imo and I hated playing it for that reason.

I really regret selling my first ever shattter to ben I think kent. Id love to negotiate a buy back if he is stilll around. I played countless gigs through high school with it. It has a lot of sentimental value to me.

For a year and some odd months I've been playing a functional but, by comparison to anything else, shitty, Strat copy made by the amp company it came bundled with. Wouldn't hesitate to sell whatsoever!
