I have been a huge fan of Muse ever since hearing Sunburn played on Soccer AM about 8 years ago and have since seen them countless times. Probably like a lot of people on here, their music has inspired me and been a big soundtrack through life over the past decade.

My other passion is horse racing and I’ve always dreamt of owning a racehorse. This year I decided to fulfil my dream as a few things have happened to make me realise life really is too short. When it came to naming him, there was only one real choice for the theme.

Ive called him

Supermassive Muse.

http://www.racingpost.com/horses/horse_home.sd?horse_id=680124

Anyway to cut a long story short, I got a two year old which will be running this year. Already entered for a good race in October but hopefully should have a few runs before hand.

I’ve had a lot of stick off my mate’s for naming it after my favourite band but at the end of the day it’s just a bit of fun, I just hope it wins a few times!!

I was thinking of calling it City of Delusion, Knights of Cydonia or after another one of my fav Muse songs but I wanted Muse to be in the title somewhere hence the name. I will post on here when it is due to race for the first time, I can't wait!!

ps The angelthatislo, The horse is with Eddie Mcmahon in Tamworth W. Midlands
Yeah i remember reading on here you were involved in horseracing. Was it Carl Lllewllen or Twiston Davies you rode for.

Captain Rio has been really talked up over here as a sire, and also as a sire of early two year-olds so hopefully you might see a bit of early speed from the colt. :)

Good luck!

haha u can't lay him, you've got to cheer him on!!

All i know is his dad (Captain Rio) was a good sprinter and i'll just be happy if he finishes in the top 6, it will be a difficult race for a first timer running against horses who have been placed before. But hopefully it will win a race somewhere.

Btw its its Saturday 6PM Warwick, i will know for sure on Thursday that its definitely going

do you know how its been working at home?

oh and dont forget to be extra nice to the lad/lass who leads it up. i'm sure you will. it goes along way when a owner acknowledges you. we're often forgotton, and we're the ones who have been up at the crack of dawn, bathed it, made them look beautiful and travelled numpty hrs to get to the race course, then to have to declare saddle up pull out lead around the parade ring for 1/2hr(not fun with certain youngsters) then after the race, wash them down, walk them down and travel the journey home before putting them to bed (this is all providing nothing has gone wrong in the race). the latest i got back one evening was 1.20am after my horse had been to an evening meeting in liverpool.

i looked after one of Trevor Hemmings horses for 2 seasons and considering how many he has he still said hello to me even when i wasnt leading up one of his. another of my owners used to give me £10 everytime, and when my best horse was killed his owner sent me a huge boquet of flowers with a card thanking me for looking after him.

rickjames

I know it had sore shins for a bit(but a lot of 2 year olds do cos they're growing and under a lot of pressure with hard training). If im honest ive not been one of these people ringing up all the time cos i dont want to seem to be pushing for a run when its not ready but the brief conversations ive had it has been working well and its got a great big backside which is good for sprinters.

I will be especially nice to the stable people too, i appreciate what your saying. Its my first ever experience owning a horse so its gonna be a huge learning curve. I know a lot about horseracing betting wise as used to work in Ladbrokes, but horses themselves maybe not so much. That was a really nice what that owner did btw :-)

It came 7th but only beaten 4 1/4 lengths by the winner so not bad for a debut.

It was really funny to hear the name mentioned by the commentator and apparantly when they were reading the horses out on the TV, they said " Number 11, the amusingly titled Supermassive Muse". Don't know what they meant by that!!!

Im sure it will win a race in time. I'll post some pictures of the horse when i upload them.

wow he looks a fiesty one, beautiful though. looks like he has character :p

well done for the weekend, i missed it as i had to work but sounds like it was a good solid debut. How did he behave in the paddock, he looks like he was a bit reved up but thats normal for babys, (and 8yr old chasers:rolleyes: )

did he go in and leave the starting stalls alright? i was watching the racing last night and one had to be with drawn as he didn't want to go in. i also remember when we had a couple of flat horses on the yard practicising in those starting stalls and theres not much room.

rickjames
15-05-2007, 11:49 AM
he is extremely feisty. I have never seen a horse on edge so much before a race, he was like foaming at the mouth chewing on his bit. It left the stalls fine but it wasnt really his ground as it was a bit soft but i reckon he will come on a lot for the run. Hoping to race somewhere nearer me next time. Possibly Haydock or somewhere like that. PS I took your advice and gave the stable lad £20 :-)

Calliope

Love the name
The commentator probably thinks he's named after one of the Greek muses ... a really fat one :D

I go to the races alot and always back anything remotely to do with Muse (or Pearl Jam!) I get winners .. sometimes. Picking them out of the paddock gets the best results though :yesey: .. Maybe I'll get to see your horse run "in the flesh" one day :D

Very best of luck with him .. you're living my dream!!!!

ps .. if you ever want him painted, I'm your gal ;) That's what I do :D

oh Haydocks lovely, a nice track and nice location, however with this rain we've had you might find it still too soft if that was the case at the weekend, might have to weight for the better weather.

yes i could imagine he would have been like that from the picture. He should definatly come on for that. he's probably pulling the arms out of some poor lad as we speak. he'll know what its about next time and hopefully it should have knocked some of the greeness out of him.

aww good on you for dropping the stable lad it oes mean a lot to know owners appreciate the hard work, and from the looks of your horse in the padock i think the stable lad earned that

there were so many times horses would throw their weight around, barge over you leap about etc and you just had to smile and try and do as much as you could with out drawing attention as the crowd would always be watching, as were the tv cameras.

Calliope haha I do want to get a big framed photo of him, but maybe if he gets into winners enclosure, that would be time to do that!!

It is entered into the big sprint race at redcar(in October) which is near you, i take it. But it will have to prove its worth to take its place in that race. Fingers crossed

i've only lead up national hunt horses, we had a few flat runners everynow and then, but i've been to chester to watch as my dad is a huge racing fan so before i could walk i was riding and watching racing, and as a child my dad would take me racing all over the place. It was my dad i have to thank you all my horsey achievements as when I was 2 i was watching the national and pointed to the tv and said i want to do that. 20 years later i still am. (although only past time now as i'm studying as well)

i shall be going to the derby though in a couple of weeks and kemptons only down the road. from where i am currently living :)

my dads from liverpool but then also grew up in chester/wrexham so much of his child hood was spent at bangor and cheester also. i've been luckey enough to lead up at cheltenham a few times and the atmosphere is electric and very nervracking, i was also very luckey to lead a winner into the old winners enclosure at aintree and my 1st winner was at bangor on dee:happy:

Congrats Nick thats a beautiful horse! I've always wanted to own a horse for as long as I can remember but living in the city all of my life has made that not possible. As a child I wanted to be a female jockey and win the triple crown or atleast the Kentucky Derby. Instead, I jockey a sportbike.lol But I never miss the airing of The Grand National even though it pains me to see horses falling or injured. I still think it to be the most exciting horse race in the world. Ofcourse, being American The Preakness,Belmont and Kentucky Derby are our bread and butter. Clear skies and best of luck to Massive in this next race!

It was just possibly the best day of my life. When they went past the finish line, some of us were convinced it had won but we were just past the winning post and it stayed on really strongly. I am so so chuffed the horse seems to be really getting better, although about half my village had backed it to win, so would have been nice but i did say it had a good each way chance. Maybe next time

I still had a hangover on Sunday. What was funny but gutting was we were in the 2nd place spot in the winners enclosure and this man walked past with the biggest bottles of Mum Champagne ive seen. But they were for the winning owner, but as well as the prize money Haydock were brill they gave us 8 free tickets to get in, free food and DVD's of the race afterwards. Ive watched it back about 20 times and every time i think its gonna get up to win!!!

Well have a good time at Epsom, will be watching, maybe one day can be there with the horse. Well thats dreaming a bit too far!!

Epsom, I wish!! its not in that class yet.

Well i dont want to think about the answer to this cos, it may be going to Haydock in two weeks, which will be brilliant as not far away or as i feared when i bought my Wembley tickets. Theres a chance it may run at Bath on the 16th!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Which will mean trying to get down to London, check into hotel and into stadium(missing all the support acts - not a bad thing) and being in a suit so will have to change too....

i'm not gonna worry till i find out, but worse case i could just change for a Sunday ticket or go both nights!

Well as feared it looks like it may be running this Saturday as its entered for the Bath race,

http://horses.sportinglife.com/Racecards/0,12495,233174,00.html

so I've got a big round trip to see Muse afterwards.

However on the plus point it will be an unbelievable day if it wins and i think it has got a big chance!!

So anyone passes a bookies on the way to Wembley you can watch it, its the 2.50 at Bath. Hopefully it will give you some extra spending money for the night!!!!

Its hard to say there are two other horses in race with similar form. My guess 4/1.....

Ha ha - I couldn't believe it. We were just pulling into Wembley Park on the tube, and checked the racing results on the mobile. I yelled out to the whole carriage "Aaaagh, it won!" So I went off to see Muse £10 richer, thank you very much - a good day all round.

Hey, congratulations on your first win! :)

What a fXXking fantastic day. Thank you for all your messages. It was quite simply the best day of my life.

Im not afraid to admit i was crying my eyes out. One thing i never told anyone is i lost my Auntie to cancer just after buying the horse and she chose the horses colours before she died. So it was very upsetting but also amazing. Apparently on the racing channel they said " I wonder if the owner is off to see Muse". I went after racing and it was just unreal

I think Supermassive has a big future, hopefully everyone can make a few quid too :-)

I found out about this result when I was looking through the form at Royal Ascot and I noticed that one of the runners ran second last start to Supermassive Muse!

So I had to come and add my congratulations to the ones already posted. :)

Looks like a pretty talented horse, hope that win was the first of many.

Thanks yes, Gasmanfightsback who Superrmassive beat goes to Royal Ascot today. I cant even imagine if Supermassive Muse was running there. If it did i'd be tempted to invite the band(although they'd prob be too busy to come) and everyone from here!! Well who knows what the future holds!!

Personally i think the step up to 6 furlongs will suit, as in his last two races, its run so much better towards the end of the race. I just hope the ground doesnt get too soft, as its meant to be pretty torrential down south in next few days, but its the same for all the horses!!

There wont be that many runners, i reckon about 14, 32 is just the amount that have entered, but they narrow the field down and preference is given for winning horses so HE:p will be OK

He's just been confirmed for the 1st race at Windsor on Saturday. Horse number 2, (which was its number when he won on Wembley day), ridden by Richard Quinn and the forecast is 7-1 so not a bad each way bet. :)

:LOL:the 3 main pubs in the local villages are all racing driven ie they're all linked in some form to the racing world, where i do some shifts used to be owned by my old boss NTD but is now run by 2 scots who happen to have a horse in training with nigel named after the pub, another is run by the parents of nigels conditional and the other is run by a racing enthusiast
plus is the local of jump jocks such as choc, Warren Marsten, Andrew Tinkler and many more (makes for a crazy week during the festival as they're only about 15 miles form cheltenham too.)

unfortunately unless they have a disco there is no muse, mainly james blunt or something similar as back ground music...the duke box at the halfway does have queen, rolling stones and all the Now....

I have been a huge fan of Muse ever since hearing Sunburn played on Soccer AM about 8 years ago and have since seen them countless times. Probably like a lot of people on here, their music has inspired me and been a big soundtrack through life over the past decade.

My other passion is horse racing and Iíve always dreamt of owning a racehorse. This year I decided to fulfil my dream as a few things have happened to make me realise life really is too short. When it came to naming him, there was only one real choice for the theme.

Ive called him

Supermassive Muse.

http://www.racingpost.co.uk/horses/search_results.sd?searchtext=supermass&searchtype=Horse&start_no=1

Anyway to cut a long story short, I got a two year old which will be running this year. Already entered for a good race in October but hopefully should have a few runs before hand.

Iíve had a lot of stick off my mateís for naming it after my favourite band but at the end of the day itís just a bit of fun, I just hope it wins a few times!!

Nick

Ahhh me and my dad saw your horse in the paper yesterday, we guessed the owner must be a Muse fan
We went to the bookies and placed a bet on him today. Good luck :)

you sir, and your horsies, are awesome

Just another 2 and you'll have the 4 Horses of the Apocalypse Please :D
I'd go with Supermassive Black Horse and This Horse has Stockholm Syndrome (for the announcers)

Also convince one of your jockies (unless theres only 1) to call themselves The Knight of Cydonia

And if you have to/can, brand them with the MUSE logo, tho i dont think they do that with race horses...

ooh ooh and get one in a photoshoot that looks like my pic :D but real life

Well as long as they keep winning I'm gonna keep the Muse theme :-)

Haha not sure about convincing one of the jockeys to call themselves The Knight of Cydonia....... I think they'd send me to the loony house:LOL:

I'd like to think so ..his brother won a Group 3 and Roger Charlton certainly knows the time of day ...he's shown bags of quality so far ...so I'd not be at all surprised to see him in group company before long.
The whole family is tremendous, the dam's latest foal, by Green Desert, is gorgeous!

After a long lay off due to a virus. Supermassive Muse is back in action at Haydock 5pm on Saturday. Horse no. 10 ridden by Graham Gibbons. It's just nice to have him back.

I don't think Starlight Muse will be running for a while. She's had a bit of a setback :(

Aww, what happened?

She just had a bad injury, hopefully on the mend now though :-)

Anyway.

Supermassive Muse is running this Saturday 22nd August 2.25PM at Chester.

If you can get near a TV the race is live on Channel 4 and it is the same race he won last year so everything crossed :-)

Hope he can cap off a great week, just been to Teignmouth and new album on Monday. A win for him would really put the icing on the cake, we can all dream :)

Nick

I tried to name my black horse (who's name is Black Ice... totally original, but it's better than when my brother named his cat "ms. kitty") Muse, and so i was petting him and said
"how would you like to be called Muse?"
and then,,,,,,
He bit me.  :stunned:  :(
