i agree with the lifestyle bits, annoying when you were just trying to fly a jet then you have to park it outside the burger joint just because stomach is rumbling. the story was long and mostly pretty pointless but i thought the size of it was the best thing

I'm pleased that GTA IV is looking to have stellar graphics. The GTA games have always suffered from poor graphics, so this'll be a nice change.

And Saints Row is a fantastic game. I, personally, thought it was better than any GTA (though I suspect IV will tear it to shreds). There are so many things in it that make you think "Why didn't Rockstar do that years ago?" and the online play is very fun if you can get a good little group together.

Well yes, that'd make perfect sense if you hadn't just made a blind assumption. They've stated having problems programming the same game on "two very different platforms." Nothing about either the Playstation or XBox.

How much have you read about Bioshock? When I heard of it, I was stoked cause it was "a spiritual successor to System Shock" so that got my attention. Now that I've seen the gameplay vids and all the stuff they've got, I'm so damn excited ,although I can't even play it with my current machinery! It certainly looks like they've made an effort to make the game world have a real atmosphere and enthralling storyline, which is meant to be quite non-linear and great gameplay.

Of course, you can't be sure until you've played it and I'm quite interested if the AI is going to be as smart as they say it's going to be.

The graphics are average, the framerate is pretty bad, and it's just another game in a series that got old real fast to me.

I don't think that the games have never been about the graphics. It's always had a such a huge world it's bound not to get the top-notch gfx. Still, I think they need to do some radical level design/mission&plot design for it to not feel like same-o-same-o.

Well, it's hardly fun when you can't control anything in a half-way decent manner or if you can't even tell what's going on. The 3D incarnations are much, much better. Never had a problem with the camera at all or the controls or weapons for that matter. All have been quite intuitive if you ask me.

I bought Liberty City Stories on the PSP the other day, and I have to admit, that was quite fun, though I think it's alot to do with the fact that it's a handheld version rather than having to sit infront of a tv and play it.

GTA III Was my fav' out of the 3D ones anyway.

Yeah the original topdown ones were brilliant at the time, but I haven't really gone back to them. Especially the original, after playing GTAII the handling on the first one became inferior and annoying.

I thought San Andreas was great and literally endless fun, I only slightly preferred Vice City for pinkness and all the movie influences. :D

Eating and Gym-ing could be annoying but made sense, the girlfriend thing seemed a bit pointless. I liked the fact that the place was huge and that you met lots of different 'job' characters to involve with.

Vice President of Development for GTAIV, Jeronimo Barrera, has confirmed that the PS3 will likely see its own exclusive episodes for download. It is unclear whether this means that the £25 million Microsoft spent to gain exclusivity for 2 pieces of DLC only secured a timed window of exclusivity, or that the PS3 will simply get exclusive DLC that is completely unrelated to the 360's exclusive DLC, but either way it is good news for those intending to buy the game for the PS3.

But the good news for Sony fans does not stop there, apparently. There are strong indications that Rockstar intends to heavily support the launch of Home, potentially bringing content for customisation (clothes, accessories, room decor, etc), the chance to decorate your place with your GTAIV ingame accomplishments and the ability to stream replays of your GTAIV mayhem through the TVs in your Home space. There is even speculation that this collaboration between Sony and Rockstar will extend further, with Rockstar kickstarting the launch of Sony's new Accomplishments system, the approaching rival to Xbox Live's Achievements.

Microsoft was able to secure a deal with Grand Theft Auto developer Rockstar Games for exclusive downloadable content for the Xbox 360 version of the game, while PlayStation 3 owners will only have access to the material included in the standard release. In an interview with GameDaily, however, Steinberg, Vice President of Marketing at Sony Computer Entertainment America, doesn't think the potential for extra content gives Microsoft a significant advantage.

"(Microsoft) spent the GNP of several small Latin American countries to get that (content), and if you've ever played San Andreas... there's a lot of game to Grand Theft Auto and there's going to be a lot of game to Grand Theft Auto IV to the point where I think most people will have that Grand Theft Auto experience on the PS3, day and date, same core game shipping on the 360."

Steinberg also suggested that Sony could effectively counter Microsoft's downloadable content with its own releases of entirely new games. "Perhaps they'll be shipping some episodic content in the fall, but there is a whole lot of product shipping on the PS3 in April and I personally don't think there's going to be a huge percentage of folks who jump into downloadable content for another price when they're still playing the core product," he said.

"So while I do think having that brand on their system was a move for them which they felt they needed to make because they cut a big check for it," he continued, "I think PlayStation fans know the Grand Theft Auto experience on the PS2 is how they grew up playing Grand Theft Auto, and when you combine GTA IV with MGS 4 and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, all the exclusive content that we've got going forward, I think that goes from tipping point to shoving point for consumers who are on the fence, wondering what platform should I buy."

WEll it's not that I don't care about storylines, but I like them to be more in the background. I play stuff like the Elder Scrolls games, X series, and some roguelikes. Elder Scrolls is great cause the main storylike is there, but if you want you can completely ignore it and still have lots of fun. I like the kinda sandbox-style games I guess. GTA does fall under that but I just never liked the fact that you HAD to do missions, and if you failed, instead of there being a consequence of failing the mission, you just re-do it usually. I remember a few years ago people were saying there'd be no more PC games in a few years because 'people don't play games on PC anymore'.

Honestly though, I am getting sick of seeing cross-platform games that are blatantly built for consoles. Oblivion being a prime example. What a game that could have been, but they pretty much built it for Xbox, and PC users who were expecting an awesome, deep RPG, got a dumbed down, consoley action game.

The elder scrolls games do have great storylines, but that's not really my point. Take Daggerfall for example, there was a huge wilderness and loads of random dungons and towns that have nothing to do with the main storyline. But half of the point of the elder scrolls games is to let the main plot take the backseat and do your own thing. If you simply play through the main plot in Morrowind or Daggerfall you're missing out on an awful lot. It gives the games replayability as well, since you don't have to do the plot over again if you don't want to. In GTA you need to to get access to the whole map (unless you use cheats).

Well, yeah, I do too, but I'm gonna get GTA IV for the 360, and honestly, I doubt I'll feel THAT much of a difference in controls.

Rockstar Games has announced the Rockstar Social Club, which will offer stat-tracking and community features for Grand Theft Auto IV.

The GTA developer is taking a note from Bungie's book and boosting its website with a bevy of stat-tracking software. This information will be viewable to players of Rockstar's releases, starting with Grand Theft Auto IV, at the Rockstar Social Club.

Registration for the Rockstar Social Club begins on April 15th and anyone can sign up with their Xbox Gamertag or a PlayStation Network ID.

The site will launch with multiple "clubs" and GTA-themed leaderboards beyond the expected multiplayer positions.

The Liberty City Police Department Blotter will aggregate data from every online-enabled user to identify criminal activity in the single-player mode to determine the most dangerous areas of the city, most commonly used weapons and more.

"The Story Gang" is a leaderboard that honors player achievements in the single-player storyline, such as total playing time and speed runs. Members of this club will have access to online widgets and merit badges marking their in-game accomplishments.

The 100 percent Club commemorates those who finish the single-player experience with full completion. The first ten winners will be honored with a rare "Key to the City" to mark the accomplishment.

The Hall of Fame features players who top the charts in various areas, including reaching in-game landmarks and winning Social Club-sponsored competitions.

Lastly, the Liberty City Marathon measures milestones for the miles walked, driven, and swam. Other goals include number of bullets fired and stunts jumped. Rockstar plans on organizing "marathon" tournaments online.

from what ive read theres only going to be an offical GTA IV bundle for the PS3. im sure GAME etc will do unofficial bundles.
well if you want to pay £40 for just to go online when you can have net for free..and not to mention with you having a mac its alot harder to get the xbox functions working properly as in transferring files, watching DIVX etc. PS3 was built round using macs so yeah simple choice IMO.

Well San Andreas completely sold out in afew days you couldnt get it anywhere. GTA is fookin massive.

international release, availability of duplication plants (especially blu ray), extra print material and a smaller customer base but almost identical distribution are all things that work against games like this. you don't hear about DVDs & CDs selling out because it's a boring subject & stocks can be replaced very quickly by the big studios

like you say though waiting a few days is hardly going to kill anyone!
