aiii :D I'm one of the biggest Silverchair fans ever. :) I've seen them live once and been a fan for about 4 years now.

I like Somewhere down the Barrel, but the other songs are a little weird. Im not sure... I might buy their album, if it's cheap enough. ;)

Silverchair are my joint favourite band with muse
damn good band, can't work out whether i like neon ballroom or diorama more, both are just pure brilliance, freak show n frogstomp are awesome as well but they are nothing in comparison to the last two.
they are awesome live as well, saw them in london back in june, one o the best things i have ever seen, n live from far away stable is pretty good too but nothin compares to actually being there
somewhere down the barrel is pretty good , but its not silverchair n NEVER WILL BE, tis still good though

Exactly! Neon Ballroom and Diorama are my fave albums too. Neon Ballroom a little more than diorama, but still, both are brilliant. I mean musically and lyrically one of the best things I've ever heard.

And yes, Silverchair live is incredible!! I love their live shows!

Frogstomp, Freak Show and Neon Ballroom were bloody amazing but Diorama is truly awful, The Dissociatives are pretty lame too. I hope Daniel realises that before he starts making more crap like it.

Diorama has some good stuff on, like Greatest View :)
I think Neon Ballroom is the best though.

Well, they havent been doing much lately becasue Daniels been all buggered up, but apparently his arthritis has cleared up enough for him to play for about 2 hours without seizing up. So I dont know about albums, but he might be doing more shows.

he's more or less completely recovered from his arthritis now. they did the international "across the night tour" last year, was damn good saw em in london, i recommend the dvd of the tour to anyone, "live from faraway stables", damn impressive

Probably Silverchair never gonna get back together again? It's always like that, they go solo or start something else and the original never get together again.

And let's also hope that if Silverchair do get back together then they won't suck as much as Diorama and The Dissociatives do. I hope Daniel realises how much it sucks before it's too late. Neon Ballroom was so promising for an amazing future then they fucked it up and turned into Pop/Radio friendly/Corporate ass-kiss band.

I was just wondering. Silverchair is my other fave band next to muse. And I can see simalarities between the bands. I know there are ppl that like silverchair's earlier stuff, but many believe that their newer stuff is weak, I think it is beautiful, they have created some awesome rock opra songs, and i love the way how daniel johns lives his music, much like matthew bellamy. Really u can pull out some obvious simalarities between the band:

3 members: [lead vocals and gtr and piano]
[bass gtr backing vocals]
[drums]
all the same
both creat theatrical music, both absolutley rock (in my opinion)

rock on muse and silverchair, may u bands continue to create magnificent music.

January 9, 2005
The Sun-Herald

Another huge concert to raise funds for tsunami victims is being planned for January 29, three days after Sydney's Big Day Out.

Instigated by artists such as Powderfinger and the John Butler Trio, and tentatively dubbed Wave Aid, the gig is expected to attract more than 30,000 fans to an outdoor show likely to be in the Moore Park precinct. The concert is being organised by music industry heavyweights, promoter Michael Chugg, ARIA events producer Mark Pope and Homebake organiser Joe Segreto, who, with their expertise, quickly pulled together a large-scale show.

Tickets for the 10-act show are expected to go on sale on Friday and they are $55 dollars.

i also found out a official announcment is tommorrow (wednesday) and it will be held in the Moore Park precinct.

I really really miss the chair, it's nbeen gettin to me a lot lately! but aparently, there is good news in the mist!

according to other fans who recieve the LAS newsletter (Llama appreciation society (the chairs fanclub)) Daniel Johns has started recording demos for the next possible chair album!

I so hope that these demos are in fact for silverchair and not the dissociatives, I love both bands, but the chair is definitely due for a come back, it's been almost 4 years since the release od diorama, and is about time!

bring back the chair!

*edit!!!!!!!!

My dad just informed me that he heard an interview on the radio of paul mac!

Oh my gosh! the next couple of years are goin to be sweet! this will bring out a tour! and then theres the next muse album as well that will also bring out another tour from them! i can't wait! the future is bright! and I'mn gonna enjoy every second of it!!!!!

Once upon a time Silverchair were my favourite band. I have some really great rarities of theirs and was madly in love with Daniel Johns. He actually reminds me a bit of Matt Bellamy, so fragile looking. I think its fair to say emotion sickness is one of the greatest songs ever written.

Ok i'm soooo hyped now!!!!!! as of announced like 5 mins ago!!!!!!!!

November 18, 2005

Silverchair have confirmed rumours that they are currently making music together in regional New South Wales. The band has also announced that they plan to record a new album and do at least a few gigs during 2006.

The trio has sold more than six million albums during the last ten years. Their most recent CD - 2002’s “Diorama” - was their most acclaimed and their highest seller in Australia to date.

Following their sold out “Across The Night Tour” in 2003, Silverchair took an extended break and worked on other projects before coming together again early this year for the “Waveaid” tsunami benefit concert in Sydney.

“Waveaid was an amazing experience and it was really the catalyst that made us all want to start making music together again” says Silverchair frontman Daniel Johns. “We’re totally enjoying playing together at the moment. We’re looking forward to eventually doing some gigs to try out the new songs and to then hopefully making a new album.”

The group is currently working up lots of new material which has been written over the last two years. They plan to take a short break over Christmas and then do more rehearsals through early 2006. Following this they will ‘road test’ some of the new music by doing a few Australian shows. The first of these to be announced is a special appearance in Adelaide on Friday March 24 during the Clipsal 500 event. More information about another show or two will be released over coming months.

Providing all goes well with these very select dates the band will then start recording their new album around next May. It will probably be released in late 2006 or early 2007 and more extensive touring is penciled thereafter.

Since 2003 Silverchair have denied several inaccurate media reports which claimed that the band had split up. This announcement will hopefully put that issue to rest.

All ticketing information for the Clipsal 500 can be found here.

Rumours confirmed. Silverchair will perform as part of a ground breaking Festival called "The Great Escape" over the 2006 Easter long weekend.

“The Great Escape” offers three days of non-stop music, arts, markets, comedy, film and loads of camping at another character-rich location: the Newington Armory, which is a former armaments depot. Just up the river from Cockatoo Island and located in the heart of Sydney, the Newington Armory is a 90 acre riverfront site with more than 95 heritage buildings.

“The Great Escape” http://www.thegreatescape.net.au/will transform the Armory as dozens of musicians and artists awaken the historic site under the Easter full moon. Additional to Silverchair the line-up includes Donavon Frankenreiter, Eskimo Joe, Something For Kate and Paulmac plus many more. More local and international acts are yet to be announced.

As a reward to loyal Silverchair fans and LAS members tickets to this special event will go on sale at 10am, Thursday December 22. This is 24 hours before tickets go on sale to the general public. For more information check out the chairpage Tour section.

I seriously can't wait for this! i get my tickets on sydney!!!!

Just got into Silverchair recently. For some reason, though I'd heard of the name, I wasn't familiar with any of their songs (they probably don't air much in France, my country). But a friend told me "you might like this", so I gave it a listen. And man, was I blasted away.
I recently got "Life from the faraway stables", and it's such a good performance. good? No, awesome, great, absof**ly splendid I'm lost for words.
Daniel Johns' voice is amazing, the show was amazing, the new stuff (Diorama mainly) is to die for.. and the rest is just pure rock/grunge happiness.
Anyway, just wanted to add my two cents :)
they're releasing a new album this year, from what I've heard, and I can't wait! I hope they'll be touring in Europe too.

I've decided to bring this thread to life, because Silverchair has a special place in my heart for some personal reasons...
http://www.chairpage.com/photos/nonlive/group/neonballroom/bandneon72.jpg
“No matter what people have got going on in their lives, hopefully when they play this album it will make them forget about everyday stuff. When music does that it’s magical and, for me, that’s what “Diorama” is about”, says Silverchair’s Daniel Johns (singer/guitarist).
...and that's how their music works:happy:
I could say much more, but better if I'll save you from my bad english:$
Hope some of you feel the same about silverchair as me..so maybe you'll say what I wasn't able to express with the words (in english, lol)

Tell what/how they feel while listening to Silverchair, why do you like/ dislike them..anything what you want, really :)

Luv Your Life

Thrust the candle to the dark of your disease
Burn the fishplate execute ill memories
Labyrinth of sympathy in which I'm lost and can't leave
And too much truth overshadows the lime lies
And what lies beneath the clouds is an
Altered perception and I'll pay for sanity
But sanity don't come cheap

You don't know the truth and I love your life
Flinch against the fire but this ain't winter
And I'm all by myself the way I wanna be
Where I'm content to be to be all by myself
But frozen eyes are bound to melt.

Thank you...I couldn't find it
I've been seaching for 'Silverchair' threat, but probably I've missed it or something. :S

Every Silverchair album is a bit different. Probably that's because Daniel Johns is a very sensitive guy and his music is reflection of his soul and things what are going on 'inside him'.
My favourite Silverchair album is "Neon Ballroom", that's because Daniel and I had a very serious eating disorders... and the songs on this album present the worst period of his anorexia. It helped me to understand my emotions and at the same time I knew I wasn't alone with my pain and fears... so "Neon Ballroom" is a very emotional and 'deep' album.

"Diorama" is the first album after Daniel won his battle with his demos...and this album is more reflective..about the life and things like that...

However all of their albums are just awesome:happy:
I think you should just check them all by yourself to see how you'll feel about them.

They have a very well done website http://www.chairpage.com/flash.htm

I'm listening to The Best Of Vol. 1 at the moment.

I prefer the version of Anthem on Neon Ballroom myself. I still like the one on best of, but the echo/production on it makes it less good imo.

We-Silverchair Fans- are like that, lol
Life isn't about hurting people's feelings...we should treat them like they were a part of our body.

Yeah, I agree! Silverchair music keeps transforming altogether with Daniel.
Daniel has some kind of amazing skill, which let him to reflect his emotiomal state into lyrics and music...and everyone who is listening to it starts feeling the same and knows exactly what Daniel meant.
When I've heard Silverchair for the first time and when I've bought their albums I didn't know English at all...but I felt like I understand what he's singing about...
When I've bought "Neon Ballroom" and I've put it on ...I've started crying..then "Anthem for the year 2000" gave me some kind of rebelious energy...lol...It was easy to feel the emotional battle Daniel had with his demons
... and "Ana's song" describes exactly what anorexia is... however no-one, who have never had anorexia, will know how it really feels< lucky them :(

Well Diorama doesn't sound like the post-grunge sound they have on Frogstomp and Freakshow. It's more of songs like Ana's Song.

Diorama is awesome.

SILVERCHAIR: Quite possibly the worst grunge band ever.

An utter joke just to remind us that back in the mid 90's record companies would sign any band that carbon copies Nirvana and Pearl Jam bass riffs, writes depressing self-insulting lyrics, and shows some freaky CD cover artwork displaying mutilated, deformed ugly animals and sometimes children too.

Makes me thankful that it's not 1996 anymore.

Apparantly 'If You Keep Losing Sleep' was written after Daniel Johns stayed awake for 51 hours, in which time he wrote the lyrics and quite a bit of the music. The most bizarre moments of the song were written towards the end of those 51 hours. As soon as he was content with what he had so far, he fell asleep in the studio  what a lovable loser. Why didn't they have that in the video diaries!?!

I wouldn't call them 'grunge' anymore. They stopped being grunge back in '97. They wrote the majority of Frogstomp when they were 14, and were heavily influenced by the grunge scene at the time, so of course those influences were bound to rub off on the record. But think about it - 14 years old, and my God, what a voice Daniel has. True, Frogstomp may not have been truly original, but the musical progression with each Silverchair album proves they are no 'one hit wonders', and are ever surpassing a lot of peoples expectations...I wonder how many more leaps forward they can take? Truly astounding. I've not heard Young Modern in full, so I am sticking with Diorama as being my favourite Silverchair album. The most epic musical experience I've ever heard...and wait...not an ounce of grunge!

i love young modern, if you keep losing sleep (i'm ALWAYS humming it), reflections of a sound, insomnia, all around the world.

tuna in the brine,
luv your life,
all across the world,
reflections of sound, straight lines,
the greatest view, emotion sickness,
without you,

mind reader,

I love their old stuff just as much as the next 'Chair fan - but you can't expect them to go back to the days when they were 15!! It would sound passion-less now, seeing as they are no longer influenced by the 'grunge' scene. I'm with their new direction 100% - I think Daniel especially has grown into an exceptionally talented songwriter and musician.

yeh i had heard a few songs on triple j but turns out i knew heaps more songs than i thought i did, it was like 'omg i love this song but never knew who it was by' for most songs :p
and aparently my old guitar teacher's band (ned collet he had a song that was on triple j a few times) toured with them and i thought they were kinda similar, check out citycitycity if u like dappled cities

I wasn't too familiar with Silverchair before last weekend. My roommate has loved them since she was nine and our friends' band was opening for them so we decided to go to three shows. After the first night I was a huge fan. Spent the next two rocking out up front with my friend. I can't believe it took me this long to get into them, but better late than never.

Do any Muse fans still listen to Silverchair (post late 90s Silverchair, not Frogstomp :p)???
because there are a whole lot of Chair fans that love Muse....

I know. I'm on a huge Silverchair binge right now. I think he was fucking BEAUTIFUL when he was younger. In the Open Fire vid when he's looking up and then starts looking forward it just kills me.

emotion sickness live in sau paulo ,where he sings real high, that is the definition of epicness that song.. their was a article on him in the west australian newspaper not long ago about how he's like some musical genius
" when he's not drafting poems or scribbling caricatures,he's alone at home with his dog creating compositions involving 80-piece orchestra's so complex they baffle musicians as diverse as WA's david helfgott and electronic music guru paul mac"

Thought I'd revive this ol' thread seeing as the wonderful Silverchair are back in the studio! I soooooo hope that the new album is amazing, because, although I really do like Young Modern, it was nothing compared to Neon Ballroom and my personal favourite album of all time ever, Diorama. Appaz there's a lot more synthy stuff going on, so let's hope they don't do an Editors and become......well, shit.

Old live silverchair videos on youtube are grand. Also I think Daniel looks more attractive being lankier than the opposite he's gone for with the built up mega look recently.

Diorama is amazing, truely. I found Young Modern too lightweight, maybe that was just me. And Daniel should grow his hair again!

Anyone else just want this new album out already? I don't make Google Alerts ever but I have for Silverchair now  I'm getting hella impatient, especially after seeing the live vids of 2 of their new songs.

Also awaiting any UK tour details also, as they are first on my list of bands to see live, because I've been too busy the last 2 times they've come over :(

man, you guys have had a drought of silverchair news

They played 6 shows in may, debuted 2 songs 'Machina Collecta' and '16'
and at the moment the 6th album is unamed and undated.
There is really no news in silverchair land
but here is a summary of 2010 for silverchair, its worth the watch if you want to hear the New sounds.
