this has most definately been posted before but i did search and found nothing.
Seeing as it was Dom's birthday yesterday i thought we should commemorate his uber talentedness by asking: what's your favourite drumming 'sequence' in a muse song?
im stuck on this one. i really love the drumming on MOTP. and Invincible. But also New Born. and Hoodoo. and B&H.

Bless him and his white, white teeth!
I maintain that I like the drumming on hysteria the best. I don't know ANYTHING about drumming, so don't anyone jump on me and go "zomg a 2 year old monkey could play that" but I just love 'em on hysteria. It has a sort of dragging quality which makes you want to strut and dance about a bit.
Posting this made me listen to hysteria, and since I'm home alone I got up and did a little dance.
I like the drums on all muse songs tbh - there's never a time where sloppy/dull drumming ruins the whole song - like some bands manage to.

Assassin way in the lead, i should have made a poll really... but then i wouldn't have got every song into it, and wouldn't have known everyone's opinions.
PS i actually think the drumming on stralight is really effective too, it's all just ace

'THAT drum fill' seems pretty damn powerful on this thread though! i honestly didnt expect assassin to take the lead. although i didnt have any expectations of what people thought, hence me starting the thread hehe!
stockholm drumming during the verses is what gets me! its brill! ahh just the whole flippin thing really! :)

yeah - it is very difficult and is much more difficult than stockholm - and so thats why its getting the votes.
I prefer stockholm personally.
Bit like having a go kart with a ferrari engine in it (Assassin)
or a Lotus Elise (stockholm)
Yeah the gokart will go faster - but your sitting on a block of wood.

Realy love Assassin, but also adore the beginning and all the subtle little bits in Endlessly. Also really admire Fillip, because for the life of me I can't get the right beat when Matt starts singing - don't know how Dom does it!!! He really is a superb drummer, not only on recordings but more importantly, live. Not a beat wrong at MEN!

Haha join the club! All my childhood I wanted a kit. I resorted to making one out of Knex, boxes, tape and tinfoil (for the cymbals) :D

Reviving an old thread, bwahahaha...
I really like the drumming on Minimum, a little riff thingy they played in between Unintended and Showbiz during Glasto 99.
I also like the drumming in this live version of Assassin (attached), mostly the intro.
Question: Does Dom use double bass? Not sure but I think I've hard it in Glorious. But then again, I'm a drum noob, so not sure.

Why has nobody metioned City of Delusion?!?!
I am no drummer, it might not be hard, but there are so many cross rhythms at the start of it, and it's funky as fuck.
Also, KoC fills, and Darkshines drumming kicks ass.....well on Hullabaloo at least.

Im not listening now - im busy - but as far as im aware it's him playing.

EDIT:
Listened....and theres nothing THAT difficult about it...it's just lots of drags...
You can tell the difference between digital drums and real mic'd up drums-mainly down to the cymbals.
The cymbals are resonating in a way that real cymbals do - you can also hear the stick definition on the ride cymbal and the different pitches used.

It just sounds like the drum beats are too close together, almost like they overlap each other. I used to have a little toy keyboard thing and you could press buttons to make sounds, and when you pressed two different buttons quickly it would sound like that.

'ish' lol. i'l see if i can add in a poll altho i doubt i can.
OHH and eternally missed drumming is pretty fecking cool. it sounds reeeeally hard to master, altho i am a drum noob at the mo. baby steps lol. ;)

Crying Shame has a good beat.
I prefer the earlier version of that. It was failry similar to stockholm. Lots of constant bass - funky 'all over the toms' part and really good buildups.
I also prefer the earlier version of assassin. (the Debase version) I though the verse beat used in that was really good.
But I do love the studio versions...theyre much harder :D

theres loads of heavy metallers who play really really fast.....but every song has the same beat (and they cheat with a double pedal ;))
theres punk rockers who try and be all over the place and original (Travis Barker) but it sounds a mess....

he does it the way it should be done.... inventively and with lots of aggro! I don't like double pedal metalers, it sounds shite and, as you say, always the same. It's the greatest. :D
this has most definately been posted before but i did search and found nothing.
Seeing as it was Dom's birthday yesterday i thought we should commemorate his uber talentedness by asking: what's your favourite drumming 'sequence' in a muse song?
im stuck on this one. i really love the drumming on MOTP. and Invincible. But also New Born. and Hoodoo. and B&H.
see, told u i was stuck!!
Muscle Museum, Probably because its one of the few tracks where drums are actually audable enought to be appreciated!

It's ace. And it's also actually rather complicated.. not that Dom's drumming is all that simplistic but it's trickier than most.
Crying Shame drums are fun, not the best imo but definitely good.. I like the early drumming for it, but I think I prefer the studio version. Both work well but there's a certain energy to the studio one that I love!

ooh thankers! I must not have looked hard enough for it on muselive, there's too many UK files lol. I've only got a handful of decent recordings of Wembley overall :( oh well, that's what the DVD is for..whenever they finally decide to release it!

hah,,drums dat dom has played in every songs are awsome..
TBH, the drumming to every song is better live. Especially Muse as a whole, 'cos they're such a good live band. Anywho... this thread is too generalised, does it mean on a record or live? :p Heee. Doesn't matter really 'cos his drumming is awesome, nevertheless.
