Didn't see a thread on this show, so I figured I'd start one.

The basic plot is that Dexter Morgan (played by Michael C. Hall from Six Feet Under) is a forensics expert for the Miami Police Department. He's also a serial killer.

It airs on Showtime (*coughortorrentscough*) so all the gore and naughty language and such aren't watered down.

I highly recommend it. Especially if you like crime/police/serial killer type shows, but (like me) are bored by all the cliched ones out there.

:yesey: I just started watching this last night (like a lot of people in the UK i imagine) and so far i am rly liking it. I had seen a few clips before and recognised them from last night's episode eg. that black guy Sgt Doakes who seems to rly have it in for Dexter - he just makes me laugh though, he seems like a complete asshole! Which leads me onto my fave line from last night's eppie: Sgt Doakes: "You give me the fucking creeps, you know that Dexter?" Dexter: "Yeh, i know. Sorry about that."

So yeh, i'll defo be watching this again :D

Yeah, big surprise.

I prefer the books too, although the third one was quite a bit different compared to the first two, but I think overall I liked it.

I thought the second season was pretty good, and for the most part was even better than season one, which I think was mainly due to Michael C. Hall being AWESOME throughout. The only thing that was a little weak in my mind was how they wrapped things up, but you can't always get what you want. :p

I'm just done watching the second season, and I'm not sure what to make of it.

I thought it was too dark and too serious, starting at the point where Doakes caught Dexter. I was hoping there might be some kind of "diplomatic" way to end the plot, with Doakes fleeing to Cuba or somewhere or him suffering from sudden Amnesia etc., but never did he deserve to end like that :(

Also, I didn't like the idea of Dexter being that much into sex and all that, but maybe I'm too biased due to reading the books first.

Poor Doakes :(

I hope that they've either looked into the books for inspiration or had better ideas than for season 2. They had too much sex in season 2, Dexter isn't supposed to be interested in that. Finally finished catching up to the end of season 3 (is there anything better than on demand - in HD no less?).

Really, really liked this season, moreso than either of the first two seasons - primarily because they explored some of the other characters a little more in some interesting ways, and also because Dex had some of his best tongue-in-cheek moments of the series. Jimmy Smits was great as Miguel Prado, doing a great job opposite Michael C. Hall which is no easy feat.

All they need to do is start having 52-episode seasons and I'll be as happy as I can be with the show. :D

I guess Michael C. Hall married the actress who plays Deb on Dexter, and my first reaction was:  cuz I'm used to them being siblings

I know. For a couple of eps whenever they were in a scene together I'd start thinking, "Eew. You're brother and sister now, but after filming this you went home and did the nasty."

Second season is only just beginning to air on free-to-air TV here now. I don't really want to buy the box set. I want to stretch it out. Then buy the box set and watch it straight from start til finish

Season 1 was great as you were introduced to Dexter and his dilemmas. Season 2 saw him having conflicting psychological problems. Season 3 was just awesome too. Don't wan't to spoil it really.

:awesome:

S1 finale spoilerism

The death scene was real intense, him leaning head to head to his brother, you kinda get why he killed him, but at the same time it made you sad because he found someone, a blood relative that got him. But yet he couldn't just 'be' with him.

omg thank god there is a thread i was about to start one and do some major spaffage:LOL: but luckily i thought first and searched:happy:

I can't believe I just NOW got into this series....I mean wtf steph it's been around for a few years now and I had heard of the show I just never made it a priority to watch it. But WOWWWW it's so good...Michael C. Hall is perfect as Dexter and the plot twists are mindblowing. I was able to watch the entire first season for free on demand, and I broke down and paid for the entire 2nd season on Amazon (which I only have 3 episodes left!!) And when I'm done with that I'll buy the 3rd season and probably finish that in about a day/day and a half:LOL:

/endnolife

but srsly.....I am already excited for the 4th season of Dexter starting in September. I've never been one to get really hooked on TV series, but this is the kind of stuff I'm into....If it wasn't for ID Discovery (Most Evil is where it's at), National Geographic, and occasionally The Discovery Channel....I wouldn't even watch TV.

Whew it felt so good to say that haha

I find the novels incredibly funny. They're very light-hearted, the writing style is really amusing. BUT in case you start reading the first book, don't put it away if you don't like it after the first couple of pages. It takes a tiny little while until things start happening and stuff ;)

It was inevitable though, he didn't want to lose his cover after all. Serial killers are usually single males, so being a married man with kids makes him pretty unsuspicious. I'd say it became a bit more evident in the book(s) though.

Most people seem to jump back to season 1 but I think it is because it was the first killer and the idea was in some words fresh and you've seen plenty more killers up till now. I think Trinity is the best killer as he is exactly like Dexter. He has a family and he hides his killings, plus spans over 30 years! Jon Lithgow is such an underrated actor, he can turn from the nicest guy in the world to a complete mad man in a matter of seconds. Surely you noticed when they went for a trip Trinity was all off but suddenly he just snapped into this jolly guy.
Maybe its me because I loved Jon on 3rd rock and he played such a likeable character..at times that likeable character shines through and then when he turns into the killer it turns my stomach.

Aye it was fresh in the first season but since then no other villain has been as captivating as brian was. I did like Lila to begin with then she was a bit too mental for me, while Migiul was a bit lame for a baddie in my opinion.

It was kinda heading in that direction when Debs found out Christine might have shot her. I was thinking it somewhere in the back of my head when Quinn left her appartment at the end, but was still properly shocked when it turned out to be true

Wonder what's going to happen between Arthur and Dexter now

I kinda guessed that Christine shot debs and lundy the moment they realised it wasn't trinity. But FUCK ME epd 9 was amazing. It was such a slow moving season and it just went whoooshhh. Seeing Dexter uber mad in the car was also enlightening too.

I am PUMPED for epd10.

omigawd ep 10 is, again, WIN!!!

I love to see Christine frustrated
But Arthur, how fucked up is he really? I thought we already knew, and then come the cellar and the trains... WTF!

Also, it's pretty cool to see Dexter all worked up about something, makes him look like a big ol' fluffy good-guy - who just happens to like killing people.

Cannot wait until the next ep!!! Only two more... :(

Also, based upon the sneakpeaks, I think Christine is going to shoot herself. Possibly to keep her daddy out of prison, but that will only be a good thing . Anyone else?

Well I think it'll be down to whether a race to who can catch Arthur. I'm assuming Deb will be on the tail as they've caught Christine and Dexter will be following him as well.. Could be another case of Dexter getting there before the police again but I'm hoping they have another twist.

I'm hoping he finds out about rita's thing soon. Do you think she wanted to smooch cause she let that dude smooch for a bit first before she was all o noes I'm with dexter!

I must say it was getting well cheesy at the end of epd 10 with the whole crying out name thing in rage.

That's why I'm thinking Christine is going to shoot herself, so she won't be tempted to tell the police why she shot Lundi (:supersad:) and Debs and betray her father

I think that Rita kinda realizes that it's not quite right that Dexter doesn't come home until late and sometimes sneaks out, but she just doesn't want to give in. And of course now she's guilty with having made out with another guy so she just forgets everything to please him blah blahblah.

I think it could come down to a choice where Dexter either has to choose killing or his family as I'm sure the whole kissing thing will come out sooner or later and then she'll go off on one at Dexter.

Wow! What a cliffhanger! Insane, them head in head in public ground. I can't wait for the finale now! One long term killer to another!

I also loved the bit where dexter punched elliot, I knew it was going to happen and it kinda shows that he has a bit of emotion in him about rita.

Well Debs still had stuff there so it's probably not that hard to find out from her stuff. She probably has some kind of address book. I dunno if the baby in the blood was just a coincidence or if Trinity read the old case files she had while looking for her Moser and thought it would be fitting for Dex.

I doubt there would be any repercussions on Dex for it being a Trinity kill. They'd know it was Trinity but there's other possible loose ends that seem to get brushed aside (surely Trinity's family would be like 'where's Kyle Butler' and at some point they'd be likely to recognise Dexter). Plus some people could possibly remember Trinity being in the police station, which could indicate Trinity was eyeing up Dex's family as the next kill, I don't really see that having major repercussions.

I think there will be problems. Okay, it's obvious Quinns is gonna be Doakes v.2, but there's too many loose ends not tied up. Also, when Arthur was in the police station, they bothered to slow-mo the scene where Batista walks besides them, looking directly at Arthur.

There will be problems and I think Quinn will get help inside the department to get Dex at some point (possibly even from Deb).

Yeah the Batista thing was the one that got me the most, but he should have totally recognised Arthur once they had his pic and he didn't. Can't believe he's be so sloppy, but I can't see such a small thing coming back. There are a lot of loose ends but Dexter's always good at tying them off.

Aww I miss Doakes. :(
