Heavy Rocking, extremely loud and very cool manchester three piece. Theyre the closest thing you're going to find to muse because the songs are so huge with big mad sprawling guitar solos. If you havent heard them yet, check out the singles "the consultancy" and "neon" or get this download of album track "One Great Summer" http://www.nme.com/features/108341.htm (http://)
The Album is out this monday, I'll definitely be getting it

I've only heard 'Neon' but from that track alone they sound pretty fuckin' cool. They've got a nice big sound for a three piece.

I heard of them a little bit late, but I like their spheric sound!! I would recommend POST ACID YOUTH, NEON, ON/OFF and THE CONSULTANCY..
I didn`t like PANZER..
By the way have you heard then anything of Oeansize?

i've never listened to one of their songs...
but a band who says stuff in interviews like "we are convinced that we can get better than Muse..." isn't the kind of band i'd like to listen to then ...

25-07-2004, 07:13 PM
Why, surely you don't think that Muse are the pinnacle of all music past, future and present? Maybe Amplifier will get better than them, maybe not, but if you like the music then it shouldn't really matter what the actual members of the band are like. Most people think Matt Bellamy's a tosser, but they still buy his music.

What interview was that?
Album is good, quite technical in places.
Their appeal is probably pretty limited though, they would never get as big as Muse. Not bad though!

see, how can a thread for one of the greatest new bands in britain have only 17 posts in over a year! Amplifier deserve much more attention and I think the full length album they make after the excellent new ep they just released will really be the making of them. While the mars volta keep getting weirder, radiohead keep taking too long to record etc. now is the time for bands like amplifier to steal in and take over. they have the songs, they have the live shows, they just need the attention

Hmm, I'd love it if they took a more progressive direction. At the moment they are more of a post-rock sorta thing.
But mix them with a bit of The Mars Volta and a bit of Dream Theater and they would be just immense.

I saw these at DOwnload earlier in the year and to be honest I wasn't paying attention, and dashed off to see Suns of the Tundra as soon as I realised who they were, but I just downloaded "Amplifier" and "Insider" after seeing a lot of buzz on this board and holy fucking shit, this band is incredible.
At times they remind me of Kyuss, at others Porcupine Tree (the singer sounds quite a bit like Steve Wilson a lot of the time) and a lot of other influences are evident, but not obvious.
I feel like such a twat for not giving them a chance before.

Aye, I first heard them late 2003 and had some stuff downloaded, thought they were ok, loved some tacks, but felt so so about the others. I eventually got hold of the album by the end of 2004 (took me long enough *headdesk*) and after quite a few listen it then sort of 'clicked'. There's the tracks that grab you first time, then there's the growers...

Ooo Clungey McClunge. Do you have the limited edition version of the debut? (not the re-released bonus disc one, the first digipack one with the couple of extra tracks). I only have the normal bog standard version as I asked for it for a chrimbo present years back and my parents got me the wrong one :indiff: Are the extra tracks/interlude things any good (probably a silly question)? I've been thinking of trying to get one off ebay or something if it's worth it.

Yup, I've got every single item teh Amp have released  .
The only two extra tracks are Drawing No.1 and Drawing No.2 and aren't really worth getting, they're just interludes like The Brain Room on HAL.

I want to see teh amp again :'(
I would be very pleased to have see them even once, but I believe they're unlikely to tour over here any time soon! I think a new album is in the works for this summer...possibly a tour abroad sometime next year...one can hope!
I want to thank you all here for introducing me to Amplifier! I was quite unaware of them until I looked at this thread some days ago--I have found the Hal EP at my local CD exchange but have had to order the Insider record. It appears the debut album is not to be had for love or money so far...I will continue the search, I have infinite patience!

You can easily get their debut album off eBay ;) .
And make sure you do, it is considerably better than HAL and Insider, not that those two aren't awesome enough as it is  .

Thank you so much for the suggestion, Clunge! I shall try that at once--and on ebay the record's unlikely to be exy, unlike the cash I shelled out for the Hal EP!
Have you heard whether a third record is in the works for this summer or possibly autumn?

Update from Sel (vocals/guitar):
Some of you may be wondering what we're up to...
Basically, we're writing new matrial - but we decided not to be in too much of a hurry in getting it together. One thing we've noticed is that when you have to start doing stuff because other people are waiting for it, and are generally in some kind of extreme rush to have it, it begins to be no fun for us - so we've decided to jst do stuff for ourselves, and in our own time for once.
That might be a little while. I'll cautiously give us 9 months or so - to get the best of it all sorted out.
Hopefully we'll start doing some shows in October or November to roadtest new stuff - but there's no proper plan - apart from have fun....
In the meantime, enjoy the summer - be sure to get the new Oceansize album when it comes out - I was privileged enough to be there when they were putting some of it down, and i thought it was astonishing.
And so to work...
x
Woo!

Bah, Amplifier dissapoint me. The more I listen to it, the more samey it sounds. Not enough variety. Still a great band I'd recommend though.
Considering how friendly Oceansize/Amplifier are, hopefully we'll see them tour together one day. Now that would be a great show. :D

I found the sameynes an obstacle when I was getting into Amp, but once you get over that, you start to pick out all the little intricacies of each song which really keep them fresh.
The riff in the middle of Post Acid Youth for example . Pure feel good choonage.

But Amplifier played so well.
They played an extra song (Glory Electricity) and then they wrecked Matt's drum kit. haha.

So, that shall be brilliant.
And they are going to take their time on making this new album.

Amplifier are playing the London Barfly on October 27th with Breed 77, as part of the BBC electric proms!
It's only tenner, but Amplifier are only on for 30 minutes :( And from what I can remember of Breed 77, I didn't really like them, so I'm debating whether it's worth going to or not.
Mmmmm new album in progress

Hmm, strangely, even after so long in the studio, album #3 isn't sue according to them until late '08. They're recording two albums y'see in tandem, release one, tour it, release the second, tour it. That's the plan.
