Yeah, I just started listening to Veckatimest a week or two ago. Absolutely fantastic. Two Weeks, While You Wait For The Others, Southern Point, Fine For Now, I Live With You... fantastic. I'll have to get Yellow House now.

I hadn't listened properly to 'Yellow House' but 'Veckatimest' is really good

Saw them tonight. They put on a pretty good show, in the sense that their live performances are pretty true to their recordings. They don't have much stage presence though, so after awhile I got kind of bored. I'm not sure if I'd see them again or not.

I really enjoyed the band that opened for them though!

Ghosty Ghost
08-06-2009, 06:54 AM
I'm jealous, I would pay good money to see them if they came here. Setlist?

Wendigo
08-06-2009, 07:08 AM
Here you go:

1.Southern Point
2.Cheerleader
3.Lullaby
4.Little Brother
5.Knife
6.Fix It
7.Colorado
8.Service Bell (w/Feist)
9.Two Weeks (w/Feist)
10.Ready, Able
11.Fine For Now
12.While You Wait For The Others
13.I Live With You
14.On a Neck, On a Spit

Encore:
15.He Hit Me

I didn't know the chick singing was Feist, but as a recall her performance was kind of underwhelming. 15 songs is kind of weak too, but whatevz. I was pleased they did On a Neck, On a Spit.

Ghosty Ghost
08-06-2009, 07:13 AM
Cool, good to see Lullaby in there, though it could probably do with Easier and Dory in my opinion. And yeah, On A Neck is a hell of a song.

I think I'm alone in the assessment of the concert. Other people who went absolutely loved it. Maybe the fact that it was so hot and I ended up feeling sick and dizzy just tainted the experience for me.

Wendigo
08-06-2009, 07:14 AM
Also, the guy standing in front of me had a massive pumpkin head so I couldn't even see the whole stage most of the time.

Ghosty Ghost
08-06-2009, 07:15 AM
I know that feeling at gigs, man is it ever a pain (EDIT: the dizziness and the fathead). I can totally imagine them being underwhelming in terms of stage presence though, so I don't really doubt your judgement here.

I know their music isn't all that comparable (although funnily enough Grizzly Bear opened for them at this very show) but when I went to see THIS band, even on a fairly quiet song like this, at least you can tell some of the members are into their own music:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UawEB1kKPrU&feature=related

That was the best show I've ever been to. All he had to do to show he was into the song was wag his scrawny head around!

I think Grizzly Bear need to work on that, and then they'll be a great act to go see. They're make great music, but seeing them was like watching a talented college band play.

Cool, that made for some lovely dinnertime entertainment. Good quality on the second one, and I like the lighting in Two Weeks.

I've never seen Radiohead live either, I'm pretty sure they haven't been to my country since the OK Computer tour.

Ghosty Ghost

They sometimes do, but generally only Auckland and sometimes Wellington. Being that I have only been working full time since the start of the year, I've not often been able to afford to travel when good bands do come. Woe is me.

I really like the song they've composed for 'Dark Was the Night'; it's called 'Deep Blue See'

Ghosty Ghost
26-06-2009, 11:55 PM
Technically they didn't compose it for DWTN, it was on their Friend EP in 2007 and had supposedly been in Daniel Rossen's repertoire for a few years before that. But yeah it's a nice song

The more you know :)

ohh i'm so glad this thread is being revived. expanding_universe gave me Yellow House in 2005 i think. I've listened to it at least once a week ever since. How many bands can you say that about?

I think I love this new one even more though. I dont know ANY song titles because I just play it over and over in my stereo in my room. But fuck. the second last song? something about it is just so moving.

OH AND OREN! grizzly bear are coming to aus for falls fest - maybe they'll go to new zealand?

Ghosty Ghost
09-09-2009, 07:14 AM
That's intriguing. I read an interview a while back where Ed said they were going to tour Australia and New Zealand in the winter (ie our summer) so I thought maybe BDO. I flipping hope they come here at any rate!

Pretty much agree with you on both the albums. Yellow House has great replayability but Veckatimest is just something else. I think I've listened to it about once a day since it came out. I like AAAALLLLLLLLLL of it so much!

Over here, Foreground (the last song on the new album, piano one) is on a TV ad for Starship Children's Hospital and it's soooooo sad.

:D me too!

:D It's not even about the songs [for me] as much as it is the production. Veckatimest is fantastic for those times where one needs dreamy music, but that's just about the only time I can listen to it and enjoy it proper. Yellow House is much more universal overall while retaining their sound musically.

Yeah they are Jonny's favourite band, I see why. They're really quite unusual actually. I don't think of them as indie at all; I don't generally like indie. I think of bands like The Strokes as indie. And I don't like them much.

Irony

–adjective
1.
containing or exemplifying irony: an ironic novel; an ironic remark.
2.
ironical.
3.
coincidental; unexpected: It was ironic that I was seated next to my ex-husband at the dinner.

or.. "It was ironic that there were rainbows at a show during Radiohead's 'In Rainbows' tour."

Ya feel me?
