Last year from a distance, I tried but it was about 40 degrees so after 3 songs I ran back to the shadows so that doesn't count. And when he came back over here everyone whom I'd told to go went except for me because I was broke and then they came back with great stories. :'(
But I bet you've seen him before. I haven't. :(
I haven't seen him either. fiona told me about him about a month ago and I downloaded his album...and bought a ticket for his gig.
Once I get going with my job, I'll buy the proper version of the album, the list of "I want" CDs is getting ever bigger.

hah i had my mp3 player on random when i was walking home form the station at like 11.30 last night and the childcatcher came on...decided that it would freak me out too much and put something quiet and happy on!
Just got back from seeing Patrick Wolf at the Cluny in Newcastle...
Breathtakingly, staggering, awesome. I haven't been to a gig that good in a long time.
The special moments when the songs reach a quiet point, and the whole audience is completely and utterly silent in appreciation, are priceless.
The gig was almost nothing like the album - very intimate, but 100% live. Gone are the electronic samples, it's just Patrick Wolf with his brilliant vocals and whatever instrument he fancies playing (and also a drummer for the odd song).
Thoroughly recommended, especially in such a small venue.

I got there with my friends about an hour before the doors opened. Patrick Wolf was about 2 metres away from me, but instead of saying hi to him I ran away in fear! I hate myself now!
I listened to The Childcather yday, and I'm quite freaked out now!

1st half he had black hair and played old stuff veeeryy well just him, a piano, a ukulele and a string quartet.
2nd half he had ginger hair and played us the new album, I think most of it at least.
He ended with Tristan, rolled around on the floor alot.

yeah looking at pics from the first half and the 2nd half, his hair was shorter when black and then in the 2nd half he was moving it about a lot, tugging it etc so the black was most liekly a wig.
And as for Kelly Osbourne, she actually seems to have good taste, I met her at a gig outside the Astoria once and she seems really nice. I didn't really talk to her this time...apart from asking her if I could get past cause out seats were after hers.

the more and more i listen to wind in the wires, the more i fall in love with it. i think it's absolutely perfect, and leaps and bounds better than lycanthropy. i'm so glad he plays a lot of witw still, and said that he can't relate to many of the lycanthropy songs any longer.
i can't wait to see Tristan being played live to me in 6 days

p.s on patrick wolf' myspace, there was a bulletin about winning tickets for the union chapel gig. it's only tickets mind, and a pair at that. worth a try for anyone hoping to go.

oh my, he was absolutely brilliant. the venue was really beautiful and it all fit so perfectly. he was very clumsy in the first half, but it was very funny. no electronics at all, but they had 3 piece string section, drums, double bass, and his sister who has the most amazing voice. he played 5 new songs i think. i took lots of pictures, and some videos which i will upload for people to see.
he was a lot taller than expected...:D. he dressed all victorian in the first half, and then like a glittery peter pan in the second half.

I saw him again thursday, it was so fucking magical. Altough he couldn't use most of his instruments because he couldn't plug them in so he had to use his laptop mostly. He did play for an hour instead of 45 minutes. He said he'd be back in the netherlands later this year so I really can't wait now!

The new album's terrific, I love Wind in the Wires and thought he couldn't top it, especially as I wasn't that fussed about the Accident and Emergency single. But I was wrong, it's great. I especially love Magpie and Augustine atm, so atmospheric!

Yeah you're right. I could have known! But thats what is so annoying because I always make sure I find out who is supporting the bands I go and see but for some reason last night I didn't. Patrick Wolf is too.. hmm. I don't know. When I first started listening to him, the idea of him sitting in a field with a violin pops in my mind. Like he's stepped out of an 1800s poetry scene.

I think you need to hear some recorded stuff and/or see him perform properly with his band :) It was a good performance though, but hard to appreciate unless you like him first I think.
He's normally described as an 'electro-folk' kind of thing, and as much as I hate genre tags, it describes some of his stuff pretty well. I think you'd enjoy some of it :) I can upload some stuff at some point if you want.

I hope he's taking a long break from it rather than calling it quits forever. I know it's crap having people think they know you, speculating about your sexuality, calling you a berk for not signing autographs even though you're really tired but he's such a great musician and showman. I didn't even know any of his songs before I went to see him but I still had an absolutely amazing night just because he's such a great live musician and showman.
