I know it's a Smiths song. And I thought it was almost as bad as when Bis covered 'The Boy With A Thorn In His Side'.
I meant that I don't want them to attempt to cover tracks by other bands I love.

You have to wonder.."Would Nirvana still be popular today if Curt hadn't died and they kept making music?"
I mean look at Pearl Jam.....I still think 10 was a great album but since they are still around and have declined in popularity (to most people anyway) people look at their later stuff and not what they first loved about the band.
It was nice hearing a PJ track at the end of "Big Fish" though.
I know, kind of off topic but it's been bugging me.
Personally you might add Bach's Fugue in Dminor to that list of cover songs. :) Do you guys remember an album called Bach Busters? It was wendy carlos type of electronic classical music. Good stuff.

robbie williams is much better than he gets credit for. A lot of his songs are rocky and karma killer is a great song, but i cant see muse doing a cover of it
or, for that matter, of any other song. Muse may have done covers in the past (all of them brilliant, especially can't take my eyes of you, great version), but that was just before they got going
they dont need them anymore, and i think they would rather not

its a shame really, they should do them to bump up the b-sides for us fans....it would be a sign of their apparent boldness and musical chivalry, who cares if they butcher them they certainly shouldn't, it never hurt the manics,

can't take my eyes of you, great version
Ugh... every1 talks about this yet still have not heard it... :'(
Personally I reckon some rad covers would be; REM, Elton John (though they wouldn't wanna screw it up or they'd be crucified, not that they could have have a bad song), the immigration song- led zeppelin (hehe screaming matt) or Tori Amos, I'm not really sure what songs of these ppl but theres my spot!

I am sure none of you heard of her, but I would have to say Muse would do a killer cover of a song called "Practice" by Cory Sipper. Cory Sipper may be adult alternative. Her songs have quiet longing to them. I feel a Muse cover of that song would give it an urgency which would reinvent the song in a way.

Anyway, on subject. I reckon they'd do an interesting version of Xiu Xiu's (http://www.xiuxiu.org) I luv the Valley, Oh! It'd be hilarious. Matt'd have to be slightly more pretentious and inaudible for it to be good though. :p

I never like it when other bands do a cover of what was a really good song. it's like the song's really changed and its weird.
that said, some of Muse's covers are pretty good. Like Feeling Good and Can't Take my Eyes off You. But noone should cover the Smiths. :|

yes why not this is perfectly suited to muse dark neoclassical undertones and is niche to be "quirky" enough for matt. the video could have them in a space rocket adventure, they could get busted up by asteriods and crash into an apocalyptic version of earth, dont you think...matt knows UB40 you know, the drummer of UB40 used to play in a band that supported telstar, matts dads band.

If they were to go with a Queen song (other than Flash) then I would say Killer Queen. I reckon they could whip up a pretty quirky version... although... it is already!
Other possibilities:
-Eye of the Tiger... why? Cause it's a ripper of a song and I'd love any of my favourite bands to have a crack!
-Tainted Love... might as well... every other band has covered it...mwuhahaha
-Wake Me Up Before you Go go... actually, no... not the song... they could just remake the clip..
I like the can't take my eyes off you cover... cause it's a song you wouldn't really pick them to do... I'd like them to do another cover like that... hence the wake me up suggestion... mwuahahahhahaaha.
Actually... on a serious suggestion... I'd like them to do something by Smashing Pumpkins.. although, I don't really know how they would alter the songs as much! But I think something like 'Forgive' as a slower song and maybe Cherub Rock as a heavier song would be kinda cool.

Here are the lyrics.....
Save me from drowning in the sea
Beat me up on the beach
What a lovely holiday
There's nothing funny left to say
This sombre song would drain the sun
But it won't shine until it's sung
No water running in the stream
The saddest place we've ever been
Everything I touched was golden
Everything I loved got broken
On the road to Mandalay
Every mistake I've ever made
Has been rehashed and then replayed
As I got lost along the way
There's nothing left for you to give
The truth is all that you're left with
Twenty paces then at dawn
We will die and be reborn
I like to sleep beneath the trees
Have the universe at one with me
Look down the barrel of a gun
And feel the Moon replace the Sun
Everything we've ever stolen
Has been lost returned or broken
No more dragons left to slay
Every mistake I've ever made
Has been rehashed and then replayed
As I got lost along the way
Save me from drowning in the sea
Beat me up on the beach
What a lovely holiday
There's nothing funny left to say
.....Cheers

Suprisingly i would rather see them doing something simple- like that stupid white stripes song- seven nation army. Its simple and has lots of room to add stuff and put in your own personal style.
I cant see Matt singing the chorus to heartshaped box...
I want them to do a System of a Down cover- i think that would be cool.

No one is going to know this song, but I would love them to cover This Ain't A Love Song by Gramsci aka Paul McLaney. He's English born, NZ bred...totally dedicated to his music.
Part of the song:
Memories can always be broken
You drag your past behind you I know
Getting heavier each and every morning
But won't let it drag me down
Cos this ain't a love song
This ain't about you
I don't miss you at all
Now that I'm living without you
Just passing time
Nothing between the lines
No, this ain't a love song
Right, I'll wander right off again...

I have a few, I'm an old fart so some of you won't of heard these.
Grace by Jeff Buckley. Lovely song and Matt wouldn't naff it up!
Blue Velvet.....I can't remember the artist that did this one, but I remember it was in a film with Izzabella Rossillinni in. Very haunting melody. Would suit Matt's voice
People are Strange by Echo and the Bunnymen, just for the fun value on that.
Electricity by O.M.D Replacing almost all the synths with guitar!
Entangled by Genesis. If you have ever heard THIS one you'll know why I picked it!

Anything from the sixties - I don't know who sings the one I'm thinking of, but it goes "Girl, you really got me going, you got me so i don't know what I'm doing.... You really got me Etc" Was it The Kinks?

silverchair - emotion sickness [killer song, got piano, heavy riffs, kick arse bass, falsetto, great drums, im surprised muse didnt make it first!]
AFI - morningstar [matt could cover all of davey's screaming with his eerie wailing, saw AFI live..muse are better but this song is very muse-ish...if anyone CAN be muse-ish]

Bonkers, I know, maybe with Chris singing the starting vocals and playing the main riff on bass, and Matt doing the crazy falsetto. I doubt anyone here will know wtf I am going on about.

that YMCA song, or the fast food rockers song.
On a serious note, I would like to see them cover tangerine by led zeppelin to see what matt's acoustic skills are like or yours is no disgrace by yes to test all of them

im sorry but they suck at covers...
feeling good its alright, the only exception, but thats it.
Alright?! Feeling Good is a fantastic version - its right up there with my faves out of all Muse tracks. :D
I'd kinda like to hear Matt screaming out Light My Fire by The Doors - if only to eradicate any lasting memory of the easy listening shite version that Will Young did. *shudders*

No?? ok, i really don't think they should cover any songs, id rather them do their own. I didnt like 'cant take my eyes off you', but 'House of rising sun' was ok, much prefer their songs though!!
How about Hold Me, Thill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me By U2?

How about Hold Me, Thill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me By U2?
woohoo!!! Yes, I think that would be brilliant.
And about the Take On Me idea, I think that would be a pretty cool idea. Of course Muse's version would be a more rock cover, unlike A1 who covered it and made it even more poppy than Aha originally had it.
That said, Stereophonics new song starts of sounding like the A1 version of Take On Me.
