i'm working on getting a k&t faq back up so hopefully that should cover the citizen erased threads from appearing. tis a shame to lose all the tabs and stuff that people put time into working out. if muse bring out some new stuff i'll try think how to get tabs externally backed up incase muse goes down the pan again (which i think could happen since we're still on a pap server and last i heard there was problems copying the board across - course i might be wrong)

Ha ha yea, the singing is a tad weird. Itwas the last day and everything was getting a bit rushed.
Alot of singing of that track has been changed and is now better IMO.
I really cant wait to get our new recording finished, coz I'd love to hear all your feedback on what 'i think' are much more interesting tracks.

This is a little joky, but nevertheless:
I've played once!
NAME: 'Me And My Machine'
Just me on guitar, and a drum beat box (doing snare, bass over and over)
Four songs:
Random Riff Jam
Ctrl Alt Delete
Postman Pat (the main theme was incorporated in the solo)
Whammy Wahnsinn (wahnsinn= german for 'madness')
Was brilliant, everyone loved me, 'twas at a school 'Battle of the Bands' - I didn't win, but it went down really well.
I was taking a page out of Muse's books by taking the piss out of the competition.
Whammy Wahnsinn did have a basic structure, but the end was a five minute outro of noise, feedback, pitchshifting and wah (inc. me balancing on a wah and whammy pedal at the same time)
BRILLIANT!!
Feedback please!?!?

The drummer for Stabbing Westward was checking out our tunes the other day, and the first thing he said to me was, "sounds like a heavier version of muse....heard of them?"

yeah we weren't entirely happy with the mixes...there's several problems with them. we're going back in to do a few more tracks and remix the old ones. it was about 4 AM and we had been in there since 11 AM...needless to say, your ears go a little dead after a while...
...there's actually no bass guitar on any of the recordings, regardless. it's all synths :)
...and i never really thought that we sounded like muse, either...but i just thought it was cool that someone made the comparison. i would just say that if you dig muse, you might dig us as well.
thanks though! :)

What an amazing song. My band actually did a song sort of similiar to this which was partly based on the adams family bass line. But i just love this song wow. And "all together and all alone" is just a brilliant lyric. What are your reasons for your name "battle circus". The song has a very circus feel to it, its amazing.Well done and good luck guys :)

YYAAAAY!!!
It has the first draft mixes of three of the songs from our new demo... the vocals have been re recorded, guitars and percussion added and messed about with...
Basically don't judge us too harshly on these recordings theyve been COMPLETELY remixed and fiddled with since!
Contact me if you want a copy of the demo ;-) anyone from stoke on trent we're playin a few gigs there come october check our site out groups.msn.com/thedoultonslive
Ive been endlessly plugging my band lol please let it b worth it :p

I have
Boss Metal Zone Mk2

Digitech Whammy Pedal Mk4
Line 6 Delay Moduler (DL4)
Abduction is basically a note looped and warped using the DL4, you can hear similar things at the end of Karma Police by Radiohead and Hyper Chondriac Music by Muse hehe. But basically, that's all I do in my band, make strange sounds and all atmospheric stuff, glad you liked it :D

I don't know what possessed you to save them as .wav. and also, we had to click at least four times to download the songs, so that was false advertising.
as for the track itself (I only listened to toccata and fugue), absolutely supurb! The guitar (if not the other instruments) was crystal clear and, by God, I now want a fuzz probe even more! damn you, Haze! damn you!

The fact that they were recorded to tape, then recorded to PC using Sound Recorder possessed me to save them as .wav
Toccata and Fugue was quite funny as our drummer had no idea what was going on and I was hardly using the FP in that :p

apart from songwriting with my band, i write alot of music for myself, i try to make everything as asymmetrical etc as i can but at the moment im having alot of difficulty because our band is taking a step towards electronical oriented music which is brilliant because i pushed us to do it, but on my own i write music thats heavily inspired by Jonny Greenwood's BodySong, like for instance 24 hour celestion, i wanna make alot of complicated drum loops and shit but i cant do anything on fruit loops its so damn complicated and i cant write anything else otherwise because i can write alot of melodies but i want them all spliced up and shit and cant do it if i cant work fruityloops does anyone know fruitloops well and can teach me please

Thank you for your compliments! The major infulunces on that song are Pink Floyd and Damien Rice, quite obvious what comes from where, to be honest.
Electronic is good! I did the drums, bass, synths and piano for that song in a peice of software called Reason, which sounds like it might be just what you're after. It's costly, I'm afraid (about £250), oh but it's good!

I'm afraid I have no idea as I have never used fruity loops. You should go into a music shop and try Reason, you'll love it, trust me. It has, included, a drum machine (for which any .aiff can be made a sound), a loop player, two synths (analog style and "graintable" style), two samplers, assorted effects (including amazing reverb, distortion and vocoder units), splitters and mergers and loads of cool stuff which all appears as a virtual and infintely expandable rack that can be wired up however you wish!

hey i have a question for you. a bit personal, so i don't want exact figures, but as an unsigned band (i think you are?), do you make more than £10,000 a year from gigging?

hey i have a question for you. a bit personal, so i don't want exact figures, but as an unsigned band (i think you are?), do you make more than £10,000 a year from gigging?
the long answer would be...
most signed bands dont make that much money. as an unsigned band you wont even brake even. every gig cost us money which has to come out of our own pockets. Van hire and diesel alone can come to 100quid for one gig. and we get paid... fuck all.( per gig ). unfortunatly, thats the way it is. the only gigs we get paid for are home town ( Hull ) gigs. we hire the venue and charge on the door. we made about 300 quid 2 weeks ago on a gig at Hull adelphi. but we purposfully dont play in Hull that much because you wont get anywhere playing in front of your mates.
We get out of town gigs by sending the demo you have listened to. ( wont even start on the price of that ), but that will only get you one gig at a venue. after that, they will book you if you are good. and most will expect you to take 20 - 30 people with you.. and if you dont, guess what. you pay for 20 odd tickets yourself...... very few promoters are even interested in music. its a business, and they want to make money.. our last tour cost us about 500 quid for 2 weeks. sleeping in the back of a merc sprinter ( luckely i have a VW camper also ).
However.. to say that it is worth it is an understatement. been on tour is the best feeling ever.
so get a credit card and get in the back of a transit van..
btw.. the short answer... what was the question again...
Ernest

Thank you. that used to be a differant song, and we just strapped it onto the end of growser.
another worthwhile point about what i was saying above... even if one person like yourself turns around and says.. like really like that, or that was great, or that acoustic bit is beautiful, it really does make it all worth while.
cheers :D

you have to upload them to some webspace and then tell kev. if you need help uploading just ask him :)
hmm ernest the reason i was asking was because some guy on about sharing mp3s today used an argument that most bands don't make £10,000 a year. now i'd say you have to discount unsigned bands straight away as their material isn't accessible to download. but if you think about it, you also have to discount signed bands who aren't well known because if they aren't known then they won't be very easy to download. so that just leaves popular bands who have music that is easy to download. i'd find it very hard to believe if any of them aren't earning £10,000 a week let alone a year!
so anyway, i just wondered how much unsigned bands made :)

even small bands you may have heard of may not make that. they get less then 50p per album sale. nearly always loose money on tour. most people dont know, but, if you supported a big band like Muse.. it would cost you money. you would pay thousands per night to support them..
im sure that there are plenty of bands that do make 10,000 a week tho
well they should write good songs and not sell their rights then. considering downloading really took off in the late 90s, there are heaps of new bands around.

What an amazing song. My band actually did a song sort of similiar to this which was partly based on the adams family bass line. But i just love this song wow. And "all together and all alone" is just a brilliant lyric. What are your reasons for your name "battle circus". The song has a very circus feel to it, its amazing.Well done and good luck guys :)
battle circus was the name of our first song, before we actually had a name and just called ourselves "circus band"... it's also the name of a humphrey bogart film that our singer was watching at 3am one morning
we'll be recording another single soon, so i'll make sure to put it online for everyone to listen to

I just recorded a new song this morning. You can only get to it through my home page so here (www.angelfire.com/rock3/yellowsphere) is the link.
Lyrics:
Here I lie
Talking about things
That I don't want to
Talk about
But I wanna get them
Off my chest
I thought that
You'd be okay to tell
You seem like the sort of person
Who would take it well
How wrong I was
I just didn't
keep my mouth shut
Keep it to my self
Neither did you
keep your mouth shut
Or so I am told
Every day
I hear your calling
As you ignore me
As best you can
I don't know why
I said what I did
I could have just
kept my mouth shut
Why I didn't
I don't know
I'm all regrets
Have I manged to escape
The worst encased scenario
Unlike before
It's not a broadcast to all
Do I have you
to thank for this?

My band's filled with talentless musicians (but they're my best friends so I wouldn't have it any other way). I'll look through some recordings to see if anything is listenable. In the meantime, here's a clip of a demo I made about a year ago. A friend of mine in film school asked me if I could compose an intro to his film project, so I threw this one together for him to see if he liked it. Unfortunately, he went with a simple piano piece instead.
Right-Click and Save As to listen. (http://members.aol.com/rwea11/a_minor_acoustic_demo.mp3)
I'll eventually turn this into a song. The clip stops where the vocals would come in and the "loud part" will repeat for the choruses. The verses will just have an acoustic guitar play a simple riff on Am.

This is me playing and singing Grace by Jeff Buckley. I recorded it because I'm rather bored, and wanted to see if I could.
One note.. the vocals sound like crap because I had to record them seperately from the guitar, due to the lack of decent connecty things at the back of my computer. I feel far more comfortable singing while playing guitar than just singing along to the music, it just doesn't feel natural to me like that, And as a result the vocals sound horrible at best. Anyways, I'm still fairly happy with it, considering I really can't sing at all, and this is the first time I've tried recording myself.
Oh and I'm well aware that the recording quality is complete crap, I'm recording this in my bedroom OK! And my equipment SuXoRz.

Congrats, your bass playing is kick ass. The song "News" was very well put together but not entirely to my taste. All the same, it shows that you and your band have put in some hard work in practice and arranging your songs.

Can't remember if I've already posted this, either, so apologies if this is a repeat.

oh, my mistake, the headstock & scratchplate looks very talmanesque (haha, isnt it cool how you can add "esque" onto the end of anything  ) is it a copy? or a totally different model?

I will have finished my EP by the end of the week. It may not be the right sort of music for this board, but I'll put it up anyway. If I get good enough feedback then I might actually send it to some labels.

Intravenus your stuff is really well done. Did u record it in a studio or was it a home recordng?
No no, all our stuff was recorded and produced by me, at home, on my pc. Why? Because every time we went to a studio, the music came out sounding exactly like every other amateur band's first cd (every musician who has gone to an amateur recording studio will know exactly what I mean) so I decided to mix our tunes myself and, while I haven't reached the dizzying heights of John Leckie yet, I'd say I'm getting along quite nicely.

We've got soundclips up if you click the play button in the top corner,
we're young and fairly inexperienced, and the recordings arn't top quality, but i think we actually have some potential, i'd like to know anyone's thoughts or constructive comments in our forum or on the guestbook if you can be arsed.

My site is as yet unfinished and there is one track to listen to at the moment.
Bare in mind that I am just starting out and have limited resources at my disposal.
Aside from that little disclaimer, I hope anyone who follows the link actually lies what they hear. The track is incomplete I'll admit (just an early edit) but gives an idea of what I'm aiming at.
