Well said.
it's true.

niiiiiiiiiice liking the home recorded one! muchoes! Not many interesting unsigned bands around, you guys are mint. only one thing, the tone of the guitar is too murky at about 1:40 but i'm just nitpicking.
love the solo as well! it's something i'd do if i actually had any pedals hahaha

thanks man :) people dont generally like us haha you're one of the few. :p
yeah well in anycase we'll have recordings of all our songs as of july and i'll be mixing them at home.. but that song has severely changed for the best.. much more powerful now. (note: not heavy, just more 'inyourface'")
this is due to the fact that we have all gotten better at our instruments, and since that recording we have changed bassists. becaus the girl who recorded bass on that song was good but wasn't into the band that much.. she just wanted to play RHCP all the time..

anyways, I like your stuff man, it's quite similar to primus I find.. which is never a bad thing! :D Nice one for having two guitarists too!! I find it impossible really to play with another guitarist due to the fact that I have all my effects and generally the other guitarists dont have any so it's like "ugh ok well umm i'll make weird cool noises while you shred.. or something"

the reason there is a hiss is because I had to raise the volume of the recording afterwords, and I couldn't be arsed to rerecord because I did that and thought it sounded good. so instead I just raised the volume and that hiss appeared.. also adding compression helped a bit to remove it but I dont like abusing of compression..

and yeah I am open to critisism in the sense that you're saying it for me to help imrpove it, but not to open criticizm or whatever you call it where you just insult for the point of insulting.. put some reason into your pos instead of just saying "gotta love the hiss" because you've already come off as a right twat.

if your in a band expect people to say "your band is shit, get off the stage" all i was implying in my frist post was "GET RID OF THE HISS BECAUSE IT SOUNDS LIKE SHIT" if you cant take it then stop playing music. because your going to come across alot of people who are not gonna like it. not because it sounds horrible, but because people are gonna bue straight out assholes.

Hey, could someone post some nice feedback on my band? Production stuff preferably. It's on the page before this one. It's good! The production is very accomplished, although the vocals could perhaps do with a little touching up. However, the song itself loses steam a little from when the vocals come in. Though, thinking about that, the long outro would probably work very well in an album context.

In other news, my band, Studio Tokyo! (http://www.studiotokyo.co.uk) has finished its EP. You can listen to it here (http://www.mk-music.net/Page_Musician2.asp?Site=1&Section=46&Page=370&Member=5462). Feedback is very muchly appreciated. The EP will be available soon for free download, or CD purchase (for £2) through our website.

You could at least assist by suggesting ways to get rid of the hiss and stuff like that, telling him to do it, when he may not necessarily know isn't helpful in the slightest.

A couple more song should be enough for an EP I think.

thank you! oh, i listened to bits of that huge swathe of stuff yours, yellowsphere. haven't got through it all yet, but it was mighty good. i was quite startled, to be honest. i don't know: not often you hear something that fully-formed, i suppose, from an unsigned artist. and, you know, you're not in hock to anyone else up to your eyeballs, which is always a good thing. cheers.

I think for the songs that you're writing the guitar should be big, massive and in your face. The tone is more or less perfect, but you're hearing it from the other side of the wall in which the amp is, except on the last track, where it all hangs together far better, except I would give the bass more influence.

Lots of potential, there just needs to be a little bit more work done on cleaning up the mix, in my opinion.

yes, yes! good stuff. to me, it sounded a little like my vitriol to start with. i mean, i see the sonic youth thing with the chimey guitars and edgy arrangement, but then it has this straight-up melodic vibe which reminded me of my vitriol. and nirvana, oddly by the second verse. digging the lush major key-ish mogwai interlude, and the my bloody valentine style noisenik stuff at the end is ace. all that pertains to 'quite interesting'. now i'd better go and listen to the rest, hadn't i? oh, and i like yr drummer.

Would appreciate any feedback! It's the first time we've played it together so there hasn't been too much development of the original riffiness! The western style bit at the start was taken from a stopmotion lego western me and the bassist made a while back, hence the lego gif.

No lyrics written yet, as our singer has been awol for the last 2 practices, and we're just wank at it really :p

Oh and i know it says electronica, but we havn't got around to working out synthy stuff yet for this one.

i apologise for the poor recording quality of the drummer's Creative somethingorother, but i have tried to eq it abit and got rid of as much clipping as possible!

Just thought the Little Nightmare fans (Kid Thunder, was it? Using memory here, owch) would like to know there's another recorded song up called White Noise. Which makes 5, woohoo.

Detonate's still my favourite.
right, I told Kid_Thunder a while back that I would make a website for his band (nothing fancy.. just something nicer than a myspace..)

so here it is: www.littlenightmare.tk

tell me what you think

Yay, good to see a fellow fan after all these months! (weren't you the one who first mentioned the quality of their songs on an mp3 player?) I downloaded White Noise two weeks ago and I love it. My fav's still Opening Act I guess, but all of their songs rock :D
It was indeed moi! Have been offline a while and only just thought to check and see if there were any new songs d'oh :) I'm still not bored of the 4 I do have. Through headphones they're epic. Hurry up with that EP!!

Nice start to the website David, one question, can you only have so much audio on tk sites? Just noticed 'Thanks for the Cyanide' is missing..

no no, the .tk sites are just to makes things easier when it comes to the name of the website... so instead of it being www.odwyer.net/~dwydav/little%20nightmare/index.html , it's www.littlenightmare.tk

the only reason TFTC isnt on there is because it's not on myspace anymore..

Howdy doo *bio plug*
My band's name is "This Door to Remain Closed During Work Hours" [These Doors for short], we're from a combo of Fairbanks and North Pole, Ak. Our music ranges alllll over the place, with nothing sounding similar really. But the appropiate genre fixin' would be Experimental Post Rock I'd spose. We have songs ranging from Post-Rockish to Punk Rock to Full Blown Experimental to near Hardcore (without the abrasion) to Lullabys, etc. We've been together for a year, but have only had half of that time to play together as our members seem to like to move away and back again (bassist to Korea, drummer to Ohio then Oregon, etc.) Within that time span we've recorded two cd's each after a 3 month period. It's only 8 songs, but that's about 1 1/2 hours of music as the majority of our songs extend over 10 minutes (with our first song reaching 18 minutes). Our songs have peices, but everything is free form, so songs are liable to lengthen or shorten and transform upon each performance. Anyway our website is thesedoors.com (http://www.thesedoors.com). Just click on the "music" link on the bottom of the page to get to being able to download the tunes. If anybody likes what they hear I can send them a link or two of our new material to get a further gander at what we have to offer. On the songs "Live from the Tunnel at the Bottom of the Sea" and "Mr.800-11" you may notice the use of the dear Fuzz Probe. To really hear the probe used to it's potential I'd suggest listening to the live track of our first performance of Mr.800-11 (excerption) @ CCH (http://www.thesedoors.com/this door to remain closed during work hours. - Mr.800-11 Live@CCH.mp3) *note that the recording quality isn't the prettiest". It's used a bit throughout but once the 9:00 minute mark is hit it gets swelling...sadly I haven't been able to re-create all the stuff I did...alas. Anyway any feedback is appreciated good and bad. Hope you enjoi.

Ok, here goes :p

Try to judge on the quality of the music, as opposed to the recording. The recording quality is fairly poor, and the second one skips during the end of the first verse, so will definately need to be re-done.

Any adds and nice comments highly appreciated :)

Had a wee listen to your stuff dwydav.

The singing is not horrible, you can hold a tune extremely well actually, plus your voice is quite unique too. Nice sounding vocal distortion too.

Really nice sounding guitars on Scratched and Scorned, they're not fizzy or overgained. Most heavy bands on myspace and purevolume tend to have dead fizzy, wasp-in-a-jar type guitar sounds where as here it is pretty much perfect, especially for a home recording.

Bass sounds pretty good actually, drums sound good too.

The songs themselves are actually really good, and the standout for me is Scratched and Scorned, really nice riff and playing excellent overall.

Great stuff, have yourself a cookie.

wow :stunned: I was really expecting something like "u sukk n00b" cool man thanks!!

all I used for the distortion on scratched and scorned was a metal zone :D and my pickups on my black Ibanez have quite a high output, so it makes that gorgeous distortion :D

Yeah I think scratched and scorned is the one I did best of all three, but I like my backup vocals on cotton mouth :D

and the vocal distortion is on garage band.. and the screaming is very simple to do.. you whisper into a microphone and then stick distortion on it.. thats how Bellamy did the SUPERMASSIVE BLACK HOOOOLE bit and how Chris seems to be screaming on Assasin, but no, they're actually whispering ;)

Nah man, you're really good.

And yeh, I know about the distortion on the vocals, tried it myself on a track and everyone had great fun whispering various things into the mic while I was getting ready to record. We ended up not using any wee whispered bits on the song but kept the distorted vocals and it suits the song quite well.

You can have a listen(if you can be arsed) on our myspace(in my sig) to our stuff, though I'm not sure if you'll like it or not. The one with distorted vocals is called Black Market.

You gonna record any more in the near future?

EDIT: Sorry for the vocals being a bit off in Black Market also, three days of constant recording and singing is not good for the voice...

Scratched and Scorned is a pretty good song, and probably the most memorable of those three tracks. I like the accuracy of the harmonics, and the bit where one of the harmonics is extended slightly (I think it's before the main riff comes in the first time?). Nothing really stuck out for me in the others.

Also, in return, perhaps you can comment on my new band's stuff? :p

dwydave: yeah scratched & scorned is the best I think! love the intro & random probe bits you did!

Yellowsphere: top notch music dude! F for delay is very Gilmourish :p if you're looking for constructive critisisms, vocals are slightly emo/americanified, and definately the weakest point. but only cos the music is so good.

You guys mind checking out my band?

it's in my sig (although we've changed our name to I.V. now, but myspace is being a wank and we can't log into the new one to upload songs.) No vocals on these recordings as it's an old site...Carousel is probably the best song, although that recording was the first time we playd it after it was written and we were all reading notes so I apologise for the mistakes :p Oh and if you imagine a kick ass trombone solo in the heavier bit of that, it helps too...

Right angled jack and the sparklesharks was the first song we wrote, and it's lost all its funk overtones now for more cowboy/riding music :D just imagine "galloping" style chords from the guitar instead of whatever crap I'm playing there! p.s. it's the top one! don't feel you need to listen to the appalling bottom one!!!

PLEASE can someone give us some kinda constructive critisism? Everyone we asked after our first gig just said stuff like "awesome." There's nothing like the anonyminity of the internet for honesty though, so be as harsh as you like ;)

cheers!

Yellowsphere: top notch music dude! F for delay is very Gilmourish :p if you're looking for constructive critisisms, vocals are slightly emo/americanified, and definately the weakest point. but only cos the music is so good.It was such a thrown together recording that we recorded all the vocals at the same time in such a way that they couldn't be mixed afterward (all the instruments were recorded with just ambient mics then kick and snare). Max is the most emoy, and if you saw him you'd agree, haha, it's also mostly him that makes the voices seem Americany...excuses excuses! But yes, definitely constructive, although I find that trying to make your voice not sound American makes you sound like a Dick van Dyke Cockney. Thank you very much for your praise, anyway. :P

I'll get it up on another site and listen to your stuff soon!

Ok I've got 9 songs together.. I still have a few to record, but I wanted to know your impressions on what I've already done..

This is a link to a 43.6 MB file.. it's basically all 9 songs one after the other.. I have done it this way because I want to know what you think of the transitions between songs... it's a sort of concept album so all songs or nearly all fade into each other.

So if anyone is up for it, give this a listen and tell me what you think of the production and music itself. The singing is not great since its all done into the microphone in my mac  and I dont have a great voice either which I suppose doesnt help

anyways tell me what you think if you're brave enough to listen through all of it..

Here's the track listing so you can give references to opinions:

1. Chaos Behold (Intro) | 00:00 - 02:46
2. Scratched and Scorned | 02:46 - 06:06
3. Schizophrenic | 06:06 - 11:05
4. Silent Screams | 11:05 - 16:30

Not bad though, however, your guitar tone seems incredibly thin at points, especially when clean, which detracts from the quality of the entire thing really. How did you record guitar?

The track transitions are fine. I like the intro and outro tracks and the drums at the beginning of Authority Issues.

well it may sound like muse, but all those songs were written over a year ago, so if you're refering to Silent Screams sounding like hoodoo then I was there first :p

I would class it as a bit of Muse, a bit of System of a Down, anda bit of Deftones.. and I was told Queens of the Stoneage and Foo Fighters too, which if its true is quite an honour

The riff for scratched and scorned is awesome! As are the plug in baby feedback sounds in the intro! From one listen Silent Screams, Authority Issues and Chaos Behold 2 were the others that really stood out for me. The intro of silent screams does veer periously close to Hoodoo so well done for beating muse to it (or managing to get inside matt's head whilst he was writing it via a bizarre pyschic out of body experience). And Purple Wolf is my fav.. the bluesyness of it is brilliant  this is definitly the one which I enjoyed the most just because of that Organ you have playing in the background :D

All in all greaqt stuff man!! very experimental I would say but it sounds great  what did you use to record?

5. Cotton Mouth | 16:30 - 19:31
6. Jamalong Disco | 19:31 - 21:12
7. Special | 21:12 - 24:48
8. Authority Issues | 24:48 - 27:27
9. Chaos Behold 2 (outro) | 27:27 - end

Thanks!!

EDIT: derr forgot the link: www.odwyer.net/~dwydav/silentscreams.mp3
The album is called Silent Screams

thats awesome!!!
one question though.. in scratched and scorned, how did you get the wierd distorted screaming thing (the word "control" i think)?

yeah whispering, and if you really want a harder scream, do a sort of controlled noise much like the noise someone makes in a movie when they die haha where you sort of tense up you vocal chords and it does actually come out as a scream.. the scream you can hear in Authority Issues was actually screaming though :$ my gf and I split up that night and I felt the need to scream my guts out on something

All in all great stuff man!! very experimental I would say but it sounds great  what did you use to record?

aw thanks!

I agree, if i got the chance to do star gazer again i would do it a tad slower, and make the clean guitar a bit more to the fore, maybe mixed with piano doing the same arpeggios.

I'm hoping that i'll get the chance to do a bit more to furiffery too. I have a completely different 'chorus' bit that doesn't have the time change but instead epic distortion and an insanely crazy synth (so a bit Stockholm syndrome, but without ripping it off!).

Purple wolf was done in one take after a few beers, but i thought it turned out really well too! Cheers! :D

It was all recorded with one of my parents friends who basically has a giant mixing desk in a cuboard and some computer software, which i believe is the most recent cubase, but not certain.
And recorded with: Maverick X-1, Boss V Wah, Marshall Echohead

Hello sexy people!

My band (pyrobaby) have just uploaded a new track on our myspace! Please take 3.22minutes to listen to it. The whole bloody thing was recorded and mixed in 8 hours so appreciate the rawness!?!

so yeah take a listen and leave a comment!!!!!!

Hi there. Some new stuff is up. Not Architect though, but still kinda fun.

It's my side-project that consists of me and a two hour write/produce rule.

Not the best sounding of recordings but it is listenable.

The project is called 'goat' and the first song is 'Skeletons'

should point out, anyone who cared about my band recording (none of you? oh well, i'll carry on in total ignorance  ) it's not gone to plan, we started, but due to me being really ill for the last week, we haven't been able to continue :(

and now we don't know when we'll be able to finish, might see if we can rent a hall for a weekend or something and go mental in the near future.

Hey, would people check out my bands old myspace in my sig? We're called IV now, but the songs are the same...really want feedback from people who can actually say if we suck, cos everyone we've asked seems to think we're good and I want some rel musicians who arn't friends of mine to comment on our stuff...the recordings are REALLY bad quality from our drummers mp3 player, but considering its on that they're not too shabby. No lyrics on there cos our singer is lazy really.

Carousel is very badly played cos it was the first run through of the song we did after writing it in the same hour :p

water is better played, but still not good quality either.

right angled jack and the sparklesharks is good up to the break, but instead of that crappy funk type riff, its gone just to chords :D so try not ro listen to the whole versions of them! :p

Anyway, seriously...if we suck, please tell us cos we havn't had any real critisicms yet :D oh yeah, those recordings are all from like september and before, so we've advanced abit since then! new recordings soon

cheers

I've gotta say mate the stuff you're doing in Architect is pretty amazing.. do you guys have a demo I can order so that I don't get the beautifully compressed myspace versions of the song? or if you are willing to send them to me for free in a nice bitrate that would be even better :D:D:D

I swear the beggining piano bit with the synth behind it going in reverse sends shivers down my spine in Sisyphian Gaze :D

anyways seriously keep it up man, I don't see it as something you'd get on a radio, but its definetly something I would listen to over and over again in my place or on my mp3 player :)

Well, neither of these are MY bands but i'm plugging them anyway.

Tempt the Waters (www.myspace.com/temptthewaters) Band based out of Tampa, Fl that i'm co-producing and engineering. Classed as "southern hardcore"

The Feigning (www.myspace.com/thefeigning) - my good friends band, just kicked out the lead singer because a) he sucked b) he was holding the band back c) he was a bag of douche. We're working on getting their new vocals tracked so check back often. Theres a instrumental track up for now. The douche bag ex singer also deleted their previous myspace with 10k friends so help spread the word.

Please note all of the songs on these pages are rough mixes and unmastered. and thats the best you'll get until the albums drop.

Two new monster epics coming up.

One of them is 10 minutes of Architect-style epic hugeness. If you liked 'A Vulture's Song' you'll love 'Yog-Sothoth' and 'From Anatoly Korenchkin'.

unfortunately the cd may take a few more days than originally planned, had a gig tuesday and we weren't as prepared for it as we probably thought, so our time got put into that. but otherwise, anyone is more than welcome to one :)

had a listen :)

well, as you want constructive feedback.....i thought the work in progress one seemed interesting, definately heard the muse influence, but that's no bad thing, if you got a proper drummer in and structured it alot better, you could have a cool lightning bolt meets white stripes thing going on there if you don't get a bassist in, i imagine it would run the risk of becoming too muse sounding if you did have a bassist involved though.

the other two songs, didn't feel there was enough coherence (?) between the various instruments, didn't feel like they gelled. thought the drum beat on onetwospitedance was cool, just need to vary it up so it's not the same beat over and over.

oh and a bit of reverb or delay on a piano goes a long way.....

WIP1 is (at the moment) just random riffage. definitely very muse influenced, and i also drew on a bit of tom morellos style in parts of it. at some stage in the next little while im gonna sit down and really sort out some of those riffs into something a lot more organised and structured, and (hopefully) get one of my drumming mates to put down a drum track for it.

the minotaur will eventually either be shortened, or will be cut up and have some more guitar or synth put in, and i might work in some heaviness. i dont really know...

onetwospitedance (the guitar of which was, btw, heavily inspired by the 3rd storey chemist :p) still has work to be done, and ill probably be getting a drummer to redo some of the drums on that, and change the beat a bit.

i agree with the coherence comment. thats definitely something i need to work on a lot.

and the verb on the piano thing... how do you put effects on midi instruments? i cant work it out...

thanks heaps for listening and providing feedback! :)

you don't put reverb on the MIDI track, you have to put it on the plugin :) don't think i can really explain it without pictures or something, quite simple though.

and taking from 3rd storey? oh dear :stunned:

i... see...

ill look at the cubase manual, see if that explains it...

and if it makes you feel any better, it was also inspired by bands like datarock and the infadels ;) but i love OffOnOff!!!

OOOh, we have almost good quality recording on our myspace now! :D They're about as good as a live recording gets really!

I'd really appreciate any feedback (good or bad) on our stuff, especially as we don't believe any of our friends who tell us that we're good! :p Any comments by internet people are really valued, as you guys can say whatever you like about our music!

...Ignore my silly Aunt at the start of Rebel ( I DON'T look like john lennon!)

Apologys for the really crappy quiet guitar on Frostbite...it was all differnt guitars and levels for it :)

Hey, keep checking back to see if anyones made any comments about my bands tracks but everyone seems to be ignoring us :(
Have a look, Under Your Skin and Mecurial are both really good tracks, Mercurial having a mega riff at the start. We're currently getting ready to record more songs, and have over 30 in the bag, but only 4 recorded.
The bands been together for at least 5 years, maybe more. I joined last year, and the demo on the site was recorded 4 years ago so some of the tracks have changed slightly.

Cheers guys have a listen.

My band has an appointment with Colin Murray to get feedback about our demo so I was wondering if anyone could offer us any advice what to do with our songs before this date.

Tzar (http://www.myspace.com/tzarmusicuk)

You can probably ignore Singularity as we will put the other two songs on the demo along with a new electro song and another new one. But advice about Stand and Forget and Saviour would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Don't have a website but one of our songs can be found at www.myspace.com/thebelongingkind.

It's not a full band playing. Just singer & piano and a string quintet, just to be different.
