The only people who were interested in doing anything were some girl in my class, who is pretty shocking. For her Music Tech recording, she didn't realise each instrument was like a full tone out of tune with each other till someone pointed it out.

Another girl asked me to join their band...which was comprised of a bunch of year 10 girls who could barely play...uhhh no thanks

I'm so sick of it :LOL: There is no-one that plays bass or drums that seems to be interested in anything

I don't think the stage feeling is bullshit at all. Everyone knows that's been up there with the right crowd and the right energy, that the feeling, the physical chemical release inside your head can't be beat. It is very much like a drug, and it's that kind of a feeling, adrenaline, energy, euphoria that keeps me going at it.

I know its going to be awhile before the next muse album, so I've recorded one (I play all the instruments on it...). It was recorded in my home studio - and seems to be getting good reviews, so any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Its hosted on Jamendo (so don't worry, this is a reputable site... not a spam/virus attack! :LOL: )

http://www.jamendo.com/en/album/90851

Its a good old fashioned alt-rock/grunge/indie/prog-rock, with some influences from Muse (of course), Pink Floyd, Neil Young, Rage Against The Machine... and others...

but I know how you feel. Nobody around me plays drums, or guitar, and I play bass. I also can somewhat sing and can definitely hardcore scream well. Been wanting to start a band for awhile, but nobody who can play an instrument that lives near me likes Muse. Or Underoath. Or Rise Against. Or anything else I do. So it looks like if I want to do anything it will have to be either all myself or an online collaboration thing. I'd actually like that though... similar to The Sound Of Animals Fighting...one person sends the next guy their part, they get inspired and write their part, and so on, until it's done...might be fun lol.

Me being Matt Bellamy :awesome:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwqsIRvebAA

Yeah it was the first song of our set so we had yet to get into it enough to jump around more :(

But still :awesome:

We're actually a blues band called The Queen Bees (three female lead singers, otherwise I would not have allowed such a name), but when we do stuff without the lead vocalists we're called The Blue Brick Houses.

We have Soundcloud: www.soundcloud.com/thequeenbees/
And we have Youtube: www.youtube.com/user/TheQueenBeesBand
And we have Facebook: www.facebook.com/TheQueenBees

Listen to us, subscribe to us, like us etc :D

Also, with it being a blues band I find it very difficult to convince the guys to play any Muse stuff (I fought for days to convince them to do Minimum), so I litter our other songs with Muse references where I feel like it. If you watch our video of Fire (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KbrOMqFTWR0) you may notice that its just that riff that Matt plays on the Wembley dvd right before Time Is Running Out :awesome:

Looking good! I'll have a listen when i'm near some speakers. Do you play many gigs in Manchester? Have you never been tempted to play Stoke? If you can get a Friday or Saturday night The Sugarmill is pretty good.

Just 'cos i'm posting I will attach my jam with myself on Sunday. The guitar is that £40 shitter from manfromcydonia. I basically go and smoke a fat one, then play drums along to a click, then play some bass, then I stuck some guitar on for the sake of it.

I'd suggest asking all the people who take gcse music at your school, usually a lot of them can sing, and they'll actually take the band seriously. My band is facing the same issue at the minute, I'm considering just singing myself :LOL:
People on websites probably won't take a band consisting of 15 year olds (Correct me if I'm wrong on that, I'm only going by your age) seriously.

Lord MFC
27-10-2011, 09:02 PM
Well our bassist is 20, he takes us really seriously and hes the driving force behing the band most of the time. But yeah, I have tried :( and at the college... It will help next year when i'll be in 6th form, more people to ask. Our drummer's trying to find people at the college as shes in the 6th form so is getting to know them, but shes at an all girls school next door, and hasnt really got to know many people there :(

Yeah it's not the greatest of situations :( Although I don't know about your area, but where I live sixth form does seems to be where most bands get together and start gigging. I'd keep asking though, maybe ask one of those people who seem to know every local band personally if they know anyone anyone who can sing.

We ad a 3 hour long practice today so we worked on a song I wrote a while ago, which will probably be one of the first original songs we'll play live. Please forgive the quality of this one, it wasnt recorded in the most professional of ways, and more importantly I was singing, which Im not great at. Our lead singer was hungover or something today so I took over on vocals.

But still, it would be a big help if you guys could give me some feedback on this since we're planning on including it in our set for a Battle of the Bands next week. Let me know what you think!

Not really sure how though, because I watched the video of our performance and it was the biggest pile of shit I have ever seen in my life. Seriously bad. Gonna need some autotune.

Trololololololo, you're more suited to the band anyway than her to be honest. She's better at singing, but she didn't have the frontman/woman vibe about her, and didn't really suit indie/blues/rock/whatever you are.

I always worry about how bad my vocals are, but then I see videos of b3llz0r singing when he was a teenager, and suddenly I have hope again.

That's brilliant! Vocals could do with a eesy bit better diction, but it's not much of a problem. It just sounds like an accent is coming through too much or something, I can't really describe it :LOL:

But then again it does make the music seem more original, the vocal style..

Played a pub gig last night. Twas a good gig, but the sound guy was a bit inexperienced to say the least :facepalm:

But the highlight was the following moment. Earlier in the set we played Red House and this random drunk guy welcomed himself to the stage to sing the last verse. I didn't really mind because the crowd seemed to dig it. Anyway, we closed the set with Johnny B Goode and the drunk guy found his way on to the stage for a second time to sing the chorus. I doubt he remembered it when he woke up this morning.

No idea who he was, but he told me after the show that he used to play in a blues band which is why he enjoyed our set so much. I kinda hope I see him at a gig again just because it was quite funny.

Just had a band practice, it was pretty insane, even without a singer. My mum walked in at the end and videoed us, so I'll post it if it's not too distorted. We've got 10 songs now completely tight, we're in-between singers atm so we need one before we get any gigs!

So our bassist Dan is doing a Music Tech course at college, so we were able to get a few hours in there to record a quick demo of Hole In My Pocket. Nothing too fancy, but enough to hopefully help us spread the word and get a few more gigs to add to our little list of dates.

This is only a very rough mix and theres still a fair bit to be done, but so far its sounding fairly nice methinks. If we get a chance over the next week or so, I want to lay down some guitar overdubs. It sounds a little bare to me, so I want to throw in a solo or two to liven it up a bit. My vocals are still making me cringe a bit though :facepalm:

For anyone whos interested in the gear, thats Daphne, the Biyang OD-8 I bought the other week, and the 60s Vox AC30. I have no idea what microphones or anything were used, I leave that to Dan (who is playing on a rather nice 5 String Aria).

Its being mixed on some form of Cubase. I think. I really have no idea, I just strum and make noises into the microphone :happy:

Sounding great, the vocals have definitely improved too :awesome:

However I am going to contribute some unasked for constructive criticism.
I'm not really liking some of the changes made from the version you did at that record audition thing.

For instance, the bits where the guitar bit sort of goes up a half step before playing the next bit.. it's difficult to describe :LOL: First appears at 0:22.
The parts where the vocals are distorted I didn't personally like either.

Obviously it's only my personal opinion, and a lot of people will probably disagree with me, but I just think that the song sounded really good when it was all clean and bluesy, and this version is more TV-show-theme-tune-ish, or more generic rock or something.

Iunno, it works well together as a whole, but I'm definitely liking the live version more :LOL:
Still a great song ofc.

Oh and I'm liking the new OD pedal :LOL:

For a lot of this, I do actually agree with you. I mean I like this demo, but a little part of me prefers the rawness of the live version. I actually kinda miss all the mistakes and bum notes. This ones a little too (I dont wanna say polished because it still needs work, but...) polished. I actually get what you mean about the TV theme tune thing :LOL:

I disagree, needs more of the distorted bits.

Edit: and I liked the new "bits where the guitar sort of goes up a half step before playing the next bit.. it's difficult to describe :LOL: First appears at 0:22" :phu:

Haha, the vocal distortion was one of my only contributions to the mixing phase of the recording. I was all like 'DAN, PUT DISTORTION ON THIS ONE BIT OF VOCALS, IT'LL SOUND EPIC LIKE MUSE' and Dan was all like 'NO IT WONT IT WILL SOUND LIKE SHIT' and I was just all like 'PUT THE DISTORTION ON YOU NOB I KNOW WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT HERE'.

Moral of the story is that I hate it and Dan should never have listened to me.

As for the going up a half step thing, I'm not exactly sure which bit you mean, but if its what I think youre talking about then thats something I'm still trying to make my mind up on. I play it differently every time we do it because I can't decide which I like best :$

Pretty good, I get a bit of a Black Keys vibe from it for some reason

I love you :kiss:

Actually its not too surprising because the bridge is almost a complete rip off of the ending to Tighten Up. If I remember rightly, I wrote the song after listening to Tighten Up and didnt actually copy it intentionally, but a little while later I realised that it was the same chords and everything. Shameful.

YES, that is exactly what I was thinking. Too processed/polished/that sort of thing.

Hmm, this is very difficult to describe. I've took the liberty of attempting to teach myself the song, in order to tab it, in order to show you :LOL:

I think that these are the chords for the very beginning bit..

E||--9-------9--------------7-----5------0----------|
B||--10-----9------12-----7-----5------0----------|
G||--11-----10----10-----7-----6------1----------|
D||--11-----11-------------9-----7------2----------|
A||--9-------11----11-----9-----7------2-----------|
E||-----------9------9------7-----5------0-----------|

However I've just realised this bit is unrelated as I think you go into 5th chords for the bit I'm talking about.. erm..

E||----------------------------------------------------------------------------|
B||----------------------------------------------------------------------------|
G||--11----------------------------------------------------------------------|
D||--11-----11----11----10----11-----10----9-----7------2----------|
A||--9-------11----11----10----11-----10----9-----7------2-----------|
E||-----------9------9------8------9------8-----7-----5------0-----------|

THAT BOLD BIT. That's the bastard.
I don't think you play that live, and in my opinion it sounds much better without it.

Massive props to you Harley, you were actually nearly spot on :LOL:

I now know the bit you were on about, and yeah thats the bit I'm indecisive about. I tend not to play it loud because the full chords as I usually play them tend to fill out the sound a bit more in a live situation, but I put them in for the recording just to mix things up a little and add a little variety. I can see what you mean though. Gonna need a think about which I use in the future. I was actually planning on playing those parts with the fuzz pedal, which does sound somewhat more preferable, but alas time constraints put an end to that.

But still, massive props for tabbing it so closely :D
