Frigging awesome song! MUSE have out done themselves, I thought it'd be impossible for them to do anything better than there previous stuff...but SMBH, been put to shame by KoC...though, SMBH is still freaking awesome!

Rock on baby!

The vocals, the drums, the electric, the bass! All amazing, the most anthemic operatic muse song there is. rock on!

If I were to say that the last half of the song was perhaps the best Muse I've ever heard it would be an understatement. This is better than Sing For Absolution. This is better than Plug In Baby. Hell, it's better than Fury. The only way this could be better is if I could make out the lyrics in the first half of the song.

well ive just listened to it. i would love the rest of the set, but heres the thing,
the song is MASSIVELY GOOD, an its curious.

Why?

well the oooh bit at the start had me raise an eyebrow, thinking
What the holyfuck?

an then i sorta grooved with the rest of the song, found the electronic bit a bit wierd, and strangely satisfying in a alcohol withdrawl style....

I have mixed feelings. First thing that came to my mind when I was listening to KOC was the band Hammerfall and that's not a very good sign.

Worse still, KOC actually sounds like power metal, the genre of music that Hammerfall represtents. If you don't know what power metal is check Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_metal). There's even one power metal band called Cydonia

Well, some of power metal bands are not that bad, sometimes there are pretty cool guitars and arrangements but mostly this style is associated with Vicking-type dudes or musicians looking like some medieval warriors or something playing quite pompous songs with not very intelligent lyrics. That's not very cool :$

Yes:120, No:2. I loved it of course.
I didn't know what's "Cydonia", so I searched and found this, if anyone's interested.
Sorry if it has been already posted.

"The Cydonia Codex: Reflections from Mars (Paperback)"

Beginning with the famous 1976 photograph of a mile-long formation found on the surface of Mars that strongly resembles a human face, Haas and Saunders offer side-by-side comparisons of the art and sculpture of pre-Columbian Mesoamerica with a set of corresponding geoglyphic structures found in the Cydonia region of Mars. The implication is staggering—Earth's history and humankind's origins could be very different than commonly believed.Men are from Mars. Kights must be Muse.

I'm not sure about the majority of it, but some of it is;

? ? ? ? ? (it's way too quiet)
for the sweep on the jug?
how can we move, when fools can be kings
don't waste your time, ? ? ? waste you ?

no-one's going to take me alive, the time has come to make things right.
you and i must fight for our rights, you and i must fight to survive. x2

I m not as ecstasic as anyone here thinking it s a "masterpiece" or the new "Citizen Erased" (while reading the newspapers reviews i was thinking so thought)

Well to me it s a good song no doubt but I don t like how the ending is sounding and i was expecting a more apocalyptic finale after what is the best part of the song :

Matt fucking insane guitar riff at 3m30-4 m time

That s the moment really insane on it and making the song worth it .

For the rest it s not as great as past songs like DarkShines or Citizen for sure .

Will wait the studio recorded version cause I think that one is better on the album with the famous Trumpet on it .

Knights Of Cydonia = Flash Gordon On Acid

Flash Gordon the character on Acid? Actually I can see that, I'm on Acid doing shit while this song plays.

But if you meant the Queen song, then I can't really see it, though it would fit on the Flash Gordon Album. Like, some kind of song that played during the attack on Ming with all those Birdmen, aye that'd work.

nice spot

I'm stressed, i have a deadline to meet on monday morning which i'm struggling to do the work for, so i'm stressed and a bit nervous, and so i went on a muse website and found a link to Knights of Cydonia live.

Okies, Mr. Clunge's song breakdown with timings!

------

0.08 - Amazingness of the descending scale.

0.15 to 0.43 - Matt's vocal/falsetto cries sound incredible, great drums too (SS style) and the bass sounds so powerful.

0.43 to 0.45 - Nice slide!

0.45 to 1.27 - Drum and bass style with cool soloey bits and stuff. Nice fast bassline.

1.27 to 2.03 - More falsetto! Phenominally powerful and the guitar chords that kick in after follow it really nicely, wailing then follows guitar.

2.03 to 2.31 - Proper verse starts, quite gallopy like they said in interviews. Bass just little jumps and the drums and drum and bass stylee again.

2.31 to 2.37 - Synth swirliness enters, kinda bridge bit

2.37 to 3.05 - Back to brilliant starting vocal and falsetto with the heavy crashing bass and mad drums.

3.05 to 3.07 - Nice slide!

3.07 to 3.14 - Heavy crash followed by whammy guitar and speedy hihat playing.

3.14 to 3.41 - This bit is absolutely orgasmic, probably the best bit of Muse I've ever heard. Everything stops except Muse singing about silly things and really cool synth/bass thing, very a la Apocalypse Please in the middle bit with the 'du-du-du-dup!', 'du-du-du-dup!', 'du-du-du-dup!' etc bit.

3.41 to 4.09 - Guitar comes back in playing with a choppy distorted sound, matt continues singing. Buildup on the snare...

4.09 to 4.37 - Everything crashes back in, crunchy bass, drums are very Led Zeppelin/John Bonham-esque. Amazing, fast, repeating riff that jumps around the fret-board. Similar to the riff in Debase in a way.

4.37 to 5.04 - Singing returns in typical fashion, back to the gallopy bass and drums. Like they said, it sounds like a man on a horse singing a song to keep his spirits up.

5.04 to 5.30 - Tremolo guitariness folkowing the chords of the vocal line, Matt does wee bits of falsetto.

5.30 to 5.46 - Song continues but in comes a great Bliss style synth bit that really carries the song onto higher levels of orgasm.

5.46 - A final crash and then feedback.

Both SBH and KoC have grabbed me instantly.

SBH was a grower - started to lose faith a bit....

KOC was as if Matt had kicked me in the bollocks and said "We're back!"

The bit in the middle where it goes all Bohemian Rhapsody?

That does things to me which I just cannot explain.

Does Knights of Cydonia express Muse's love for Nintendo? If you can't hear it, I suggest you listen to some more Zelda theme music.

Yeah me have thought this for a while hehe. If you listen to any Muse songs you can hear alot of Nintendo and Sonic Teamesque music.

There's a bit of Citizen Erased that sounds like Final Fantasy, Bliss sounds like Final Fantasy as well

I agree, it does in parts! Also, the low falsetto part (after the crazily high screamage in the middle) reminds me of Mars Attacks. :stunned:

no-one's going take me alive
typers (?) come to make things right

you and I was fight to survive (?)

lol, someone try !
No one's going to take me alive
The time has come to make things right
You and I must fight for our rights
You and I must fight to survive

As for the verse, I can't make out a word of that.

I like dit. It's chaotic and just wonderful.
Although, annoying at certain points, I don't mind. Supermassive is bette rin my opinion (except for the Oooh baby parts).
But KoC is better all in all.

Meh.

ok that makes a bit more sense,
I'm not sure about the "the time has come" part, it really sounds like he's singing "the diapers come"

lol seriously, I hear a "p" in it

AAAAAH Knights of Cydonia is SO GOOD!!!!!

Awwwwww aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawwwwww wawaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaw, ooouh ouh oooooooouh ooooooooouh

So far I got this from the live track:
"Fools can be kings
Don't waste your time
Whyyyyyyyyy?
Whyyyyyyy aaw aaaaww whyyyyyyyyyyy awww awww whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy?
No one's going to take me alive
Time is counting, make things right
You and I must fight for a rise
You and I must fight to survive
No one's going to take me alive
Time is counting, make things right"

Maybe they're some mistakes...

Am I the only one to think that this song sounds a LOT like RHAPSODY??? (power of the dragon flame, rain of a thousands flame, emerald sword, etc...)
