Thanks :D, yea they did, aluminium plate on the front, texture aluminium paint on the back and side and headstock, cost alot though :-S

i'm thinking of building one from scratch (or at least get a routed blank body from warmoth) and doing another one with different pickups and effects in it but in the proper shape (likes yours) once i've bought a new amp.

What is the scale length and radius of the Mattocasters (Official ones)?

Im just wondering if its a reshaped Les Paul type guitar.

So what is the scale length and the fretboard radius?

The scale length of the Laser is 25.5", same as a strat/tele, and I believe it has a standard 12" radius. It's reasonable to assume the other guitars have the same specs.

edit: It's his mate; who now owns that guitar, Jaicen just built it.

I didnt' work from any blue-prints, I basically designed the guitar myself using common measurements. The neck is completely custom built (by me) to have a deeper angle on the headstock, and a very narrow width. Sorry.

Actually that stuff bends real easy if you take some care and use a little gentle heat. If you're too rough with it or it gets too hot the mirror will distort or bubble, but it's certainly a whole lot easier than bending and filing Alu!

And FWIW, the chick is HOT!

Hi there, I'm new :D

I'm considering building a guitar inspired by the Mattocaster, a cross between a Tele and a Jag. The only problem is the chrome/metallic finish. I've neither the resources or the experience to do it myself. Other than Sims, is there anywhere else in the UK that will do it for a *reasonable* price?

very funny. you should be a comedian

i was actually trying to inadvertently suggest you design your own guitar if you're getting it done custom, as if you want to get something like a manson it will only really be worth getting one from hugh.

if you're getting it made by someone else, why not have some creativity with it and incorporate something original that suits your own needs, rather than something matt thought up a while back that isnt really original now? i can think of a fair few things i'd love to include on a guitar if i were able to get one made for me

Wood: Sipo (Utile in english?) mahogany like. Sustainer, Gfs P90 & Crunchy Pat too (second pic). Killswitch.

and the last, twin sis, for a good friend:

Same wood, "Star-cracked" mirror top, gotoh tuner, Gfs Mean90 & Dream180. Diy FazzFucktoyr. Killswitch. Maybe 'youtub'd' this one soon.

I'm working on a MoC-bass (luthiery thread). And, another friend would buy the Black one. If yes, I think I'll refinish the first (shiny ali top) with textured grey back, not shiny top, Motherbucker and new P90 (hb size) in neck position. A mix of 'Shatter' and 'Delorean' (Delorean 'Mb1').

@hi Phill,

I bought the wood to a good guy on a luthier-messageboard (i believe he works n a sawmill). I bought two "pieces" of wood for make bodies. This first for the MoC and the second for a Telecaster with a bubinga top. Not finish but I think trying to finish it if I have time, 'Manson Tele' like. Spoiler :

Sipo is a very good mahogany-like

Ohi James,

The body is in my garage for quite some years. The project has not progressed, it was for a friend who had the idea to put a lot of crap in it (midi ribbon, FuzzF modified, some stuff ..). And finally, he would be simpler. But, but this is the guy who wants to buy the Blackie.

So, I'll maybe keep that body, and try to do something. The Elec-cavity is really huge. In "L" shape. I reduced the thickness of the body to put a 'back wood' for cover everything.

There is a thin Maple layer between the Bubinga and Sapele too, looks good.

I may have one or two other pics. I'll edit this post if..

Very old pics, it would look a bit of that.

I love this Mansion Tele, I could try to do something like this

But it's off topic d: (ohh non, isn't a MoC-replica thread)

looks good - not sure about having all the extra electronics and stuff on a fancy piece of wood like that, but if it's already been routed, i guess it doesn't matter.

i wonder how a maple board would look? my quilt top has a maple board, and while i love how it looks and think that a maple board is best for it, something just looks great about that ebony board with a black pickguard (referring to that manson tele you posted)

ggeb
25-07-2010, 11:35 PM
Maple fretboard looks good with this kind of top (quilted or flammed maple) like your Manson Tele, yes, but I prefer, personnaly, rosewood fretboard. (& ..dark-rosewood, Ebony..) :)

I take this post to ask you. These two 'Tele Manson' are you? The second, yes ? but the first, too ?

http://a.imageshack.us/img175/3448/13291large.jpg

http://a.imageshack.us/img30/4163/13301large.jpg

-----

With flammed maple, looks güd too, but Quilt'd is better.. :)

http://a.imageshack.us/img808/8844/17551large.jpg

Edit: For the body-Tele-bubinga top .. Not routed for the moment. There is just the big elec-cavity. If I keep this body for me, the guitar will be very simple... just a Telecaster.

james90
25-07-2010, 11:47 PM
That's cool.

The one in the middle is mine. I've got one similar to the one on top which I bought a year after - it's birds-eye and rosewood, rather than flame maple.

That guitar had the most amazing flame neck I've seen

http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i87/BlackHolesAndRevelations/miscguitarstuff/Image208-1.jpg

I don't know what I like more to be honest...for looks, I think in this case, I'd prefer maple, but for sound, it's hard to say. In feel, I prefer rosewood, but..that wouldn't really work in this case at all. either ebony or maple:

http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i87/BlackHolesAndRevelations/Gear/random/manson/quilt/1756_1_large.jpg

The only practical use I can see for a built in delay is like at the end of Hyper Chrondiac Music, when you can change the time settings and make it make weird noises, without having to be Jonny Greenwood and bending down to change the pedals.

Plus, the Behringer delays are pretty good, for the money. Comparable to much more expensive delays.

I just used some old and cheap equipment that I had at home instead of selling or smashing it on stage :)

And it's not just a delay what I put into it...
First is Boss MT2 distortion > push button kill switch > Behringer delay.

And I admit it... the way I did the body work is the most funky thing in the world :D

I've got a factory made silver glitter Manson replica, should I still post it on here if I haven't made it from scratch? Granted, I am modifying it myself (new pickups, painting the headstock, different knobs, different tuners etc.)

No it wasn't personally made for me and I've no idea which factory made them either, just bought it from a guy on Ebay who said he had the last few. It does seem pretty legitimate though, not just him trying to pass it off as factory made. Apparently there were 100 of them produced? Mine was #99 ha :p

I'll take a picture tomorrow seen as I don't have any on the computer. I'll do a few angles and show the headstock which wasn't painted nor had any type of branding on it which seemed a bit odd. Mind you, it is just a super cheap version of a normal Manson so less quality is definitely expected (the chips and dents will just be from my silly antics with it though ).

It's not a 'normal Manson'. Mansons make custom guitars, the guitar you have is the shape Matt Bellamy orders from Hugh manson, a custom guitar builder. He doesn't make one shape.

It was pretty dodgy when it first arrived but it's not so bad now but ugly?? The wood looks a bit 'off' but the scaling seems just right and the finish on the body is gorgeous when it sparkles in light

Oh and when I said 'normal Manson' I just meant the shape, sorry.

Electricmuser96
28-10-2011, 06:55 PM
Yeah that's the one I was thinking of, what's the playability like?

When I first bought it: horrible. The action was way off, the nut was much too high and the tuners are still stiff as hell.

Now: Not too bad. I sorted the action out and shaved the nut down so now I'm just saving for some decent tuners. The fretboard is...ok I suppose, a couple of frets are unbalanced and it needs a good oil (getting round to all of this). It's probably a long way off the quality of a real Manson but considering I'm gonna use it to make future mattocasters (thinking of a tremelo bridge) of my own and I bought it pretty cheap then it's not too shabby .

Yeah anything for £100 would be a hell of a long way from a real manson.

I've never had the pleasure of playing a real Manson and the price tag of £3500 is a bit hard to reach for a 15 year old so this was my only option really :$ But like I said I'm gonna use the body to make my own Manson-esque guitars that suit me :)

Try an E-Shape if you're gonna do one of Mansons guitars. I'd be nice to see one other than the half built one by Dom :chuckle:

Don't worry I'm in the same boat as you. Although I admit I lol'd when you're replying to MFC saying that you're 15 and couldn't afford a Manson.

I was planning on making one with a floating tremelo bridge, either a matte black or perspex mirror finish, fernandes sustainer as a neck pickup (not sure about the bridge pickup), maple body and neck, rosewood fretboard, 24 frets.

i wouldn't recommend maple for the body. probably would end up being really bright sounding. and heavy.

Ash then?

It depends what qualities you want from the guitar. ash will sound different from mahogany for example, which will sound different from alder...same with weight. there are loads of wood types you can use.

But not many guitars have maple bodies, especially solid bodies.

So if I'm looking for a light, solid body what should I go for? (Not sure how to describe the sound I want)

definitely ash. it's fairly lightweight, and the sound is pretty balanced.

what is the difference in sound between alder and mahogany?

alder is probably more focused in the upper mids/treble range. it has that 'springy' (?) sound to it.

mahogany is very heavy in the lower mids, punchier, and darker i guess

for what it's worth, i'd say ash is right in the middle of these two.

Good stuff, ash sounds perfect. Cheers :)

Ok I've decided on an ash body, maple neck and matte black finish with sparkle/glitter. Not sure whether or not to paint the neck yet but it should take about a year to make and check everything's done right.

i'd just put a clear satin or gloss finish on the neck. probably easier than dealing with a matte finish and glitter, especially if the glitter starts coming off after a while. (this isn't a problem for the body, but i don't know about the neck)
