It's awesome. Gives obvious reasons for that Depeche Mode slot as well!

Is it definately MOTP though?

On first listen:

The intro makes me want to sing:

"You and me baby aint nothing but mammals so lets do it like they do on the discovery channel"

Singing starts..hmmmm, Radiohead...

Fucking drum speed gunfire! Sweet...

Singing melody is not that interesting..

beatcha by a couple minutes buddy, haha. i like this song. someone was right though about the vocal melody not being too interesting. it's one of those songs that keeps driving on without really any contrast or change. was a tad dissapointed by that, but overall, it should be great, especially in the context of the album.

This sounds nothing like "enjoying the silence" at all. The general style of the song is obviously inspired by depeche mode, but linking it to a specific song is rediculous.
Well okay, linking it to THIS song is ridiculous, MOP probably sounds like another Depeche mode track.

P.S. MOP?? Cold as Ice baby!

Yeah but tonnes of people had already said it sounded like Depeche Mode. If Haze is going to look like he knows his stuff, he has to come up with something specific.

yeah it does sound a lot like that depeche mode song, the 30 second amazon clip that is. it's even got the drum interlude type part. maybe it's a complete coinsidence. this song's definately better than supermassive black hole (what isn't), but not in the least bit better than what i've heard of knights of cydonia.

Eek - flashback to low budget TV series.

Anyway...

I was wondering where the arpeggiated progressive nightmare had gone - could this be it? I just happen to be listening to Erasure at the moment and MOP reminds me of some of their mid-90s stuff - minimalist melodies, lots of arpeggios and layered vocals. I can hear the DM reference, though. And Violator wasn't that good.

Oh yeah, and I like what I saw on TRL - thanks for the link.

Don't know if anyone's mentioned this, but the mp3 here is 4 minutes 25 seconds long whereas the album version is supposed to be nearly 6 minutes. So maybe we have yet to hear the 'best 10 seconds Muse have ever done' :)

I hope so. Anyway, good tune *thumbsup*
it was fake!fake i tell you! the only "rumour" about the track length of MOTP was by that guy hoodoo who tricked us all!

Right, I've listened to it a couple more times, and the things that came to mind were early 80s polyphonic synths (that sound that goes hish), the Pet Shop Boys, and Siouxsie and the Banshees' 'Happy House'.

And the TRL camera crew and editor need a slap.

I haven't felt like this since June 2001 and September 2003 :D

I've recently turned 22 and i've found myself getting cynical to absoloutely everything. Its fantastic that i still get all child-like in my excitement about Muse. Absoloutely love the band. YES!

Morgan Nicholls, now effectively Muse person #4.

He's only playing live though, about 40% of the time the band said. I.e. He will be playing additional parts in all the new songs, cutting down the amount of backing used.

but if so why would they have played it at that lil' gig the other day...they wouldn't have played a 'filler' song which is what you are imply'in in a set of like 2-3 songs....

it just wouldnt happen. i'm not saying it's like interlude, just some albums (from various artists) will have a song that is empowered based on it's album placement. it never ends up a single or anything, but in the schematics of an album it's stronger b/c of it's placement.

but all in all, it seems like they're trying to test out different songs at each show, along with the single, just to see how they translate live. prepping for the tours.

Of course you do. People are always preaching this "Everyone has their own opinions and they're all equally valid" stuff to me but thats not emotionally satisfying is it?

What you really want to believe is that people only hold opinions contrary to yours in order to annoy you. Which is probably true.

People are so rubbish.

Anyway, I don't respect other peoples opinions, just accept them.

I know they're wrong, but if they want to be wrong it's upto them :D.

I like the song. The mix of dance stuff with heavy drums and bass is cool.

Oh is it? Well it shouldn't be. You ought to fix them. You ought to go and fix them good and proper.

I'm not trying to be. I'm telling it how I see/hear it. And Starlight is DULL AS DISHWATER.

Yeah because at least it sounds different, as opposed to sounding like Every Other Muse Song Ever [Starlight].

Actually, my first thought when I heard that intro was "Paul Oakenfold".

Love it, by the way. I think a bit too much.

I think i'm a little bit obsessed with this song, my play count is 50 already :$

I don't like the ending

That is all
Lol, and that magazine said, "the last 10 seconds of map of the problematique is probably the best work muse has ever done."

I tottally agree with you, the ending is not very... endlike. And that magazine has some shit cd reviewers.

Well wouldn't that mean that we haven't actually heard that last 10 seconds yet? Because I really don't see anyone thinking that ending was the best thing ever. Or maybe it just sounds a lot bigger on the album or something. Either way, there's gotta be some explanation for that comment other than "the reviewer is a shit"

Does there? I've seen reviewers say some stupid things before.

There doesnt have to be a different explanation, but there could be. Wasn't the insturments on playback anyway. I do believe that was the ending.
The reviewer was shit.

Yeah well maybe it was just that. But you'd think professional reviewers wouldn't be so bloody gash. I don't reckon anyone could think that ending was the best thing Muse have ever done.

maybe he hates the song and loves the fact that it just ends suddenly
