there...really aren't too many of us, eh? i think looking in this thread itself will already tell them how unjustified their trip here may be. much as i wish they'd come, i really dunno if enough people here know of their music enough or at least heard of them just enough to be curious to check them out live (and leave a total Musehead convert).
we're a rather concert-starved country, and they don't exactly get loads of airtime here. in fact i don't think i've ever heard them on mainstream radio programs (which i only ever switch to when i'm driving and forgot to bring CDs on board...which is too often, unfortunately, as they don't play stuff i fancy so it usually ends up as background noise). i've only ever heard them once or twice on those more obscure evening rock selection thingies...which prolly contributes to the factor of why we're so starved in the first place, other than the obvious 'too much jumping through immigration hoops', of course.
which is why that little airplane up there is really, REALLY ironic.
le sigh.

hmmm was just listening to the session of loveline which Muse were guests on and about 53 minute-ish into the show, Bellamy lets drop something that's right interesting.
"...but yeah, I'm looking forward to next year. We're going to do like a tour of South-East Asia. We're playing, well, also Japan but we're also playing (The) Philippines, Thailand and Malaysia and stuff...looking forward to it...I've never been there before but I'm looking forward to that very much, yeah."
oh, when Bellamy was listing off those countries, someone added Indonesia but I dunno who. Maybe it's Howard, cos if it was, then yeah, Indonesia too.
so...yeah. i know it's next year but better keep yourselves alert starting now, m'sian fans. tho judging from the rate this thread is getting response, or rather NOT getting response, i doubt you guys will know about it til the media here picks it up and bites you in the ass when they do. :indiff: :noey:
come on, people, wake up!
EDIT: well guess the Indons already picked up on it. xD just saw their thread. eventho it's a little dead now, it still boasts more life than here. c'mon guys, make some noise, show the guys that coming to Malaysia will NOT be wrong decision. Don't make them hesitate to come here!!!
EDIT 2: OK found another older M'sian thread further on but well, i've already posted here so *shrugs*

oh hello! haha i found another Malaysian Muse Fans thread. cool :D
anyway, even if Muse is gonna tour SouthEast Asia, i doubt that they'd come to KL, because like you said, not many Malaysians know of Muse. which is extremely gay if you ask me! i've got a feeling they'd tour Singapore instead, which isnt that bad since its just below us. :)
oh, i've checked their tourdates for January 2007, and i dont see any mention of any countries in SE asia. all i see are mostly in Australia.. but then again its not confirmed yet. maybe musewiki.org will update it soon enough :D

they just might. contrary to popular belief, they do have quite the fanbase here actually. although i'm not quite sure if it's big enough to fill the bukit jalil stadium--not that the venue is all that massive, just whether or not the fanbase and musicheads here are interested enough but at least a medium sized venue like the kiara equestrian club will have a sizeable turnout, i reckon. given the 'nature' of the place tho, i'd rather it not be there. but since i can't think of any other decent places, i guess it'd have to do. people'll just have to remember to bring those menthol oil and nose pegs...
i'm hoping for some smaller club venues thrown in, though, like the recent We Are Scientists at Zouk KL one but Muse might just be able to command a crowd that's bigger than smaller venues like that over here now. couple of years ago these smaller venues might've worked maybe but certainly not anymore now, i don't think. i can still hope, though...
that, and i really don't wanna travel too far to catch them live, worth the trouble as they may be i probably simply won't bother...especially if it involves crossing borders of any kind =( so it'd be really great news if they do make a short stop here. heck, i don't even mind paying the price for the best seats, as long as i don't have to go out of my way too much to attend...that's what the band's supposed to do. we do the payin', they do the travellin'.

oh boy, lol can 16 year olds enter Zouk if Muse performs there? i doubt it. so i PRAAAY that they dont have a performance there or i swear i will cry my eyes out if my fake id doesnt work.
oh wait, by next year i'll be 17. that KIND OF heightens the chance of me entering... i guess. sigh.
and i agree with you on the whole we do the payin', they do the travellin', but this could possibly be their first and last stop in south east asia (if they do come in the first place), and you'd miss it even if its in singapore? :O
i sure wouldnt. i just hopppe and praaaay that their concert will be at the beginning of the year and not after that.. because of the ultimate exam of all exams! SPM. die.
who do you think would know of Muse's tour dates next year? besides crazy_bob.

05-09-2006, 05:07 AM
ohhhh right. i forgot about the underaged aspect. but what i truly meant was on top of playing one bigger venue for people of all ages, i'm hoping that they'd play a couple of smaller ones alongside.
and haha if i have to travel to watch them i'd rather go further than singapore. this way i can at least do some sightseeing in a country that's totally foreign. two birds with one stone. besides, it's not as if i've never done it before. i did just that for the RHCP concert and BDO in Perth in '00.
so if they're coming down to SEA but not to M'sia, no, i prolly won't bother to travel. i'll just youtube their live shows 'til i save enough to go to the UK or US or wherever (Italy's high on my list). i'll just plan my travelling dates to coincide with their touring ones. xxD
and i think their SEA tour could actually be early next year, possibly the first quarter. i got wind that it might possibly be as soon as March/April-ish. but things could change tho so ultimately, i dunno.

It's highly unlikely that Muse would play in smaller venues.
If Muse would tour SEA but not the Philippines, I think I'd still do what I can to go and see them.
Actually seeing them live > A hundred thousand awesome live YouTube videos of them.
And I just can't wait that long. I'm still in college; most likely it would be a long time until I could afford to go to those places where they usually play. :)
Lastly, like debbie said, if Muse dropped by SEA to play, that'd probably the last time they'd do so, so why miss the opportunity?
They're playing in Australia early next year...since it's near, probably they could fly to SEA soon after?

i was thinking of the exact same thing... :stunned:
and about watching them live, i was watching their absolution tour in Glastonbury on dvd... and i was thinking to myself, "damn, i HAVE to watch them live before i die or life would not be complete!"
plus, i'm still in school, and Muse is about to be 30. i'm afraid that they might stop recording and settle down soon! and then they wont be touring anymore and if i miss it, i will not die happy. :| so why not just watch them whenever you have the chance! lol. which is soon, i hope.
and vspirit, i envy you! i'd KILL to be able to watch BDO. and sorry if all this talk is depressing. haha :D didnt mean to :P
vspirit
06-09-2006, 08:27 AM
haha they're not 30 yet, i don't think...i think two of em still have another couple of years or so to go. and 30 is when life really begins for most, you know. and you can actually settle down at any age as proven by, of all people, the youngest member of this band...who's already settled down at what? 19??? xDD dunno bout the other two. bellamy still seems a rather long way from settling down but even if he does, i doubt it'd be what'd stop the band from making music. if anything, it'd be the band feeling that they've done enough before pulling the plug. but then again you have bands like the rhcp, dt, tfl, u2, and many more who've been around for ages...who's to say muse won't as well, eh?
and hey, you're still a student right? chances are, if you ever pick to further your tertiary education overseas in one of the more commonly picked foreign countries (UK, US, OZ, etc), you'd get to see whatever festivals that go on there. and sides, you're young. who's to say what'll happen in the future? as such, i wouldn't worry too much about not getting any chances, if i were you.
vc2190
06-09-2006, 02:12 PM
30 doesn't mean they're that old.... they may lose abit of thier energy that made them one of the best live acts in the world but their still the best...their in their prime.. People are starting to notice who muse ARE!!
mynameisdebbie
07-09-2006, 03:51 PM
thats a good idea, studying overseas and watch them. a friend of mine went to Aussie and went to a dashboard confessional concert too, haha i never thought of that actually! but i cant, unless i get a full scholarship... which is a definate no cause i'm such a lazy kid. but i shall work hard! :D

well the fact that most bands would rather deal with your country's authorities than ours might contribute to the possibility. our immigration department is governed by ahempigheadsahem after all.
now that i think about it, i think why some bands choose to play smaller venues with age restrictions rather than the biggers ones without here is simply cos it's easier to be granted a permit that way. big shows = red tape. endless amount of it. our immigration loves it, thrives on it, sits on it.
that, and our country is more concert starved than yours, all of which are thanks to the reason i've already stated above, and not for the lack of fans(which i'm sure you're already well aware of) like i first gathered. fact, not opinion.
and herewith sprung our pessimistic attitude.

14-09-2006, 06:32 AM
you have a mutual friend when it comes to muse? that's so...well, that must be nice...i don't really get to talk much bout them or music in general since the friends i used to gush about music with are all pretty much elsewhere in the world now...and i don't have too many of those to begin with.
and what little gay frens i have are into stuff like ADnD, magic the gathering, warcraft and anime (ok, even the straight ones like bout the same stuff) so i'm pretty much on my own when it comes to my love for loud music (and by extension, muse). that or they're into other kinda bands, those with the atmospheric elements in their music, kinda like massive attack and björk and portishead and archive and stuff (tho i like them enough to listen occasionally, i don't really like them enough to follow or know too much about their stuff) or chick rock stuff like pj harvey and fiona apple...=((
and the straight people i know who are into music like those nu-metalish stuff like SOAD (which i quite like myself, but not as much as muse) and metallica and korn and yanno the drill...and from these bunch, not too many of them are into brit stuff, i'm afraid....other than the beatles. i don't even know anyone who's into radiohead. well not anyone i'm close with, anyway. passing acquaintance, maybe....which is not nearly enough, even.
so if i ever wanna talk about bands i like, it's sadly confined to online forums. and when i find fellow m'sian fans in said forums, well, eventho in reality we're prolly as far away from each other emotionally as the rest of the members from other parts of the world, it still just feels closer somehow, yanno? just an illusion, i know, but it has to be enough for now, i spose. =)
so yeah i'd make sure we treasure each other if i were you two...

and Nutcracker...yeah, well, I don't exactly lose sleep over it or anything but sometimes when others talk about going to shows with their mates or something, it makes me feel a little lonely. whenever i attend rock concerts, i always go alone. but hey, i can make friends there. heh heh...but the ironic thing is, most times, i end up talking about everything BUT the music with some of the people there...which is a good thing, i suppose...

and you see, all this while i was thinking that we were the only ones who loved muse in malaysia, until we found this thread. lol

yeah, like i said in one of my earlier posts in this thread, they've even all and all out mentioned malaysia (among a few other SEA countries) in the loveline show they did a couple of months back or so when they were doing a short tour of the states.
i'd love to be jumping with joy and all but i don't think i'll do just that yet cos as much as i'm truly impressed and grateful that they even consider us at all in the first place much less actually making it here, there's a high chance the immigration might f*ck that up for us. i'm not a pessimist by nature but well, there's reason to be wary when the m'sian gov't is involved, don't you think?
either way i'm not gonna set myself up for disappointment so i'll jst look forward to seeing them elsewhere further than SEA someday, if not in M'sia itself next year. hell, i might even eat my words and go to one of the SEA countries they do end up playing -- i'd choose thailand over s'pore cos i've never been to thailand before and would love to look around but tickets in s'pore will be easier to get...guess i'll decide when the time comes. =)

i doubt the immigration people are THAT bad.. i mean, they let bands like simple plan, we are scientists, inxs and even linkin park to come! not forgetting the pussycat dolls and such. so why not muse?
but after what you said, i'm not gonna get my hopes up then. :(
and as for travelling to some other country to watch them, i think i'm the only fool in malaysia who hasnt been to singapore yet :$ ! so i'd love to go there :) IF, i have my parents' permission, of course.
vspirit
16-09-2006, 06:51 AM
they ARE that bad. why else do you think so little international acts come here? i read somewhere that linkin park actually had to jump through endless hoops with the immigration just to hold their big show here and eventho i'm not into them, i still give them my kudos for persevering where many other acts would've just said "f*ck it, all these trouble ain't worth it." it means that LP thinks malaysians are worth the trouble and that's enough to induce a warm and fuzzy feeling inside.
tho i didn't go and am not into them still. xxxxD still, lots of people went and i'm glad their show was a huge success. and while i won't be doing anything to contribute to it, i wish them more success in their careers and future undertakings.

You see, Malaysian gigs are much better sometimes. Recently in SG there was Slipknot , Mayhem    , Oasis :), also Linkin Park, and now Yngwie Malmsteen and Slayer too :p . I didn't go to any of them. But i love Incubus. Y they skipped SG i can already guess.
SLIPKNOT went to singapore?! how come i didnt hear about that!! lol. their masks scare me. but i love the vid where Dom steals one. SIT THE FCK DOOWWWNNN!!! hahahaha! SO hilarious.
oh! you forgot to mention Coldplay. :D i considered going for that one but didnt in the end.

Yeah COLDPLAY! I must've been depressed, and my subconscious mind failed to remember them. I so regret not going... I cldn't afford the mosh ticket at that time and decided to not go at all.
Hhaha yeah Dom was so funny. It always cracks me up when i watch it! Can u guys get a copy of any of their singles there? Do u have Inside the Muscle Museum?

i'm not a singles collector so i can't really be sure but i don't think we have as much a variety as we used to about a decade back or so. but i think it won't be too much of a hassle to get the record store to import it for you...
as for the book, yeah, i buckled and got mine from the kino here. i was pretty amazed with the selection they had. there were quite a bit of books for...alternative...thinkers too.
and yes, i'm malaysian.

rock corner, too, but the bangsar village branch. i kinda bought loads of stuff from there so the guy who manages the place gives me a slightly better discount than most...i hope.
and i'm wondering if i could ask him to keep an eye out for news of the band coming over and if he catches wind of tickets going on sale, if he could grab a couple of the good ones for me while it's still hot........................cos if left to my own devices, the concert could've come and gone and i wouldn't even realize -.-;;

but if you're still curious about my job, well, what i'm supposed to do is to teach foreigners like the Japanese and Korean how to communicate better in English, but what I do for real is just chat up a storm with them, in whatever language that gets through, body (language) included. but shhh don't tell my boss. i'm also secretly trying to convert some of them to some of the music i listen to, which as you know, includes you-know-what. ;)

and thats so cool, your job. you get to speak with foreigners! no wonder your grammar and vocab is so wide. maybe you could ask them to teach you something! i know i'd do that.
oh, and if you do get tickets IF muse is actually coming, dont forget to inform us heree!!

Cool.. I'm sure some of the japanese know about Muse. The other day i saw a japanese guy and he was wearing a Radiohead tee, so i came up to him and said, "you must be a fan of them" (points at Tshirt). Then he was so excited, as you know how japanese ppl are so animated.:D I asked if he listens to Muse and he said "so-so". :p

Hullabaloo will be damn worth it. If you have the extra cash you might want to get the Absolution Tour DVD, although it's not as good as hullabaloo in terms of content. And buy the Hullabaloo soundtrack while you're at it. Or if u want i can *coughsendcough*. :D

Yeah its Glasto on that DVD. Plus extras like The Groove in the states, TSP and Stockholm at earls court, and TOADA and Endlessly (my fave on the dvd) at wembley stadium. You'll find all the behind the scenes in the Hullabaloo DVD, plus the corey impersonation.

or maybe he got the "mr. bellamy, if you, yes and we do mean JUST you, don't behave, we WILL sue your pants off. yours, not your band's. and we really DO mean it this time so if you're planning to go overboard again, make sure you make it look accidental enough that your insurance is able to cover the payout" speech.
too bad. i kinda like it when muse do it, even if i absolutely despise it when some other band do the same.
when some other band do it, they may come out looking all ill-contrived. but when a band like muse do it, i dunno, maybe they already have a reputation for having a complete nutjob frontman, who would pass more for an accountant-whose-pay-is-used-to-primarily-fund-his-geeky-hobbies rather than the songbird-rock-star-who-prolly-uses-a-considerable-portion-of-his-earnings-to-fund-his-geeky-hobbies he really is, it doesn't seem as, if at all.
some days he's perfectly well-behaved, and some days the nutjob part in him might wig out a bit, which actually is an indication that he's having a good day, enjoyed playing the show and feeling oh-so-bubblyly-bubbly-energetic. or i reckon it's that anyway.
so he sometimes still does it, but it's more an indication of his mood than anything. he's mellowed out quite a bit over the years (ever since absolution, if you asked me. maybe having a naggy future-psychologist gf helps) so it prolly isn't as common an occurence as before.
i like how howard was pratically belly dancing behind his kit in the inland invasion show though, haha. some might find it very, uh, unsexy however xD. maybe he was feeling sassy that night. he seemed to me like he was thisclose to performing a striptease right then and there. which to me, IS gonna be very unsexy if he actually did o.O...
...and i think bellamy semi-trashed the stage a lil bit at the end, and he talked quite a bit, which to me, translates into the band having had a good night playing =).
no one should expect bands to behave like saints. no one should expect nuns to either.

Some nice writing there, Vspirit! But i saw an interview once, Matt said that the reason why they trash after their sets is because they felt that they didn't do enough for the crowd, or they screwed up a bit, or the sound was bad. So they have to end it off in a "nice" way.
But i seem to agree with you about them enjoying the show and then trashing stuff to end it off with a grande finale! Like in Earls Court after SS. I'm sure they enjoyed that gig, I sure did even though i've only seen some videos.:)

no long hair, no tattoos, er, not the in-your-face kind anyway, ability to act like pwoper english gents (with the image to back up) so they miiiiight just make it here. they have a better chance than most bands out there now. but i dunno how closely they will listen to some of the recent lyrics...if we're lucky, the guys would be willing to compromise should these people get restrictive on song content...
and with the climate being the way it is in this region, someone should really advise them to perform in bermudas or something.
on a slightly different note, thai snacks are divine.

I just thought of a set list that I hope they will do:
Con-Science
Starlight
Supermassive Black Hole
Hoodoo
City Of Delusion
Plug In Baby
Feeling Good
Space Dementia
Sunburn
Bliss
Map Of The Problematique
Invincible
Assassin
Knights Of Cydonia
then as encore:
New Born
Stockholm Syndrome
And then they figured that we totally rock, and they want to reward us, they decide to play another encore:
Citizen Erased
Take A Bow
Pretty hopeful. It's always good to dream i guess.

well there are a couple pictures floating around with them at this villa/chateau of sorts by the barbecue pit...and wolstenholme and bellamy were in bermudas, hawaiian shirts (or at least i seem to recall bellamy was in one) and flip-flops. can't remember what howard was in. tried diggin them up but as you can (or can't, in this case) see, no luck.
wolstenholme can quite often be seen in bermudas...well back when he was less tubby anyway...

...but what with the beer cans he's holding, it's already a downward spiral.
oh, and then there are those beachside shots with them in all their half-naked glory...
edit: forgot to mention, nice compilation. but unless someone here personally knows the band and can slip them a bribe of some sort, i highly doubt con-science will make it onto the list. and i'd replace Starlight with either Hysteria or Uno.

LOL thanks for the pics. I think his hair in the 2nd one is the best he's ever had. Did u know he shaved his hair again, now looks Absolution-ish? Oh yeah I think i remember i saw a clip of them in Australia on the beach LOL it must be so much fun to at least be in Tom Kirk's place.
Haha yeah I doubt they have ever played Con-Science live. I would be ecstatic if they come up with a setlist JUST for us South East Asians! :yesey:
Starlight is a little poppish eh? But i like it nonetheless.. I can't believe i forgot Hysteria! haha too many good songs. This is the only band where i love all the songs.

well since you made a setlist, ima gonna make one too. lots of thought went into this, mind you and i'll be happy if they'd play at least 80% of this in a show i'm present for:
1. Glorious
2. Assassin
3. Hysteria
4. Exo-Politics
5. Hyper Music
6. Showbiz
7. Citizen Erased
8. Darkshines
9. Invincible
10. Hoodoo
11. Uno
12. Falling Down
13. Apocalyse Please (or B&H, I'm fine with either of these)
14. Knights of Cydonia
Encore:
1. Take A Bow
2. Stockholm Syndrome
Not exactly my dream setlist but as close as it can get with reality serving as a guideline (given the fact that this is a BHAR tour, so most of the songs are gonna come from there). If I'm not restrained by that, it'd be quite something else, and will extend up to 21ish songs, like what Le Zenith got back in '01 *grin*
EDIT: just occured to me what you said about Starlight. yeah, some things are slow to sink in for me. like your lil compliment about my writing (thanks for that btw). anyway, about the song, it IS rather britpoppy but i'm not excluding it out of special hate for it or anything. i actually do think it's pretty and like it a lot. it's just that there are others that i'd rather listen to live than it, is all =).

I would love to be at your gig too! Glorious would be possible considering they played DES on their previous US tour. That as an opener would be sweeeet. Man i love that song.
Yeah Hullabaloo's setlist was made for the DVD, which makes it the best in my opinion. They played close to 20 songs in Earl's Court right? Not good enough.
After much pondering, I decided that Citizen Erased has to be played no matter what. One of the first few songs that made me fall in love with Muse. :)

lol hellooo! i'm back! and i've found out what the hell is wrong with my computer. its the monitor.. so now i'm using some chunky old monitor while the spoilt one gets fixed. woot. so anyway yeah since you guys made a setlist, i'll make one too :)
(in no particular order)
Take a Bow
Knights of Cydonia
Exo-Politics (i'd kill to watch them play that live, honestly)
Time is Running Out
Stockholm Syndrome
Supermassive Black Hole
Map of the Problematique
Assassin
Hyper Music
Dead Star
Plug In Baby
Muscle Museum
Falling Away With You (i've never seen it before. and i really like that song!)
Invincible
New Born
Unintended
gosh i wish i could put in more songs.
hmm, here's a thought. would you rather have Muse come here and play the ULTIMATE LIVE CONCERT EVER WITH AAAALL THEIR SONGS just once, and never come back again, or have Muse play their normal amount of songs but they can come as many times as they want to.
and as far as i can remember, Simple Plan wore bermudas in their concert last year.. i'm not too sure about Linkin Park though. couldnt get close enough :(

uh you know how for most bands, people have never seen them in bermudas before? but for this band, it's the other way around.
anyway, i'm gonna go with B if, and only if, every time they make a stopover, there's variety in their setlist, especially for the older tunes. BUT if they come in and out playing pretty much the same selection of old tunes, with the new ones being from whichever new album they've come to promote, i'd seriously rather go with A.

And welcome back Debbie!

i'd prefer it if they'd come back often too :) that way we get to see them more often and stuff and if we couldnt make it to the first time they come here, we could see them again whenever they come back! lol. and i'd love to see them live as many times as i can actually.

actually thinking back on it, i suppose i'll take back my other choice. them coming back here would be enough, doesn't matter what the heck they play, a show in itself can only mean good times, right? i mean as far as lives go, there's a pretty high possibility that they can do no wrong in that dept xxxxxD i hope they like the tropical weather of this region so much they can't get enough of it (like most typical gwailos do, naive forei*THE REST EDITED OUT FOR BEING INFO POTENTIAL TOURISTS DON'T PARTICULARLY NEED TO KNOW*) and keep coming back for more. cos hey, we have nice beaches here and the cost of things here is cheaper than in bahamas and hawaii or wherever, and we offer exotic southeast asian flavors when it comes to...various things....that you can't get in the same authenticity anywhere else. haha. kirk should also prolly think about retiring to this region.
and good on ya, debbie (assuming that really is your name). what does your job entail if you don't mind my asking?

lol yes Debbie is my real name. not Debra, not Deborah. Debbie. lol its weird i know, cause debbie is supposed to be like a nickname for Debra or Deborah. oh well :p i like it.
haha. and about my job interview, its nothing much. just applied as a part time sales assistant/promoter at Gap, 1utama. (note: its not open yet). my friend who went for the interview a few days before me got the job on the spot, but my other friend and i who went for the interview together got the "i'll call you" speech. so i'm guessing i didnt get it. haha. but oh well, i'll continue job-hunting once my exams are over. and if noone hires me, i'll probably work at where i worked last year, at Tangoo, 1utama.
if Muse does come, i hope they dont come this time of the year, or they'll probably have to wear singlets and shorts and masks.. you know, because of the "fake mist" aka jerebuu and all. (just so you'd know, i typed it to BM in case kwailous are reading this! haha) but we Malaysians arent that... bersopan like the hawaiians, dont you think? and what if they happen to shop at a random pasar malam and see their album on sale! i bet they're never coming back again. :$
but hey, i hope they dont notice all the negatives of Malaysia! we are a pretty decent country with nice islands and friendly people aaaaaand... we have fancy motorcyclists strutting their stuff on the road *coughmatrempitcough*

remember, bellamy did say the band don't care about people illegally downloading their songs. it's the record company's problem, not theirs. not directly anyway. dunno about their take on all-out piracy but for all we know, the band being the way they are, they might be flattered instead. some people can be weird like that, heh. mostly the alternative-thinking types.

yeah.. seems very Muse-ish to be like that. thats what i love about them (besides their music of course) :D their personality. they're not stuck up like other rockbands.. and i love the fact that they're FUNNY! lol watching them in some of their interviews on youtube makes me literally laugh out loud sometimes! and then i get weird stares from my family.. err. but you didnt need to know that. hehheh,

Yeah i love the outro riff of Microcuts so i figured it would be a great song to open up a gig :). Bass is so cool to learn. When you get better and learn Hysteria, you'll be so proud of yourself! I have my own Muse cover band but our vocalist is a girl  . Im on drums and i love it. You should try to learn bass. I started learning guitar on the acoustic and then learn guitar and bass riffs. It's easy learning with the internet. You should get Guitarpro.

heh, at the risk of sounding like a party pooper, here're my two cents on the subject. i actually don't think it's easy to be a rockstar. venue after venue for show after show, playing song after song usually the same ones over and over. your schedule is hectic day after day (during the mandatory a-year++-long tour to promote whatever new album you might've just released) as you try to please fan after fan. everything is fast, so fast. and with the kind of money you're making, everything you can't afford before, you can now. tempting, so tempting. and before long, if you get sidetracked and all your reasons take a dive downward, and get drawn into every temptation there is, you'll fall, and you'll fade.
it has its ups, lots of ups in fact (which had seduced and blinded one talented rockstar too many), but along with the perks there're always, ALWAYS drawbacks. why else do you think so many stars, especially rock ones, burn out so fast?
it's not easy to stay focused in the world of stardom. everyone starts out with a vision, but not everyone will be able to come out the other side in triumph. and even those who do manage it, don't come out unscathed.
some have what it takes, and some don't. those who do, you know they really love what they do and are in the business because of that one main reason. the rest are all salad dressing.
you want to get into it, fine. but make sure you're not doing it for all the wrong reasons.=) it's ok if you wanna make it cos it looks so fun, you're actually off to a good start even. but don't ever get or fall for the illusion that it's all easy peasy. cos the moment you do, well let's just say you're not off to that good start i was talking about. ^_~
otherwise, good luck with your bass-learning endeavor~~

two years?!?!?! fwoaaah, here its only 3 months! and you come back to civilization how many times a year/month/week?
lol i'm in a band too, as the vocalist. my God its scary :| i am possibly the most stage fright person in the wooorld. at our first (and only) gig at school mid-2006, my mouth was sooo dry on stage, i was so scared my voice was gonna crack. thank God we had 2 vocalists that time.. so she was there to er, calm me down i guess. haha. and it was a success! we were the best band there :D but now our bassist and second vocalist left! so er.. yeah we're still looking for a bassist.
and once i am able to play the bass to Hysteria while climbing up the stairs (like in Glasto, lol!), i'll be sooo happy and proud to say, I CAN PLAY THE DAMN BASS :D. haha. i can already play TIRO actually.. just veryy verry slowwwlyyy.....
and yeah rockstars normally turn to drugs, suicide and stuff right? or mushrooms. lol what's up with Muse and their mushrooms anyway?
and dont worry, i dont intend to be a rockstar.. not in Malaysia anyway. haha. this band thing is just a hobby.. or a bunch of friends just hanging out, making music.. thats all :) we dont do Muse though. :(

OMGOMGOMGOMG MALAYSIAN MUSE FANS!!! I only just found this thread. :D
I play guitar, drums, bass, piano and vocals and Muse is my #1 favourite band ever! Such an inspired group. This might sound corny but I can relate to the various experiences that Matt has expressed through his lyrics. The man is a musical genius. It's comforting to know I'm not the only eccentric, alternative-thinking type of person out there. :D
I've been obsessed with them since the Absolution era. After buying their album, I downloaded heaps of their previous songs and got the Hullabaloo DVD. Then I got the Glastonbury DVD. Now I have all albums and DVDs.....must get Manic Depression and Inside the MM too. My current Youtube collection of them is getting ridiculous now, so much stuff. And finally, I must see them live and perhaps even meet them too. Then my life will truly be complete.
Erm....yeah. They rock.
*EDIT - Man, I hate how most of my Malaysian friends assume Muse is emo. Ignorant bastards.

*EDIT - Man, I hate how most of my Malaysian friends assume Muse is emo. Ignorant bastards.
it's a trend these days to call everything you don't understand, or can't be bothered to understand, emo, didn't you all know? a fad, if you will. it's oh-so-convenient and we can't blame them cos it's not like we don't fall into the same traps ourselves sometimes, that is labelling something simply when we don't understand it. =) but damn, these people all sound so...so...young. and i don't mean physically.
no matter. if they ever get to see and listen to the band live with their very own eyes and ears, they'll realize. either that, or they'll come around eventually. if not, what's the phrase they use again...less man more share? ^_^
edit (very late in coming but since no one has replied yet, i see no point in posting a new reply): alternatively you can sit them down to the KoC video and tell them to call the band emo to your face after having watched that. i'm willing to bet that their minds will change. but while i can almost guarantee that as long as they're not blind or deaf, something different will come out from their mouths, i can't guarantee that it'll be no less derogatory. *snicker* cos after all, muse is the kind of band you'll either love very much or hate to the ends of the world. or so some say.
and nice to have you on board this lil' niche of ours, de7ilznite ^_^ this is one of the reasons why we all love the Internet despite all of its shortcomings. ^_~
But seriously i think being a rock star has got to be one of the best professions out there. Second would be an astronaut, for me. :D What's your dream job Spirit?
my dream job, huh? i think i'd like to either be one of the production crew of discovery travel and adventure, or someone in the creative gaming industry. vague description, i know, but when it comes to me, it's mainly the industry or a large aspect of it that i'm interested in, rather than just a small significant part of it. i guess i just like to be involved with something i'm interested in, to get my finger into the pie, so to speak. xD

I feel most welcome here. :D WE MUST INCREASE THE MALAYSIAN MUSE FANBASE!!! My younger brother shares my passion for them too and he's been telling all his highschool friends all about them. Hopefully the love will fully catch on.
Debbie, yeah i love music too much ey! I'm a beginner on the piano though. I can play mostly arpeggiated stuff eg Sunburn, New Born, Plug in Baby (transcribed to piano) and some other things. Would love to learn Space Dementia and the B&H solo someday. The first song i picked up on drums was TIRO, very fun to play. Moved on to Hysteria and SS next.
But of course, guitar is my priority. Learned most of their stuff, Hysteria, TIRO, PiB, New Born, MM, Unintended, SS, SMBH, Cave. Trying to move on to shred guitar now and my bass isn't too bad either. I've also modelled my vocals on Matt's voice, so I've got the whole falsetto thing going on. My housemates love hearing me sing. :D
But yeah, I actually got the Glastonbury DVD in Msia....it was pirated! :D Ah i feel terrible now. But I'm addicted to Hulaballoo, it's too brilliant.
And regarding emo, I've always thought it was referring to music that was trying a little too hard to show emotion, especially in the vocals. Muse doesn't really fit that descripton because Matt's singing is genuine and passionate. Listen to Citizen Erased. ;)
And TOADA.....wow, what a song. I really started to think about religion properly after reading its lyrics and contemplating what was trying to be expressed. Matt has inspired me in so many ways. I'm Muslim btw.
vspirit, you hit the nail right on the head. :)

yeah well, that's the original meaning but what i meant to say was that this word has been taken out of context, the way it's being used these days. which explains why some people term muse or whatever other band as that, when they actually aren't.
funnily enough, i haven't heard or seen anyone do that, not even when i was scouring the net for more info on them. tis the first time i'm hearing it, coming from you guys. well not you guys per se, but from your own experiences.
and i do remember somone complaining his singing being more technical than emotional. me, i don't really care to the degree of being so analytical. whatever sounds good, sounds good. *shrug* same way you can't explain when something smells good. it just smells good, end of story. it's the same for when something smells bad, too, of course. heh.
And TOADA.....wow, what a song. I really started to think about religion properly after reading its lyrics and contemplating what was trying to be expressed. Matt has inspired me in so many ways. I'm Muslim btw.
ah, in that case, Selamat Hari Raya. did you balik kampung? or are you just gonna muck around in this here city?
vspirit, you hit the nail right on the head. :)
eh heh heh, i love it when people say that to me. cept...i'm not quite sure which nail i am supposed to have hit so would you care to clarify...?

hello peoplee!! you are looking at the new waitress of TGIF, at *editted out to avoid any crazy random stalkers*! haha! :D eat there and when/if i'm serving you, say "muse rocks my socks" and watch me freak out! haha but man, i'm gonna hate waitressing cause its freakin tiring. but oh well, i need the money, plus my friends are working there too :D
Selamat Hari Raya de7ilznite!!!
edit (very late in coming but since no one has replied yet, i see no point in posting a new reply): alternatively you can sit them down to the KoC video and tell them to call the band emo to your face after having watched that. i'm willing to bet that their minds will change. but while i can almost guarantee that as long as they're not blind or deaf, something different will come out from their mouths, i can't guarantee that it'll be no less derogatory. *snicker* cos after all, muse is the kind of band you'll either love very much or hate to the ends of the world. or so some say.
the thing i hate about my friend who called Muse EMO, is that he wont give them a freakin chance! sure he likes the heavier stuff like stockholm and hysteria, but he still labels them as emo. that arse.
is Dashboard Confessional categorized under emo? cause damn it they're good :) and usually when a band is under the emo category.. it means you dont like it, and you dont understand it and dont intend to.. like what vspirit just said.
yeah i kinda did that... i put the vid on my blog to promote their new coming single and all.. but i doubt anyone will watch it. youtube's been a bitch lately. and that is extremely true.. Muse is a band you'll love with all your heart, or hate to the ends of the world. hardly anybody is in between. its Matt's falsetto that divides the lovers and haters.
I've also modelled my vocals on Matt's voice, so I've got the whole falsetto thing going on. My housemates love hearing me sing.
really?! you can?! gosh, i cant make my voice go that high, and i'm a GIRRRLLL! with a very VERY limited range in my voice. and yet i'm still my band's vocalist. hardeeharhar. how'd you make your voice like that anyway?

well you know what happens when you don't give things a chance: you miss out. and that's precisely what your friend is doing: missing out. it's not a big deal. don't lose sleep over it or anything. it's his loss, not yours. =)
from what i can see, your friend's world, as far as music is concerned, is made up of only two things: really loud music and the rest. and your friend, being the young, young person he is, can't help but fall into the trap so many just as painfully young people do, and term the rest as emo, probably--no--definitely without understanding the full extend of what that word means and what it represents. your friend, he still has a lot of growing up to do, and it's not up to you to force him to. he'll have to do it in his own time. til then, just rejoice that you have a broader view, and thus knowledge, on music and are closer to knowing what it's really about.
fridays, you say? heh heh, i was there a few months ago. don't really patronize it so much unless my friends have some sorta gathering. and i can't very well say "muse rox my sox" to every waitress that serves us. what if it's not you? imagine the looks i'll get from both the waitresses and my friends :$ but then if you make it known what a crazy musehead you are, then they'll probably come running to tell you to serve my table, heh heh.

Welcome to the club de7ilznite! But im Singaporean heh heh.
Wow this emo thing is such a big issue eh? Personally i think emo can't be defined. The truth is, i don't really know what emo is. All i can derive from it is its literal meaning, like what de7ilznite had posted.
Congratulations on your new job Debbie! I would love to get served by a Musette haha. When things get tough just think about your next paycheck. Anyway after 3 months of basic military school they'll post me to a unit, which might be a 9-5 thing or something bad just like this 3 months.

Selamat Hari Raya! Thanks guys! I'm still stuck here in Australia though, got my exams in 3 weeks. :( Will return home straight after though, I can't wait.
I'm not really into Dashboard, I'd say they are emo. ;)
Muse is different because Matt has this amazing ability to channel genuine raw emotion through his singing. Whether he's being angry or tender and romantic. He's able to express an entire spectrum of genuine emotions through his singing, it's amazing. And there's nothing wrong with that, music is all about conveying emotions and feelings anyway. The average emo band is rubbish at that, I am hardly stirred when I listen to their stuff.
Well Debbie, at first I had to really strain my voice whenever I sing in order to match Matt's range. I was terrible at first, had a horrible karaoke-type voice ;) but I worked on my range as well as breathing technique (I breathe like Matt too, like the verses on TIRO). All I need now is clear my throat before singing and perhaps have some water as well. I practice regularly when I'm driving (I deliver pizzas) and when I'm around the house (mostly when I think no-one's around) but all my housemates have heard me and told me they love listening to me. It's a great way to relieve stress too.
Matt's falsetto is AWESOME!! How can anyone not love it???!!
I basically sing along to all their songs all the time. I can do the "Oooh-woo-oo, yeah-yeah-yeah" part on TIRO pretty good. Best way to achieve the highest standard is to practice Microcuts though. ;) KoC is pretty tough too.
Hey Nutcracker! Nah, it's all good, neighbourino. :D

lol thats what nametags are for! haha i hope mine doesnt say "linette" like the one in the muscle museum video or i'd end up crying all night every night... hah. er. right. bad joke. anyway, yeah i think we get nametags. if we dont also, i think i'm the only chinse female waitress there.. so er, come! haha. but note that i might snap any minute because its really frustrating. :)

Matt's falsetto is AWESOME!! How can anyone not love it???!!
to be honest i didnt really like Matt's falsetto at first. that was one of the reasons why Origin was my least favourite album! but eventually his falsetto kinda grew on me... and now i WANT to sound like that! haha. but Absolution still remains on top of my 'favourite Muse album list' :)
and i really really like Dashboard! besides the fact that their vocalist, Chris is extremely good looking, their music sounds good too! but one thing i dont get is how come the band members dont get any attention what so ever? they're hardly in videos, nor in pictures! its like as if Chris IS Dashboard Confessional. pooh.
i love that dom wears a slipknot mask video! its Matt's squeeley laughter thats makes me ROFLMAO rather than Dom's immitation of slipknot. lol! if i do show that to my friend, he'd probably hate Muse even more.. either that or he's be really open minded about it and laugh about it. but i've got a feeling its the former rather than the latter.
hmm true wat vspirit said abt too little fans..come to JB lah...lol i love love love muse music muse muse! lol hehe

hello!! welcome muse_music! haha :D IF Muse does come to Malaysia and then to Singapore or vice versa, they'd probably drive past JB on the way! haha. and yeah 12 year olds can masuk concerts, if there's no age restriction and stuff la. i was 11 when i went to my first concert! :)

actually, like what de7ilznite said, you've hit the nail right on the head. Carrabba IS the only one in the band that matters. in fact, i think i've read somewhere which says that DC is more or less a solo effort but Carrabba wanted to play in a band as a band, and not as a solo artiste, so that's where the others come in. if it wasn't for that, they're little more than touring band members. sounds harsh i know, especially when i put it like that, but that is the impression i've been getting based on what i've seen and read of that band.

yeah you're not the only one getting that impression. i dont think its quite fair to the band members though.. even if they're okay with it or not. dont they want to be in videos or album covers?

well they have to get paid in some way, right? and i'm pretty sure they either get checks or the money wired directly into their accounts, should they not be able to find time to actually go to the bank to cash the checks. personally, i'd go with the second since it seems more feasible but for expression's sake, it's easier to say what a person did with his first paycheck rather than what he did with the his first, er, wire-trasferred pay. how strange is that, right? it's just one of those semi age-old expressions that shares the same context and is just more convenient so that when used, people still get what you're talking about.

i copied this from another thread..the Muse dream thread..its my dream dont worry lol
ok ok it was like this..i was at school we were celebrating sumthin..a special day of..er sumthin..and thr was a lotta crap at first and my friend and i played a song on the school's guitars and suddenly Muse were there! i dunno how they got there or i cant remember or sumthin..so anyways, after they played a few songs( i dont even noe what songs they played..i dont think i heard any songs) Chris came down from the stage and thr werent many ppl there and i pulled his arm to get a picture of us together..oh and he wasnt even Chris. i dunno who he was i think he looked like Mike Kennerty frm the All American Rejects but he had Dom's hair and he was very tall and jumpy lol. and then i went to look for Dom and before i could take his pic he started like crying and saying he missed his father..and i was heartbroken and i hugged him and stroked him and told him that we all loved him and you noe..oh gosh..really it was soo..like..sad and..if only you were there..so friggin..ugh..um..depressing..esp to see poor Dom like that...n then later i went to a room with my fren and both Matt and Dom were thr and looking very tired and i wanted to get inside but thr was sumthin pushing the door close so i pushed n pushed and said "Matthew, please" while crying lol..i was asking him for an autograph and eventually he let me in..and i THINK he signed my book and Dom..started crying again and Matt and i hugged him and we were like stroking him..and saying like dont cry..we love you..and then they had to go already and they went on a plane and i think i got a letter saying Muse was in Kedah or sumthin and i was asking them to come back to Johor..and before they took off im like oh gosh i forgot to take a picture of Matt! i was screaming wait!!! but the plane took off and i dunno what i did after that but i woke up with a smile:)
i think i should listen to more Muse before going to bed:happy:

one time i dreamt that i was in a car with matt and dom and one of my friends, and matt was driving ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD! and it was all.. nuts. i was like screaming "DRIVE ON THE LEFT DRIVE ON THE LEFT!!" and he just er, ignored me. and in the car, Dom and i had a little.. incident going on. i cant really remember much of that dream as it was dreamt like, a few months ago. but all i can remember is that after that, they drove me home so that i can get ready for their gigg!!! haha. then all my close friends came over and waited outside my house with Muse while i was getting ready. i introduced them to my parents and stuff... how odd. i cant remember whether i DID go to their gig or not... gosh it was so long ago!
and i had another dream too, but i forgot what happened. sorry.

never had dreams pertaining to these three. had one which had something to do with a burst pipe, paper clips and about six dozen rabbits, though.
so debbie, i take it you'll be heading south in January? after all, like you guys have been trying to pound into my head earlier, this might very well be the closest the band'll ever get to us. guess they really are taking the phrase "dropping by" to the extreme, huh? me, i'm kind of torn up on whether i should or not. the travelling bit seems too daunting and i'll have to go out of my way to take a couple of days leave from work. Leave, which precious few days I have been saving up to travel sometime next year...and again, the idea of travelling down south seem severely unappealing to me somehow, no offense to S'poreans, it's a lovely country but...argh...and not to mention I'd have to renew my passport...
...but the tickets don't seem too difficult to get if you have a credit card...gah...dammit...dammit...dammit...but then i'll have to renew my passport BEFORE I can reserve tickets, meaning sometime this week AND cough up RM350 as renewal fee on an extremely short notice, almost more than twice the ticket price itself, plus i'd have at least two days' worth of accomodation to worry about, and really that's too much trouble than it's worth already. maybe i should just let this one pass. heh.
...well i have til Friday to really decide. anyone of you already swayed? wonder how many people'll show up. don't think the turnout will be that bad, if you ask me. somehow, things have a way of working out when it comes to these three...

hmmm seems sistic has an authorized agent here...well i'll check it out on Friday and if they actually are selling tickets for this concert, I guess it wouldn't hurt to grab one and arrange for a day--er--night trip of sorts southwards...

oh, so i take it you didn't get the memo (http://board.muse.mu/showthread.php?t=37801)? ^_~
not 'touring' per se...you can't really call the shows international acts do in any single Asian country as that 'cept for Japan. Usually it's the continent as a collective that these guys tour in when it comes to regions like Asia--sans Japan, of course, but even they get only a couple of venues from international acts, a couple more at most, but still enough to garner the verb 'tour', I guess.
this is more like a taste, i suppose you can call it. a...preview? of something more, I hope.

omg lol i was just about to post here saying that i found it.
HOLY SHIT I AM FREAKING OUT. i actually feel like crying! i have no idea whether i should feel happy or sad because the chances of me going are... pretty darn low.
how much do you think the total costs of staying there and going for the gig and food and stuff is? cause if its a lot, i dont think i'll be spending this month's pay at all. :( and i wanna go shopping badly.

well i calculated. to date, the price of the ticket is set at SD85. Given the fact that the venue is a park and not a stadium or hall, I'd say it's a free-standing-first-come-frontest kinda concert, so all the ticks should be priced the same. but don't hold me on it.
i've calculated what my expense would come up to should i end up going. SD85 + 3% agent's fee will come up to just about RM194, after conversion, for the ticket. Taking the aeroline coach there will cost about RM80 one way. Since the earliest coach to leave the station will be 8:00a.m., I'm still pondering on whether I should just hang around somewhere (all nite internet cafe or whatever) or just find another mode of transport, which has earlier departure time, home (i.e. train). I really don't wanna have to put up for the night...I'm actually only going to depart from KL on the day itself, albeit early in the morning, to save myself time from having to wander the streets of s'pore and prolly being forced to put up somewhere. I'm taking extra SD100 (about RM235) for whatever else I might need to spend on. Food and whatnot...so adding all taht up (if I were to return by that same aeroline coach as well), it'd come up to about RM590, more or less. =)
all the above and more make up the reason as to why i was reluctant to go if it were s'pore in the first place but now that it's become a reality, i had to really ask myself if i can just let it pass...

omg. i dont have that kind of money. and IF (a really really big IF) i do go, i intend to stay there for one night! cause.. you know, we might be able to meet the band and stuff if we wait. i've heard many stories of that happening.. but i dont see that happening. in fact, i'm not that sure if i have anyone to go with. and if i had to choose to go alone or not go at all.. i'd choose the latter.
and you're right about one thing, i think its because of our sucky immigration whatnots that is the mian reason why Muse isnt coming here!

lol, actually i think it's too soon to say they're not gonna be coming here at all per se (wow talk about a role reversal, huh?). Singapore is on the way to OZ and NZ from where they're coming from so it's just as well that they cut their break a couple of days short to make a short stopover in Singapore. and since the country is more lax when it comes to concerts and they got swift (i would imagine) approval, well, why the hell not, right? This isn't the SEA tour, which I think is prolly still buried under huge amounts of red tape for certain countries (don't make me name names), and they'd prolly be playing Singapore again in a few short months, heck prolly sometime late Feb or March after their gig downunder.
well if you have someone who can put you up for the night there, you'd save lots. =) The cost I calculated for myself is probably almost the bare minimal as it is, unless of course, I don't spend all of the SD100 ^_~ but what with train fare and food...well, who knows, right? Worse comes to worse, I have my trusty credit card but I really REALLY do not want to have to resort to that...
like i said, the earliest aeroline bus doesn't leave singapore til 8a.m. the following day so it'd still be possible for ya should you take that route...

omg this is so weird! i'm discussing this topic with a friend of mine now online and i was thinking the exact same thing! cause i'm pretty sure that countries like Thailand or Indonesia would allow Muse to play a gig there.. so i was thinking that maybe that SEA tour is around May or June or so.
i was thinking that if they are gonna have a SEA tour, and they are gonna play in Malaysia.. i wont wanna spend so much cash on Singapore. but then again, what if they dont have a SEA tour in the future? then this opportunity would have been wasted and my chances of ever seeing them live will be NEVER. and i'd get really emo.
i have a friend who's aunt lives in Singapore.. in fact she's going over to Singapore next week for the holidays and i was thinking whether i could stay there, IF i can go next year.. and maybe she could get tickets for me from Singapore next week. lol. i have to discuss with her about that soon i suppose.

you can prolly get tickets from right here in m'sia, if my research doesn't fail me. i'm thinking of going up to the agent and ask on Friday.
and i was thinking along the same lines as you were, but like i said in that other thread, if they do come to Malaysia, at least I'll get to see their gig twice. not many people in asia (unless you're from Japan or perhaps even S'pore) can boast that, now, can they? ^_~

LOL good point, but i'm assuming that IF they do come next year, ticket prices are gonna be expensive.. like 300+ maybe? just like INXS. unless they play at a small venue like that er.. indoor equestajskfjsal park at Bukit Kiara. man i really dont know what to do :stunned: i'm damn scared or asking my parents.. they'd think i'm CRAZY for wanting to go to Singapore just to see the very object of my obsession. oh crap. *crosses fingers*

i'm 24...at this stage, the only thing i'd have to get my folks' approval for would be my choice in life partner. but it's not all free-sailing. you'll have your fair share of worry at this age. more, actually. but that's all in the big picture. this particular situation doesn't really count. xxD
i'd have to get my leave approval from my boss tho i don't really foresee any problem in that.
the real problem is just me, really. my heart says go but my feet say no. =( but hey if i check on fri and do end up able to get a ticket, then my feet will have no choice but to obey what my heart tells em. xxD so i'm not really thinking too much cos if i do, i know i'll hesitate. i'm just gonna go on fri and if they have it great if not then i'll be rm590 richer. xD

*smiles at muse_music's antics*
when i was 12, i was listening to whatever my family was listening to. my dad's oldies, my mom's chinese opera-ish oldies, richard clayderman (also courtesy of my dad), christmas carols (my fave) and grunge (courtesy of my sister). i remember she was listening to Rape Me day in and day out...didn't really get the appeal of Nirvana then. still don't really get it now but i listen to them sometimes, just because i can.
...i also remember really digging the MacGyver theme song o.O...i heard it again yesterday, on late night radio...brought back a wave of nostalgia like you wouldn't believe.
and i think you can go in, if you're supervised by an adult. not sure if he/she has to be a legal guardian or not, tho.

oo thx vspirit..if i wanna go, and i do wanna go im faced with a few problems
1. age limit(i dunno if my mum's gonna agree..its actually a coincidence..i asked her 2 days ago that if Muse came to S'pore specifically S'pore would she go with me and she said no but if it was TC5 or Rick springfield lol then she would go..
2. ITS EXPENSIVE!!! i guess ill use my 'duit raya' lol
3. ma, can go or not..
eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehhhhhhhhhhhh
seriously ah their coming..its like a dream..Muse actually coming here..well, Singapore at least.... :) :erm: :(

it could be a dream.. or a nightmare. it would be a dream if you went there, had the time of your life and even met the band. or a nightmare if you couldnt go, and everyone who went had the time of their life and met the band. lol. and hearing all the Singaporeans talk about it would KILL you!!
i asked my mum today whether i could go and she's like "aiya! people go to Singapore to shop! not to go to a concert!" and stuff like that.. it was a very short conversation as i had to get out of the car 2 seconds after that. so no luck with that yet.. but i'll still try asking her.
it would help a whole lot if the gig was on a weekend instead of a school day... damnit.

even if the concert's here in malaysia, you'd still need a legal guardian to go with you, i think, muse_music. unless of course, you don't look 12. and i don't think your parents will want to risk you going alone either...better start finding a much older cousin to hook muse to. you've got at least the next couple of months to do it. ^_~
and deb, ask your mom if you're there to shop would she let you go? if she says yes, then by asking what difference does it make if it's a concert, you'd still be heading down south anyway, and then feed her the to each his/her own line, and you've got her backed into a corner. however, if she says no, well then, it's rather moot but i still don't suggest you give up. persistance pays.

Oh that's called moshing a.k.a. body surfing. Not something I'd recommend for newbie concert-goers. Actually not something I'd recommend, period. You won't find any of that here in M'sia, I don't think. Not so sure about S'pore but I don't think they do too much of that over there either.
You'd do good to go early...as in several hours early to get yourself a decent spot to watch from, for park concerts at least. Bring a lot of water, too. A few bottles should suffice. And if you have one of those mini battery operated fans, then you'd do good to bring that, too (along with spare batts, of course). If not, just bring one of those manual ones that satay sellers use. I'm sure you know what mean. Towels would also be good to wipe sweat off with and you could bring some extra to sit on for the long wait. Sunnies and possibly a hat or a cap, too, should the day be a shunshiney happy one. And to help you get by the long hours, an ipod (or whatever other mp3 player you might own), a PSP, a gameboy advance or a nintendo ds (or all) will be useful. If you don't have any of those, then a book should do the job as well. Or you could talk to your mom.
You might also want to bring some snacks to get rid of those pesky hunger pangs.
And don't forget to bring a camera and a copy of their CD for, you know, the off-chance that they might hold an autographing session for the poor, deprived SEA fans. You never know. It's better to bring then to regret later, isn't it?

omg! vspirit you sound SOOOO prepared! you've been doing this a lot, haven't you? haha. the only stuff i normally bring to concerts are.. well, myself, a bag with my handphone and wallet.. and uhh... thats it. no fans, no water, no tissuepapers, nothing. not even a camera (which i regretted). but i regretted not bringing a water bottle cause i bought a bottle of water for like, 3 bucks at SP's concert. what a ripoff.
but if you have to bring all that.. means you have to bring a big bag in right? i thought they dont allow that? and wouldnt it be so troublesome if you wanna jump to the songs and stuff with a bag on your back? it would be flinging here and there and stuff.. lol.
and er.. i doubt my mum would let.. cause its a schoolday and all. but there's no harm in trying i guess! its just.. i have no idea how to bring up the subject :stunned: and i doubt she'd wanna go with me anyway cause she doesnt have a pasport.. and she doesnt really like travelling. she'd quite old-fashioned actually. typical housewife kinda mum :)
oh and uh, muse_music, i think we';re the only ones studying here.. and npoe i'm from KL, but my hometown is in Johor! haha. but i rarely go back there to visit my grandma though. :(

haha, you seem to attend a rock festival instead of a concert.hehe.coz i did it when i was in rock festivals we even had tents, but i mean in China.
here in singapore, you can chat with each other during the wait.and you'll find time passes really fast.sometimes they may do soundcheck when you're queuing.Good Charlotte did it anyways.

*lol* too true. that's basically what i had with me when i hit BDO '00. I'm under the impression that most concerts held in parks would require that as well xD especially if you're planning on queueing early. the ones in the stadium are another thing altogether. for that i'd just bring myself, my cell and my cash, not so different from deb. possibly a water bottle as well so i don't have to get ripped off, unlike deb (sorry deb!!! xDD).
and deb, when you said SP, my first instinct was to be very , very jealous of you, and if you've seen them in concert, that'd mean you must've been very, very, young, which doubled up my envy. then it occured to me that the SP you're talking about is probably different from the one i'm thinking of so...well, my envy deflated pretty quickly after that revelation, you might say. xxD

well, it all depends on how easily i can get em ticks but worse comes to worse, like i said, i suppose i can just buy them online, which sales start at approx 9a.m. tomorrow. But i'm not gonna say I'm absolutely going til i get em tickets in hand, if you get my drift.
EDIT: Oh and muse_music, looks like you're in luck. You're about six years over the age limit, tho I'm sure your mom'll still insist on accompanying you...which is a great thing in and on itself. Cos there's a high chance that she could be brainwa---uh, converted into liking the band after having seen them live.
EDIT2: and if i'm going...that'd mean the earliest i can start queueing up at the venue is...2p.m., since i'll probably only be leaving KL at 8a.m...guh...and not to mention i've gotta go grab lunch and stuff...T.T

hiya muse_music, welcome back. how'd i know? why, simple, i found out via the event details available on the sistic page (http://www.sistic.com.sg/cms/events/index.html?content=651#). =). hope you can make it there.
crazy_mary: you know, i really like your handle. there's just something awfully...quaint...about it.
i bought them via the ticketing agent at kl sentral. didn't bother to book via the intarweb cos of certain reasons. smooth transaction it was too. it was over all too soon. they had tickets for phantom of the opera available there too but it's all in singapore. damn, they really do get all the good stuff down south, don't they?
i'm gonna be going with another friend of mine who's not really a huge fan but is curious and tasteful enough to want to see the band live. he's the sort who likes to experience all sorts of new things, especially when they come with good publicity. and of course, you're welcome to come along, if you don't mind tagging along with perfect strangers, that is =)
EDIT: and uh, something you said earlier just occured to me. yeah blame it on my slow processing time, my brain's permanently stuck at 64MB ram...anyway, it's about the passport bit. i actually don't have mine ready cos it's just expired, haha. I figured I'd just get the tickets and worry about the details later. i'll prolly only get it renewed early Jan. i initially wanted to renew it sometime in april or may, in time for a trip to japan I've been planning to maybe take but thanks to this, I've gotta bring that particular plan of mine forward a bit. passport renewal...that's gonna cost me another RM300 in monetary casualty. Le sigh.

and you know what sucks? i might not have anyone to go with! and if that happens, i guess i wont be going then.. which is really extremely gay. i'm begging my friends to go with me now and they're all "see first la.. got school la.." and stuff like that. its so gay i tell you.

You know, I was actually all set on going alone. I didn't bother begging, cos the very act itself is disheartening to me, no matter their reply, and I really don't find the idea of other people disheartening me from something I truly desire very appealing, no matter how unintended it is. And no matter how good a friend they are, they're outsiders when it comes to certain desires of my heart. And in knowing that I still persist, then it serves me right to be disheartened, isn't it? So might as well not bother at all. Persuade? Hah, don't give me that bullshit. This might come off as harsh, but I seriously don't have time for it.
You see, some of my friends, they're into a different scene altogether so I guess I've got no business asking them in the first place but some of them, they actually do like what they hear but just couldn't be bothered enough to see for their own eyes and to that I say, "Hey, it's your loss. It's no skin off my nose."
This friend of mine, I only happened to ask in passing. I sent him a text msg the day I found out asking if he wanted to join and some relevant info a couple of days later when he asked. Then I left him alone for another couple of days til yesterday night before I set out to buy the tickets. I sent him a short text msg again asking for his final decision cos I needed to know whether to buy his ticket for him or not and he merely went, "Sure, why not. Let's go." The answer seemed rather nonchalant and flippant to me so I asked him again if he's sure cos RM194 is a little too pricey for an experimental experience (in his case), and not to mention the bus fare to and fro and some travelling expense we're gonna have to set aside for while we're in Singapore. In fact, to a third person watching, it might even seem more like I was trying to dissuade him last night but I really wanted him to be sure and didn't want him to blame me should he have second thoughts later (tho i wouldn't worry about him having regrets after seeing the show). He said something along the lines of, "Yes. I'm sure. No second thoughts. I'm in. I wanna go."
Can't say I'm not glad with his answer cos those hours of waiting won't be as easy to pass without company but if that's how it's going to be, I'm all prepared to face it. xD He's the only one I bothered to ask anyway cos knowing his character, it's really a 50/50 thing with him, which is a far better probabibility than some of the people I know who actually claim they've heard of MUSE and liked what they heard. And that's already a lot more than what my friend claims. He thinks they're talented and that's bout it. But he appreciates talent and for what it's worth, I rather think that's enough.
Then again, he always falls hook, line and sinker for most of the things I've introduced him to so far be it anime, manga or music. I guess he trusts my tastes. Heck, even my mom thinks they're talented from just listening to Space Dementia. She never really said anything about other bands I listen to before, other than to state that most of them are ear-splittingly loud and promptly wrote me off as a lost cause who'd probably lose my hearing by the time I turn 30...xxxD And then she turns around and, together with my dad, buys me an iPod for my birthday to which, of course, she constantly complains about my listening to it too loud. I don't think I'll ever get that woman...but that's what I love about her.
And...I digress. Sorry about that.
So hey, if you can't find anyone to go with, you can come with my friend and I. You too, Deb. That'd make four of us, the more the merrier. I'd have to meet you first, though, because I'm gonna need your share of the dosh beforehand to buy your bus ticket for you. ^_~
BTW, is your name really Mary and how old are you? Cos if you're a minor, and you're serious about going, chances are your folks are gonna want to meet us, or at least, me. And if that's what it takes for you to be able to go, I'll gladly go through their grilling xxD. Small price to pay for someone who wants to experience MUSE, to be able to experience MUSE, if you ask me. But then that's only possible if you live around the KL or Klang Valley area. Anyway, if you do, on both counts, just say the word. That goes the same for you too, Deb, and I'm very sure you, at least, are a minor. One thing tho, Deb, we're not planning on staying at a hotel or whatnot. You'll have time to wait around to try to catch a glimpse of them after the show, sure, since the bus we're intending to take only leaves at 8am earliest, but we're not planning on putting up anywhere for the night. We'd prolly just sit around whatever all nite cafe that's around the vicinity of where we'll board--HarbourFront, which, I might add, is only a mere six MRT stations away from the concert venue =).
EDIT: Oh and DEB, you can actually buy the ticket yourself right here in KL. Just go to Holiday Tours and Travel Sdn. Bhd. in the KL Sentral arrival hall. They're KL's only Sistic agent. I bought mine from there.

is it exactly the same price if i buy it from the Sistic agent here? or is it cheaper if i buy it from Singapore? and umm.. lol i wont mind going with you and your friend, really. its just.. i dunno a bit odd though. no offence or anything, its just.. i have this thing with strangers. i'm a bit (ok thats an understatement) hostile towards strangers.. or so i've been told. but then again, i wouldnt mind going with someone who knows and loves Muse as much as i do.. possibly even more. whereas my other friends arent that nuts over Muse like i am.
i'll think about it. ;)

It's the same price here as in Singapore. No difference at all.
And haha, aren't most of your closest friends strangers to begin with? But sure, whatever you feel comfortable with. To each his or her own, after all.

lol dont worry abt my transportation..the problem is, well ok like Deb said, and no offence, i am kinda hostile towards strangers, but i dont know why im actually kinda looking forward to going with you lol..i mean since you ARE a Muse fan..but i would like my mum to folo..coz if no one's gonna go with me and should anything happen or whatever..unless my brother can send me, which i highly doubt, but anyways, if my mum follows..i mean like for this kinda thing id rather go with a friend..not to say my mum's boring or whatever..but..it would be more fun with a friend i hope you understand..but ive already asked a friend and her parents wouldnt let her go....but i think itd be ok if my mum followed me...but im gonna have to make her sit under the hot sun or the rain or the shady tree:ohmy: :( no way..ARRRGGGHHHH:mad: :'(

if you have no one to go with at all, then i don't mind but well if your mom's gonna go with you, then there's no need for you to follow us, i don't think. ^_^ we can possibly meet up there but well trying to arrange so everyone can meet up might be a hassle, which, no offence, unless absolutely necessary, is something I'd rather avoid at all cost. it's easier to enjoy a show when you have less to worry about. i'm sure you already know that.
and a lot of you seem to be forgetting that i'm only offering because some of you /asked/. if you're hostile towards strangers, then you shouldn't have asked in the first place, should you? actually it's more concede than offer. another reason i conceded is so that you guys, some of whose attendance is dependant on whether you have company to go with or not, can actually hook up with us and make your attendance a possibility. so if you already have someone to go with, then it's not necessary to go together at all. i really don't want this to turn out to be a liability to my friend and i as well. this concert is hard to come by and we'd also like to enjoy it to the fullest, after all. so the less strings you've got attached, the better.
don't forget, we're all strangers here. you're as much a stranger to me as i am to you.
so might as well go our separate ways and if fate allows us, we'll meet up at the venue.
in fact, i think it'd be safer to just get your mom to go with you. ^_^
and if you feel MUSE is not worth the risk of going with a stranger, then, well nothing wrong with that. all the more power to you, in fact. not many will have that good a sense when it comes to their favorite band. me, i'd rather chance going alone, i spose. but that aside, if you can't go, or rather, choose not to, perhaps you'll get to see them when they come to malaysia.
btw if my mom chooses to come with, i'd choose to go with her in a hearbeat. unfortunately she won't enjoy herself much during the louder parts of the set and i'm already old enough to go on my own so i won't get to experience that. so if your mom is willing to endure that much in order to watch over you, i wouldn't complain. cos hey, at least she'd pay for everything for you. xxD

muse_music, if you took a look at this page (http://www.sistic.com.sg/cms/events/index.html?content=651#) which I've already given you the link to earlier, you'll see that it says the show starts at 8:00p.m.and lasts for approximately 2 hours so simple math tells me it should end around tennish, and i reckon maybe slightly sooner, encore and all. here's a word of advice for you to help prepare you for the long journey ahead of you called life: researching for yourself will get you further than asking here because then you'd have to wait for a reply and by then you'll prolly have new questions to which you prolly have to spend some more time waiting for replies to again...plus there's no guarantee that others'll reply cos they may not have the info for you and even if they do, you can't know for sure that it's accurate. so unless it's something you can't find via research, i suggest you'll do better looking at the relevant pages for most of your questions.
kurt_maisu: why don't you buy online? if you don't have a credit card, ask someone you know who does. i understand the mindset of there being no harm in asking but i don't reckon it'd get you far because finding a total stranger who'd be willing to fork out the cash beforehand for you, who are equally a stranger, would be like finding a needle in haystack. and i have to add, i'm not that needle.

hey vspirit, i think we should all meet (those who r going and thinking of going) perhaps at midvalley or KLCC.. i am still torn apart whether to go or not.. and no i'm not a minor.. i'm way older than u mate!! hehe and my name is not mary either, it's a pearl jam song that i love so much:) seriously i just gave up on going yesterday and went 2 pertama complex this afternoon and bought hullaballoo dvds.. geez.. big mistake coz watching it made me want to go to their concert even more:rolleyes: so.. what do y'all think should we meet and discuss?? :D
vspirit
02-12-2006, 11:50 AM
Well, if by meeting you mean on the day my friend and i are southbound, then KLCC and Mid Valley will be out of the question. You see, the bus we're intending to take leaves at 8am sharp from Corus Hotel (formerly knwon as Ming Court Hotel, opposite Menara Citibank in Jln Ampang) and my friend and I live really close to each other so it's no problem for him to come over in the morning and then head on over to the boarding venue together. Wouldn't make sense to make that detour and it's too early for the complexes to open anyway.
But if you mean meeting up beforehand to discuss plans and also to establish personal friendship so we won't be total strangers should we choose to travel together, then I'm game. =)
Soo you're older than I am, huh. Neat. I was beginning to feel like a lonely old folk in this thread. Good to know that I'm not alone. *chuckle*
What's stopping you from taking that step anyway? If you're older than I am, age shouldn't be an obstacle. And it's only for one day, two at the most so I don't reckon it'd get in the way of your commitments too much (tho if you have an important future appointment to keep on that day, well, that's that). If it's money...well, you've gotta decide for yourself whether MUSE is worth it or not. SImple as. I didn't even give myself time to think that much. And so far...I've no regrets yet. If they come to Malaysia, and I'm going again, then well, at least I can say I've been to their concert more than once. xD

that's exactly what i meant. so that we can at least get 2 know each other when we're travelling to that beauutiful  island of s'pore.. that is if i'm able 2 go.. or else we can be muse fans who know each other..
it's work.. since i'm starting a new job next year, i'm just not sure if i'm able to 'excuse' myself from work for 2 days.. been thinking of getting fake MCs but not sure where to get that. it's not about money.. i'm 28 so i'm like an auntie here.. :D

Dudes, I got the awesome news, the unbelievable truth, on the 27th nov, while i was in camp. I just couldn't believe my fuckin eyes when i saw the article in The Straits Times (Singapore) saying, "MUSE TO PLAY HERE'. I was fuckin screaming in my bunk. Tickets went on sale on Friday, 1st dec, and i still haven't bought my ticket yet. Why? I just booked out of camp!
I am going to make my way down to the nearest mall with a Sistic booth 3rd dec and get me a fuckin ticket to watch fuckin MUSE!!!!
As you can see, this is purely a selfish post. I'm just too overjoyed to not try and write this rubbish diary-like post. And it feels good to be out of camp again. Life has never felt so good before 27th nov.
I'm sincerely sorry to all you guys in Malaysia that has to make the extra effort to go to KL to get your tix, and then travel here to catch them. But seriously, it will be damn worth it. And maybe it's time you guys take a break from work and treat this as a holiday eh? I was prepared for Muse to be in Malaysia, but I'm so happy they're playing here. :D

nice...i see activity.
i'm meeting up with crazy_mary at subang parade next fri or sat evening. as for you, deb, well if you're absolutely sure you want to meet up with me, then i suppose i can make the trip to 1U...I go there quite often (I think it's about 3 times this week alone, the last time being only yesterday, in fact). just lemme know when. don't worry, i'm not a bad person or anything. i'm wary of strangers myself. the fact that you're 16 gives me less worry. but then you could be lying so, well, you understand the risk i'm taking as well. and the fact that i'm meeting crazy_mary on my home turf is another good thing for me. plus she's a lady. i might still bring a friend along with me when i meet her, tho, possibly the one i'm going with, just in case. and anyway, half the time my parents are trying to protect /me/ from them. even now when i'm 24. the only difference now is they only do it if they can help it, cause they recognize my adult status. they were rather reserved about my decision on going at first. they couldn't say no but they asked me a lot of questions about where i'll be staying, how i'll be going, how i'm planning to pass the time, etc, but the moment i told them a friend of mine has agreed to come with me, they became totally supportive and possibly even more excited about the whole thing than i am. parents will always be parents, i guess, and it's hard for kids to understand their worry when they're only, well, kids. you seem to be able to see from their POV, tho and to that, i say good for you. your parents are lucky to have a kid like you.
and heey nuts, was wondering when you're gonna show up and jump all over the place. you totally reacted the way i expected you to. lol. have you got them tickets yet? you mentioned you're getting them on the 3rd and it's the 3rd already... I got it about a half hour after they started selling 'em, thanks to my parents *chuckles* I could very well be the first one in M'sia to puchase ticks for that concert (since the place was empty of customers when I got there). My parents were more anxious over it than I was, getting me up early to leave, and threatening me by telling me that ticks will sell out if i don't get my ass out of the bed within the next 5 seconds...I think I was still groggy hen I went up to the guy cos when he asked for my ID and credit card, i just stood there staring dumbly at him for a full 5 seconds trying to process his words. and now, if my dad's not pestering me about renewing my passport (mom and him threatened if i wait til next month...which was what i initially WAS planning on doing, i run the risk of not being able to go at all), he's pestering me about once a day to start booking for bus tickets to which i have to tell him that i can't cos it's way too soon and bookings for that day aren't even /open/ yet...and he still does it anyway. what a difference a few years on your age makes.
well i can't say for sure but i don't think ticks will sell out that soon...the fact that they put up two stages of early bird prices as incentive says that the management doesn't really expect it to sell out as well. not as fast as you guys seem to be thinking it would anyway. but i guess i understand the anxiety when you aren't able to get ticks yet. try not to wait too long anyway. and sides, with the early bird deal, it's cheapest to get them ticks within these couple of weeks. you might wanna tell your parents that, deb.
and muse_music, the fact that you didn't bother to read that page properly indicates laziness, no other way about it  oh well, hope you end being able to go anyway. hope you all will.

What a dude. It's just a little funny seeing how you can get a discount for Hoobastank  if you keep the ticket stub for a Muse gig eh? I wonder how the Musers of the world would react to this...
Do you guys know what their recent gig setlist is? I'm thinking they'll probably be playing the same when they come here? I should think they're just warming up for BDO when they stop by here. I sure hope my local radio station has a competition to win backstage passes. My bro and me are already on high alert haha. I would feel so fuckin lucky if I could meet the dudes in person, man.

EDIT: are there other people waiting around, btw? is there a queue forming?
EDIT2: and i'm sure you'll find what you're looking for, bout the setlist i mean if you go to muselive. here's wishing you and your bro good luck in scoring backstage passes ^_^
Nah i was at home just now. Im back already with the TICKET!!
There was a queue but i doubt those "aunties" were buying Muse tickets, they seem to be redeeming free stuff as it's also a customer service counter. Anyway there is a local music forum www.soft.com.sg, i found out that there are quite a few muse fans who already bought tix.
Yeah i checked a gig for 29th nov in germany or something and the setlist included Hoodoo!!!
Has anyone heard the official Assassin extended version? I hate it when we have to download to buy it, cuz we asians can't, am i right?

oh...chaos a personal friend of yours?
and a m'sian flag, huh...heh.
and not too sure whether the setlist will be consistent with the ones they've been playing in Europe. i won't be averse to them playing some older stuff simply cos they've never played them in other parts of asia, in other words, here before.
not too sure bout the extended version, mate. i haven't bothered to search too deep into that yet. my guess is if you search hard enough, you'll prolly find it lurking somewhere online where you can d/l for free, albeit illegally. don't think the band'll mind too much cos after all, it /is/ "the managament's problem, not theirs."

i really think s'poreans are spoilt wif choices of good concerts. they're like japan where all great bands go to and think that oh they've covered touring Asia.. perhaps i should move to JB.. i love my country but wanna live cloze 2 s'pore for good entertainment purposes..:)
