is it just me, or is their latest single I Dont Love You really really nice? :D i like it! and the video isnt that bad either. you dont see Gerard Way's horrid face when he screams. and his hair is black again so he doesnt look that bad anymore :) and the couple in the vid is really sweet too... very "opposites attract". i like it. i like it a lot. heehee :happy:

lol really?? i thought it was er.. Queen of the Stone Age or something like that. i always get confused with these 2 bands cause their names are so long.i know i saw a vid from one of those bands, its something like burn the witch. :S do you know which band it was??

and yeah even if they're trying to be slow and emo and mellow like dashboard, i'm not complaining! :) i like dashboard confessional. not only is chris carrabba good, but he is very very hot too. :happy: mmm. and gerard way actually looks quite good looking with black hair! i dont like his little teeth though. haha.

lol i forgot you mentioned the "fuck you i wont do what you tell me!" part, i played that vid with quite a high volume and when that part got louder in the song i panicked and closed the whole window! ahhah. that song reminds me a bit of Limp Bizkit. must be because of the whole 'rebel' feel to it.

lol.. i'm afraid am not really an expert on rage. cant remember much since i was obsessed wif ém when i was in uni. was just being snobbish earlier tee hee hee. but did u get the two songs i mailed u? people of the sun and bulls on parade? i suggest u listen to ém using headphones. teh guitar and teh drums..fuyyooo.. ehehe.. u should check the band out. they're awesome.

yeah, zy.. he was made an honorary student or s'thing like that at harvard when the band made it big. i thot he dropped out when he was doing his PHD or s'thing. part of the reason i love the band is becoz of morello's impressive backround and zack's attitude towards the american govt. he's very political and vocal about it. they even played a gig naked once to protest against something.. i cant remember. if u think bono is political, rage is beyond him.. one thing i dont like about ém is that they were keen towards the communist ideas. ( well, correct me if i'm wrong ) both the beasties and rage r awesome in their fights against a lot of political issues. u guys just gotta check ém out.. seriously.

I did post a review by Sin Chew daily on the Muse KL gig some time back, and a friend has translated & summed it up for me:
It was given a thumbs-up. Generally commenting the amount of noise generated by 3 person and also the totally unexpected crowd. However, there was a mention about the lack of communicating with the crowd but crowd was awesome!

A friend of mine just told me Pearl Jam may be dropping by this region by year end.
Here's hoping for PJ & Beastie Boys to come here a reality!

Dear kids,
(those of you who have never listened to Time Highway Radio in its prime or have never watched The A-Team, or have never bought a cassette )

Let crazy_mary educate you on RATM, PJ, Beasties (do not get the worng idea, they are not a boy band - they are punk rap, err of if someone could give a better definition, pls do so)

I guess I can share some (of my limited ) knowledge on other Brit bands - except Muse of course, you lot know them much better than I do!

I'll start with Radiohead (summarized) :
1st album: Pablo Honey, 1993 - Yes, Creep is from this album. Apparently, the guitarist, Jonny Greenwood hated the song and tried to brutalize it with the distorted guitar sound that you hear just before Thom Yorke sings "But I'm a creep, I'm a weirdo"...

2nd : The Bends, 1994. Landmark album. Won critical acclaim. Melodic, at the same time broody. Highly recommended. Do also try to look for the video "Just" . Brilliant!

3rd : OK Computer, 1997. Progressive rock. Band starts to fuse electronic elements. Broody. Also won critical acclaim.

4th : Kid A, 2000. A departure from guitar sounds. Weird electronic beats. Turned off the traditional rock following. But this is true of the band who always re-invent themselves. Very hard to digest. Repeated listenings required. In fact, you might hate it the first time you hear it, or even hate it forever. Jonny stops playing guitar, starts playing the weird operator-like board-synthesizer?

5th: Amnesiac, 2001. A quick follow up to Kid A. Less electronic than Kid A. But still have the weird sounds, a little more piano. Easier to digest than Kid A.

6th : Hail to the Thief, 2003. The thief here is referred to George Bush, PUSA because he robbed Al Gore of the votes (Do read Michael Moore's Stupid White Men for a satirical view on this). A return to their rock roots. More guitar and organic sound.

Thom Yorke solo album, The Eraser, 2006. Electronic sounding. A lot of messages he's trying to convey - mostly on political goings-on. Also a bit hard to digest. Repeated listenings required.

I'd say, try The Bends first, then OK Computer. By then I think you'll love them already, and won't mind to decipher their electronic sounds.

the bends and ok computer still remain as my fav radiohead albums after so long.

and the video for Just is absobloominutely brilliant! tht was what got me hooked to radiohead in the first place!

im quite sure muse lovers will take to the bends easily..muse have been accused of copying radiohead before, mind you!

Paranoid is from OK Computer actually. One of my many fav albums of all time =) But there was also another great prog rock album released that year (1997) that has remained largely forgotten - Mansun's "Six" album. An epic album that made even OK Computer seem rather "normal", IMHO.

Sorry to sidetrack also. Betul ke Pearl Jam coming to town? Who's bringing 'em in? Tiger beer again issit? It would be massively awesome 2 see PJ live. The last time they were in South East Asia was in Singapore on Hari Raya day of 1995 - just a few days after R.E.M. performed at the same venue (Sg National Indoor Stadium if I;m not mistaken)

PJ is one of the bands who love the fans more than anything else. Heck, on their latest/current world tour, they play like an average of 30 songs per gig!! That's like easily way more than 2 hours of live music. The fact that they have such a large repertoire of songs helps a lot of course =)

Yeah, you can't really sing along to RATM. But the guitar riffs are ace man! Just like Muse's riffs =) Other bands with equally ace riffs would be Soundgarden & Pearl Jam. And if you're into older (I mean retro) music: Led Zeppelin & Black Sabbath. Or if you wanna try someting different, check out the kewl keyboard riffs from the likes of New Order & Depeche Mode.

There's a really beautiful song from OK Computer which I absolutely adore called No Surprises. You should check out that song as well. I also like Electioneering, which is LOUD yet melodic.

He indirectly introduced me to a few great bands like Feeder, Ash, Better Than Ezra and Dishwalla. He would ocassionally bring a few local rock artistes in to promote them too. I miss him :(

yes, that's true.. they tend to play more songs than in the setlist n jamming to prolong their songs in concerts. they're like the most honest band in the world. remember their fight against ticketmaster for over charging their fans in the US for the tix concerts? and i just can never forget a picture that i saw showing the band in a very devastated mood after the roskdille incident. like matt, ed doesnt interact much wif the crowd. it's all about the music wif ém..ahh..i'm rambling about ém. seriously, i'm trying to be hopeful here.. i noe the chances r really slim for ém to come here.. but the thot of it... gah.. pliss do come!

Better Than Ezra has quite a number of hits, but I guess they never really hit off here in Malaysia. When I stepped into the circuit, I could hear the engines revving up and the drivers changing gears and everything. As soon as I heard all that, my adrenalin started pumping in. (Yes I'm a geek). Honestly, I can sit there all day to listen to the sounds of an F1 car. (But eh, i would definitely give that up for another Muse concert!) My friend and I made a banner for Heikki Kovalen and Nico Rosberg. A welcome banner. But personally, I'm more of a Nick Heidfeld and Fisichella fan..

i was sitting rite in fornt of mclaren n ferrari garages as well!! woohh.. grandstand mall area is bloody brilliant! u can c all the pitt actions.. but its a shame the tix r sooooo expensive.

so fast r u.. i was thinking of uploading my pix, but too lazy to do it. yeah.. the barrier kinda annoyed me as well coz u cant actually see wat was happening (wat changes the pit crew made for the different runs). i felt the same way. when i was searching for parking space, i could hear the engine revs.. it made me so excited that i almost hit another car. i could sit there all day too. i only managed to go yesterday after work. lucky kimi was testing at the time and hamilton as well. massa was in his casual clothes.. and so was heidfeld walking down the pit lane.. i was hoping to see alonso to do his testing. ah.. so ur a fan of renault then? since u like both fisichella and heikki kovalainen. used to hate alonso wif passion last two season but now i support him coz he's in mclaren. that hamilton dude is damn fast as well, and kubica really made an impression last season.. really cant wait for the race weekend!!

Have been lurking for a while back, but finally decided to post after reading all the great stuff, you guys make for really interesting reading.;)

That and the fact that it's been a month and am still not over PMS. I now view life as split, pre and post-seeing-Muse live. Can't focus at work, can't stop talking about Muse, etc.

chaz really looked good in person i must say. it was havoc at tower records. couldnt believe people would pre-order the album like one month in advance just to get his autograph. hardcore LP fan tul diorang. but, he was soooo sweet. :happy: i had more fun at the BMW pitt lane park then at tower records since i couldnt get his sig coz i was broke and had no money to pre-order the album..

i went to the indonesia thread a number of times but didnt understand half of wat they were saying. there is difference not only in pronunciation.

Kesian... I know how you feel =) I'm still rather high from PMS. But went to Sepang for F1 over the weekend. F1 seems to have cured my PMS a bit. But I had to gatal cari pasal & listen 2 Sunburn today (coz I got sunburn at the track mah). Now dapat balik PMS, but not as strong as b4 :D

oh yeah, i was at sepang. it was amazingly hot there. last year it was a bit cloudy but this year.. damn hot. the race was quite dry eh? not a lot of action.. i had covered myself wif a generous amount of sunblock and suncreen on my face. so, not a lot of damage to my skin.;)

dont think it sucked tho, heard that it was not as enjoyable as muse. i read a review of kanye's concert on nst this morning. it was quite weird that the writer chose to compare it wif muse as they r both different. it seemed that those who went to west's gig were not really fans as they didnt noe most of the songs compared to those who went to muse's gig. it looks like we malaysian musers know how to rock compared to 'em.. :musesign: even tho kanye is more popular on the radio..

Yeah. I think it was more a case of bad marketing for Kanye. I'm sure he's a very good artiste and performer - but of course Muse is wayyy better lah, haha...

If I'm not mistaken, Kanye tix only went on sale barely 2-3 weeks before the actual gig (Muse tix went on sale at least 1.5 months b4 the gig). There were not as many promos for Kanye (that I saw) as for Muse. I saw ads for the Muse gig almost daily in the newspapers. And everytime I walk into FOS (which I do a lot, hehe), they would be playing ads for Muse on the monitors =)

I think the organizer thot that Kanye was very popular, in fact he IS more popular/has more fans than Muse in these parts, so they were maybe hoping that his name alone will sell the gig.

Hence, I'm not surprised that the turnout wasnt great. Maybe that's why Kanye was in shades throughout the gig, so that he can't see the poor turnout =) I agree with Shannaz that he may never come here again. I think the organizer (Pineaple or something like that, if I;m not mistaken) need to learn from the folks at Galaxie & Tiger who brought Muse in. They were much better organizers, IMHO. How else can you explain a band whose music rarely gets airplay like Muse (ok, maybe they overplayed Starlight to death) to sell-out their gig weeks in advance?

Then, we'll get more big acts coming our way. And Muse can come back, again & again. The future looks bright folks.

i'm interested in going for Good Charlotte, but i dont think they're selling any ticks, or are they? i dont see any ads with prices. i guess the only way to get them is to win them... and i'm not gonna bother because if its getting the same amount of hype as muse, its gonna be close to impossible to win it on Hitz.fm. :( is there any other way to get tickets?

IMHO, rock concerts are different than r n'b, pop, rap, or whatever the genres are.
the fans treat the concerts just like some cult ritual.
they MUST love rock music coz being in the rock concert really uncomfortable, and the fans pay more for festival ticket to feel the energy (i usually call it "the force"..hahahahah) than sitting in the tribune.
i mean...people with "common" sense would never pay more for festival ticket, it's not comfortable, it's hot, damp, and...jungle law rules! stronger men last till the end....:LOL:
so....what you expect from people who treat rock music like some cult ritual is one great wave of energy in concert hall...they sing, they scream, they shout, they forget the world like there's no tomorrow, whoa....

i think you must risk it once in your lifetime, you still young after all...so, maybe u could try next time :D
believe me...the first thirty minutes just like dehydrated in hell, but after you gain "the force" while singalong and that jumping stuff, you'll get extra power...
but...you must survive the "critical" thirty minutes, especially when you're in the front rows...it's brutal...sadistic...but it's awesome!!!

lol yeah i'm proud to say that i've survived Muse, Simple Plan and Linkin Park. though for Muse, i was right at the front at first, but the pushing got too massive for the first 3 songs KOC, Hysteria and SMBH, that my friends and i couldnt take it, we went towards the back where its more mellow.

and that is the thing i regret most of this concert. if only i could have nudged and pushed my way through to the barrier, i could have hung onto the barrier throughout the whole gig and just stare and drool and sing along with the band and everyone else. :(

if only Muse would come again. i sure as hell know what i should and should not do :p

perhaps Muse is actually way more popular than Kanye?? :D the thing wif being popular is that u can easily get to hear his songs on the radio so there's no need to buy his album. just switch on hitz and u'll hear his song at least once every 15 mins. but wif rock music here (honest rock music from bands like muse and rage, i mean..) as its difficult for 'em to get any airplay, the only way to hear their songs is to buy their albums. hence we noe all the words to all their songs unlike kanye's fans who only knew the lyrics to the hits.. guess that was why the atmosphere was not as electric as muse? or perhaps rock gig is wayyy wilder than hip hop ones? but beasties gigs are awesome.. and yeah, pineapple kinda sux in managing concerts. my hellish pineapple concert was incubus.. dunno la, ish.. it was so disorganised.

yeah that's right man..i really hope that someday the other band will take the message from MUSE that all malaysian people were too thirsty to get their live act concert here..most probably i really hope to see after MUSE will be Coldplay..such a good band with many hits songs..

i think all organiser in malaysia must know how to get the great band like MUSE instead searching for just popular singer with all those hits song in radio..for me, they can sell more tickets if they bring the groups beside one popular artist as Kanye West ( example )..they should know most people will interested to get through with the concert, i mean the live performance by their artist and not just influenced by their reputations at international stage..i might be wrong sometimes..hehe..just my 2 cents:D

lol my only muse moment was when the 3 of them came out onto stage before the pushing started. and i saw all 3 of them.. smiling at the crowd. i was so mesmerized. :happy: at that moment, i actually felt bliss.

I think Matt is also very much inspired by Francis Ford Coppola's films e.g. Space Dementia (from Dementia 13, 1969 ) or Apocalpyse Please (from Apocalypse Now, 1979).
I actually just finished watching the Godfather Trilogy (Coppola's most famous films) and so came up with this.

Secondly, I think Muse is becoming commercial in Malaysia, since format radio (esp Hitz) are playing Starlight to death - which is not a good thing (in my opinion). In a way, it did introduce Muse to uninitiated M'sians, but that's about it. Hitz is only going to play that song, the likes of KoC would certainly put off their majority listeners. It was a promo blitz more for the gig actually.

For me, I'd rather Muse maintain a niche base, rather than "sell out". But of course, they're already a household name in UK. Let them be unknown in the US, not because I have any ill feelings towards Muse, but because commerciality kills.

I also feel Format Radio kills. I'd rather listen to radio 4, where they play a myriad list of genres. Heck, I think me and my bro's record collection surpasses that of Hitz playlist. I'd rather Hitz not play Muse anymore, because they'll attract the "wrong" kind of audience, those who likes that particular song only, then totally ignore the rest of the band's material. Real music fans will dig up all the sources available, without relying on the radio.

Yes, I've read that some of u listen to Clash@Red fm Sundays 2-4pm. It's good! The 2 hosts are actually The Star's journalist, so they know their stuff. U cud also listen to Radio 4's AlterNation, Thurs, 10pm -1am. The DJ is knowledgeable too! And a she !

OK, thanks to those who enjoyed the Radiohead tutorial. I suppose I'll go with bands who influence Muse then. Hey, The Smiths are listed as one of them! I think I'll go with The Smiths next !

I love the Smiths ! ( I was exposed to The Smiths because Suede were influenced by them). So here goes (summarised) :

To tell you the truth, I don't have all their albums, just The Queen Is Dead and my bro's compilation album The World Won't Listen.

i must say.. my students first introduce me to the smiths.:D which is kinda nice. and There Is A Light That Never Goes Out u sent me is quite interesting lyrically.. kinda remind me of a poem by emily dickinson 'a certain slant of light' which deals wif similar ideas of death and light. but the difference is that the song has a kinda contentment feel to it, compared to dickinson's rather mellow tone.

i think japan's people really appreciate music very much.
if you're being observant, you'll realize there are so many bonus tracks for cd released in japan for any international artist..you name it.
sixpence none the richer once recorded "kiss me" in japanese version.
"fury" in absolution and "glorious" in SMBH are the bonus tracks exclusively for japan market (CMIIW).

maybe because in japan copyright infringement is really low, live concerts are always full of music lovers and not posers, their music organizers among the best in the world, the regulations is supportive, their concert venues maybe already using the most advanced tech available on this earth, hahahaha....the crowds' craziness is above normal for asia's standard, and japan's is well-known for their uncanny interest in western culture, so..i think it's normal for them to get multiple concerts in different places.
their people, their music industry and their infrastructures are well-organized and well-prepared.

last week i saw thursday nite live program also giving away all the free ticket to audience who can answer their simple question..they even gave Good Charlotte CD to people..i think it is nice to listen to other groups beside MUSE..at least until the next MUSE gig in Malaysia..don't know when but really hope this coming year..

aww chris can come along if he wants to. we could tour around the malaysian islands! like pangkor, redang, pinang (lol) and stuff!

What exactly did Molko say about Muse? Oh dear, I dread that this should come from him. I'm against the idea of bands slagging off other bands (unless they are really bad). I respect both bands. I feel whatever that Molko said, it was kinda "spur of the moment" - things that you say because you were emotional at that time, but didn't really mean it.

o please.. do send me the lyrics. i love analysing lyrics and texts esp if u haf the chance to relate 'em to the author's biography. it'll just change ur first impression of reading 'em. i dunno exactly wat molko said.. actually, i dunno wat's all the deal wif placedo dissing muse. just thot that u knew about it and mite wanna talk about it. but i think deb kinda explained it a bit. plus, its kinda normal for bands to talk about other bands.

yeah, we were actually tops until the last week or so..:eek: UK had less than 10 pages and US 6, which makes us tops.. but then they all started freaking out and send way lots of submissions, making us 3rd.. :mad:

sigh.. well, my submission is at the very last page.. wonders whether chris has reached there yet.. (maybe he never will) :(

But anyway, if it is true, it's his personal view, and I do not concur with his view. I still respect both bands anyway. The point is, don't let other people's judgement cloud your view, validate it yourself.

Oasis, oh well, even the 2 brothers slag each other off, haha! But you've got to admit, their first 2 albums were excellent!

and deb, i finally got wat u meant by the good charlotte's concert as a showcase. yeah.. it was more like a showcase rather than a concert but they played quite a number of songs. mostly their hits. i must say, we malaysians dont really give much love and support to our local bands. i was really annoyed by some of the crowd there who were booing estranged, one buck short ( which i think were awesome last night) and LO ( amazing, as usual..) on stage. seriously la.. i really dont think it's cool to slag off our own malaysian bands in front of international band like good charlotte. support your local rock scene people!!

wow really? i guess my friend was right when he said the crowd was like Simple Plan's. which sucks btw. when the malaysian opening act for SP was playing (shit i dont know why their name suddenly disappeared from my brain. i actually like that band! its the band that sang that Hollywood Holiday song), the crowd was boo-ing at them and chanting for Simple Plan!

i guess both Simple Plan and Good Charlotte attract the same kind of fans. the young rebelious kiddy ones.

number 4 is stereophonics.. muse turned down their offer to support stereophonics, so kelly jones (the lead) made a comment of how muse wanted big bucks although they're just a "third-rate radiohead"..

matt said that's not true.. it was a misunderstanding between agents.. then matt slags them for taking PRS money of their support band..

but now they're friends now

i recently remembered reading about stereophonics slagging muse on the board, so made a random search of "stereophonics" and "day at the races" and it matches.. the only other match is "day at the races" and "queen", but that's not a gig
