It's catchy, it's indeed so sweet, it's the old U2 I love, it's pure love (hippy!!!) it's just another live track that's making me long so much for the full new album!!!

Stecloud
14-05-2006, 01:22 AM
Yeah that's nice, it's not 'phwwwwwwooooooooaaaaaaaaar', like Knights is, but it's pleasant enough. I still don't like the title though...maybe I will once I can decipher the lyrics.

It sounds like the Killers! :stunned:
That threw me off a bit...

Hm. Good song, not as great as the other ones, though. But I wouldn't mind hearing it on the album. :D

get ready for this to me more poppy than bliss... the keyboards in the bridge sound like bliss.

so funny to see comparisons to the killers (dont get me wrong they are ok) but the killers are simply rehashing 80's stuff

It's cool. It's not as straight out awesome as KoC is, but still cool.

Something is niggling at me slightly though, it doesn't seem to lend itself to a great live song as much as it should, jitters from performing new songs maybe?

Well after listening Starlight live (again we need to listen to the real recording of the song to be sure about it) , it s obvious any of the new ones are sounding totally different from each other .

They didn t lie, the whole album is probably unique because any of the 11 songs is unique .

So i can t fuckin wait now for Take A Bow, Invincible and Assassin

Got me the same way as SBH. But more fun to sing harmony along to.

If this is a single, and if there is a video, I can just picture it being some chick in a sparkly shirt dancing around and shaking her hair back and forth, with little sparklies sparkling on a sparkly background.

It's just that sparkly.

I might be the first to post this.

Starlight is Burning Bandits after a large retooling. I cannot imagine them having two songs so similar on the same album. While I like what Starlight is now, I was really enjoying the direction that BB was going! Oh well bootlegs for posterity.

for future reference: I could be wrong!

Max Moon

For now it s my least fave "new one" out of the three i ve heard last night .

And of course far behind both Burning Bandits and Debase

It s a nice song and I think there s the need for at least one "mellow" song on the album to add variety so nothing wrong with that .

It s just this song is too "normal" when u re comparing it to SMBH and KOC .

Yeah too "normal" that it s main prob to me, I like Muse insanity :p

Mark a meh for me. I've never liked U2. I'd rather have some Britney/Prince and Telstar/Queen/Morricone.

It's not annoying though, just meh. Especially the Bliss-like backing track, they've done that too many times (Bliss, Shine, Stockholm, even KOC has a little of it...) hope it's better on the album.

This guy speaks the truth and I'll tell you why:

Watch the TV broadcast vid and before Sunburn, Matt played the EXACT same spacey intro he does before Pee Candle/Burning Bandits in the States.

Listen to any US bootleg and you'll see what I mean.

let's conspire the ignite
all the souls that were tired just to see the light

I'll never let you go

all the hopes and expectations

black holes and revelations

far away from the memories

I'll never let you go

I have to say all their songs have other great singer's influence in them. I like the song alright-- it's better than the other two but I don't find it very "Musey".

I hope the other songs bring better fortune to their album.

Wow, just going to back up what's already been said that this really sounds like U2 and The Smiths. More U2 though. Sounds alright to me I'm reserving my opinions until I hear the studio version.

Nope, I think the one with the cut in the front is the only one.

I think at one point in the song it says "this digestive feeling" or "this constipated feeling" .. It's in the 39 second mark.

Hmm.

Listened to it a few times now, and I'm not really getting into it all that much. In my opinion it's certainly by far the least inspired of the new tracks we've heard so far. The riff in the background when he sings 'hold me in your arms' sounds very reminiscent of Coldplay to me for some reason.

That said, I won't make up my mind on it until I buy the album. The 'our hopes and expectations' bits are good.

I think it sounds a bit like The Smiths in some way Yeah, I think so too, but I can't put my finger on why. Apart from the lyric, "People who care if I live or die". Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now.

At first it just sounds okay, but then it grows on you and becomes really lovely. So that's the second grower on the album. I wonder what the NME will think.

So yes, BB/PC has become Starlight I think

No, I refuse to believe it! BB/PC/TK was my favourite of the bootlegs, it was great just the way it was. I don't see how it could have become starlight though. I can't hear any similar lyrics, nor timing. There's no bridge just before the (supposedly now non-existent) solo.

:(

Ffs, what's wrong with me. This is like, S4a, pt.2 and I love S4a, why can't I bring myself to like this cheesy little song?!

I wasn't fussed with SBH cause I love dancing to it. I wasn't too fussed with KOC cause I figured, okay, here's one song off the album which I really hate (well, certain parts of it), nothing much wrong with that. By now I'm kinda worried. Well, not really worried. Indifferent, more like. Which is bad. :stunned:

But I can sorta empathise with people who just couldn't bring themselves to like SBH. Not the nooby idiots who claimed Muse had "sold out," but the ones that just didn't care for it.

Since a lot of folks who initially disliked SMBH liked SMBH live, I perdict a lot of folks that liked Starlight live will dislike the album version. The German reviewer suggested it was a-ha-like, rather than Strokes, Killers, or U2 so I expect it to be even more 80's-synth/MOR. That won't bother me, I remember Hunting High and Low and Scoundrel Days as very good albums (if you ignored a couple of the really poppy singles).

StarLight has nothing special for itself, it s sounding like a basic U2 song with mellowness for girls to rave about .

That Propermassive song owns this one, it's much funner, but I reserve judgement untill I hear the actual recordings for now.

Still likes it though.

I MEAN that this is the most generic of Muse's new stuff...which suggests that everyone is happy for them to keep churning out the same sh*t
I think KoC sounds more like a typical Muse song. Although none of the three are that far from being typical Muse.

Let's not get into what everyone thinks is rubbish, that's all subjective. I MEAN that this is the most generic of Muse's new stuff...which suggests that everyone is happy for them to keep churning out the same sh*t which is quite boring in my opinion because there's a danger of people saying [non Muse fans this is] "oh yawn we've heard this all before, is that all they can do?"].

But then there were the people who think SBH is generic, just not generic Muse. I like Starlight, and I don't care if it sounds like their other stuff, nor do I care if non-muse fans don't like it.

I do prefer it when bands move on, unlike Oasis who are stuck in the 1990's thats why their albums just get worse. And I liked the White Stripe's new album because it incorporated loads of new ideas. I think you need a balance, I think Starlight reassures me that they haven't lost their old abilities.

I very much agree. I adore Starlight.

Absolutely not .

I m a fan of SMBH and proud of it

And live it s killing StarLight without a doubt

Don't get me wrong. I like SMBH, it's a good song, it's a new ground for them. It's great SMBH made the first single, and I just looooove all the negative feedback it produces. It's a really good sign.

But at the end of the day, songs that involve feelings are the ones that "touch" me. And 'Starlight' is faaaaar far away from 'SMBH' in that sense. ^^

You probably wouldn't. But you know what this lot [Main Muse] get like whenever the music press say anything remotely negative about Muse...

Anyone who cares, i think the lyrics are:

Far away
This ship has taken me far away
Far away from the memories
Of the people who care if I live or die

Starlight
I will be chasing you starlight
Until the end of my life
I dont know if its worth it anymore

And hold me in your arms
I just wanted to hold you in my arms

Starlight
You electrify my life
Let's conspire to re-ignite
all the souls that were
dying just to feel alive

I'll never let you go
if you promise not to fade away
Never fade away

Our hopes and expectations
Black holes and revelations
Our hopes and expectations
Black holes and revelations

And hold me in your arms
I just wanted to hold you in my arms

Far away
This ship has taken me far away
Far away from the memories
Of the people who care if I live or die

I'll never let you go
if you promise not to fade away
Never fade away

Our hopes and expectations
Black holes and revelations
Our hopes and expectations
Black holes and revelations

And hold me in your arms
I just wanted to hold you in my arms

;) Thank u so much, this song is too pretty.....I love it...

Starshite isn't getting any better after two days. :indiff:

Nope, it's not. Still it's not annoying either, I can stand it. Still a meh.

I like the 80's sounding very beginning though. Before the singing starts. Kinda happy The Cure-ish.

These lyrics fit the S4A vid perfectly. Little Matty chasing starlight in a (space)ship that has taken him far away...... Black holes fit as well..

I think it's so funny how everyone loves the generic Muse song, yet hates the "different" stuff.

So far I've fully agreed with everything you said about the new album/songs.

Get your own opinion! ;)
