I heard Starlight on the Microcuts website.
I like it much more then Supermassive black hole....what a beautiful song:stunned:and what a beautiful songlyric. It`s got everything that a good song needs.Pitty...that they didn`t release Starlight as the first single.
Maybe it'll be the next one. Last time Syndrome was the internet dowload and time is running out was the big hit. Could be the same for this.

Stop implying things. I do want Muse to change, that's why I like the other two new songs. It's got nothing to do with the mood of the song, just with the facts that I think it's bland, boring and I hate U2. That's why I don't like it. I hate it when people get cocky and explain my actions by what I'm supposedly thinking. Especially when it's a matter of taste.

Now what I would reply to this, if I were honest and patient:

You took my original comment very personally, how can you say my implications are wrong? Do you speak for everyone on here?

Your first implications, concerning power chords, I few pages ago, were aimed very much at me. That was your original comment.
You shouldn't offend a bunch of people (in this case by putting words in their mouths) and be surprised when individuals respond. No, I don't speak for everyone on here, you know that. If you address a bunch of people, you'll get a bunch of reactions, this was mine.

I think the fact that THEY hate change [eg SBH] so much is making them think conservative means a completely different thing to what it actually does...

The power chord comment was yesterday if I remember rightly and was very much tongue in cheek.

Aye, lyrics have never been their strong point but I don't care because the music is usually good, they're not a lyric band like say, Pulp.
I still prefer how SBH sounds though. It's less "Muse by numbers" and more "we're having fun experimenting and it sounds fantastic".

Experimenting is the best thing a band can do when they have run out on their own formula. Make of that comment what you will, I can't decide if its a good or bad thing myself.
However Coldplay, Oasis and U2 have all suffered at the hands of not experimenting. Oasis more so, but still. u2 have just become more and more generic. "Vertigo" I mean what the hell?

They could get together. Pulse they'd be called. Jarvis could do some camp dancing and sing songs of northern deprivation and matt could do some wailing and flail at his guitar. It would suit Muse's (allegedly) new electronica bent

The best thing Oasis did recently was "The Importance of Being Idle" and even that sounded like a typical Oasis song! So yeah I agree, if a band doesn't try something new from tiem to time...they just get a bit old hat and nobody but the hardcore following gives a shit anymore.

I HAD TO SUFFER IT LIVE! Think how I feel! That was definitely the point in the middle of a set where you would rather be thinking about what you're going to wear the next day than listen to ten seconds more of that "boring new one" that bands have when they debut new material live. There's always one.

Hmm.
Having initially disliked Starlight quite a bit, I obtained the proper Radio 1 recording of it and put it on a CD with the whole Dundee set so I could listen to it while driving to Oxford today. Hearing it in good quality really helped - I heard plenty of things I hadn't recognised before.
It's still not exactly my favourite song, but I do quite like it now. The build to the end is very nice, and as mentioned the synth oscillating around in the back = :yesey:.
Right, off to the pub with me!
I like it - makes me imagine the state of mind someone would be in if they were going to die soon and had just come to terms with it... a very peaceful feeling, almost delirious in a way.

reminds me a bit of 12:51 by The Strokes just because of the catchy little tune that's kind of... "omfg"... happy-go-lucky?
it's fun, and pretty.... still kinda "meh"....I want to hear the actual produced version, though :-/ I mean, SmBH was so different from the produced version of it... who knows what starlight would be like. :stunned:

I'd assume (and it's a safe assumption) that this is one of the songs Matt was referring to when he said there was more "hope" on this album, as opposed to dispair a la most of Absolution.
I like it. I wouldn't call it upbeat or happy as some people have, but it's defiantly an uplifting song. But I'd also say to people who haven't made up their mind (and, to a point, those who have) that to judge it on the basis of one live performance, as opposed to hearing it within the confines and context of the album, would be be a tad on the naive side. So don't condemn it just yet...

U2-ish + Bliss.. right :stunned: .. I hate U2, love Bliss, my brother loves U2 and hates Bliss, so that ought to get interesting
as far as I've heard it so far (and I also have to say the quality of the version I have, isn't exactly the greatest I've heard ;) ), I do kinda like it, but I'm just gonna wait till I can hear the album version :) ..
*goes to try and get better versions*

TOTP 1.2: Oooh! Bass!
TOTP 1.1: It's very U2, this one.
Not just U2. Very U2.
Very U2 indeed.

The riffs a bit shit. But it might grow on me. Had the thing on repeat all last night though and it hasn't yet. The thing I don't get is how people find it so sweet when he is singing "our hopes and expectations, black holes and revelations" its nonsense I tell ye! (like most of Muse lyrics!) I do like the melody of the vocal line though, but I prefer KoC and SBH to this!

I think that Starlight could be the big-sounding, breezy song they've hinted at for some time (out U2-ing U2 quite effortlessly). I like it, but completely agree with you about it in relation to the other songs.

The live version does actually remind me of that bit in 'Last Christmas' by George Michael.

Aww I love it now, I don't think it out-U2s U2, it actually out-Coldplays Coldplay. ;)
But it's still Musey for all that, if it's not a single I'll eat my shoes.

I think luckily, i've not heard a lot of U2 so can't hear the influence at all. It's just Muse to me, haha.
