They are excellent live, Dave Gahan gives a great performance. The last couple of albums have not been that great in my opinion, but everyone should give Music For the Masses and Violator a listen.

Violator is my favorite album. I still have it on tape from the early 90's.
Halo is my favorite song of theirs.
I like Martin's voice more than Dave's. But Dave shakes his booty on stage.
Martin reminds me of an older version of Dom.

My depeche mode! Great to read it here :). Depeche mode are my little obsession since some years ago. I could talk hours & hours about this band. My room is full of their posters ;).
I saw them in 2001. Saw Gahan last year too. My favourite alb is Songs of faith and devotion. They have a great live and 100 brilliant songs at least :p. A great frontman with an amazing voice. Great lyrics, and a wonderful second voice. Great melodies, and best production. Maybe the most influential electronic band ever, and authors of the more acclaimed electronic alb: Violator. Not only an electronic band; always evolving. (too much? hehe; stop now).
>Songs everybody should know:
Just can't get enough -> poppy
Master & servant -> industrial masochism
A question of lust -> best ballad ever
A question of time -> techno (+,-)
Never let me down again -> amazing
Enjoy the silence -> the perfect song
I feel you -> rock!
If you like MUSE, you would like depeche for sure!

"Strangelove" (makes me laugh!)
"Never let me down again" (I love the situation)
"Enjoy the silence" (you know...)

Bah...And that debate came up with Ultra?? I wonder what is the sound in i feel you, or in the whole SOFAD!!. DM always has used guitars. In fact, in *my* board, we counted the songs Martin performed live with guitar, and the tour with more guitar was the World violation. Incredible, but true. In violator there was guitar, although sampled. SOFAD was rocky, much more than Ultra. In Ultra the guitars were deeply beautiful. I love the end of "the love thieves" (amazing!), "home" or "useless" cause of that guitar. The best music for me is when a techno (electronic) band makes rock music. And they do other parties; eg Placebo or the Cure related!!.
Lucky

Pssss... Don't think it's always good to know the bar staff. For instance, last Saturday night I ended up terribly drunk because they invited me to drink too much. In just one bar they invited me to 3 Jamesons, apart from the one I was having. I thought I was gonna grow roots there! (I don't know if this expression is right in English, sorry). And then I went to other 2 bars, and they invited me there as well. I don't know how much you're used to drinking, but for me that is a lot!
I don't get as much dm promo material as you because it's by drawing lots. You know, you get a ticket with a number and if you've got that number, the prize is yours! I'm not usually very lucky with those draws :( . But sometimes my dear friend gives me something, a single, or one of his compilations, blabla.
Oh, those Gahan posters will look good next to the vinyls you've got hanging on your walls :)

I'm starting to think that next year we'll have DM back with a new album and a new world tour. Can't wait :D. This time I hope to see them at least two times. And hope the album will be better than exciter (when that was released, spanish fans registered an url such that "www.excitercaca.com" ). Yesterday I listened to the Exciter singles and thought.. "I feel loved was great, Freelove was good, Dirt is cool... I won't listen to the entire album since I don't enjoy it anymore". Maybe with the years.... My problem is that I deeply dislike "When the body speaks", "Lovetheme" or "Goodnight lovers"; and in my opinion the production was a shame :o. An average album being a DM album.... The tour was great though :D

God, it's beauuuuutiful! I really like it. And I know you and me have spoken about this already, but I repeat, I think the production is just great. You should listen to it in my flat, with my wonderful sound equipment! :p :D .

I don't hate Exciter, but I think it is the worst DM album in 17 years; that's a lot :D. There are songs that I love; like the brilliant Sweetest condition, or the great and amazing I feel loved (it shocked me the first time I listened to on the radio). There are others that I really like: the beautiful Shine, the strong Dead of night, or the nice Breathe and I am you. I like Comatose too (reminds me to the Black Celebration era  ). Easy tiger is nice too. But I have some problems with Exciter:
I don't like the version of Dream On in the album. Or simply, I like the single version a lot more.
When the body speaks is a failed attempt to do a nice ballad. It's boring and doesn't hooks.
I think Lovetheme is a shit, and shouldn't be on Exciter.
Freelove is an incomplete song; the lyrics are good, the melody is good, but its slow going and the poor production left it as a failed one.
Goodnight lovers is... awful :o. The first 3 times you like it; but then the 4th time, and you are only bored by it :p.
The production is not only about the sound of the cd; Exciter is nice sounding in general (although you can listen to an annoying noise always behind  ). But there is no sensation of ambient or continuity in the songs. Only a few sound like homogenic ones; the others seem to remixes, not finished lp versions. Let's compare Exciter production with Ultra one; Exciter's is crappy (if we compare with Alan's job... Exciter's is awful :D).
Well, Exciter is a lost oportunity (poor if U compare with any DM record). Btw, the lyrics are bad, and Martin's voice is not as present as before.
And yeah, that "remix" of Easy Tiger is cool. I like the I feel loved extended mix :)

Uplifts what? :LOL:At least they didn't take the other option as name of the album: "Lover". Arggg, have you seen how many songs have the word love in their title??: lovetheme, freelove, i feel loved, goodnight lovers (4!! and 2 of them were singles!!). Martin had a bad year . Where is the sex, the religion or the drugs?? I miss that.
Nice wp ;)

Love them! Great on stage! Seen them 3 times! Last tour better than the previous one where Dave looked very tired.
Fond of "Never let me down again", "Stripped", "It doesn't matter two", "Waiting for the night", "One caress", "Sister of night"... Hope they will work together again!
Fave albums would have to be "Violator" & "Songs of faith".
True that Dom looks a bit like Martin, but he's better looking than young Martin! :D

It doesn't matter two!! woooaah, I love that song; and One caress!! uoooo :D. My fav is Never let me down again because of the live version, the split mix, the single mix... is perfect; the final hits me everytime; I love it :). I see you like the ballads a lot!!

Thanx for welcoming me Devotionalee! ;)
Yeah I like ballads a lot: I forgot to mention "Only when I lose myself" last time! ;)
But I also enjoy listening to "I feel loved", "Enjoy the silence" of course...
My best friend (who's a total DM addict) talked me into going to their show in 1998. I was a bit sorry and disappointed to see Dave so tired compared to what I had seen of him on the Songs of Faith & Devotion tour. :(
But then we went to both shows in 2001 (the ones on their DVD!) and I was very glad to see him in such good shape again! :D
"Never let me down" is definitely one of my favourites: every time I see it live with the crowd waving theirs arms, tears come up my eyes and I have the goose spots! Is my English terrible? I feel like I'm speaking it so badly...
Anyway... I'm glad to hear that they're going back to the studio soon! That means new album therefore new tour... Yay! :D

You saw them on devotional tour?? You are a lucky person. I'm not! That's probably the peak of DM.
Wooah! and Paris both nights!! Can we see you in dvd?? hehee. I saw them 4 days after that. Never let me down is always so shocking...
Not as bad english ;)

I didn't see them on their Devotional tour, I just watched it on TV! :p
I think it's their best tour ever! My best friend went to the Brussels gig of that tour and really became addicted after that! Also maybe because Alan smiled at her, so she says!... ;)
You can't see me on the DVD, but you can see my cousin and his girlfriend! I was too far on the first night and too high on the second one! Anyway it's for the best cause it would be so embarrassing !... ;)

You should go with your friend! If it's really their last tour, you might regret not going!
I'm from France, Lille to be more specific: it's located right in the northest part of France, so I'll probably go to Paris, and maybe Belgium and London if I have enough money... It gets really expensive when you have to pay for tickets, hotels, transports...

Umpf, I hate remixes... :indiffere Luckily enough the Devotional DVD is gonna be GREAT! :pI hate new remixes. But the old school DM mixes are greeeat. If you don't have any single, I recommend you this cd. Remixes like the Split one for NLMDA or Beatmasters' for Behind the wheel are shocking ;). Give a chance to them :). Btw, I have them all (from boxsets) except the ones in bonus cd: Linkin Park, Goldfrapp, Timo Maas,... let's see how it is.
And yes!! I'm waiting for Devotional like it was the last release. For me, it's the peak point of dm career; the greatest show in the history of music... waaaaaaa, can't wait :D :D

But MM is releasing a compilation... with a cover of Personal Jesus as first single . We'll have 2 covers on the radio at the same time :D

Count Me In. Depeche Mode are quality. I discovered them at the age of 10 which was 20 years ago. Violator remains my favourite album, hence the decision to have the violator rose tattoo on my arm. Muse have been the only other band to have a huge impact on my life and me and my mates who all liked Depeche now all love MUSE, and strangely think Dom is a young Martin. ;)

It's the cd that I play more often lately. Maybe because of the new cover of PJ and the remix of ETS. Or maybe because of Sweetest perfection & Halo. I don't know, but there it is :D

muse_amuse_me, i'm with you. Halo is embarrasing, and Are people people... WTF!?? (and it was in the japanese boxsets also!! shame).
But I think... well... I like Shinoda's Enjoy the silence :p. Nothing to do against the original, but nice. The end is good... maybe because of the video :). LP sucks
Ewan Pearson's is better though.
The ETS single has reached #7 in UK. Incredible. The original was #6.

Yeeah, knowing the original from DM, the new mixes are a bit... well, not as good; Enjoy the silence for me is the perfect song; it's hard to remix something like this.
About the freelove mix... I'm not the best to give my opinion; I don't like the original too much, so... the remix does not say anything to me.
About my favourites ont the 3cd album...
OLD:
Never Let Me Down Again - Split Mix -> the best thing ever. Remixed by themselves.
NEW:
maybe... Nothing - Headcleanr Rock Mix -> really catchy. Or Lie to me by LFO; great sound (incredible if you know that LFO = Mark Bell <- Exciter productor :p).
I'm buying it soon although I have got all the songs from the singles boxsets. Then I'll give my opinion about remixes from Violator and SOFAD (I don't know exactly what remixes are in this album :D ).
It's your time :P
