When a few days ago I changed my MSN name to "Much against everyone's advice" a lot of people talked to me all of a sudden saying things like "ooh you like Soulwax?" or "oh, I love that song" and so on so I thought it would be good to make a thread about them! So.. opinions? (Especially on their remixes and the 2 Many DJ's stuff!)

Man, i love them!! As my birthday celebration, we all went to Bugged Out on Saturday, because they were DJing. It was a brilliant night... but, alas, they didn't do any noticeably brilliant remixes or any album tracks. ...Not that we remember anyway. :o

I like soulwax better than the 2 many DJ stuff, though I think 2 many DJ's isn't bad either...(especially not live on a festival ^_^)

Soulwax are brilliant. Too Many DJs is one of my favourite singles ever, live they are absolutely brilliant performers, and they have a knack for genuinely pushing things forward whilst keeping a sense of humour shown very well on the 2 Many DJs stuff.

Think the albums could do with a bit of work, but overall Soulwax rool, maaan.

The new SOULWAX album, entitled ANY MINUTE NOW, will be released on August 16 2004! Some of the tracks on the album:

Any Minute Now
YYY/NNN
The Truth Is So Boring
Compute
E talking
Please Don’t Be Yourself

It's not sure if the track NY Excuse, which was leaked on the internet, is on the album too. A first single will hit the shop on July.

i haven't heard any of their stuff, and after reading a review of the new album on Q i was abit jointed when they gave it 1/5.

is it really that good, and have Q cocked up yet again?

i chanced at not seeing them at Reading, as i was watching at the main stage at the drivel that was Ash. why are Ash so rubbish and boring? i was standing by these Ash fanatics, and they were singing their little hearts out, i just felt like turning around and saying "come on, they aren't that good". they played the one song i was waiting for, last. burn baby burn.

anyway, soulwax, what songs should i get to start me off?

Any Minute Now is a great album... It's totally different but it still has a Soulwax label on it... the first single was NY Excuse, and to be honoust I didn't hear the Soulwax sound in it. the next single Any Minute Now can be heard on www.soulwax.com and www.pias.com/soulwax but I don't think it's representative for the whole album. So maybe you should just find a nice girl who will send you a couple of songs on msn... :)

To play the bonus track first play track 1, then hold down the rewind button. You should be able to rewind back to about -5:30 and listen to the bonus track.

No, there are no lyrics in the booklet.

And, when you put the cd into your computer (assuming it's a pc) hold down 'shift' and you should be able to avoid the Flash thing.

Hope this aids you in your enjoyment of the cd!!

SOULWAX at AB (Brussels, Belgium)

Main Hall, standing, Tickets 23.00 Euro
Monday, 22 Nov 2004, 20:00 , Organization AB & CCE

Het lange wachten voorbij! 'Any Minute Now' is op de wereld los gelaten. Hun vorige album 'Much Against Everyone's Advice' maakte veel los, maar hun mix-album 'As Heard On radio Soulwax part 2' onder het altergo 2 Many Dj's leverde hun worldwide fame op met 300.000 verkochte exemplaren.

Does anyone know if the soulwaz lineup has changed..or anything? It's just that inthis (http://www.nme.com/artists/photos/photo/11947.htm) photo, I didn't see the two people on the left play. They did have another guy with long-ish hair playing guitar though.
It may seem like a stupid question but I just wondered.

musewax
03-09-2004, 02:37 PM
yes the line-up has changed a bit.
Stephen (vocals) and David (guitars) and Stefaan (Bass) are the same as in Much Against Everyone's Advice, Steve is Soulwax' first drummer and he returned so he's the one behind the drums instead of Pete or Stephane Misseghers. (they change a lot!)
They have asked Dave (plays with Goose, another great Belgian band) to come and play the second guitare on live shows this summer. I don't know if he 's going to stay the whole tour.
There are rumours that Inge (keyboards on Much Against Everyone's Advice) is pregnant and that would be the reason why she left but there isn't any confirlation from the band.
the ones on the left are a former drummer and Inge.

greetings!

Q about MAEA, does the UK version only have 11 tracks?

i know the Belgian/Euro version has 14 tracks with the addition of 'My Cruel Joke', and the Australian and US versions have 13 tracks with MCJ left off.. but i had heard they left even more off the UK version 'The Salty knowledge of tears' and 'Flying without wings' which are good songs!

why so many versions?

and what's that rumour that soulwax are supporting muse on the 19th???

Jette
03-11-2004, 04:00 PM
maxeen? dont tell me you got that at the maroon5 gig? my friends was supposed to get me the maroon5 setlist when they played, but instead of the list they gave her the drumsticks (shes a drummer so she was actually pleased) and then she emailed the drummer of maxeen to ask him if it was his Stick or that of maroon5, and she told him it looked nice next to the drumstick of ima robot's drummer scott, and then he mailed her back to say that it wasnt his stick but that scott was actually a good friend of him. what a small world it is..

musefreak
03-11-2004, 04:18 PM
ah, god no! maroon5...

i got it at a maxeen club show earlier this year...

Jette

yay, the gig was great! after two songs they blew up a speaker and it couldnt be fixed :D so they went off untill it was fixed, about 10 minutes later. i got the setlist after the show, but then it seemed they did another encore, and i showed stephen the setlist so that he could see what song they were playing, and he gave me a thumbsup ^_^

yeah it was a good gig last night in Tilburg,, :)
Stephen was in a good mood that was cool, really liked E talking and that Slowburn cover.. the last song.
the performance was much better than at lowlands
I got a drumstick from one of the roadies
Must be very cool evening at Earls Court in December

I loved Sunday's gig at EC, made all that much better by the supporting acts. Really enjoyed Soulwax, in particular the last song that they played, which is also one of the songs used in the Radio One advert for new music. What on earth is it called, cos I bought the album (which is awesome!) and it's not on there.
You're help would really be appreciated.

soulwax Nite Versions @ I love techno ghent.:D :D

2 Many DJs, Soulwax Nite Versions, Tiga, Vitalic
Festivalterrein Werchter (30/06/06)
Weinig ultratoppop, genre Destiny’s Child of Dolly Parton.

Weird to think I have seen this band live. I know more of their stuff now and must say I really like them, don't know why they got such bad press reviews their music is much more worth a listen than most bands these days without a question

is that the royal festival hall - me too. they're doing nite versions at manchester warehouse - really wanna go - it's finding someone to go with - not like it's a normal gig night, the leteness is a problem.

they do both at the same time - i only saw them play for 20 min in liverpool recently and they blew my mind - you can't believe the sound ur hearing is being produced live. Then the bouncers decided to lay into the band, they left the stage and never came back on.

Feck I've got to see them again - i'm gonna buy the tix now! :D

Jon says: It's them playing their own nite versions + a bunch of remixes but live (as in actual instruments) and all mixed and mashed together like a dj set... It's mindblowingly awesome!

If you have the remix album, it's like the bonus cd

i think soulwax are playing and then 2 many dj's are playing directly after, would that make any difference?

basically the choice is chemical brothers or soulwax

Just means that 2manydjs probably won't play any of the soulwax remixes...

I've been to a radio soulwax thing, am going again and would go again over chemical brothers...

They're playing a Soulwax live set at Rockness this year. The way Rockness lists it, I'm led to believe it will be the band band stuff. They have their own Radio Soulwax arena at the festival and are doing a 2 Many DJs set there...

*edits* Aha, just been back on the Rockness forum, and it seems they're gonna do a bit of a half-and-half with some of the 'Most of the Remixes' stuff, and some of the earlier band stuff, plus apparently there are gonna be 'extra special surprises' involved, whatever that means.

Oh that sounds pretty cool - they did play a few older songs when I last saw them but they were very much remixed and integrated seamlessly with the rest of it.
Can't wait for the part of the weekend never dies tour

I just can't wait to see them in general. I'm gonna be dancing my ickle socks off for sure. I like the idea of the Radio Soulwax arena too. Every artist that plays it will be hand-picked by Soulwax and I think there will be colaberations and all sorts of things going on. Should be pretty fun.

Yeah that does look amazing - Rockness is the most tempting of all festivals this year... Shame it'd be so expensive to do :(

Aye... Even I'm gonna be making a coach trip of around 4 hours to get up there and it's likely gonna cost me another £40 on top of the ticket price. It is looking so good though. I keep squealing like a girl every time I look at the lineup. Found out today that David Guetta is getting an arena as well. He's calling it the 'Fuck Me, I'm Famous' arena. The name made me giggle stupidly for a few minutes.

Rockness highlights on Friday night, so I'm hoping some of the Soulwax set will be in there. It was a stunning set. Cos it was their own arena (Radio Soulwax Arena all day on the Saturday), they called the set 'Part of the Weekend Never Dies' and they did original rock versions of some Any Minute Now tracks, plus some Nite Versions, and some of Most of the Remixes... tracks too. It was SO good. I've never seen so much equiptment on one stage in my life, haha.
