View Full Version : Anime
Hello all. Seeing that animated thread with no anime, inspired me to make one. Noowww those interested in anime, what are your favourites/worst animes yadahydah?
Fav series is Tri-Gun. Its just awsome.
A list of my fav animes, series or film is:
Tri-gun
Cowboy Be Bop
Orphen
Akira
Vampire Hunter D
Ghost in the Shell
Full Metal Panic
But the best anime of all time... Samurai Pizza Cats!
mmm Trigun and cowboy bebop those are some of my favourites, and i love the music in them. Ohh and ghost in the shell such beautiful animation ahh and same with Akira. BUT i hate orphen its so streotypical i like the opening for it though, is cool.
I haven t seen Vampire Hunter D though or full metal panic, i am far to poor and lazy to rent things out from the video store.
okay okay heres some of mine I am sure i have missed out some
Rurouni Kenshin
FLCL
Flame of Recca
Cowboy Bebop
Trigun
wow this is my longest post. Ammazing
Full Metal Panic's not bad. It has some real good moments in it. But a lot of its just realy stupid and used for those overly horny japanese artists to draw pantie shots.

Samurai Pizza Cats...
Oooh yeah!
Who do you call when you want some pepperoni?
Samurai Pizza Cats...
Right on!
They're stepping out crime, and you know that ain't balony
There's Speedy Cerviche,
he's the leader of the bunch
[That's right!]
A heck of a fighter
makes a heck of a lunch.
And little Polly Esther
who's never afraid
That's me!
of going into battle
when the bad guys invade.
Here's Guido Anchovis
a wild romantic rover.
This cat gets down down
with a love hangover
Here come the Pizza Cats.
They're so bad.
They've got more fur than any turtle ever had!
They're stronger than old cheese...
[Stronger than old cheese.]
Stronger than dirt...
[Stronger than dirt.]
Step on their tails...
[Get off my tail!]
And you're gonna get hurt...
[Don't hurt me!]
Samurai Pizza Cats...
They're fighting crime
All over town!
Four... Three... Two... One...
The Pizza Cats are on the run!
The Big Cheese is the villain,
who's lower than low.
It's a rotten shame
he lives in Little Tokyo.
We've got a nasty Bad Bird
and some nasty Ninja Crowes.
As soon as someone finds the script
we might begin the show.
Sit back and rest your feet
and turn the sound up high.
And if you want the full effects
go eat a pizza pie!

Anyway, on the topic of anime, the only one listed that I really really like was Flame of Recca, but Trigun was still good.
I watched too many anime to name but ones that I think you guys would like are DNAngel, DNA^2, Tokyo Underground, Spiral, and Mantantei Loki Ragnarok. I used to borrow anime but now I d/l it (using that bittorrent program that I told ya to d/l, Noodles).

Every british kid knows the words to The Poddington Peas.
And Pug, thats not Full Metal Panic, I havent got a clue what it is. But Full metal Panic is like a Mech anime, probably designed for the mid teens.

That's a weird storyline. o_O My sister likes band-related manga/anime. Especially the shounen-ai type like Gravitation. Kaikan Phrase wasn't bad either.
Hehe kiddy anime...yeah Doraemon must've been widely translated. Because when I went back to Vietnam, little kids were watching it everywhere with voiceovers. I thought Popolocrois was interesting.
I'm kinda on again, off again with anime. When I'm not watching anime, I'm usually watching Japanese dramas or movies.
my favourite anime is cowboy bebop
perfect blue
blood the last vampire
jin- roh not so much of the stroy but the animation is
amazing. worth a watch.
ghost in shell

Well I think whats now regarded as Japanese style animation, was originally influenced by European stuff, notably French. Anime means animate in French. Anime is the cartoons. Manga is the drawings and comics. :)

*bumps another thread*
I've been binge-watching anime lately.
Managed to watch Trigun three times in the course of two month. :stunned: :$ Nyaa.
Awwwwh Totoro
Vampire Hunter D was very pretty and fun to watch cause every time anyone said "Layla" I jumped slightly. T'was also a littly silly.
Kenshin was also pretty, but a bit too Japanese (read: low-key and daft) at times.
Both GITS movies pwned. Some amazing scenes in the second one.
Bebop I've seen before, and it's still one of my all-time faves. The movie kinda sucked, though.
Probably gonna start NGE next week. About time, too.
Oh and I found a 'best animated movie' thread while searching for this one but didn't bump it cause it's stupid. I'd just like to say that the best animated movie of all times is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hedgehog_in_the_Fog.

Seen both. Hated Ninja Scroll the first time around cause of the sex scenes (I hate cartoon sex) and thought all the bloodshed looked silly. But it's grown on me after a couple of times.
D (Bloodlust) is prettyful. A bit too low-key and straightforward for my liking, though. I badly wanted D and Layla to get it on but all they could manage was "friendship." Meh. :indiff: Also, the hand tried to hard to be funny but just failed every time.

I'm trying to get round to watching FullMetal Alchemist, Bleach, Hellsing, Fate/Stay Night, basically stuff my brother has got.
All I seem to do these days is sit around waiting for anime to download.
I seems to be addicted to the CLAMP stuff too, like Tsubasa Chronicles, xxxHolics, Chobits. Sailor Moon, Fruits Basket, Cardcaptor Sakura - really girly stuff heh.
DeathNote seems to be proving pretty damn awesome at the moment though. Read the manga of that if you get the chance.

What is that anime?CCS is fantastic, I've not seen any other CLAMP anime, but I like all their manga I've read. There's quite a lot of crossover between their stuff though, which can get confusing/annoying.

Indeed. There seems to be so few anime series that are licenced in the UK and europe, I wouldn't get the chance to buy let alone watch most of the stuff I do if it wasn't for fansub groups. Ditto for manga.
And say someone does catch you for illegal downloading, it'll be cheaper to go out and buy what you can get in this country and claim its for backup rather than go through whatever lawsuit. Anything else when it comes to anime isn't illegal.

Oooh, Naruto! I got out of my anime obssessive phase a while a while ago, but I still watch it since Shipuuden finally came out  The fillers were unbelievable awful. It's so annoying when the anime catches up with the manga.
Rurouni Kenshin's probably my favourite anime :D My friend used to go on a lot about Bleach, so I might watch that at some point too.

Well, there are only a few anime that I really really love, the rest I either don't know or don't like.
1) Gravitation
2) Ouran High School Host Club
3)Howl's Moving Castle
Favourite manga:
-God Child
-Ouran High School Host Club
-Gravitation
-Angel Sanctuary
Gravitation is basically an obsession of mine, together with, in a tiny bit less obsessive way, Ouran.
*goes and watch Ouran*
ahhh anime
I don't know much about it, but when I was younger I watched:
Ghost In The Shell
Ghost In The Shell : Stand Alone Complex (saw almost every episode)
Ghost In The Shell 2
Blood: The Last Vampire
Akira
Jin-Roh
I probably missed a lot of the classics tho
I wanna see Spirited Away
oh and has anyone seen Steamboy (Suchîmubôi)? It's by the maker of Akira, so I guess it will be great!

I've seen the anime for Gravitation and read about half of the manga... totally random but really good. The manga's pretty different from the anime though - it took me a while to get used to the different artwork :p

That film is awesome  But it's better to watch the Japanese sub than the American dub because the dub is... painful. Altough I suppose they make it easier to understand the plot.

I'm fairly new to Anime, I don't watch it as much as it may seem. I'm a real slacker, even for that sort of thing. I know I should watch a certain anime but I don't. :p
However, I am into The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, which is great fun. I've only started watching Code Geass- first episode was pretty damn cool.
I've watched all of a more obscure animé called 2x2=Shinobuden, which is totally absurd. I reccomend you try it out, it just might appeal to your nature.
I'm more into Manga than Animé. I have all of Death Note, and am collecting Negima! and Chobits. My friend lends me Bleach as he reads it, and I lend him manga too. :)
(Oh yeah, and I've watched all of Lucky Star. It is very strangely amusing. There's the lead character in my sig)

Plus this Chibicon that is being held in my town this weekend... I went down yesterday and all I saw were people dressed as characters from Kingdom Hearts so I went up to the guy at the desk who looked bored as fuck and didn't do a very good job of selling the event.. he mentioned stalls and such or something and a cosplay competition (I'm stood there in jeans and hoodie). So I asked if they do day tickets and he just shrugs and goes "Weekend, but s'only £10" Well to me that's a lot of money to waste if I don't know what I'm getting myself into. If I knew about it in advance then I probably would have gone. To find out on the day was a bit of a surprise. So yeah my friends went to one this year so next year I'll go next year, maybe cosplay and all

I think the trailer will decide if its going to be any good, for example the hollywood Dragonball trailer doesn't feel like the original anime thus it looks like there going to mess it up however it still could be a good film.

One of my friends started sending episodes of that a few years back.. it was a bit fucked to say the least! Keep meaning to go back and do a mass download fest but my net connection is sooooo slow ;__;
The Evangelion live action film has been in the work for years, and i mean YEARS!
WETA (responsible for Lord of the Rings) were supposed to be doing the effects, but i have no idea what happened to it..
If any of that talk about Cowboy Bebop live action is true I will kill some x__x tis ma FAVE ANIME!!
Anyway ^__^ I'm not a massive watcher of anime - would be a lot more if I had a better internet connection and could 'aquire' more, then I'd get back into it.. but my list of faves are;
Cowboy Bebop (<3)
Evangelion (head fuck)
Gravitation
Fruits Basket
Card Captor Sakura (yeah i know, but I LOVE CLAMP!)
Chobits
Hellsing
Death Note (<3 the live action..)
Escaflowne

Been watching alot of anime since January and I have really enjoyed most of them but some really stand out for me:
BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad: Its a Slice Of Life/Music anime where a 14 year old kid gets into rock music and becomes an amazing guitarist, its relates to alot of British and american bands like Freddie Mercury (Queen) and Kurt Cobain (Nirvana) but they have made some changes to band names, one of them was Radiohead which are renamed in the anime as Rodiohead or Radioheat.
Clannad and Clannad After Story: A Romance/Drama, simply its an school life and life after school animes, this has quite alot of shocking moments and a great story, the character development in Clannad is quite fantastic also you truly care for most of them .
Currently watching Naruto just because of the big following it has and to be honest its not bad at all, fillers are a pain in the ass though :indiff:

Finished the first series of K-On! It's a nice animé, kinda girly sometimes but makes up for it with relatable guitar speak, slice-of-life sketches and some laugh-out-loud moments. It's got some emotional moments too. The characters are very endearing. In general it's just great fun to watch and I'm looking forward to the next series (which it will doubtless have because it's become one of the fastest selling animé in Japan...).

K-ON! to me has good humor and it always looks fantastic however I currently hate it for its music, some people love it but I can't stand it, for example the new opening for the 2nd part of the second season seems to not give a crap about making a decent tune, its just a mess.
I think if there was another K-ON! season (which I kinda think there shouldn't be), at least split the characters up at college and find new genres of music, i'm sure there is more things to sing about than tea and sweets /pointlessrant

I love it cause of the humor too and the silly story following it. My favorite character is Mio cause she plays bass. I liked the 1st song in the 1st season, the ending was pretty good imo....for the 1st season but yeah in the 2nd season it was a mess...just...even for J-pop standards it was too messy!
i doubt there'll be a third season, they're about to graduate and the series is similar to Azumanga as it's on the genre of slice of life.

Personally I like the music in K-On! well enough. Not as good as character songs from the likes of Haruhi Suzumiya, but pretty good. Ah, I just read up- get on it, Haruhi's great, favourite animé so far. Great blend of humour, messing about and plot awesomeness. Just watch out for that second series. Eeesh.

It is sorta annoying I have to admit that they're not actually playing anything. Good fun though.
Dunno about the Claymore manga but the animé is just so brilliant. Action-packed, dark, serious, good characters, and I really love the setting. Good voice work as well- found out that Clare is voiced by the same seiyuu as Tomoyo from Clannad. The characters are well distinguished so I don't hear Tomoyo from Clare.
Speaking of Clannad, did you get much play out of it? I was thoroughly obsessed for a while and still flick through it occasionally; recently got hold of the higher resolution version with after-story (which I of course have not yet unlocked). Got a favourite storyline? Mine's probably Kotomi's. Fuuko's and Tomoyo's were great too. Still a few of the smaller ones to unlock, can't find that girl with the brown hair at all. :stunned:

According to my sources in the UK we have just had that licensed for a DVD release for Christmas, will be checking that out again.
As for recent favourites High School of the Dead is pretty good zombie anime, full of fan-service but if you not bothered then its easily recommended, homage to a few zombie flicks like Shawn of the Dead and the Resident Evil games.
I moaned last time that K-ON! was turning me off but episode 20 surely showed me that I was being silly, a fantastic performance with the girls giving there all and Yui really getting into it and a really sad moment after it, it really did a 180 on what I though of it, I think episode 22 is the final episode so hopefully it will end with a bang.
Lastly I really recommend Giant Killing for football and shounen fans, there are a mixture of non-Japanese characters that serve as good comic reilef and the football matches are thrilling.
As for reviews i'm currently doing some Desert Punk and Naruto Shippuden releases.

Is durarara really that awesome? friends so far say it's the greatest thing since code geass.

It sure is. CV list is fantastic for this anime. I'm reading the original novel at the moment. Love it.Actually better than the anime.
Izaya is just an asshole but I love him.Damn Kamiya san is his voice actor.
Mikado feels kinda darker in his heart and with what he tries to do in the newest episodes in novel, maybe he IS just nice on the surface.
Masaomi...lovely kid, been tricked by Izaya before and have grown matured ever since, is trying to save Mikado from following his old experience at the moment. The anime hasn't gone that far, I'm talking about the novel:p
Other character are all fab(of course includ. the very main character Celty Sturluson, the Irish headless Godess in charge of notifying people the coming death...)

oh and I'm watching さよなら絶望先生 - HILARIOUS.It's now on its 3rd season. The frequent quote from this Mr.糸色望 (whose name looks just like絶望, meaning "desperation" ): It was so blooody desperate! I'm desperated with this whole world!”, or “How will it be if I die!". He always commit suicide, never succeed and actually scared of death.
In tv anime, Kamiya Hiroshi is the main voice. He's also the voice behind Tieria Erde in "Mobilesuit Gundam00"(《机动戦士ガンダム 00》)and 市ノ宫行 in "Under The Bridge"(《荒川アンダー ザ ブリッジ》)
btw I've followed 荒川 a long time ago when it was aired and now the first season's finished. Brilliant anime, fav CVs again and the story is ridiculously funny.:D

Hetalia has a film or did you mean another anime?
I was talking about the Hetalia TV series, Season 1 comes out 13th December 2010 and
Season 2 on 7th February 2011.
Bakuman and Iron Man were on my "Fall 2010 watch list", I think i'll check out this also.
They have a film version now, just out in summer, I got your point about TV series on DVD release:)
Bakuman +1

I've seen preview in Taipei, never really watch the whole film though. Yea pretty amazing given that they only made 5 mins of an episode and now they're making a film. Awesome.
Arikawa Under the Bridge is brilliant. I prefer that ED music tho;)

@Lee I'm up to first meeting Nagisa's parents, i'm making slow progress, :(
K-On! Episode 20 was fantastic. Great to see an episode almost entirely dedicated to a performance, and the emotional bit at the end was lovely. It's always been inconsistent, but I've fallen in love with K-On! anyway.
Hmm hmm, I see. Don't worry, I failed about a million times because I wanted to do certain storylines before Nagisa's, and I couldn't bloody work out how to get to them.

Yeah, i'm going to catch up with episode 21 to 23, all I can say is that its been a great series but to me it doesn't beat BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad, surely though this is the end of K-On! however I would at least want the band to perform at that rock festival in a future short OVA (or even at the last episode). Will you miss it?

A company known as ADV who licensed various anime titles in the UK have shut down quite a while ago, Chrono Crusade was one of those titles and i'm trying to find a cheap copy boxset rather then buy the single volumes. Maybe when I go to the London Expo I will find it.

Yeah, I will. We can't be sure that it's over, of course, especially after it sold so insanely well, and they don't really need more manga to base it off since it was just a four-panel. For as long as it's gone though, I will miss it dearly, those girls are a part of me now. :supersad:
@Wind Sorcerer I have HEARD of it. Does it have a nun character? Could be madly wrong there.

I like Naruto (Japanese voices, please!). Anyone else?
Death Note, too (esp. the manga). A North American remake of the movies might come out next year, by the way...

I haven't seen that yet, but my anime list is way too big at the moment. It is coming out on DVD over here so it might give me a chance to watch it (or even review it!)

I'm up-to-date with the Naruto manga and i've been reviewing the anime Shippuden series up to episode 26. I do prefer the Japanese voices in the first series but the English voices in Shippuden are much better imo.
As for Death Note the anime series was alright, didn't love it like alot of people do. As for the American remake, it does sound quite interesting.
Massive One Piece fan. Made a thread. It's dead. Go figure
Watched Claymore too but was disappointed it didn't match the manga. As for Bleach/Naruto I didn't have the heart to catch up on them. Tempted by Death Note though.

Just starting FMA: Brotherhood. I have a long way to go to catch up, I have only watched the first 6 episodes. My pal just got the 23rd book of the manga or something, and apparently there is some Mustang vs Envy action. Jizz, pants.

Episode 26 of K-On! (that's right, it's still not over) is one of the most fan-service (in the not-nudity sense) filled episodes of any animé I've seen. :stunned:

My thoughts on the K-ON!! movie announcement:
1. K-ON!! is very popular near the end of series
2. Corporation sees this
3. Movie is announced
4. ??????
5. PROFIT!!!
Seriously though, how the hell are they going to fill a K-ON!! episode into 1-2 hours.
I think my friend had the best idea of having a Battle Of The Bands kind of thing, that would be interesting to me.
New anime season has started, Bakuman and Ore no Imouto are my favourites at the moment.

It is clearly a corporate ploy. I don't really care though, it's a very casual series so I don't have to worry about plot that much. I would, however, like a good premise like the one you mentioned. :)

Such a good show to homage some of the great old American cartoons of the past, it also reminds me of something I would watch on Adult Swim. Its a unique take by an anime studio.
Arakawa Under The Bridge 2 never ceases to amaze me and make me laugh so much, Giant Nino on a horse that fires Lazer Beams throughout a flaming city, Win.

BLEACH FTW!
the manga or the anime? IMO for anime there's too much non-original stuff which I think it's a bit overwhelmed.Loves manga, but seriously cannot see how things will go after last week's post. And now Mr.Kubo has gone to rest for two weeks or something. Still, can't wait to see new episode of Bleach next week.
Reborn (anime) has finished a season,I don't even have time to catch up with it!
YES Bakuman!!! Manga and life, etc. Loved it on Jump magazine. And 荒川アンダーザブリッジ 2 has been on air for three weeks, exciting and still loads of fun. It's a subsitute for Gintama to me.
Currently watching 咎狗の血(anime) as well. You might not be comfortable with this type, it's originally a BL game. Again, seiyu are fab.
TV Sengoku Basara 2 finished about two weeks ago. In last episode THEY ANNOUNCED MOVIE VERSION FOR NEXT YEAR OOOOMMMG\m/ Please original soundtrack composer please! Let's MOE!!
For you who are interested, Sengoku Basara is a CAPCOM game and made anime a year ago. There're also loads of drama CD and radio tracks about it. For non-Japanese you may refer to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sengoku_Basara_%28anime%29
"Basara" basically means magnificence made by loads of heros, they got all these legendary heros from all parts of Japan in Sengoku era and made drama about it. :) The game I've played already, the effects looked amazing.

Agreed with previous statement, I find Bleach wayyyyyyy toooooooo overwhelmed with fillers that is hard to follow the intended plot.

So this weekend I saw Akira (which I had never seen before, I must admit) and also Summer Wars (a UK premiere, I believe) and The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya (a European premiere according to the organiser).
They were all really good. Especially Haruhi.

Has anyone watched The Big O? I finished the boxset recently and I have no idea why I haven't watched it till now, influences from the animated Batman series to various spy films like James Bond, the OP is familiar also:

I will need to try and get the final 13 episodes, tis awesome.
Arakawa S2 and Soremachi are still going strong as my favourites, although P+S is becoming alot better as episodes go by.
I'm also currently trying to get through the Haruhi novels, The Boredom Of Haruhi Suzumiya and The Disapperance of Haruhi Suzumiya. There a great read.
Lastly i went to the London Expo last month, had a fun time!
