i love their music, too...but i have to admit, that their live show is not as good as their albums...they surely rock, but there is no difference between 2 shows.
and their sound is (somehow) not too good, i think.

what's your opinion about their shows ?

like the deftones very much indeed ! their music is unique, compared to other nu-metal stylee bands out there (sorry, am not trying to label!!). i like adrenaline or around the fur ... i haven't decently got into their new one or white pony.....

What he said :D

Deftones are my favourite band along with muse. Infact I find my mind in conflict as to who is better. I only recently decided Matt was superior to Chino Moreno.

Gotta love Change (in the House of Flies).
that song really gets under the skin! Chino is a very passionate singer, that song is a great example of that.
i have a fab vid of them performing that one live.

they have been my favorite band since i was like 13, and i'm almost 18 now.

i've seen em twice, in 2001 and last november. both shows were good, chino was right on. although i've heard several recordings where chino has not been able to sing so clearly, both times i saw them was perfection.

from what i know, i don't think white pony was in dropped-C tuning actually.

the thing that discouraged me was that stef used a 7-string on the newest album

i know that adrenaline used standard tuning and stef tuned down half a step for around the fur and another half for white pony.

so around the fur would've been in E sharp and white pony in D. if i know my music right. and it's possible that i don't.

yeah it's weird as hell, it's supposed to be like the future. everyone has to wear gas masks because the air quality is so poor. and that old guy is trying to escape from it all and they just end up beating him or whatever. weird shit.

anyway, they've got someone besides terry date producing the new album. bob ezrin. he's done stuff with pink floyd, this should be interesting. US tour in october/november. ;)

I think their best album is WP... but it doesn't mean I don't like the other 4(5, mini maggit). There are some serious killer tracs on adrenaline but around the fur is perfect. be quiet and drive is awesome. It reminds me of summer and I listen a lot to it in winters

are there any deftones fans on this board? I've been a fan for a while now, I'm definitely looking forward to their new CD and the Taste of Chaos tour. After the Taste of Chaos tour, they're going to EU for a massive tour, then back to the US to do a club tour. I'm going to two Taste of Chaos shows. I'm also looking forward to seeing Thrice and Dredg on the tour.

Love the Deftones. I was kind of dissapointed with SNW on the first listen, but on repeated listens its really grown on me. I'd put it up there as probably their second best album - after White Pony of course. They'll never top that one i don't think

Out of the SNW tracks, Xerces wins for most repeated plays. Such a beautiful song

Just checked out the new album and it's really good. It seems simpler than their other stuff, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, more like they wanted to convey a mood and just wacked it out. I can definitely hear some influence of Chi's comatose state in the sentiments of some of the songs.

Diamond Eyes is better than White Pony. They jammed the guitar tone from Adrenaline (yes, that muffled sound) with the atmosphere of White Pony, and hit MIX!

CMND/CTRL is insanely angry and amazing, You've Seen the Butcher is just...incredible, Beauty School is the best of White Pony...

BEST Deftones album.

Tiny bit worried, because it's clearly going to be in June, and I have a pretty fucking hectic schedule as it is

May 29th - Slam Dunk
June 1st - Alkaline Trio
2nd - Exam
4th - Pixies
6th - Rage Against the Machine
7th - Exam

Hopefully it's after the 7th (or on the 7th :))

May 12th, that's not too bad. I have an essay due in on the 10th, so that will be done, and one on the 17th, so no real problems there.

Get tickets quickly, ULU is pretty small.

Insanely good album, really keeps growing on me.

Brutal opening, and then some great heavy/ambient pieces, picks up again with Rocket Skates and then Sextape and Risk bring the mood down again nicely.

Fantastic album, really well measured, good balance of heavy/melancholy/ambient and a well considered tracklist.

Back from the ULU gig. Fucking incredible. I think the setlist was identical to this one from Paris: http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/deftones/2010/la-boule-noire-paris-france-6bd4e2d6.html

Imo, just needed Bored and Nosebleed in place of When Girls Telephone Boys and Around the Fur, and it would have been perfect. Oh and Digital Bath. Literally couldn't ask for any more, they packed in some of my favourites (Knife Party, Passenger and Lotion) that I really wasn't expecting.

Also I found out just as I was leaving for the gig that it was supposed to start at 8, and my train arrived at Victoria (3 stations away) at 8:07. Due to a mix of running and fast walking I managed to make it in the middle of Rocket Skates, the first song, and have a piss before Diamond Eyes had started :D I'd have been gutted if I missed Knife Parfty and Passenger.

I finally got to listen to the new album for the first time the other day. Having only heard White Pony and Around the Fur, I can't say I'm a huge Deftones fan, but seriously, Diamond Eyes is ridiculously good. I'm not a fan of Around the Fur at all, apart from a few standout tracks, and I like Adrenaline a lot, but again, only half the tracks standout for me.

I guess what I meant to say was that Deftones are pretty hit and miss. At their best they are sublime, but they can be pretty poor. Imo, once you know the best songs off Deftones and Saturday Night Wrist, there's no reason to listen to the rest of those albums.
