My 'other' vote is for Space Rock...I remember it being classed as that somewhere once, and it's stuck ever since.

 indeed it is.

*observes poll results and randomly adds in*

Perhaps my lone vote on "indie" has something to do with the fact that I'm american? Guess our genre definitions differ over here, lol.

Hmmm. I think if I was to group their albums, I'd put Showbiz in a different genre.

But overall I'd say they're Rock. Or Britrock.

I'm going to give it more thought.

I don't think Muse have a specific genre, just because they incorperate many different styles. I guess Britrock is where they'll best fit, because it doesn't really mean anything.

Sophie.

I generally refer to them as Prog rock, as I see them similar in ways to bands like Pink Floyd and the Mars Volta. Failing that, I just call them rock.

I guess the genre of Muse has been changing alot over these years.
Showbiz - Britrock/Grunge?
O.O.S - Progressive/Rock.
Absolution - Pop/Experimental.

Sorry, but .

Experimental music is usually electronic-based.

Muse is nowhere near.

...

It really depends on the song. For example, songs like Starlight are simple pop music, other songs such as Hyper Music and Assassin are heavier rock with metal influences.

Am I right in thinking some of Muse's earlier heavy songs, such as Agitated and Ashamed, are psychedelic rock?

Rock. With classical, pop and punk influences. Really they are in a genre all their own, being very hard to classify as a single thing.
