Is it just me or are Goldfrapp genius! Alison sings like a angel and the music is wicked, theyve done classical, dance, house, they should have won that Brit!

I love them, and I was really disappointed that they didn't win the award too.

Utopia is one of my favourite songs.

*glam* - is it me, or do we like the same bands/artists? LOL!

Anyway, yes! I just discovered Goldfrapp! And there's no turning back! I first heard of her while watching the local music video chanels...and I was intrigued! She had great videos, but I didn't like her music (mind you, this was "Black Cherry" songs).

BUT 2 weeks ago, a friend recommended "Felt Mountain"...and boy, am I blown away! It's beautiful! Her voice is angelic, and sometimes operatic! It's very emotive, seductive and very smooth....I also got a chance to pick up "Black Cherry" (thought I'll give it another go) and guess what? I love it!!! It's far more electronica than the lush "Felt Mountain", but it's just as great! Although her vocals aren't the best on "Black Cherry," how can one resist "I'm in love, I'm in love, I'm in love with a strict machine!" :D

Listening to Goldfrapp makes you want to have sex, because their songs are so steamy and smutty and ace.

I love Alison, I think she's the only woman who can rescue me from homosexuality.

Interesting! Her debut album is sooo smooth...like sliding between silk sheets! But her second album...man! Hot! Electro! Steamy! "Strict Machine!" ;)

Why what kind of music dyou like?

Reuben
13-05-2004, 12:08 PM
Well, I said that because you also like Björk - since you posted in that thread. So yeah....MUSE, Björk and now Goldfrapp. Three is pretty good already! It's pretty good, as I have an eclectic taste in music. A lot of my friends usually like one band I like. But you so far like 3! LOL!

Anyway, heavily into the club/dance music, also alternative rock, and now trip-hop.

Here's my fav top 10 artists/bands:

01. Rob Dougan
02. MUSE
03. Radiohead
04. Björk
05. Massive Attack
06. Madonna
07. Starsailor
08. UNKLE
09. Aaliyah
10. Goldfrapp

Some are bloody fantastic, some are commercial, some are just plain odd. My taste changes a lot...but I guess this is the stable bunch I always keep on turning back to. What do you like?

Good question! Whatever it is, it's definitely a sexy machine by the sound of that song. Maybe it's some sort of robot that is programmed to give you spanks when you're being naughty?!!! ;)

Aside from Muse, Goldfrapp are my favourite band. I've seen them twice live and I'm going to see them again on their next tour. I saw them for the first time when they just released Felt Mountain, and it was amazing, just about 200 people there, and we were about 6 foot away from her.

I love Goldfrapp.

Definitely agree! :D

Keeping to the Goldfrapp themed thread....I like her changing looks! Especially on her first album...She looked like Sophie Ellis Bexter/Geri Halliwell in "Pilots"...one of my favourite songs....and then all dark and moody as a brunette for "Human" (LOVE this song....Björk meets Shirley Bassey) and then all innocent and lovely on "Utopia"! But her latest video clips, "Train", "Strict Machine" and "Twist" are all very intriguing, different and fascinating to watch!

WHAT???? WTF?? Close to 40? No way!!! Take a look at her gorgeous "Pilots" video clip...looks like a young Sophie Ellis Baxtor or Geri Halliwell...stunning.

I do admit that the big crimped hair and excessive makeup on "Train" made her quite old...but I would have put her in late 20's, early 30's....

YES YES YES YES YES

Goldfrapp have announced their first live dates in more than a year, DIY can reveal.

Alison Goldfrapp and co. will play the gigs following the release of new single 'Ooh La La' on August 8th and an album of the same name on August 22nd.

The single is described by Alison as “sulky, sexual and a bit ambiguous” and she says of the accompanying video "it harks back to Eno era Roxy Music and old Top of the Pops"

Of their upcoming, eagerly anticipated third album, Alison says: “We’ve made an electronic, glam cross between Berlin, New York and north-east Somerset.”

Prior to the UK tour dates, the band will make festival appearances over the summer at V2005, Electric Picnic in Dublin, Creamfields in Spain, Pukklepop, and Rock en Seine in Paris.

The UK dates are as follows:

October
06 Brixton Academy, London
08 University, Manchester

Tickets to all shows and festivals are on sale now.

Saw the video over the weekend; bit more like the old Felt Mountain stuff in terms of atmosphere, didn't seem to have as much in the way of a tune as some of their previous stuff. Video as weird as hoped for though:happy:

Sounds like a good idea to me! If you want any tips where to start just ask. The three albums are quite different and depending on what you like already, I could suggest which you'd likely enjoy more. Supernature is the most immediate, Felt Mountain the more atmospheric but Black Cherry is a bit of both. My fave too, not though you'd get any idea of that from my username of course...

You can now hear the new single on their myspace before it's out in February. Tickets for the tour go onsale this Friday- so pleased I found out early- must check to see if there isn't some website queue jump for tickets- don't want another QUOTA scenario all over again where the tickets are gone before they even go on general sale:mad:

They've got quite a few of their songs on the Goldfrapp myspace so you could try them out to see which songs from what album you like most.

Felt Mountain has Lovely Head (one of my all time faves) but it's short and there's some things there begging for the skip button.

Black Cherry is better. Not as consistent as Supernature, but more varied and inspired. Train, Strict Machine, Black Cherry and Forever are all quality:)

They are choons are they not? Tiptoe is absolutely enormous live. Seen them make an arena vibrate they played it so heavily. That big.

Lovely Head is to me, Goldfrapp's SMBH insofar as the studio version is never matched by the live version. One of the most achingly beatiful songs ever. Adore it to pieces. Was utterly and totally blown away the first time I heard it.:happy:

Aww, am well jealous of you chaps going to see them again:(. Not coming round my way on that tour. Having said that, saw them 4 weeks ago at the Sage. Ever so good. Too much perhaps from Seventh Tree and virtually nothing from Felt Mountain (beyond a heartbreakingly perfect Utopia- blissful!).

Preferred their show when they were touring to promote Supernature if I'm honest, but I'd still rather see them than pretty much any band other than Muse, they're that good:happy:

hmm which one is "Between my legs I'm knickerless" ? Twist isn't it?

Imo first or second album is best, I can't really pick between them, which is no bad thing, 3rd album was a bit lazy but I still liked quite a lot of it, particularly Satin Chic. And I quite like the 4th album.

<spaffs> Excellent choice! - Aaliyah...

Hmm, slightly MacCollish. You've got me thinking there...hard to rate the albums for me. Some of my favourite songs aren't on what I consider to be the better albums, some of which are more consistent.

I'll always have some special affection for Felt Mountain because that's how I discovered them in the first place. I prefer the middle two by far though, not really possible to say which I like better, it depends on the mood really. Much as I love Seventh Tree, for some reason it doesn't quite get to me as much as the other three do. Can't explain why....

I can't remember how I got into the Frapp. I think I heard it at a party while drunk, and went for it. I think it was still in the days of Felt Mountain.

Weird music for a party! I'll always remember how I got into them. I was laid up in bed ill and could do bugger all except listen to music. By chance I found Felt Mountain which my brother had recorded for me a year or so before that I'd never got round to listening to. And that was it. About 30 seconds later I was in love:happy:

Damn. I love dancers. I think rock bands should seriously borrow more from dance culture and spruce up their performances a bit with proper images, themes, and dancers. Ace show, then.

They don't really have the dancers this time around sadly. The show tends to reflect the more folky, pastoral thing that's going on with Seventh Tree. It's more about the lighting and stuff this time around. That said, it's no less interesting/beautiful and all that to watch. I was pissed off that the time I did see them on the Supernature tour they didn't have the dancers with the horses heads etc- no dancers at all!! Must have been about the only gig where that didn't happen....

Did anyone see them on the Electric Proms the other night? Were only on 30 minutes, but it was still ace. They did a really odd version of Ooh la la- slide guitar country thing. It worked, but I still like the original better. They had a big string section, harps, backing singers (in animal masks, clowns robes). What annoyed me was the audience. They just sat there as if they were waiting for a doctors appointment rather than at gig. Had I been there I'd have been making a loon of myself, loving every minute of it....Goldfrapp- wasted on some people:phu:

Which is strange, Muse is my favourite band, and you cannot compare the two, as they are vastly different (but somehow the same) but I have a history with Black Cherry... Every road trip, every holiday, every milestone party... BC was there

I love the dancers (I'm a Madonna fan, I have to love the dancers!) And yes, I get what you mean by the Frapp is wasted on mere mortals... much like Muse, actually.

Woah... Superpost! Sounds like a song from the Frapp, actually. :erm:

Err, the superpost.... that kind of thing happens when I get enthusiastic about something:LOL: And yeah, there is something v sexy about their music, but in a sensual way (not all Pussycat Dolls grubby) which is far more sexy....restrained... (potentially in both senses of the word:LOL:).

Nice to know there's others out there who have Goldfrapp soundtracking their lives...so many of their songs evoke memories now, nearly all good:happy: Even cooler to see someone who shares my love of Black Cherry- more than any Muse allbum....(but sometimes it does vie with Absolution to be my favourite album ever).

Muse and Goldfrapp fans. We know where it is at. Discerning bods that we are;)

Nooo! Hope they sort that out.

A what?:erm:

Already have heurgh heurgh etc etc:eyebrows: Twist is just filthy really, so much so, my bloke can't listen to it, says it's just too cringe. Bless him:LOL:

Hmm, slightly MacCollish. You've got me thinking there...hard to rate the albums for me. Some of my favourite songs aren't on what I consider to be the better albums, some of which are more consistent.

I'll always have some special affection for Felt Mountain because that's how I discovered them in the first place. I prefer the middle two by far though, not really possible to say which I like better, it depends on the mood really. Much as I love Seventh Tree, for some reason it doesn't quite get to me as much as the other three do. Can't explain why....

They don't really have the dancers this time around sadly. The show tends to reflect the more folky, pastoral thing that's going on with Seventh Tree. It's more about the lighting and stuff this time around. That said, it's no less interesting/beautiful and all that to watch. I was pissed off that the time I did see them on the Supernature tour they didn't have the dancers with the horses heads etc- no dancers at all!! Must have been about the only gig where that didn't happen....

So was it good? Soooo jealous (they never came up here this time around:'() would love to see the photos.

Aye they did sort it out

Yeh amazing :D great view frm the barrier hehehe  yeh still not got my fone fixed as been working. I'll go into the vodafone shop tomz wen im in london and see what they say about it. but fingers crossed they will be on here in a few days/wks

But this band were exceptionally rubbish. On Goldfrapp's last tour they had a band called the Shortwave Set as support and they were actually quite good. Went and got the album and was impressed.

Largely the exception to the rule though. Seen some really dismal bands as supports:(

Rocket is pretty cool, in an 80s way. I'm looking forward to the album. I'd definitely prefer something more like Black Cherry or Supernature to Seventh Tree, although Seventh Tree was still a good album.

I'm a huge fan of Goldfrapp, they're my favorite artist of all time, very close to Muse as well (as you can tell from my user name and from me being on this message board). I will admit that Head First isn't one of their best albums. It sounds too commercial (which isn't a bad thing, but as an artist like Goldfrapp, they can do so much better, I know they can).

First got into them in 2002 and haven't looked back since. Black Cherry and Felt Mountain are my favorite of their albums (especially Felt Mountain).

I just hope their next sixth album that their writing and recording right now are better than HF. I'm not saying that Head First is bad even songs such as Voicething and Hunt are good. Dreaming was also one of my favorite songs from them in recent years.

Hi all,

I'm new on this forum

I'm goldfrapp fans and a muse fan too (look at my last.fm profile (http://www.lastfm.it/user/awebapart))

I'd like to resume this thread in order to show you my last job, a website dedicated to this amazing band.

the url is http://www.goldfrappmania.com

There are a lot of pictures, video, gigs and news about goldfrapp. There is also a section called "flasbacks" with a lot of goodies and curiosity from their past, for the new fans who want to know something more about goldfrapp. The website allow the user to customize its look by choosing from the styles referred to their album.

goldfrappmania.com is also a community, so you can register to it, in order to post comment and publish album, create your own blog and something more.

I'd love to get your opinions and suggestions

thank you in advance
