Was talking about this show: http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/placebo/2010/earth-theatre-thessaloniki-greece-3bd5e07c.html

Just for clarification.

lol, the people in the comment section are worse than some of the people here.

"Brian Molko wasn't feeling right at the time, & even though, maybe the band didn't play for a long time, but atleast they came, there may have been a fight backstage maybe, Brian did not see any respect in Greek. There was a fight in the audience though, so Brian decided to stop playing.. + they could also be tired! There in a tour! Let them rest! A day before that, they had a concert in Sofia.. So he must have been tired. Show respect and think mature for other people.."

Jesus...

That setlist makes no sense. There must be some good reason as to why it was short, because that's pretty out of character for this tour.

EDIT: I'm not making a defence for the band, I'm just saying that it's pretty random to do a shortened show. Part of me wonders if it was beef with the organisers/promoters...and it's not like they hate Greece since they did a full set in Athens the following the night.

I dunno. Confusing.

From what I've gathered, Brian got annoyed at something certain fans were doing (I heard there was a fight or something) so he finished the set early. If that's the case, I'm sorry but that's bullshit. There were more than just TWO people there. They suffer because of two people? If that's the case then that's not a very professional way of dealing with things.

I'm not sure if that's the case but the setlist looks like a condensed version of what they'd normally play. If he really did cut it early the setlist would be far, far, far less structured than that.

Is there any audio/video from this gig that gives any hints?

But yeah, Molko is still a diva from time to time.

Florenceblue

I've read various reports some saying that it was a problem with a security guard to the fact that the gig was scheduled to finish early. All very confusing.

Yeah, it's not like they just stopped after 14 songs, they've actually taken stuff out from the usual setlist in earlier places and gone off for an encore. Very weird.

Well Echos list their Loaded night as friday. But there is zero publicity for Placebo, and the band (or their website) say it's tomorrow, but that's cheese night and this is a Placebo event, not a Muse one.

SO CONFUSING!

That was pretty good. Better than the O2 show. Setlist was the standard for the tour. I have a bag full of confetti and a balloon with 'DEATH AND FEAR' emblazoned on it.

That's all you need to know really.

Sorry that I had to run asap guys. After the train palava I experienced on Thursday I didn't want to take my chances. Nice seeing you all though.

I've read some other reviews and people sound very enthusiastic. Shame about the problem with the O2 priority...unfair to the real fans. Also frustrating to have to remain seated in the circle! People seemed to do pretty well with wristbands and freebies if they turned up in clown fancy-dress. Lucky people heading along tonight...

Hi everyone, I'm hoping you can help me out. I have only recently started listening to Placebo and I really like them. However, I have only listened to the "artist radio" on my MOG account and haven't purchased anything yet. What albums do you suggest I start with, i.e. Meds or Sleeping with Ghosts? OR should I just purchase some songs individually from each album if each one has some 'must-haves'? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

They have a variety of styles honestly, but these are definitely among my favourite cebo tracks:

Taste In Men... One of a Kind... Kitty Litter... I'll Be Yours... Trigger Happy Hands... Lady of the Flowers... Sleeping with Ghosts... Bulletproof Cupid... I Know... Meds... Julien... My Sweet Prince... Happy You're Gone... Scared of Girls... Post Blue... Fuck U...

I could list more but I'll stop now... I tried to stay away from obvious singles, they do have a singles compilation for sale which is a good way to get into the band but they only scratch the surface.

They were meant to tour last year but the dates were cancelled because of Brian's exhaustion.

ever?

Battle for the Sun is the only album that they didn't tour here. Like Max said, they were supposed to last year, but it got "postponed" - pretty sure they won't be back until the next album now.

But they're still a relatively unknown act here. The American tours have been very short and in small clubs and theatres since even the early days. They did get a stint on Linkin Park's Projekt Revolution tour a few years back. I think that helped a little bit to get them better known, but it's hard to maintain that without any kind of timely follow-up.

Muse used to be the same exact way here for many years, but they did some extensive touring (including high profile support slots), and their record label has really pushed them into the mainstream with promotions and exposure. That's really how you have to make it here, but Brian really does seem quite unwilling to do any of those things.

*edit - And that's not a swipe at him at all - he shouldn't be forced into doing anything he doesn't want; I actually got the sense that the band used to love coming here and almost being a "new band" every time. But they should be HUGE here, just like everywhere else in the world. It's not really fair how this country works.

Well they were huge in the UK in the late 90s and then Brian didn't play the media game so they all turned on him and ridiculed the band so I really don't think he's that bothered. Obviously a shame for any US fans that want to see them but I really can't see Placebo doing what Muse did.

I just think it's a shame because I truly think they are making the best work of their career (BFTS is quite possibly the best Placebo album..?) and it seems to be falling on deaf ears. I wish good music could just be taken at face value here and bands didn't have to play into the corporate mind control games the media plays. It's appalling and if it turns Brian off, I don't blame him one bit.

Indeed. I think it's at least their second best if not best, but it's had relatively little exposure even over here. Seemed Placebo's popularity dipped in the mainstream so much around the Black Market Music/Sleeping With Ghosts era.

i'm sure brian is fine, just resting up and stuff. i guess he's getting older and touring around the world would be very stressful
i watched this documentary on youtube last night called "a new tomorrow" it was about their asian tour this year, and brian narrated the whole thing. then he said how he has a fear of flying and how its always stressful to travel for tours because of that and the demanding schedule etc so i guess a combination of all that would make him sick.
it'd be good if the website released some news about how he's going. wonder if he saw the pfww get well slideshow

About all sorts really! He asked me how to spell "balcony" Hmm.

I had to ask when they are going back to studio (not until next year, pahh) and we talked about tattoos and music and mobiles and that. He was generally very, very nice and friendly. Apparantly while Placebo are off now he works as a tattoo artist somewhere in Shepherds Bush. So he might frequent in that area, really...

I'm just really lucky with this stuff it seems. I just stumble into stuff :D

Well, I am sort of planning to get my first tattoo, he thought my idea was original and good... Though he was saying that if I want to get it in the front of my shoulder it kinda looks like there needs to be ones on both sides, or I could just put it on the side of my shoulder... It's quite good, I was planning to go to a tattooist to have a question session but he actually replied to lots of mine! That's when he said I should come to the place where he works as the other guys are talented too and you would want to get a skillful artist- after all, it stays there forever!

I actually quite like Meds. First album I got by them. I really like all the tracks excpet for Drag, which i a but of a drag (hurr hurr lame pun) and the cold light of morning.

Really? I do like BFTS (much better than Meds which I didn't like at all) but I still prefer WYIN and SWG. I'd say, WYIN is still my favourite Placebo album.

You're hypersteph on PFWW, right? I'm luxembourgerqueen/Megan

Also, wow everyone loves BFTS here? It's a great album but my least favourite. Love all the albums but WYIN and BMM are my absolute favourites <3.

I can understand people not liking Brian's voice but it's one of the things that I love most about Placebo. Also if people don't like Brian's voice I don't think BFTS would be a good album to start on (as someone suggested) because his voice is really overbalanced in a lot of the BFTS, sounding too loud compared to the instruments. Compare the BFTS album to the live versions of the songs and they're a lot better. Well imo.
Also I'm not saying BFTS is bad, really it's amazing but I place the other albums higher.

I've only been a fan for a couple months, and I've only heard Meds, SWG, and WYIN, until last night. I bought BFTS a couple weeks ago, but never got around to listening to it because a bunch of people said it was shit. BFTS is an amazing album, I just prefer their drug fulled, depressive, raw sound from earlier albums. But of course it's good that they're off the drugs now and if they just kept making the same type of album they would've gotten boring, so I like that they change it up for each album. But really my favourite album depends on what mood I'm in and Placebo can offer me all types of music to enjoy.

About Brian's voice...I started out hating it and hating the band in general, but gradually I got used to it and fell in love with his voice, it's not something that you like straightaway. Well that's what happened to me at least...

Happy Placebo Day everyone! (May 2nd)
If you don't know what I'm talking about:
"Placebo Day" is the unofficial holiday for fans of the rock band Placebo, held annually on 2 May. Its origin lies in a lyric from the band's song "The Bitter End": "We're running out of alibis/On the second of May."
The original group to have started this holiday seems to be the LiveJournal Placebo fan group "placebowhores" (placebowhores.livejournal.com) although it may have originated elsewhere.

Make sure you add some Placebo goodness to your day :D

He's really taken on the English accent a lot by the sounds of that video. It's become a strange mix between an American and English accent....soon he'll have a weird combo like Brian  (Scottish, American, English, Luxembourgerian, Belgian etc).

I need to get the DVD sometime, especially for the documentary, they always have really interesting documentaries.

Battle for the Sun is now one of my favourite albums by Placebo.
Kings of Medicine is one of the best songs they've ever done. And Speak in Tongues and Julien are also brilliant.

Not the kind of big surprise I was hoping for, but it's definitely good that they're playing at least 1 show this year.

And yes it's worth the money. 35 pounds + 10 pounds booking fees is sooo cheap (at least for shows down under), it's really not fair. We'd pay almost double that...

It's not cheap considering I don't have an income.

It's 2000 capacity, so pretty small for Placebo. I usually mentally add £10 onto a ticket price to cover booking fees and postage anyways.

Got three standing tickets, so excited! It will be my 20th Placebo gig

I also got into Placebo yesterday and I'm really impressed with the band. Molko's voice is amazing! I'm listening through their discography and so far I can say that I'm really damn impressed with "Without You I'm Nothing" (song). It reminds me of "Showbiz" (song) which is my favorite Muse song. Really liking their music and I'm turning into a massive fan already. Thanks Sippe!

I mean, it's good n'all, but they've had ages of time off from touring - at least mix it up a bit.It was pretty much the brixton setlist with a few tweaks. In saying that, It's not outside the realms of possibilty thay they had to change stuff up halfway through since brian fucked one of his pedals (His delay I think) after Soulmates. I suppose the acid test is the Liverpool and London setlists
