I'm listening to Mellow Gold right now, and it's amazing how much the guy's changed in terms of music.
I'm absolutely in love with Midnite Vultures and Odelay...
I listened to a track or two off Sea changes, but didn't really like it (if anyone's got the album, tell me if it's worth getting after all).

YES YES YES...i'm very obsessed with midnite vultures and odelay as well.....i've got all of the albums except for mellow gold, which i've listened to alot....i really dig beck.......if you are into string arrangements, you should certainly get sea change.... i'm not positive, but i think beck's dad did them. i know he did some on midnite vultures....like on "nicotine and gravy" the cool breakdown with the girls singing "naaaaaa na na naaaaa"....his dad did that, which i think is a very very creative use of strings in the context given. but anyhow, string arrangements aren't the only thing to get the album for..beck is brilliant as usual, but exponentially more straightforward in his lyrics and delivery. There's some pretty heartwrenching lines in that album...i love it....i think nigel godrich (radiohead) did an amazing job on the production as usual.

Sea Changes is certainly more mellow than his older material, but I still think it's worth having; if you find it boring, at least it's great to hear how much he's evolved over the years.

Beck is amazing, I love the man, I've got Sea Change and it's a beautifull album, though sometimes I find it a bit slow and get bored and skip a few songs, but it's got amazing lyrics, you should buy it but only if you like slow songs (kind of like... hmm.... midnight vultures and odelay are quite different though... i would be more inclined to put odelay and mellow gold together, even though they are different, they're more similar, if you know what i mean...

Odelay is a really good first Beck record to own. It's got "Where It's At," "Devil's Haircut," and "New Pollution" on it. A bit of everything really.

i JUST got my copy of the delux 2 disk edition with the dvd, and oh holy hell, it's good. it's real good. black tamborine, hell yes, go it alone (feat. Jack White), e-pro....wow.
it's got that distinctive 'beck' feel to it, mainly on 'hell yes' and "send a message to her". "fax machine anthem" feels like synth acid wash beats, while "earthquake weather" is oh so introspective (or is it??). then dvd is just plain ol' cool, art students are gonna be all over it! by far MY favorite song is "chain reaction" for sure...

in short, pick this up. if you dont feel like dishing out for the DVD extra, at least get the standard CD album.

it's been two years, but more than worth it... ( I dont think it's on the lower levels of beck standards, but who am i?)

Saw Beck in Glasgow on Sunday. Was pretty fucking great. He did some great acoustic stuff in the middle. And he was wearing cool beads. The man's a god.

I just came back from seeing him at Hammersmith. This dude is AMAZINGLY creative! He is just so damn cool. His voice, is even more PHWOAR live.

The concert itself was so much fun. Rather than just have an acoustic part, his band sat down and had a meal on stage whilst beck played and they contributed by using the cutlery, dishes etc to add their own erm "effect". Crazy stuff and an extremely enjoyable concert.

This is the most quirkiest concert I've been to but it was incredible. All the stuff from Guero sounded really good, especially E-Pro and Girl. There are also tracks that I recognised the sounds off but don't know the names of. Setlist anyone? The table/acoustic thing was the funniest thing I've seen at a concert in years. The crowd were also really into it which was pretty good. Brendan Benson was good as a support act but his stuff was very samey. The crowd really didn't fill up in the arena (especially in the seating area) until just before the main show started. Probably distracted by the Carling. :D

He also worked on Paul's Boutique with the Beastie Boys, and he worked with Tom Green on his upcoming album. He performed with Tom here just a couple weeks back, too. :happy: Can't wait for that album to come out.

I only have Guero & Sea change, and I like both. What I really find amazing, is how different Sea Change is from all his other stuff (or at least the singles I've heard off his others albums) and yet it's still an awesome album. The ability to make all these wacky-cool songs on one hand, and make slow, touching, brilliant songs just becuase his g\f dumped him (or maybe it was the other way around, I don't really know\care) on the other hand, is with out a doubt a mark of a genious.

I listened to 'Mutations' 100 times and more, still love it.
Especially 'We Live Again' 'Dead Melodies' 'Sing It Again' ... they are all mellow and maybe not your typical Beck, but I think both lyrics and the melodies are beautiful.

For the older stuff, I like 'Mixed Bizness (Cornelius remix)' . He is a great sound magician, too. :cool:

Does anyone remember how Beck introduced White Stripes at the Grammy in 2003, btw? He discribed them with poetic words.

Its sounds so fucking amazing. Its kind of like midnight vultures..and very mellow in places. Best album this year for me.

Bought it today with the dvd. It has videos of every song:D its really damn good. Also the packaging is the best ever! you create your own artwork with stickers! i mean how fucking ace is that!!!!:D :D

I thought it was his weakest work to date but still pretty damn ace all told! is the DVD any good? The promo they sent me wont play on my proper stereo so might get that if it's worth it.
Yeah its pretty good. Loads of effects and crazy stuff going on..reminds me of the Liars dvd in some sense.

The first Beck I liked a lot was Sea Change... still my favorite. I'd always liked selected tracks before. After Sea Change, I tried Mutations and liked that instantly. Information has been more of a grower. I've found I get addicted to some of the sounds in that album though and I kept coming back to it even though I initially was a bit disappointed with its sound. Now I think there's only a few weak tracks (where they usually are in albums... after the halfway point and before the end). The first several are full of addicting sounds and beats. Beck seems to have the knack for making genres I don't like good (like country and rap).

bah don't say that...I know it sounds like a creepy cult (and I am in no way advocating it) but he, like quite a few others, grew up with it as their religion, just like parents push Christianity or Judiasm on their kids...he didn't get into it and pour funds into it like Tom Cruise and John Travolta did.

I love the new album, it's quite downbeat but really fucking cool. Doesn't drag on like The Information did (although I loved that one too, it was just super long)...Chemtrails is the early favorite for me.
