But that for me is what makes it so amazing
partly agree about Overdue though
i completely agree with the falsetto part, and i completely disagree with overdue (never fails making me cry in bliss)

Con-Science and Soaked, for me.
I used to dislike SS and GL, but I kept listening to them and now I love them, but it does not work for the formers.:(

I agree on only really liking "Micro Cuts" for the ending riff and finding the falsetto kind of annoying, but I think the unintelligible falsetto is part of what makes the song stand out. Even though it can be a bit annoying, I wouldn't want it any other way though. Still not a favorite of mine :\
I usually skip through a third of Showbiz ("Fillip", "Falling Down", "Escape", and "Overdue"), so there's that.
I also really dislike "Guiding Light" on the CD, since my speakers tend to make the bass completely over power the drums and it sounds awful, but I loved it when I saw them on Friday and hope they release a professionally recorded live from almost any performance! I feel like a lot of Muse's songs that I dislike on CD still sound amazing live, and hearing them live or on a concert DVD makes me appreciate them more.
I don't really like "Feeling Good" either, but I love the original and to me, nothing can compare. I'm not a big cover song fan anyways.

Undisclosed Desires is deffinitly one i can't stand. its so not muse...they shouldnt try that ever again.
If I had to pick one, it'd be Undisclosed Desires. Coming from any other band it'd be quality, but coming from Muse...it just doesn't feel right. Although I guess we do get to see the keytar being broken out when they play it live...

Undisclosed Desires > Execution Commentary, Coma, Jimmy Kane, Fillip, Cave, Sober, Escape, Overdue, Agitated, Yes Please, Ashamed, The Small Print, Thoughts of a Dying Athiest, Exo Politics, City of Delusion and Unnatural Selection.
In my opinion. :D

It'll probably grow on me but it just feels un-Musey...and when I saw them play it live, both times the crowd energy seemed to die down a bit...whereas when they play songs like Hysteria the energy is awesome. I really hope their next album isn't a bunch of UD!

I agree with people that Undisclosed Desires is a but un-Musey, but I really don't think that's a bad thing at all. I think the song is a fantastic twist from the usual stuff they do, however I agree that the next album shouldn't all be trying to sound like Undisclosed. That's just my opinion
Also, Thoughts of a Dying Atheist is amazing ;)

You don't like Unintended? DEMON.
But no personally I think either Screenager or Space Dementia is their worst. A couple of b-sides are not so great but I just find the former two songs boring and tiresome to listen to.

Only that which you don't enjoy as much as the others.

really? I thought it was nice, tune, lyrics and slow, yes, but in a good way. How come you don't like it? JW.
BH&R i guess appealed to me more than the others cause i heard Muse's songs off there first. The Supermassive Black Hole video was what started it all really. Then i checked out that CD, loved it. Checked out their prevous CDs after, and just fell in. So maybe that's why :P

i guess it's just a matter of opinion. but also you have to consisder how each song is put together not just if you like the sound. for me i think soldiers poem isn't a good song because i don't think muse put a lot of effort in to the song. another song i don't like is invincible. i can see though that muse put time and effort into this song to make it song good but it wasn't put together well. the vocals and guitar DON"T compliment eachother the way they couldve.

it's a matter of opinion mate. i like smbh live versions so it aint that bad i guess but it's overrated for the amount of hype it gets.. it wouldnt have been that big if it didnt have its twilight connections. usoe is good for like the first 30 seconds, but i dont really like the main melody. feeling good is the only weak link on their best album..im not saying its a bad song, rather its just one of their worst songs & im kinda glad they didnt play it at the concert i saw in January this year

"Guiding Light." I'm probably going to get bad flack for this, but I don't care. I was introduced to Muse through the album "Absolution," and this song just strays too far from the sound I'm looking for when I listen to Muse. And really... I only really like "Undisclosed Desires," "MK Ultra," and all three "Exogenesis" symphonies on the Resistance album.
Also, I don't really like it when they start to stray into sounding too much like Queen (not referring to "Guiding Light" here anymore). I listen to Muse to listen to Muse, not Queen.

OK fine hyper music is pretty good, but compared to the rest of the album, (bar feeling good) it's nothing special. I do not like glorius or easily at all. I just don't like the style of BH&H that much.....I mean Knights of Cydonia is the BH&R equivilent to SS. And the two songs are worlds apart, with SS ahead.
So I repent hyper music, but glorius I hate, and I'm adding easily

Koc or Assassin (Grand Omega Bosses Edit) are every bit as good as SS for sure.
I don't think they are. The drumming is good in assassin but the riff is bad and the middle section in the edit flops horribly imo. Knights is just not powerful enough for me to hold the closing slot in Muse's current gigs so it pisses me off...

Knights build up to an epic conclusion though. The new intro just magnifies that 10 fold. You know its the end, and you know is going to be big. Slap on the Space Dementia outro and you couldn't close a Muse gig any better.

You really can close a gig 1000 times better. Muse at glastonbury '04 closed with SS is their finest moment. The amazing song, the scream, the riff and jamming and stage destruction is soo musch better than the cheesy knights dancer riff

It might be because of its album placing, but I always feel SS is about to lead on into another song. It builds up well, but fades out on a repetitive riff, much like Hysteria. Even with the added riffage live, it feels like something even bigger is to follow.
Maybe its just me lol.

That is true to the album version. But when matt screams his balls of (at glasto '04) you know its the end. Besides, Muse haven't written anything bigger or better that can follow it.

Con-Science is awful. To pull that kind of understated shit off your lyrics and melodies have to be amazing, and at that point Matt's weren't.
Other than that, I don't like Prague or Can't Take My Eyes Off You. I also never listen to Solider's Poem or Sober, although I can tolerate them both.
I think Guiding Light is alright.

soldier's poem, unintended, and guiding light may not be creative or rocking or awe-inspiring with beauty or anything, but they're still better than any song of any other band at any given time. at least I think so.
prague and please please please let me get what I want are the worst by far. undeserving of being covered, and not even muse covering those songs can fix their irreparable awfulness.

You know, while Endlessly is easily my least favorite song off Absolution, there are much worse songs in Muse's library. That probably says more about how darn good Absolution was, though.
That also goes for a lot of the songs off Showbiz - I'm pretty indifferent to the majority of the album, but aside from perhaps Fillip and Sober, I don't dislike any of them. (that said, Sober is probably my least favorite song off a Muse LP, but not my least favorite overall)

I know everyone has their own take on Muse and different albums/songs will mean different things to each of us. But I'm truely shocked at the lack of love for Showbiz. It's an endless debate as to which is the best album etc but so so suprised that there are quite a few people on here that feel the way they do.
When they slipped Cave into the setlist at Teignmouth I was over the moon. Just as the night they dropped Sunburn (which I thought could never be a permanent thing). Personally, I'd go nuts to hear the likes of Sober, Unintended, Muscle Musem, Showbiz and Uno live again.

I think the guitar riff and Matt's angsty vocals going throughout the song make the lyrics sound angry and urgent. As if it's too late for the person that rejected him to come back and sends that person a warning to stay away because he is better off without her. Plus the sexy bass in the background is awesome. How about spiral static? Never really accustomed to it.
Its ok but a bit meh
Songs I don't really like:
Undisclosed Desires
I Belong To You
Glorious
Songs that are kinda eh to me:
Uprising- I like it if I'm in the mood and I like it more live, but it's just not one of my favs
Supermassive Black Hole
Songs I like that some don't seem to like much:
Guiding Light- I love the vocals. The bass almost gets to me but the vocals compensate
Blackout- one of my favorite songs ever! I think it's absolutely beautiful
Soldier's Poem- absolutely beautiful as well. It just shows how Matt is brilliant at doing anything, soft or hard. And yes, I am aware that that was a "that's what she said" moment

Nor I, I absolutely love that song. I put it on repeat when I am driving and sing along in an atrocious fashion.
Endlessly is such a straight up good song! It has so many background parts it's just fun to pick out all that went into it  I don't understand the hate either.
Sober is my least favourite. It is too shallow for Muse.
:yesey: Sober suits muse as bad as country music
And am the only one here that likes Guiding Light? Or Endlessly? Or FALLING DOWN?! I freaking LOVE Falling Down. Amazing song!
I don't particularly like Guiding Light, but that's mostly because of the style not necessarily the music (close minded i know :( ) but I actually love falling down aswell!
Least favorite songs:
Con-science, sorry, I CAN get through listening to it but if I just heard some band play it i'd probably think something like, 'what is this moody 4 note shittiness?' i mean, it's emotional which can be nice, but a 14 year old can be emotional and... ergh i guess it's ok because it's a b-side from showbiz but really

That's ok. :yesey: But I've always thought that people NEED to be open minded to like Muse. :chuckle: But you're ok. Falling Down is indeed a fantastic song. The first time I listened to it, I was in class last year and one of my friends was sitting next to me and he saw me crying. Haha! :chuckle: He was worried about me to say the least.

When I first read this thread title, SMBH was the first song that came into my head.
I've never really liked it, I've tried to get into it an' all but just can't. I don't think Twilight has helped either.
Now, however, Nature_1 and Prague are my least favourite along with SMBH.

If Execution Commentary and Hidden Track count as songs then they're the worst, failing that it has to be one of the ancient Showbiz era b-sides like Agitated or Yes Please.

Guiding Light is good repetitive movement music, but Sober, I thought for the longest time that he sang 'the spicy vomit had mended me'. That image stuck with me despite finding out what the lyrics were later.
LMAO. That's hilarious. Now I'm gonna think that too.

All this hate for Invincible, Endlessly, Blackout, Hoodoo, Unintended, Soldier's Poem and Screenager depresses me. All very moving songs.
Agreed, those are mostly songs I like to really like. I used to not care for Blackout and Hoodoo, but then they grew on me, especially Hoodoo, that song is amazing. I love and have always loved Unintended and Endlessly, and used to really like Invincible, but I don't seem to like it quite as much as I used to. I've never really gotten into Screenager, but I don't hate it, I probably just need to listen to it more.
The songs I probably like the least...
I Belong to you... when he starts singing in french, I can't take it seriously, especially since I went through french immersion, so I'm used to people who can ACTUALLY speak the language. I also don't care much for Sober or Undisclosed Desires. Also Megalomania, Overdue and Microcuts, but I think those are just cases of not having listened to those songs enough.

I've never even listened to Prague. I was busy when it was released and when I finally got around to listening to it I stopped it in the first minute like 'wow thisisbad' and then saw everyone else saying 'wow thisisbad' and I forgot about the whole thing and I don't plan on listening to it.

Pffft! They've been going downhill, but all three of those songs are brilliant. Infact, those are 3 of the best rather than worst on each album (and there are some genuinely terrible songs in there to choose from).
It looks like Neutron Star Collision may be a contender to unseat Invincible, Guiding Light, Starlight and whatever that laughable unreleased/given away song was called ('Soaked' was it?) though!

Going downhill? I don't think we're looking at the same data. Sure, the style keeps changing, but the fanbase, the recognitions, and the sales keep increasing. Yet, I'd make Sober disappear if I could.
That is definitely not what i'm judging the music on.
Yeah Showbiz has some dodgy tracks, although even they sound brilliant compared to some of the more recent tracks. But I should clarify that I think the music has gone gradually downhill since OOS, in terms of inventiveness, quality, and originality. It's not for me as steady a decline as some more hysterical complainers would have it. I personally think Stockholm Syndrome, Hysteria, TSP, TAB, SMBH, MOTP, Undisclosed Desires, MK Ultra, Uprising, and Exogenesis (Part 1 at least) are not so far away from those songs on OOS (and several of those on Hullabaloo). And I don't hold with the idea that the other albums are bad either, they're all good, they're just not going to be in my favourites of all time. But nevertheless, slowly that inventiveness which peaked in consistency in OOS has seeped away.
Older fans tended to fall in love with Muse's music because it broke musical clichés, and as part of this was not easy listening but wonderfully noisy and edgy. However recent songs like Starlight/Invincible/Guiding Light/Resistance/Soaked/(and it looks likely) Neutron Star Collision are incredibly clichéd and go out of their way to try and present a cheesy, easy-listening Muse. Even when they attempt to be boundary pushing these days they seem to do so through an accumulation of clichés and self repetition. For those older fans this doesn't only not work, but more importantly represents everything they originally saw Muse's music as being a reaction against. Hence the frustration and out of proportion reaction.

To be fair, from each album:
A few from Showbiz (i.e. Fillip, Sober)
PIB (sorry, blasphemy, I know)
TSP
Invincible
Exo Part 3 and the chorus of Resistance
Keep in mind I still think these are better than many other "good" tracks from other bands. These are just the ones from muse that don't get me going very much.

Prague. Even thought it is a cover, it's the only song by Muse that I haven't even bothered with. I hated the first 30 seconds of it and I will probably never hear the rest.
I would say UD is the song i skip the most. Nobody really likes it and i don't get why muse would write a song like that other than to commercially get fans from the RnB/Synth genre
