you guys are very lucky to have guitars like that. i love the way they look (the lightness and just awesomeness) musecasters... awesome job, hope you come up with some cool designs for the next one and simno that's an awesome guitar.. i wish i could have a guitar like that.

Saveth ye olde dosh and thee can! I am planning on saving enough for another, :$ I want one with a flloyd rose to replace my ageing ibanez rg370 eventually - i've drawn up some really cool finish ideas, and got a mind what pickups to have etc, but its all conjecture!

Hi!
First, congratulations for your guitars man!
I'm currently working on my guitar project, and I would like to install a tune o matic bridge. I read on the warmoth site that these types of fixed bridges needed an angled neck pocket... How did you do for your silver replicas? Do you have any picture explaining how to do it? Or any site about the subject (dimensions...)
Thanks for the info, and again, great job!!

It's a MIDI strip, basically it can used to control parameters of effects (Providing they work with MIDI), or his amp. They are quite cool, because you can tap them, creating really sudden changes in sound, you don't get that using an expression pedal, well you can move it fast, but doesn't do it aswell, or as controlled.

Although I remember reading Musecaster's guitar doesn't have it, just felt or something to look like one :)

having watched the thread, and read the production methods, you are quite right with the mistakes in the body neck allignment. the only thing you can do to really help with that sort of mistake is to take your time, measure, measure then cut. if you measure twice for each cut, drill or mill you take then you shouldnt make a mistake. also some fucking good clamps help :D

are you dim? its not called a Manson or Mattocaster REPLICA for nothing.. I mean you're on the Muse message board, in the KIT & tab section, so your bound to find someone who makes a replica of matt's guitar, simply because matt is the only guitarist I can think of who has stuck so much crap in a guitar!! (reffering to black manson) now the fact that Musecasters has made three replicas of his guitrs you might think "ah well, a big fan I guess", but the fact that he made them SO precise and acurate looking, I think you should think twice before telling him to "stop trying to immatate someones elses designs and try invent your own" becasue he's not trying to invent his own, he simply wants to have a replica of what manson made for matt, and I can understand him, and I fuckin envy the lad for being so damn good at making those replicas!

I wouldn't stick it back with superglue. It will leave an ugly cloud mark. Use PVA, and wipe away the excess. After all PVA is apparently stronger than the wood itself. They used to build Bi-planes with that stuff

ok, I've decided I don't want a snowboard and fx pedals for my 18th birthday! I want to get something a bit more special which I will remember more: my own guitar! I've made a list off the Warmoth site..
http://www.warmoth.com/guitar/images/bodies/z_guitar_front.jpg
now. I don't know shit all about woods, so would one fine chap advise me a wood which isn't too heavy but with a bit of weight, that vibrates with the strings (some woods you just get the impression they don't want anything to do with the guitar strings and neck, and they just don't ive any form of vibration or anything..) and is easy to put a finish on, assuming that I do get a finish done.

Then, would someone be able to advise me a nice wood for the neck? I want a neck which has the dots on the top of the neck (where your thumb glides) rather than in the fretboard.. does anyone know what that's called? and then a wood for the fretboard obviously.

finally, where can I buy hardware and stuff? like the tone pots, the volume pot, the pickup selector and all that shit? I'll be getting a P90 (might get a Mississipy queen if their not too much more) in the neck and a Nailbomb with single coil tap in the bridge, with a t-o-m bridge. (and I don't care if bellamy uses them. do a little search and you'll see I said I wanted to do this even before the whole matt and barknuckle thing came out! just incase anyone was gonna get trigger happy)

So if anyone can help me out by advising a wood for the body and neck I would greatly appreciate it!

thanks a mil

david

I know he said that he prefered the black one for recording..... It's just that on the Absolution bonus disc, Matt is playing various other guitars and some of the songs are clearly done on a strat (from the sound I mean).
Actualy I wonder if between us we can work out which song was recorded with which guitar - might take up some time till the new album gives us more to argue about:LOL: !

I cannot stop looking at it. I've wanted to make one of these since before i started playing guitar. I want to be a luthier when i finish with college and everything. Starting a college course about it in the autumn hopefully.

A similar thing happened with my old SG I had, gig bag strap snapped and it went plummeting to the floor. Cracked in the same place, right through to the picup chamber. It's repairable wood-wise just get some Cascamite (sp) and fill up the inside of the cracks and clamp it shut for a few days. Shouldn't be too bad after that. As for the finish I'm stuck on what to do, sand it and re-spray that little section to get rid of any visable cracking maybe?

I'm using yours as an example when I make mine (Hopefully this summer :p.) I really liked the just chrome finish you had going in the earlier stages.

Anyway, good luck with any repairs you make. It still looks fantastic.

english is good. that product is expensive, and i've heard that you need perfect conditions to use it, or it will look awful. body shaping is coming on very well, just a bit more rounding off & you'll be there, but i found it was easier to router out the neck pocket, bridge & pickup cavitites when it was a flat bit of wood...good luck

Nice guitar mate ;) I'm planning to build my guitar with a similar shape but with a flamed maple top and no effects. I'm curious to see how this shape would look like on an all wooden guitar.

There is one thing that puzzles me; is the bomber body the same size as the silver/black/broken mirror/mirror ? The bomber seems narrower but it might look smaller because of the curved sides and the tremolo ?

Yeah, I figured it'd be around that mark. I was more wondering about the costs for the main parts, just so I know how much I have to save if I'm gonna do this. Still don't know though, £1300's quite a lot of money when you're 16

donbenjy

but remember that musecasters built a complete replica, whereas if you just wanted a copy, you could "skimp" on cheaper wood, components and neck, which could be not as good quality, but not particularly bad either!

I'd say, at 16, I'd probably go for a pre-built neck, and see if you can get a slab for the body that's been routed for the neck and bridge definitely cos unless you have relatives who're awesome with wood, and have access to good power tools, you'll be kinda stuffed with that! As mentioned, the neck is the most important, closely followed by the siting of the bridge ( as well as being set 100% parallel to the neck, and aligned with the centre, it also needs to be exactly the same distance away from the 12 fret that the 12th fret is from the nut. i.e. the 12th fret is the EXACT midpoint between nut and bridge), so if you could get that routed already, you'd save money on buying everything rather than making (believe me, costs add up very quickly!) from scratch, but could still try the easier parts like cutting the body and routing for electronics :D

That's just my opinion though, I'd probably still do that now cos I'm not that precise with my measurements :$

check out www.warmoth.com for cheap custom guitar bodies & necks...they'll do complete custom jobs too, so to get an unshaped bodyyou'd probably get a discount :p

good luck anyway!

You're probably right... I think for my first time (lol) I would look for help with the more complicated and intricate parts. If I was to do it, I'd probably just want to cut the shapes, do the electronics (my dad's a spark so he could help me) and get some professional help, as you said, doing the neck and bridge etc.

Do you mean getting something like the middle one here? http://www.warmoth.com/guitar/bodies/bodyblanks.cfm

I'm not totally sure what you mean about the body being routed for the neck & bridge... do you just mean with the holes cut already, so that I don't fuck up the measurements?

i had 2 nailbombs for my laser project, matt has two mississipi queens, i just love nailbombs :)

Can't believe i only just found this thread, your chrome bomber is the best replica i have seen shame that you cracked the chrome,i'm just hoping this thread oppens up again as no one has replied in 2 years, have you created any new replicas since?

Neil.

If you do a search, or look through the General Luthiery Thread (http://board.muse.mu/showthread.php?t=56235) you'll come across a good few replicas.

When you're middle aged you don't want to look like a lad
So jam a cable in that MIDI port, connect a controller of some sort
Then reign in your whammy, go out, cavort

Hello, Couple of Quick questions on your Bomber as i too have started building one myself...
Sorry if they were previously answered.

1. What rivets did you use and how did you secure them into the body

2. What brand of Paint did you use, (i refer to the Blue and Purple) and if possible could i have a link to where i can find them. :D

3. What Midi Strip did you use and where can i get my grubby fingers on one?

Also must take this opportunity to say this is the best looking Manson Bomber replica ive ever seen, was sad to see it damaged earlier, glad youve fixed it, its almost not noticable now. and it would be much appreciatted if you'd put us a video up on youtube. :)

can't remenber, just from my local hardware shop. they were superglued in, but you don't need a lot

i got a mate who used to do custom motorbike spray jobs, so i don't know what paint was used i'm afraid

Im in the process of building a red glitter manson, but at the same time working on a chrome bomber! I dont have the money to send my guitar off to sims unfortunately :( so was wondering if there is any other places that are cheaper or if its worth spraying it chrome myself? im not expecting it to be perfect. I have seen a chrome spray in halfords for about £8.

james90

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zAgT1huicqIConsidering I had never seen anything get chromed before...

Thats not TRUE chroming, chroming is an electroplating process that adds a thin layer of usually chromium and nickel ontop of a metal item to 1) protect it and 2) add an aesthetic value to it. This is most probably a reaction between an aldehyde (sprayed first) and tollens reagent, forming a thin layer of Silver on the outside of the material as seen here:

Bitches dont know about my Chemistry A-level...

I don't know anything about the subject, but doesn't he spray something before applying a layer of a different thing? Can't that be the chromium and nickel that you talk about?

nope, as electroplating (and therefore "chroming") requires bare metal parts or ions (but i wont go into that) in a bath of "aqueous ions" (but i wont go into that)

Most probably (if what I am saying IS true), he was spraying the Tollens reagent or something similar onto the part, then washing it with an Aldehyde... but this is my opinion and how Id do it...

heh, i'd love explaining to customs why i'd need a VAT of silver nitrate, but if it was a business then its justifiable, anyway... who wants to come home after work and carry out work with toxic and irritive chemicals...

OH well, it'd work on the small scale, E.G chrome plating pickup rings/sustainers/trem units...
