I dont really like them.. most of their songs are pretty boring. I do really like Under the Bridge though (who doesnt?) and I like some of the songs off Californication too.. but mostly i just think they're a pretty dull band.

The chillies seem to either do Fantastic Grab your attention songs, or dull turn off the radio songs. I love Cant Stop. the vid is cool too.

I saw them live, twas brilliant.
I like Californication the most as an album, and I think By The Way is quite good, just all the singles get incredibly annoying after hearing them constantly on the radio

Chili's are awesome. Seeing them this year at Hyde Park - can't wait :D
I think their new stuff is still good, but I love BSSM, Suck my Kiss and BSSM are awesome songs, and Sir Psycho Sexy is soooo funny.
Fave album is probably a tie between Californication and BSSM.

I like fortune faded :)

I think that is one of the worst songs of all time.

By The Way was awful, but i expected it to be one of the only bad albums they'd have, but now their going down a path of lame. By The Way, as a whole, is unbearable. Californication, Blood Sugar Sex Magik and One Hot Minute were their best albums.

One Hot Minute one of their best? I disagree, without John they were nowhere near as good, the only decent song off that is My Friends, but Pea is hella funny :D

Best album by FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR

Is BSSM (Blood Sugar Sex Magik) its just purely perfect in everyway, non of their newer popness, pure funk-punk-rock. And its got Suck My Kiss in it, anything with THAT in it is amazing :D

Cant wait to see them at Manchester (so hope Muse support)

Ahhhhhh theres only 1 problem with this thread.
People calling them Chillies and stuff.

It is Chilis. Red Hot CHILI Peppers.

One L, only one. Sorry to moan, just realy anoys me its like spelling Muse, Muuze or somthing like that.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers

(older stuff was better, thank god their new album will be far away from BTW style and more funk-folk-rock style. So they say)

IM GOING!

Manchester!

I just got my tickets this morning at 9:45, the postie was ringing like mad and as i had been out at the ASH gig last night it took me a while to wake up and figure the bell was ringing.

Cue me running down the stairs only in my dressing gown, yanking the door open, holding the dog back and smiling like a semi clad fool.

Oh and James Brown/Chicks On Speed supporting should be interesting.

And the ASH gig last night was very special and wonderful, Tim came aout holding a flying V guitar above his head with flames coming from it. Classic! :)

Great songs from the past and present like Fortune Faded and Californication.

Fortune Faded is new (2003) and sorta so is Californication (1999)

The best stuff is the songs from Blood Sugar Sex Magik album (1991) such as Suck My Kiss, Under The Bridge and Give It Away.

RHCP changed a bit too much, they shouldnt have gone so popish and maybe stayed with their funk-punk-rock roots, which they are returning to for their new album in 2005. Cue more SMK, Sir Psyco Sexy and BSSM style songs YEY! :)

The RHCP are the greatest and flea is the best bass player in rock music, heres to another 21/22 years ahead! and for me to see them many many more times than teh 3 times already

RHCP are middle-of-the-road coffee table rock.
Live they sound poor, playing badly, and my god the frontman can't sing for shit.
And they should be burnt purely for inspiring so many more mediocre teenagers to play "under the brigde" intro over and over, because its all anyone can play who has no real talent.
Your use of numbers where letters should have been does not come as a shock to me, knowing that you like RHCP and are like most teenagers out there who use fuckwit text message speak.

To those people who have already been, were they really good? Setlist roughly? Do tell.

They were great at Manchester, although we didn't get much banter because we bottled the support (Warning! Warning! Chicks On Speed are like a comedy act from some sketch show! They're *that* bad!). Setlist was:

Can't Stop
Around The World
John Solo ("Fear Is A Man's Best Friend")
Scar Tissue
By The Way
Fortune Faded
Otherside
Emit Remmus
Universally Speaking
Get On Top
Brandy (a cover version of a 70's 'mellow rock' song)
Don't Forget Me
I Like Dirt
New Song
Californication
Right On Time
Parallel Universe (highlight of the whole fucking show!)

---------

Encore:

Under The Bridge
Black Cross (cover of a song by 45 Grave)
Give It Away

There was also a 'tribute' to Ray Charles and some... interesting... drumming from Chad but I won't go into specifics in case I spoil them for anyone seeing them over the next couple of days :)

Just got back frm the UK after seein Chili's on Friday at Manchester: OMG WOW!!! I was barrier side baby!!!! :D Yes! Amazing, I am still in Awe! Great Show evn if we did get a bollockin' frm the band for our abuse of Chicks on speed... Man those guys have got some balls!

Omg! And James Brown? Great too - Chad evn came out and stood down front to watch! Haha I remember standin' there goin to my mates look at that lucky bugger standin' down front! How the hell'd he get there? As well as some obscenities regardin how unfair it was  Then he turned round and it was like OMFG IT'S CHAD!!! I have a piccy of him dancin'!!! :D Lol

The coolest thing was crowdsurfin over the barrier during Under the bridge \m/ (Cos I almost got trampled in the pit and couldn't move  lol) Evn Tho i did have to rush round and watch the rest of the encore standin' in the Seating area :p But it was still Fantastic, Wouldn't trade that for the world!

Here are links to some pics I took on Friday:

Boogie on down Chad! (http://img64.photobucket.com/albums/v194/GPIRC/RHCP/Chad.jpg)

During "We Don't play Guitars" I swear there were chants off "well wtf are u doin on stage then???" as well as "Chicks with Dicks" Haha it was so funny when she started swearin' at us and shit lol. There was evn a sit-down protest in the middle of the mosh pit! I almost thought she was gonna jump over the barrier and hit a few of us! Lol She went right to the edge of the stage mid-"song" screamin "Well Fuck you!" and "We're up here and you're not so Fuck Off!!!" Wonder how many RHCP Groupies actually went and "redeemed thyselves" by buyin' the chix on speed album as suggested by Flea??? Hmmm... Damned Groupies...

I mean what the fuck are they on the stage for! They are obvioulsy shite so who the fuck is responsible for putting them up there in the first place?

DrunkenFantasia

Well, they have a weird taste in music (apart from their own of course) if they do!

Boo some extra for me too girl will ya?! And also get as many people as u can to sit down, they really didn't like that!

Haha I just realised why Manchester seemed to get one of the biggest bollockin's frm Chilis for the abuse we hurled at Chix, it's cos it was the first concert the Chix had supported Chilis... I guess once they got to Hyde Park and everythin they just kinda gave up a bit  Oh well... I like my narrowmindedness, if it means I can avoid crap like that then what's wrong with that? :p

I completely agree, well actually the big guys should at least let us short shits go to the front. This is what happened to the huge 6ft guy stood in front of me at the gig who wouldn't move:

Thats cool, now people will know who the fuck to look out for! And give them some big booooos when they do!

Oh you are lucky you didnt have a gold section! I was in the normal section and there was a big semi-circle barrier and we wernt allowed passed that! And all the people with gold tickets were right infront of the stage it sucked ass!

DrunkenFantasia
23-06-2004, 11:58 AM
Aww man! I woulda been really pissed if that happened to us! If should just be a big free for all, first come first served kinda thing, at least that's fair tho i guess they wuda had to pay extra for their tickets but still!

It was so cool being at the barrier! Haha nobody would move to go get drinx frm the bar or anything (I mean who would?) so the security guys down front had to get these huge bucket of water and just start to hand out plastic cups of the stuff throughout the show, The amount of fainters there were was unbelievable! Ah well, it's their own fault I guess for confiscating our bottles of water and coke at the door!

Mullin
23-06-2004, 12:18 PM
I know tell me about it! Yeah they did pay extra for their tickets but man I would have got one if I had known.

There was loads of room in there to! They could have fit loads more people in there! It is where all the famous people watched! Like Daniel whats his name Harry Potter!

23-06-2004, 12:28 PM
God I hate it when they do that!

U shoulda seen how peeved I was when I saw some couple walk out frm the backstage area and stand right in front of me on the otherside of the barrier durin' the James Brown set. I was like OMG I've been standin here literally for HOURS and i've evn stood here and put up with Chicks on Speed, i'm completely dehydrated, and after all that some dude is just gonna stand in front of me through the concert and there's nout I can DO about it??? No Fuckin' way!

I like the Chili's

I'm not a massive fan,
but I've got their "Greatest Hits"/"Best Of"-or-w/e-it-be-called album :D

and I've listened to By The Way & Californication many many times (the albums that is) and Blood Sugar Sex Magik a few times.

My fave track is Parallel Universe, Can't Stop being the 2nd fave.

I've listened to their 1st self-titled album once, and I think it is utter bull shit!!!

I haven't listened to any of the albums I haven't mentioned above though.

I'm kind of annoyed that Hyde Park got "My Lovely Man", and that it isn't going on the live album. I mean, they only did two pre-Californication songs (didn't even do "Suck My Kiss") at the Manchester gig so it would have been great to hear some more of their BSSM-era songs live. Maybe instead of "Universally Speakin" (pft!) or "The Zephyr Song" (double pft!)

Chili Peppers are a good band, I've gone off them though. BSSM and Californication are their best albums in my opinion. I've seen them in Edinburgh back in June which was awesome. John Fruscainte phoned Johnny Ramone and got us all to shout 'WE LOVE YOU JOHNNY!!!' I heard that in Manchester and in Hyde Park people bottled Chicks On Speed

Crisping Lover
08-12-2004, 06:09 AM
Frusciante is an amazing guitarist and brings so much to the RHCP, the best live DVD i've seen hands down is the Chilli Peppers 'Live at Slane castle', and just from that its not hard to see why the Chilli Peppers are such a great band/and live act

btw i don't know why a lot of people don't like 'by the way', its great album, and an album with a lot of Frusciante input, and it shows.. ok, not the classic thats BSSM and Californication but i respect the change in direction, and its better than being a boring band that does the same thing over and over again and bringing out californication pt 2, diversity is much needed

Spiral Static
20-12-2004, 03:54 PM
I agree, By The Way is not as bad as many people make out, it just shows they have mellowed out and taken a new direction. Admittedly I do prefer older stuff off of BSSM, and lately I have been getting really into their proper old school funk from Red Hot Chili Peppers, Uplift Mofo Party Plan and Freaky Styley. Mothers Milk is awesome too, Knock Me Down, Fire, Taste the Pain, Higher Ground, Pretty Little Ditty, Nobody Wierd Like Me...all amazing tracks.

I think those who really like BTW should check out Frusciante's own solo stuff which I personally think is fucking incredible, though a lot of people I know don't like it. His recent work with Josh Klinghoffer and Joe Lally is awesome, very experimental indie, reminiscent of the likes of Pink Floyd imo. It has the same mellower style, more focused on peaceful rhythms than on rip roarind riffs like a lot of the Chilis old funk. While at the same time it has some very deep and emotional lyrics, especially on his earlier ones after recovering from his drug stage.

Yah, definately, I would say I preferred the Chilis, but I adore Johns solo stuff. I recently got Shadows Collide With People and The Will to Death. I also have To Record Only Water for Ten Days. I wanna get the album from Ataxia next that he did with Josh Klinghoffer and Joe lally.

Anyways, yeah, like all Chilis to be honest, been feelin the older stuff more at the moment though. Favourite album is a toss up between BSSM and Californication, then Mothers Milk and the others I don't really know.

I love RHCP. They've been one of my favorite bands for a couple years now.... I know a lot of people who love their 'old stuff', but I've never been a fan of that. (More of a Californication person.) Not all of their songs are amazing, but it's because of the few ones that stand out so much that made me fall in love with them. My favorite song by them is without a doubt Otherside. Throughout the span of three ore more years, this song has remained in my top five--I just can't get over it. Moreover, songs like Californication are lyrically genius, IMO.

Well, anyway, there are my two cents on this band. :-)

It's wierd people's opinions on Chilis. There's a general feeling amongst my mates that they were basically shite before Californication, but you go online and it's a whole other story.

Californication is patchy IMO. Some great songs and some shit songs. I'll never get through that album in one listening.
I think By the Way is a real easy listener; it's almost a really good thing except... It means that basically the songs are paper thin. I can't name a single stand-out track, in fact, barring BTW I can hardly name ANY track lol.
I really liked Fortune Faded but I can't figure out why. Their more recent material just seems to lack any real depth compared to like, Under the bridge.
I'm still looking forward to Stadium Arcadium. There HAS to be some gold in those 2 discs. Danni California will do as single fodder; just hope it isn't a signal for what's to come...

I'll go see them this August or September when they tour here with the Mars Volta. I really did enjoy Dani California.

Jeeez, Dani California has grown on me so much. The solo and the tone is absolutely insane. I love it.

The solo is very reminiscent of Frances the Mute (and before some wise-ass comments, yes, I know John played most of the solos on that album.)

don't sell them short, they were shit after californication as well.

no one told me this was a double album. Why would they force that much mediocrity on the public in one go. Awful.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers are the best band in the world! They are just so pure artists! Some of you don´t know what you are talking about! Fortune Feded is one of the best songs ever written! You have to understand the feelings behinde the music!

I love the Red Hot Chili Peppers. They were the band I was obsessed with before I was introduced to Muse (although I don't listen to either of them as much as I used to). I lack one album of theirs (Freaky Styley... couldn't find in the stores and I haven't gotten around to ordering it online). My favorite of theirs is Uplift Mofo Party Plan. I couldn't get into BSSM all that much. Californication has a number of great songs on it but it also has some okay songs that I normally just skipped when playing it. BTW is good, too. I liked almost all the songs on it (1 or 2 I didn't care much for).
Edit: Actually, I relistened to the ones I didn't like and digested them and then liked them.

I'm looking foward to the new album. In fact, I'll probably get it the day it comes out. I guess I'm still a Pepper fanatic.

I love the solo's on the first Disc. That's as far as i've got yet, and it was way better than I imagined. Torture Me is the one I kept going back to, the trumpets and the guitar solo are sublime.

Gonna listen to the second disk later on.

While it isn't different to anything of they've done, i'm still loving it. It's like a cross between Blood Sugar and Californication. My favourite ones so far are the funkier songs (Hump de Bump, Torture Me, Tell Me Baby, Warlocks). The bass on Desecration Smile is sublime. So simple, but so effective.

I haven't stopped listening to it since I got it. Especially in Michigan features Omar, and it's really great.
:D

I think this is in my Top3 of favourite Chilis albums already.

I went to see RHCP last friday and they were FANTASTIC! It was bloody hot in Ipswich, and there was beer in the air everywhere, great gig.

Flea's body suit was, erm, indescribable. I wouldn't be able to look at myself i the mirror wearing that, let alone go outside!

Went to one of their UK concerts in Coventry last sunday. It was feckin great.
They played a mixture of their old and new stuff, they played Can't Stop, Dani California, Scar Tissue, Fortune Faded, Charlie, Stadium Arcadium, Californication, Tell Me Baby, By The Way, Give It Away and another song which i don't know the name to (it isn't on any of their albums).

Not as much as i thought they'd play! I am just gutted they dropped Me & My Friends for the men gig. The sound was crap! It was good but i was dissapointed at the end, 10 min jam AK went off stage then chad got off, then john an flea just jammed and gradually the gig faded out, Fortune Faded out, it was £47 with t master!

i thought the night after was fantastic. and i have never thought they were any good live before. they played for ages, played under the bridge on our night and they played for ages, with loads of effort. we also got a big speech about how great manchester was and that it was great we were from the same place as joy division. i was front row directly in front of flea.
