Oh that, that's no trailer. It's simply a demo video they were using to show off in the PS3 Hardware. This was shown at the Tokyo Game Show game back in september. The video was released onto the web becuase of the freat reaction it got.

theres more interaction with the surroundings, bit like half life 2.

the entire series of mgs is amazing, I think Solid Snake might have to get Big Boss' remains in order to save himself (hence why his corpse is in the concept artwork)

Looks alright. I want to see it up and running first before I pass judgement... been burnt before. And considering people will be paying around £500 to play this game (considering the lauch price of a PS3), it better not be a let down.

Nice to see they've finally given Raiden a reason to be around. Kinda think his character has burnt to many bridges, though. I also hope they're able to get all the same voice actors back. Cam Clarke owns as Liquid.

I just got racked off with it :LOL:

I was up 'till half 2 in the morning finishing that, which is why I got so annoyed with it. Especially when you find him, and then he faaacks off. Finally realised that you could track him using the thermo-goggles. I captured his bird though, mwah ha ha ha.

I'm playing MGS3 again, as I was playing MGS2 on Extreme mode but I can't beat Olga on the tanker. I've just got passed the swamp/electric fence bonanza on MGS3, to the small base.

Ahhh...the eternal argument between me and my sister of whether to buy a PS1 or an N64 when they came out.

I got a PS2 mainly because I had, and still have, so many PS1 games. When I get my room decorated, I'm going to buy an N64. They're only about £15 from ebay.

I used to go play Sega Saturn round my friends house all the time. Had some really cracking games on there...one where you were a jester looking type and you flew around...and one where you flew on a dragon.

I was really terrible at MGS1, I had no stealth skills, so I just used my cheat-box to get all weapons and stealth e.t.c.

Then years later, when my friend bought Zone of the Enders, which is an ace game, it had the japanese MGS2 demo, and I played that so many times. MGS2 really got me hooked on the series, so I finally got round to finishing MGS. I love the storyline so much...it's one of those ones with so many questions, and when something clicks, you're like "OH MY GAWWWD".

Can anyone explain to me how the online ps2 port thing works? I know MGS3: Substinence has online versions which sounds SO fun, but I want to know how the online thing works. Do you have to buy the adapter thing, and then pay while your online like a phone call or something?

The main thing about this is the camera angle though, isn't it? Like...you can move the camera to any position or something? And the fact ti comes with the original Metal Gear games from the oooooold game systems.

At the moment Konami are denying it will be a 360 port. Kojima has expressed his dislike for such a port to occur, due to the failure that was MGS2: Substance's ports to XBox and PC. Also, MGS4 will require a dual layer blu-ray (50 gb) to store it, and even with watered-down visuals and sound I really doubt the 360 will be able to cope with it.

Metal Gear Solid is my fave series of all time; I was ranked 1 on MGS3 online too :) good job I have a PS3 pre-ordered (month to go, exactly!) so I can enjoy MGS4 from the day it comes out, whenever that is.

well it was a demo, might be harder in the real game! though if all the troops were clever, they'd be able to take down snake no problem. :p

On MGS 3 I forgot about all that stealth stuff and attacked most guards with a knife, if it only takes 2-3 stabs and it's not that hard to dodge bullets and kill them before they radio for back up.

In that case, simply turn off an item when you don't need it. Perservation of batteries is very useul in MGS3 (as has become apparent to you).

that's such a moot point. the AI is pathetic from that video, and don't just say "it's just a demo, they'll probably improve the AI for the final game", well why now show me those features if the AI is sure to be better later on. it's just cheap gimmicks

lots of companies tune down the AI before a preview screening unless it's something they're showcasing. helps avoid problems in notoriously buggy code and game over embarassments for the person presenting :p

Actually, I don't think the AI was that bad. If anything in the early parts he was taking on the enviroment in a very methodical way dealing with PMC's one by one where possible.

The point of the demonstration wasn't to get repeatedly killed. He knew what he was doing.

A few people I know have been put off by the bosses. But I think this is just a reminder that the MGS series can also be classed as a Sci-Fi series. Bosses made of Bees in MGS3, a completely deluded Raiden in MGS2, as well as Liquid living on through an arm... :LOL:

The only difference between the two consoles I can say is the number of exclusive games they have, and neither seems to have a distinct advantage in that area. And Blu-Ray isn't going to make inroads into the DVD market until 2009 at the earliest... and by then the 360 will have a Blu-Ray drive released.

The way I see it is you pays your money and you takes your choice.... it's a question of personal preference.

well ive had both now and i can safely say ps3 is by far the better kit not because of blu ray as i havent even watched a blu ray dvd through my hd tv yet.
i mean firstly being able to stream all of your data from your computer without using bloody media player is a winner and because im using a mac yes a MAC Microsoft which they have no idea how to handle when trying to connect to a 360...all i did was install a piece of software and recognized everything. also streaming divx etc and i know you can on the xbox but come on takes some effort to do it..

games and content on the psn is the only difference. you get more games and more psx and demos on the network, ps3 hands down.

also just checked psn japan and has fucking resident evil and resident evil 2...:D

I adore Hideo and his story telling, it's one of the main factors why i love MGS so much. It's just like a great film stretched out over 20 years (although i havnt played the MG games so 10 years for me; MGS 1,2,3 and 4).
Reading the review in the playstation UK mag it seems that he will be making another ZOE game after this :happy: which is great news as i loved both ZOE games. Pretty much everything Kojima makes is pure gold :) MGS especially. Pure genius :D


Also Halo sucks imo, its so uninventive and bland. Story is boring as well, what makes it even more unbearable is the fact all xbox fanboys are like "ITS THE GREATEST GAME EVAAAR!!1!1!"

I just watched the first two, and watching those videos reminded of two things. 1) Just how God damn awesome MGS on the PS1 was, and 2) just how much the convoluted and ultimately shite storyline of MGS2 killed my interest in the franchise. :LOL:

I never played MGS3, but I was thinking about getting a PS3 for MGS4... that was, however, until I heard that Cam Clarke was no longer going to be the voice of Liquid Snake. I think I'm just going to let the Metal Gear series pass me by now. Maybe I'll pick up a PS3 just after Christmas and then I'll pick up a copy for £25... but I'll not going out of my way to play it. Not after the hype and subsequent burning of MGS2.

MGS3 is fantastic. If you already have a PS2 then it's worth playing it for sure.

worst excuse ever. im not being a fanboy and ive playing it from 8 till about 4:30 today and it is seriously the best metal gear yet. all the important characters are there. ah man missing out big time!
my fav was always mgs but this surpasses it by far and im hardly into the really amazing stuff yet according to my mate.

fuck all this hype as well its typical when a good game gets 10 when it deserves it and then when it doesnt get high scores its called a shit game...buy it and play it yourself!

the MGS Retrospectives are ace, its one of their best ones made. MGS 3 was great, it will make you forget MGS 2 and has some good humour on it[like if you kill Ocelot you'll cause a gameover due to creating a time paradox :LOL:]

to those who have MGS 4 how long is the single player, around 20+ hours to complete the whole game?

MGS3 is rather good, even if the frame rate was lowered somewhat, mainly due to the story being SO LONG!

It's like they cured the Short Story Syndrome that MGS2 had, then went several hours too far. Still good, though. :happy:

Finished it yesterday and it is an amazing game. The only problems I have are:


- There are too many cutscenes. MGS4 has the best gameplay of any game I have ever played and I just want to play it rather than watch it
- When you kill 'The Beasts', Drebin calls and explains their past. It would have had more of an emotional impact if the beasts themselves told of their pasts.
- I was expecting Snake to die at the end. It's as if they didn't have the guts to kill him. It would have been amazing if you as a player had to pull the trigger (L1 to put the gun in his mouth, R1 to pull the trigger). It just seemed a weak for The Big Boss to tell snake to 'go and enjoy the rest of his life'


Having said that, I'm playing it through again:D

If the player was allowed to kill Snake, then I would imagine a fair few people may have had objections. Personally, I like the ending, it's beautiful. =)
