they have some really great songs..the singles mostly- trouble, clocks, in my place, yellow, scientist....

but, mostly just overrated backgroud music, i'd say.

the blue room stuff was brilliant, but even on rush of blood songs like green eyes and warning sign are fantastic.

they just get stick because they crossed over. easily one of the best bands our country has producrd for ages though - nowhere near as boring as people make out.

They'll be back though, no doubt.

i won tickets last july for their gig and it was great. i ordered their dvd before it was released and it is quite great. the concert is full of old and new songs -all great favourites, they are two new songs (one a new song about gwyenth and the other was a b-side to an old single(?) -pretty sure.) the doco stands on it's own two feet. It's so bloody entertaining and freakingly funny. jonny running up a mountain, guy smashing a ball into the ceiling (to see whether the ball would boune on the floor to the ceiling to the floor again), chris warming up his voice in the shower before a gig-la low la looo, de di do deee - oh and their punked up version of 'trouble' is just the best. They were rehearsing at the earls court place and if you know 'trouble'- it's a full on ballad thing but not this time- they were mucking around and it sounded so good! also the dvd comes with a bonus live audio cd, well worth your money me thinks!!!

"Yellow"? Man that song can get on your nerves, trust me! Be warned overplaying of Coldplay incurs pure intolerance. Lol.

I used to have this teacher who was a big big fan of them and every lesson or study period he'd play it in the background, Argh!!! It eventually drove me so insane that in my exams and stuff all i could hear was that bloody song in my head! "...and it was all yellooooow..." How is it that if you study and listen to music when it comes to the crunch and you have to recall what you've studied all you can think about is the song that was playin at the time?!? Argh!

If your still gonna go ahead and listen to some Coldplay go for "Clocks" its a far superior song.

Why?!!!!...... Because when I go to watch them, I expect to see a good show and listen to quality music, not be forced to listen to/watch him go on about fair trade.

Im not saying I disagree with what he's campaigning about, just that there is a time and a place for it, which shouldn’t be on stage, IMO

chris martin is good on stage- anyhow i kinda went off coldplay this year since ahem that whore (oh, did i say that out loud?) you know, wrecked the flow of the band. Think about it- now he's doing all those side projects by himself and collaborating with other artists when he supposed to be "recording' the new album. Anway, as i was saying i watched the trouble video off my computer today while i was supposed to be doing my essay - and i have totally fallen in love with them again. trouble is easily the best song ever by anyone! i was one of those absolute obsessed coldplay lover, and now i realise that i still am. The dvd's great as well!

I don't agree with any of that. As soon as an artist begins to settle down relationship wise, it's too easy for people to victimise the partner in the way so portrayed by people's hatred for Yoko Ono. Gwyneth Paltrow hasn't infringed upon the band in any sense and I'd like to see justification for referring to her as a 'whore'.

Regarding side projects, I applaud him. As an artist, you should expand and explore different avenues. It helps you grow and develop, and could result in your fanbase expanding as a result. You may be anxious for a new album, but I think it will be far better to be patient rather than spur them into churning out album after album in a manner more befitting short-lived pop groups.

i know, i know- i'm whacked out-i was joking by the way regarding the whole 'whore' thing, i like it when people are happy (why shouldn't they be?)i would probably say all that to someone who said all that (like me), but don't you reckon he may be getting a big head now and throw away all that coldplay's done for him?

I quite like Coldplay.
Downloaded a couple of tracks off Parachutes some time ago, and absolutely loved "Sparks". I love it how a fairly simple acoustic song can sound so beautiful.
I must have repeated that song at least 10 times because I liked it so much after listening to it for the first time.

Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin are delighted to announce the birth of their first child, Apple Blythe Alison Martin, who was born in London, after a long labour, on May 14, and weighed 9lb 11oz.

Both mother and baby are very well. Chris said: "We are 900 miles over the moon, and we'd like to thank everyone at the hospital who have looked after us amazingly".

coldplay are very pleasant and very clever because they have gained lots of success from simplicity. but on tv their live show is boring despite all the pretty lights.
i actually enjoy them live. the pretty lights are quite nice too, but chris martin playing the piano the way he plays it, is just fucking great.

that is all.

anyone from the coldplay forum?

theyre recent stuff isnt that great, good mellow mood thoug. best song by them is easily 'bigger stronger'

bigger stronger is a fantastic song! :D

Simone
01-06-2005, 03:30 PM
actually, I have a funny story to tell about "bigger stronger"...well, not that funny, but here we go...

3 years ago, I downloaded it along with some jeff buckley songs because it was thrown in the mix... strangely, it wasn't labled as a jeff buckley song, but instead it was labeled as a Chris Cornell song and I thought "woo hoo! :D " The song was labeled "Chris Cornell w/Nirvana..all apologies" confusing right? so, when I heard it, it sounded a lot like Chris Cornell, so for years, I thought it was a rare Chris Cornell song. And told many friends about this mysterious Chris Cornell song I loved so much. But recently, I became suspicious when I couldn't find anything out about the song through Soundgarden websites or Chris cornell websites...so I googled "I wanna be bigger Stronger drive a faster car" and immediately saw that it was a coldplay song. I was floored that Coldplay could make such a beautiful song. and I'm still floored. It's like a freak of Coldplay's nature.

Max
06-06-2005, 10:03 AM
It's not crap. Thank god for that.

That said it isn't a third-album masterpiece like Muse's Absolution or Radiohead's OK Computer...but it is very bloody close.

This is certainly more epic than A Rush Of Blood To The Head and significantly better for many reasons. Chris Martin's lyrics are better than they ever have been, Jonny Buckland is playing guitar as if he was standing on a bed of hot coal that makes him produce amazing guitar lines that could only be compared to the Edge.

Guy's basslines, especially on Speed Of Sound, are brilliant and Will is...still pounding those drums...but that isn't the point. The point is that Coldplay finally sound like an actual band rather than just a show for Chris Martin. Easily influenced by Beatles (What If), U2 (Fix You) and, obviously, Kraftwerk (Talk).

The only critisism is that despite how good the bonus hidden track is (Till Kingdom Come, originally written for the late Johnny Cash) I still have the feeling it could have been something different...perhaps something like Life Is For Living but on a more epic scale.

Other than that, with tracks like Fix You, Speed Of Sound, X&Y and What If, with the best track fade out I've heard in a while and organs(!) this is still an essential album.

I haven't heard the entire record yet (that'll be tomorrow), but I heard "Fix You" on the radio the other day and I wasn't impressed. I read somewhere or heard that it was one of the best songs, but I couldn't get into it. "Speed of Sound" is great, but I sure hope there are better songs on the record. I got tickets to go see them in September....FLOOR SEATS baby, wooo! coldplay are very good, i think their new cd (x&y) is going to solidify their position in modern pop/rock history. i kind of thought they were going to slip away and dissappear. (that wouldn't be so bad if they put out another robtth) but from what i have heard from the new one, they have really upped the songwriting quality. the songs have depth and more than one repeating section.

I listened to the MTV 'leak' stream of the whole album, twice.

I'm not sure what it is about Coldplay, I just can't get into the music. And I actively try, because so many of my friends love them. I hear all the components and vaguely see why they appeal, but it just doesn't get beneath the skin.

Have nothing against Chris Martin, but when he gets self-deprecating about his music, I tend to think that's him at his most truthful.

what's wrong with Coldplay  everybody is criticizing them on their thread !!!! if you want to talk about Travis go on their thread (if they have one  )
I've nothing in particular against them you could have talked about another band I'ld say the same thing  :$

Nothing is wrong with Coldplay - I think they're top notch!

I just don't see how you can be a huge Coldplay fan but also hate Travis.

I don't hate them, I can listen to 2-3 songs with the continuation but that's all :indiff: like Stereophonics  I think I have a problem with their voice :p

They bore me.

Although Coldplay can get boring at times, at least their singles tend to be top notch. Travis' singles tend to drag on after a few listens to me, which doesn't bode well for the albums.

Although neither band will top their debut/breakthrough singles - Yellow and Why does it always rain on me? are the best things they'll probably ever do.

X and Y is incredibly disappointing. It's a good album but it's just so uninspiring and dull compared with the first 2. The only standout songs really are Square_One, Speed Of Sound, White Shadows, Fix You and Talk

The problem i have with coldplay is their consistent lack of creativity. All the singles they release allways seem to have a similer sound. And to be honest i find this boring. When i first heard yellow i thought it was brilliant. Then i heard politik, amsterdam, clocks...all of them had a thing in common. They all have a similer sound. The same instruments. The same style. And this new album is no different. In short Chris Martin and his folks cant adapt. Its so annoying. They are brilliant musicians. I like the songs i have mentioned. I like all the stuff i have heard from them. But it all still stinks of uncreativity. The same song reproduced a 1000 times with a few things tweeked here and there. That does not make them desearve all the hype. Niether do they desearve to be given the lable of best band in the world.

Jesus. The Foos show more creativity then these guys. Least the Foos are willing to enlist the help of a few really good musicians to give some originality to some of their songs.

Well, let's see. I'd have Shiver, Trouble, Amsterdam, A Rush Of Blood To The Head and X&Y. I love White Shadows and Fix You as well.

It's lost the simplicity, which is what made Coldplay work.

Their older stuff was fab...If a bit simple. This new album shows they cant handle change

I hate Coldplay and it's all thanks to Chris Martin, he annoys the crap out of me, trying to become some sort of Bono II, I hate, HATE, hate him!!! And I think the songs of the new album I heard (Fix You and Speed of Light) are utter shit. Q Magazine compared Fix You to U2's One and declared Coldplay the best band in the world, how can they be so blind. The lyrics of Fix You make me cringe to the point where I worry whether my face will remain cringed, they're the most infantile throwaway garbage I've heard in a long time. Coldplay SUCKS, SUCKS and someone should beat some sense into Chris Martin. His airs and pretentiousness make me wanna puke!
